Great shower.

The walls of the bedrooms are very thin and the rooms close to each other. With noisy and inconsiderate guests staying in the other bedrooms and partying into the early hours of the morning, sleep was almost impossible.

It's on a heavily trafficked road but you don't hear it with the windows closed.

Breakfast exceeded expectations

The English breakfast offered was good and kept us going for a long time. I liked the location - a nice walking distance from the bustling city centre of Manchester. Very clean rooms - special thanks for this.

The Saturday night noise from the pub downstairs was a bit annoying but did not keep us from sleeping well.

1. Im Erdgeschoss und am Hoteleingang ist es sehr laut. 2. Selbst bei geschlossenen Fenstern ist der Lärm der Autos auf der Straße und der Menschen deutlich zu hören. 3. Die Wände des Zimmers bestehen aus Gipskartonplatten, durch die man absolut alles hört, was die Nachbarn im anderen Zimmer tun. 4. Bei unserer Ankunft im Hotel war die Badezimmertür in unserem Zimmer kaputt und ließ sich nicht schließen. Trotz unserer wiederholten Bitten an das Personal, die Tür zu reparieren, wurde dies zwei Tage lang nicht erledigt.

Extremely comfortable and if you’re going to the AO Arena, it’s only a four minute walk which is absolutely ideal.

Property was perfect. The one thing they do not have decaf teabags and that’s maybe something that they need to look at. It’s not a criticism it’s just something that the hotel needs to address.

Great location, handy for everything

The lack of a lift made things a little difficult, but I was aware of this from the beginning. However, the staff were extremely polite and friendly, and the service was excellent. Grace particularly impressed me. She served us at breakfast on two occasions and always greeted us with a warm, friendly smile—even at 8:00 in the morning. I do not think we could have found a better location. The bar, which also serves as the reception area, is very impressive and creates a welcoming atmosphere. The bus stops and taxis are right nearby, while the shops are only a five-minute walk away. We also felt completely safe both inside the hotel and in the surrounding area. I will definitely visit the area again, as my daughter is studying at the University of Salford, and I would happily stay at this hotel again. I would highly recommend it to others.

Desayuno limitadisimo, se podia elegir solo 1 opción entre hot cakes, unos avocado toast, entre otros. Habitación con poco espacio. No habia ascensor. Pedimos un abrelatas en el bar, pero no nos ayudaron.

Great breakfast, room was recently renovated and very spacious for solo traveler. Lots of daylight/windows. While the rooms are directly above the ground level pub that does play music/host activities every evening, I never had an issue with the noise keeping me awake when I needed to sleep. They provide earplugs but I didn't need to use them. Never heard any noise from adjacent rooms. Pub bar staff assist with check in and are very friendly and helpful.

Sink and shower drain were slow to drain and the toilet flush buttons would get a bit stuck when used.

Bed was super comfortable great location for seeing majority of the city. Spacious room which was very clean and lovely big shower. Breakfast was also very nice

There wasnt a fridge in the room not personally a big deal for me. The room is above a pub so can hear the music from downstairs but it was always turned off by 11:30/12 so again was fine

Great proximity to the centre of Manchester, the local Q park with the additional 20% discount and the fabulous breakfast.

Room wasn’t as clean as I’d have liked, lots of dust, particularly in bathroom. Plus very noisy doors when guests came back on the evening. Was woken a few times during the night.

This was booked for my daughter and I by my husband Chris ...and I have to write the review. From the moment we entered we were blown away, Ed and the lovely lady who were in there when we arrived looked after us,they were attentive, pleasant and respectful. Thr place was clean, the food good value for money, breakfast was included and was great, the room was comfortable . The location was ideal and we were able to walk into the city centre. We would return here next time we are staying in Manchester. Good job by everyone involved.

Og personalet er arrogant og uforstående for man godt ville sove. Samt er der meget varmt på værelserne, og ingen aircondition. Hvis man åbner vinduerne er der bare mere larm fra den store hoved vej og gæster på puben som sider udenfor

Likte ikke at man kommer rett inn i et møkkete, illeluktende og rotete bar. Dårlig første inntrykk. Bordene var møkkete og det luktet. Ville ikke sitte der. Hadde betalt for frokost men kjempe dårlig utvalg, du kunne velge ett rett. Måtte betale for alt tillegg. De hadde tatt jus oppi en liten mugge, altfor dårlig stabdard.

The hotel was a 15-minute walk from Piccadilly station, and a 10-minute walk from the major shopping district. The room was small yet quiet, very clean and comfortable. The room has a good-sized ensuite with a great shower. A pedestal fan was also available in the room to fight the current heat wave in the UK. Good value for money for budget travellers who want a luxury room. Breakfast was really good. The staff were courteous. They even kept our bags in the office after we checked out, as our train was in the evening. Safety and security of the room were well taken care of.

The property is ground-plus-one without an elevator, so if you are unable to carry your luggage up the stairs, don't choose this hotel. The bed was comfortable, but there was very little room for large luggage. I will not recommend this room to travellers with large luggage pieces. We had only backpacks and a trolley bag with us, so we were quite comfortable.

La cercanía del centro

Reservé en el hotel porque venía catalogado como 4* sup pero, al menos en España, sería como mucho un 3*, ya eso fue un poco decepcionante. La cama es cómoda, pero se notaba bastante la suciedad y la falta de mantenimiento en general. Además de que las dos mañanas que estuvimos a las 7h se ponían a cargar barriles de cerveza o algo similar que hacía muchísimo ruido.

The accommodation is very clean and comfortable. We found all of the staff to be extremely polite and helpful. There is a lovely choice for breakfast and it is beautifully cooked.

La habitación deluxe chica pero bien cómoda para 2 personas. La suite un lujo!! El trato de los chicos muy bien. Llegamos antes del check in y nos guardaron las valijas para que paseemos tranquilos. Abajo tiene un pub divino, sólo tener en cuenta que la cocina cierra 20 hs

When we arrived we were shocked at the state of the place, the walls are so thin, we could here the pub below when going to sleep and were woken by people above us getting ready. The room was also tiny, considering the room was called the “Deluxe king room” it was tiny and you couldn’t walk around the bed. The room was also battered with features like the toilet and doors being of such a low quality and not fitted very well, they felt like they were borderline breaking. Additionally the bed was springy and uncomfortable and the pillows, duvet and towels were all low quality. The staff were nice enough when we spoke to them but the room itself was shocking, especially considering this is listed as a 4 star hotel

Checking in was easy, helpful staff, in the morning when we went down for breakfast the chef had called in sick but it wasn't a problem as the staff member directed us to their sister hotel where we were looked after. Even let us check out late due to the inconvenience

Hotel vůbec nebyl připraven na vysoké teploty. Chyběl klimatizace, byl jen ventilátor. Dalo se noc přežít, ale bylo to na hraně. Bohužel si budou v Anglii muset zvyknout na nové počasí.

It was noisy in the evening but you are above a pub, so expected. The hosts kindly provide earplugs in the room.

We booked a 3-night stay for our family, relying on written confirmation from the hotel in March promising separate duvets and a quiet room. Unfortunately, our stay was a deeply frustrating experience. Unfulfilled Requests: Upon arrival, no separate duvets were provided—only a thin sheet—and we were placed in a very loud street-side room directly above the pub. Uninhabitable Room Conditions: The room was uncomfortably hot (over 26°C with minimal window ventilation), the mattress was worn out and sagging, and the room could not be darkened at all. Between streetlights, exterior spotlights, a broken shutter, and an unswitchable bright green light on the ceiling, the room remained bright all night. Misleading Information & Service Failures: When we raised these issues at night, staff explicitly told us that no other rooms or extra duvets were available for any night of our stay. Forced to make alternative accommodation arrangements so our family would not be left stranded, we checked out early. A room move was suddenly mentioned the next morning, but it came too late after staff had assured us the night before that nothing was available for the duration of our stay. Ignored Messages & Stonewalling: Following our departure, management initially ignored multiple emails and messages regarding our refund request. When they finally replied, they admitted in writing that our pre-arrival duvet request was missed due to poor handover and that the window blinds were indeed damaged. However, despite acknowledging these clear defects, they continue to stall and refuse an immediate refund for the two unused nights, hiding behind lengthy "owner reviews." If you expect basic sleep quality, functional room equipment, or reliable customer service when things go wrong, I strongly advise looking elsewhere in Manchester.

Breakfast was nice, the bed was comfortable. The shower was a good size great temperature and pressure and the shower gel smelt lovely. I really like the addition of a fan in the room as this was needed to cool the temperature down. Location was also good.

There was a partially broken blind in my room that let the light in and the toilet flush was a little weak with a lose trigger.

Breakfast changed each day size of plates and glasses for juice and didn’t listen few times had to ask to be served to take order of breakfast. No lift stairs not steep to climb.

Very hot… but that’s not anyone’s fault!

I liked it that the room (on the second floor) was quiet - even though it was above a busy bar on the night of England’s semi-final in the football World Cup. It was also nice to find there was a fan in the room to cool it down in this current heatwave. I also liked the Manchester murals on the landings of the stairway leading up to the rooms.

The set-up suited me very well for a one-night stay, but for a longer stay I would have opted to stay in a hotel rather than in a pub that let out rooms above it.

Zentrale Lage. Sehr variable, für Urlauber*innen angenehme Frühstückszeiten (8 - 11 h). Großes Zimmer, großer Fernseher im Zimmer mit Netflix.

Wir hatten um ein leises Zimmer gebeten. Zugewiesen wurde uns dann ein Zimmer direkt an der Kreuzung der beiden stark befahrenen Straßen vor dem Hotel (bei dem selbst an der Rezeption noch gesagt wurde, es sei leise). Nach kurzer Reklamation bekamen wir dann ein nach hinten gelegenes Zimmer. Dort lief durchgehend direkt unter dem Fenster ein lärmender Abluft-Ventilator, so dass Schlaf nur mit geschlossenem Fenster möglich war. Das ist bei Tagestemperaturen von annähernd 30 °C angesichts fehlender Klimaanlage alles andere als nett. Die Zimmertüren mussten mit Schwung zugezogen werden. Das verursachte immer einen lauten Knall, durch den der gesamte Flur geweckt wurde. Die im Zimmer liegenden Ohrstöpsel hatten also ihren Grund - damit kann aber nicht jede*r schlafen. Dem Frühstück (alle warmen Teile waren bestenfalls lauwarm) hätten etwas Obst und Joghurt gutgetan.

The central location was good and the bedrooms were modern. The bathroom was spacious and the shower was good. Being on the highest floor, it wasn't noisy.

The room itself was tight & pokey. It was difficult to get around the bed because it was so small. It also only had one tiny window which barely opened. Manchester was having a heatwave and so the fact that the room had no air conditioning made sleeping very challenging & difficult - and we are Australians living in the South of Spain so we're used to dealing with heat. It was well over 30 degrees in the room the whole time. There was a noisy stand-alone fan that obviously blew around the hot air, that was better than nothing but made sleeping barely possible. The outside temperature was actually ok but because of the lack of ventilation, the room stayed very hot all day & night.

Black Lion Hotel si trova a 10 minuti dalla stazione ferroviaria Manchester Victoria e a 5 minuti dal centro della città. La posizione è strategica, al contempo la lontananza dai luoghi della movida favorisce un soggiorno rilassante e piacevole. La camera in cui ho soggiornato è ampia e ben illuminata, dotata di tutti i comfort necessari (dall'asciugacapelli ai prodotti da bagno, dal bollitore a un asse da stiro). Letti molto comodi e bagno spazioso; inoltre la camera dispone di un buon isolamento acustico. Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile. La colazione è davvero spaziale, con portate tipiche della colazione inglese che certamente faranno contenti i buongustai. Un soggiorno davvero delizioso e una struttura che ha confermato le aspettative, con un eccellente rapporto qualità-prezzo.

La struttura è situata in un pub inglese (le camere sono proprio sopra il locale). Nonostante l'insonorizzazione delle camere, qualche rumore può essere percepito da chi ha un sonno leggero (noi siamo capitati nelle giornate in cui si è disputata una partita di calcio). Nel complesso, non ci sono ulteriori difetti da segnalare, è stato un soggiorno molto piacevole.

The hotel, being integrated with a pub, adopts a lively and bustling atmosphere. It’s situated a stone’s throw from town which made exploring Manchester very accessible. The room I stayed in was modest and cosy, with everything needed for a comfortable few night’s stay. The bedding and towels were changed routinely, which was a nice surprise each time and added to the overall professionalism of the place. Free breakfast for guests can never go amiss, especially when the food is fantastic quality. Overall, I’d say that the Black Lion Hotel was an amazing place to stay. Thanks!

Great location - close to the city center, Exchange square (if you need the tram), Victoria station, and Salford railway station, if you want to travel somewhere around Greater Manchester. Friendly staff and nice breakfast.

We have always enjoyed staying at The Black Lion. Therefore, we came back for the third time, and we made our reservation as soon as we started planning our trip to Manchester, 6 months in advance. This is why we were a bit surprised and disappointed when we were given perhaps the smallest room in the hotel, The Rathbones. Compared to the Sankey Soap and the Salford Suite, the rooms given to us the previous times, in this one, we found it hard to find a place for our 2 cabin-size suitcases and it was quite a challenge to get to the other side of the bed without hitting yourself in the TV placed on the wall. The hotel was fully booked, so there was no option for a change. I could have expected this room if this was a last-minute reservation, but not when I had booked it half a year in advance, mentioning that we were coming back for the 3rd time. If I was running a hotel, I wouldn't give my smallest room to regular clients, coming back every year, especially when the booking is made that early.

We stayed for two nights, and the experience was excellent. We would like to commend Grace and Kaylee for their friendliness, kindness, and helpfulness. Greetings from Barcelona!

Breakfast was good. The room was nice. The building and the pub are English-style. Nice atmosphere and design elements. Close to downtown and the train station. If you’re a sports fan, you’ll enjoy the pub. The staff was helpful—some more than others.

Noise. The pub plays monotonous music with very heavy bass. We were staying right above the pub, and the floor was vibrating until 11:00 p.m. So don't head back to the hotel until 11:00 p.m., or grab a drink at the pub. They have screens everywhere, and you can watch sports from anywhere. That was great.

We were in the Sheridan room which looks on to a very very busy road so trying to sleep was terrible. The wait for breakfast on the first morning was 25 minutes, poached eggs very overcooked & toast only ever toasted on one side of the bread.
