Die Wohnung lag richtig schön im Hinterhof. Schön bepflanzt und sehr ruhig. Das Zimmer sah auch schön aus.

Es gab mehrere Punkte, die ich nicht gut fand und ich hoffe, dass sie evtl. geändert werden. Als ich ankam, hatte ich einen nicht so schönen Vorfall in Colombo und war froh, die Unterkunft erreicht zu haben. Ich musste an einem großen Tor klingeln und wurde dann in eine Art „Rezeption“ geschickt, wo man sofort meine Kreditkarte zur Zahlung verlangte. Das gab mir kein gutes Gefühl, vor allem nicht, weil ich nicht weiß was eingetippt wurde und keine Rechnung bekam. Das Zimmer war wie bereits geschrieben schön, aber ich bekam keinen Schlüssel, um abzuschließen. Man konnte es nur von innen etwas verriegeln. Gerade wenn man alleine reist, vermittelt das leider kein besonders sicheres Gefühl. Ich habe am Abend meinen Wunsch geäußert, die Unterkunft kurz vor 6 Uhr morgens zu verlassen. Ich wollte zurück zum Flughafen und wurde um diese Uhrzeit von einem Fahrer abgeholt. Ich kam unten im Garten an, alles war verschlossen und keiner war da. Ich irrte herum und rief, bis jemand kam. Ich habe mich noch nie so unwohl gefühlt. Das Tor am Eingang war mit Schlössern verriegelt. Ich möchte diese Punkte nicht unerwähnt lassen, da ich denke, dass sie insbesondere für alleinreisende Gäste verbessert werden sollten. Das Zimmer und die Unterkunft an sich waren schön, aber die genannten Situationen haben mein Sicherheitsgefühl leider deutlich beeinträchtigt

Everything about this place is exceptional. It's located centrally, the owners and staff were super friendly and responsive. The rates were extremely reasonable and the whole ambiance and the feel of the place is sublime .

I did not encounter anything I was not happy with during my stay of 3 nights.

Truly a little slice of very green and lush paradise in one of the loveliest districts of Colombo. Surrounded by greenery, super peaceful and a beautiful outside/inside style shower room. A very unique house with stunning gardens. Walking distance to Gini, possibly THE best restaurant in town. And a short Tuk Tuk from pretty much everywhere else (make sure to download Pick Me and Uber for easy ordering). The family room downstairs was perfect for us and our 14 year old son.

Breakfast should be included for the price, consequently we didn't try it. Everything is just a little bit worn and weathered and needs a refresh. Some little tweaks here and there to make it a little more elevated and boutique and it would easily be a 10/10 for us. The WiFi also wasn't very reliable. None of these things ruined our stay however, and we'd happily go back. Truly a beautiful and unique house with so much character.

Highbury Colombo is a small oasis in this lovely Colombo neighborhood. It's quiet and green and the room was very pleasant to stay in. The local breakfast was delicious. Above all, our hosts were extremely generous and made everything so that we feel welcome and satisfied.

The very friendly hosts and a complimentary room upgrade made the experience perfect. I loved our room - it had great amenities and a selection of inspirational coffee-table books to browse through and flip through. They served a very nice breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere in the house's beautiful living room. Omelette and juice were quite tasty.

Das Zimmer außerhalb des Hauptgebäudes hatte nicht ganz so viel Charme - aber das ist Jammern auf ganz hohem Niveau

Wunderschöne Unterkunft , um in Sri Lanka anzukommen. Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet, sehr freundlicher Empfang, wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Abends waren wir im KIKU um die Ecke essen, können wir sehr empfehlen. Sehr gutes Frühstück in der Unterkunft. Ich würde am liebsten 9,5 Punkte vergeben, da man das Gefühl hat, die tropische Feuchtigkeit nagt ein bisschen an der Substanz. Ist wohl nicht zu umgehen.

Highbury Guesthouse was exactly the kind of place I look for when I’m in Colombo: quiet, thoughtful, and run by people who seem to move at a calmer frequency than the rest of the city. From the moment I arrived, there was an ease to everything: no fuss, no rush, just a gentle, grounded hospitality that immediately made me feel settled. The house itself has a peaceful, almost meditative quality, surrounded by greenery that softens the edges of the day. But what really stayed with me were the people. They were consistently calm, patient, and genuinely helpful in a way that never felt performative. Whether it was offering guidance, arranging something at short notice, or simply checking in with a quiet kindness, they created an atmosphere where you can actually relax.

Manoji und ihr Mann haben einen wunderbaren ruhigen Ort im trubeligen Colombo geschaffen. Das Zimmer war super sauber und das Bett sehr bequem. Vor allem können wir das traditionelle Sri lankanische Frühstück empfehlen. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Tolle Lage, tolle Gastgeber und wunderschöne Archtiketur. Tolles, individuell angepasstes Frühstück. Aussicht aus dem Zimmer war fabelhaft (Turmzimmer) Zentral gelegen, aber trotzdem sehr ruhig.

The most beautiful place - designed by one of Bawa’s students. Had wonderful discussions with the family who owns the place - a thoughtful and inspiring couple who kindly shared stories of their family, Sri Lankan authors to read and the building itself. Room was spotless and a welcome oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo centre. Can’t wait to stay again on my next trip to Sri Lanka!

It was a magical stay, we only stayed one night when we'd just landed in SL and it was so stunning, comfortable, the most peaceful stay amongst the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Perfect for what we were after. The owners were super lovely and made us a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast in the morning before we headed south. Such a gorgeous accommodation and the room was big, peaceful, quiet and a great shower!

Nothing. The close connection to nature, including the occasional mosquito, felt authentic to the island experience rather than a drawback. Embrace nature, carry citronella oil if you’re rather sensitive to a mosquito.

This lovely guesthouse is itself part of Sri Lanka culture, being modeled in the Bawa-architectural style. The owners are excellent hosts and also prepared excellent meals.

Schöne Lage und ansprechende Antiquitäten im Haus. Ruhige Lage durch einen Garten rund um das Haus.

Leider hatten wir keine gute Erfahrung. Die Besitzer wirkten nur am Geld und an der Reputation und guten Bewertungen interessiert. Das Zimmer war vollgeräumt mit privaten Gegenständen, in der Matratze waren Ameisen und andere Insekten und das Bettzeug roch schlecht. Das Bad war veraltet und nicht einladend. Das Zimmer war hellhörig; die schreckliche Musik beim Frühstück weckte uns auf. Ich kann auch die negativen Berichte zu unfreundlicher Kommunikation bestätigen. Auf unsere Hinweise bekamen wir entweder eine anschuldigende Reaktion oder den Versuch, uns zu einem positiven Feedback zu manipulieren. Es gibt zu dieser Unterkunft sehr geteilte Bewertungen. Vielleicht waren wir den Besitzern einfach nicht sympathisch. Wir haben auf Sri Lanka bis auf diese Unterkunft aber nur positive Erlebnisse gehabt; wir waren drei Wochen unterwegs und in zahlreichen Quartieren.

Der Aufenthalt bei Manoji und ihrem Mann war ein großartiges Erlebnis. Als alleinreisende Frau habe ich mir eine Unterkunft gewünscht, die sich absolut sicher anfühlt, ruhig & komfortabel ist - die mir Raum gibt, mich abzugrenzen aber trotzdem unter Menschen zu sein. Highbury Colombo ist in einem Viertel gelegen, welches für mich eher nobel anmutet und sich extrem sicher angefühlt hat - konnte als Frau am Abend mit einem guten Gefühl alleine auf der Straße gehen. Man öffnet das Gate und spaziert in einen grünen, friedvollen Innenhof, der sich fast wie ein kleiner Dschungel anfühlt. Die Unterkunft selbst ist stilvoll und artistisch eingerichtet, mit tollen Kunstwerken überall. Mein Bett war extrem bequem (perfekt direkt nach Hinflug mit Jetlag), das Zimmer geräumig, mit allem, was ich gebraucht habe. Das wahre Juwel aber: Die Gastgeber. So freundlich, liebevoll und bemüht. Mir wurde immer geholfen und jeder Wunsch erfüllt.

Am Anfang empfand ich den Geruch im Zimmer minimal störend - denke aber, das kommt von der Klimaanlage und ist allgemein normal in feuchteren Ländern. Ich habe ein Räucherstäbchen angezündet und danach war er verflogen. Ansonsten alles absolut perfekt.

Manoji and Manitha are such lovely people who take very good care of their guests, as well as the house and the garden. They are very helpful if you need anything, and they share a passion for good, healthy food. They also provide a safe and welcoming space for those traveling alone.

Really wonderful stay in a beautiful lush garden home in Colombo! First time in Sri Lanka, and it was so lovely to be staying with a family closely connected to the city, making my first impressions and experiences in the city so rich and welcoming. I truly felt I was being treated as a guest. I also learned a lot about local foods, spice, plants and places to visit around Sri Lanka from Manoji, as well as a bit of architectural history! It's very rare to still find true bed and breakfasts in the hyper-corporate hotel chain landscape, with social media influencers promoting generic hotels, so this was truly a wonderful and unique experience for those who really care about traveling respectfully and want to get to know a new place.

Everything was fantastic! I only regret I didn't have more time to stay in Colombo and get to know the city even better.

Great location and lovely hosts ! Manoj and her husband are both very hospitable and attending to the needs of their guests. Its a beautiful old house. Although the guests rooms are in the extension built. the garden is so charming. A walk around the neighbourhood was enjoyable !

Returning for a 2nd time, this is an oasis in Colombo and a beautifully designed space. This time we stayed in "the nest" on the top floor. It felt like an enchanted tree house. Such a lovely room and comfy bed. Manoji is friendly and responsive. Highly recommend!

Yes, appartments ARE beautiful as photo says, BUT owner is the worst ive ever seen, so avoid that place if you want to have a pleasent trip. Owner ignored all my questions, not polite and litrarlly indefferent about comfort of the guests. Only thins that matters for the owner is money. Room wasnt prepared for check in (she told me that its ready but noting was prepared), owner was rude, inpolite. She took money to check in earlier, which is fine i guess, but manages to ignore all questions and to lose cash money after check out, and took my money from my card again. That is nonsense.

Did not take breakfast. Liked the location because it was a street over from where I used to live. Main room is appealing but that's it.

Room was infested with ants, what I thought were bed bugs but found out were wood beetles (which carry mites) and cockroaches. Had to spray the sheets with citronella each night. Woke up with bites every morning. One morning I had over 100 bites on my arms, legs and backside. Had to go to the clinic to get medication for the swelling and itch. Asked for some type of refund and they said they couldn't because it would cut into their profit margin. Much of there furniture was second hand, hair dryer did not work.

A quiet garden haven, with great charm and individuality.

A beautiful, charming, and sustainably minded property. This lovely colonial house has been in the same family for decades and is powered by solar panels. The garden is filled with unique plants collected by the owner. The host was exceptionally friendly and helpful. They graciously allowed us to shower after a day of sightseeing before our long flight back to Europe and even provided an airport drop-off for a reasonable fee. Highly recommended!

The windows could have been a bit cleaner. Also, while the bedroom was perfectly fine, there were quite a few mosquitoes in the public garden/common areas, so I'd recommend bringing repellent for when you are sitting outside

It felt like a little oasis in the middle of Colombo.

An architect-designed home built in the former garden of a British Colonial house, surrounded by verdant, luscious greenery. Highbury is clearly a labour of love. Owners Manitha and Manoji have created a very special, tranquil space from which to explore the city and were exceptionally thoughtful and kind during my visit. When I expressed an interest in cooking, Manitha showed me how to prepare a Sri Lankan breakfast. Comfortable beds in generously proportioned rooms, the property is solar powered.

Located on a leafy street in a nice, quiet suburb of the city. Highbury Colombo is a tranquil and serene place. A beautifully designed home, with delightful furniture. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The daily food options were delicious. Definitely recommend this place.

We had such a wonderful stay at Highbury. The space is incredibly green, calm, and beautifully designed…it really does feel like a quiet little escape in the middle of the city. The whole place is full of plants and natural touches, which made it feel so peaceful and grounding to come back to each day. The rooms were unbelievably comfortable (honestly the most comfortable beds we’ve had on our travels). Everything felt clean, fresh, and thoughtfully set up for a really good rest. The hosts are truly special- so warm, generous, and welcoming. They made us feel at home and were always so kind and helpful with anything we needed. You can really feel how much care they put into their guests. And the food was absolutely amazing! They introduced us to some beautiful local dishes and we felt so looked after every single meal. We’re so grateful for our time here and would absolutely stay again.

Lovely house and garden tucked.away in a quiet part of Colombo - the whole building (including our room) and outdoor spaces are beautifully designed which made it a pleasure to be in. It felt like an oasis of calm in the big city. The owners were very friendly and helpful and had good suggestions for places to eat.

スリランカの閑静な住宅街内にある家族経営のホステルです。中心にあるホテルに比べてゆっくりでき、安全です。ホテルのデザインは、スリランカの有名な建築家であるジェフリーバワのお弟子さんが改装を担当したもので、部屋のあちこちに独創的な良いデザインを感じれます。個人邸を宿泊施設に変更していますので、もちろんホテルと同等の施設はありません。お湯はソーラーパネルで沸かし、夜は隣人の音は聞こえます。しかし、食べならではの地元感を味わえるのは間違いないです。

ホストがオファーするご飯は、皆価格が高いとレビューに書かれています。ただ周りにKIKUという素敵な日本風カフェを発見しましたし、あちこちに探せばカフェがあり朝ごはんも食べれます。

Great Sri Lankan breakfast and great coffee. Fruit platter in the morning is always delicious and full of local fruits. I’m always amazed with how quiet the property is. I saw a peacock at the hotel!

This is a gorgeously designed house located on a quiet residential street and set in a lush garden, with many beautiful decorative touches around. Clearly much thought has gone into creating a peaceful and calming atmosphere.

The stairs to the rooms are quite steep and they got slippery in the rain as the main room is partially open to the outside. A member of our group had mobility issues and it was difficult for her to navigate them. Also, when we arrived, we had large heavy suitcases but no one offered to help us with them. The atmosphere on us arriving was a little strange also - it wasn’t immediately clear who our hosts were, and we were left sitting in the entrance room for quite some time with no explanation. However, once we’d worked out who was who, the couple who own the place were friendly and helpful, recommending a restaurant for dinner and even driving us there because it was raining heavily.
