Las Mariposas Hotel & Studios

We loved our 9-night stay! The hotel has a very calm and friendly atmosphere, it feels like a peaceful oasis. Staff is very friendly and rooms are spotless. We liked our room a lot and I was happy with the breakfast provided: coffee, cornflakes and a different type of sweet bread every morning - a typical Mexican early morning meal. Location is excellent, you can explore all of Oaxaca on foot from there. Make sure to check out the park 1 block north of the hotel. Lots of street vendors in the evening and just a great hang out.

I liked the service we received, the security of the place, and the beautiful spaces they have; every corner makes for a stunning photo backdrop. They have beautiful gardens.

What I didn't like—or rather, a suggestion I have—is that the breakfast shouldn't just be coffee and bread; it should be more complete.

Todo estuvo excelente! El hotel está a dos cuadras del Templo de Santo Domingo; la habitación estuvo muy cómoda y espaciosa y lo mejor es el atención por parte del personal.

I love that it is woman owned and an eco hotel. The staff was so helpful and friendly. It was nice that we could borrow umbrellas, hats and bags for an outing.

The kitchen used to serve breakfast was right outside our room so there was a bit of noise in the mornings. Although it was nice to use the patio right out front, it would have been nice to be in a room away from reception and the main walk through area. I could have requested a change but we were already settled into our room.

Cleanliness and location

Room was a bit too dark. It felt a bit depressing for my liking.

The property itself/courtyard is beautiful. My room was large and had a desk which I appreciated. Great location within walking distance to everything right downtown. The gate was secure.

The room quality was not as nice or comfortable as I thought it would be from the photos, especially given the price.

The courtyard is very charming. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the location is excellent. There is a nice table to sit at outside by the room. The staff were responsive and helpful.

Our room was very very small. A light shone through the window all night. I felt that for the size of the room there are better options available at a comparable price.

Toilette hat leider ein bisschen gerochen und das Wasser in der Dusche war leider kalt bzw. musste man es sehr lange laufen lassen, damit es warm wird.

Honestamente para pagar más de $100 por noche en este establecimiento pensarías que la habitación y el hotel se encuentra en óptimas condiciones, no? Bueno la verdad en el cuarto había muuucho calor, las tuberías del lava manos apestaban, había una cubeta en el área de la ducha. No hacen limpieza todos los días, un día si un día no. No hay tanta privacidad porque la ventanita tenía unas cortinas demasiado delgadas que seguro se veía desde afuera un poco la habitación, y por último una chica que estaba creo que en recepción no fue nada amable.

The room was huge with refrigerator and stove top. It was the size of a large studio apartment. It was very clean. The price was low compared to others in same location. Parked my rental car down the street.

Lack of hot water.

I had a wonderful time during my stay. The staff and guests were all so friendly, and I felt truly welcomed. My room included a refrigerator, which was very convenient for keeping food and drinks cold. I met many travelers from around the world who shared stories about the city and their countries, making my experience even richer. One important note for future guests: the gate closes after 11 p.m. I panicked a little when I returned late, but the security guard—a very kind man—showed me the bell so I could get inside. Thanks to his help, everything worked out smoothly. Overall, it was a great stay filled with kindness, comfort, and connection. 🌟

The staff at this place are truly lovely, kind and helpful. It is like staying in a family place where so much care is given to the property and the guests. We definitely plan to go back! When requesting a room, ask for one in the courtyard, which gets lots of sun and has beautiful gardens.

Weil wir über booking.com gebucht haben, sagte die Rezeption, es sei keine tägliche Reinigung mit drin. Grundsätzlich könnte ich damit leben. Aber da kein Papier in der Toilette heruntergespült werden darf, gibt es eben diesen Mülleimer. Wurde aber auf unseren Wunsch hin täglich geleert.

A peaceful, clean and well maintained hotel with a beautiful courtyard area. I also appreciated the drinking water that was provided in the room, saving the trouble of buying and carrying plastic bottles. The location was great, within walking distance to everything in centro and the historical area. I was also able to walk down from the ADO bus station, which was about 10 minutes away.

My room was on the ground floor and didn't get a lot of natural light but it wasn't too much trouble since I was out for most of the day.

The bed was very hard. I felt like I was sleeping on a board.

We enjoyed the very pleasant courtyards outside of the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Quiet except for the occasional airplane. A short walk to Jalatlaco and the Ethnobotanical Garden. Good value.

The room was a bit small and breakfast options were limited to bread, cornflakes and coffee. Parking in a nearby parking lot was pricey.

Eco Hotel Las Mariposas was the best stay in Oaxaca! Walking distance so to many places to explore the city. The staff is superb and I appreciated the security of entering the building. It’s a beautiful hotel and I will be returning.

Lovely historical building, lots of charm. we stayed in a room in the back. It was quiet and peaceful. The rooms may be on the small side, but comfortable and satisfactory. The location is near a major park and close to an emerging artistic neighborhood. coffee/tea and pan dulce each morning for all. Garden like setting and butterfly and eco awareness theme.

Everything! The place is very cute, calm, and well located (15’ walking from the main place). The owner is lovely and available for any question.

El lugar es muy confortable, con un plus del café y el pan por las mañanas.Solo recomendaría unas cortinas más gruesas y desayuno desde las 7, ya que salimos temprano a los tours. En general sería mi primera opción al regresar a Oaxaca.

Tuve una gran experiencia durante mi estancia. Por lo visto, el hotel es operado por una familia que, además de atentos, son comprensivos y empáticos. La limpieza es algo a destacar, al grado que preferí descalzarme dentro de la habitación; en la cual me fue posible DESCANSAR, hacer ejercicio y un poco de yoga, además de meditar (a ese grado de tranquilidad). Sin duda es una joya que, estoy seguro, vas a disfrutar mucho, si decides quedarte solo, o con pareja. Muchas gracias por todo a ambas Reynas y demás personal; mi error -pues pensé que había reservado otro espacio- se convirtió en una muy grata sorpresa.

El costo no va con lo que ofrece esta propiedad el lugar es bueno por dónde se encuentra pero eso no basta para lo que ofrece y el costo no va

A unique property with old world charm. It is in a great location which makes all places of interest very walkable. It felt very safe as the property was gated and was very quiet.

We were very happy with our stay.

It was nice, like a piece of countryside in the city with its plants and patios.

The best point of this hotel is very beautiful courtyard inside of the hotel. The breakfast is very simple but if you have a breakfast in the courtyard, that's very comfortable. It seems that there is no air conditioner in my room but it was not problem during my staying season. The staffs are very good, clean room and good access to the center of the city.

We liked everything, the people who run it are incredibly professional and cannot do any more for you, which feels pretty unique. The community feel at the common areas is palpable and makes your stay much more welcoming/shareable (you're not a stranger in a big hotel). The location is unmatched. Close to all cool places of interest but at the same time not noisy.

Simply outstanding atmosphere, the staff kindness was a warm welcoming in my first trip to Oaxaca. It’s perfect if you are travelling alone, since you will meet a community of very interesting guests who are choosing Las Mariposas since many years for their holidays in town. The location is definitely one of the best, very close to the heart of Oaxaca, and despite that, at night my room was very silent and peaceful. I couldn’t chose a better place to spend my vacation, and I will definitely come back in the future!

I liked everything, really I can’t have a single negative comment.
