Excellent customer service (we left behind an iPad and Dan got it couriered back to us very quickly). Easy conversation with host. Beautiful and peaceful setting. Cosy lodge with very comfortable beds. Nice wood fire to keep us toasty. Cooked breakfast every morning. Nice shared lounge and access to kitchen if you needed. Microwave, kettle and basic cutlery/crockery in room also handy. New spa pools for each chalet great addition. Electric vehicle charging if you need. Outdoor BBQ and pizza oven - to try next time!8

Very nice place to stay with wonderful breakfast. It’s clean and comfortable, quiet and cosy. Very warm and welcoming host. The place is easy access to the Ohakune town centre and the ski fields.

Property manager was very nice and easy to talk to. My family needed to leave early to go to Whakapapa during our stay and he offered to provide early breakfast for us at 6:30am.

The river Lodge was one of the best places we have ever stayed. Dani was an excellent host and very helpful. I had a bad cold actually strep throat and he was helpful in arranging for a doctor‘s visit and my husband lost a crown and he made arrangements for a dentist. Our room was quite lovely, well appointed, and the bathroom was very modern and updated. Excellent shower and extremely comfortable bed. The room actually had a toaster, coffee maker, small heater, refrigerator, etc. Our breakfast was delicious and he was willing to cook eggs or anything else that we asked for. The grounds were impeccable, with many flowers and beautiful trees. There was a comfortable sitting area as well, by a fireplace, and although we did not use it while we were there, it was available to us. He gave us a good recommendation for a restaurant which we enjoyed. This is a wonderful place to stay and we highly recommend it.

Alles war bestens. Daniel ist extrem gastfreundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. Die Lage ist sehr friedlich und ruhig. Das Haus hat Charme. Das Frühstück ist besonders toll. Es gibt liebevoll angerichtete Teller mit Obst, Wurst, Käse und frisch zubereitete Eierspeisen. Hier bleibt kein Wunsch unerfüllt. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Daniel war auch behilflich bei der Organisation des Busses zum Tongariro Crossing, der einen an der Lodge abholt und zurückbringt. Super Service.

Die Lage der Lodge ist atemberaubend schön und ruhig. Die Zimmer im Haupthaus sind sehr schön und gemütlich, auch die Cottages sind sehr zu empfehlen. Daniel ist ein großartiger Gastgeber mit guten Tipps für Ausflüge etc. und umsorgt seine Gäste. Man fühlt sich sehr wohl! Das Frühstück ist großartig. Es hat an nichts gefehlt.

Amazing place with amazing hospitality.

We enjoyed our 3 day stay thanks Daniel! We stayed on the bungalow and we enjoyed its ambience and appreciated Daniel’s art and woodwork. We liked the general Facilities too including bbq, option to use main kitchen, and main lounge.

Bardzo klimatyczne miejsce. Każdy szczegół jest doprecyzowany. Pokój był bardzo czysty, Bardzo duże i wygodne łóżko. Właściciel przesympatyczny. Zna doskonale okolicę, więc może doradzić gdzie pójść i jak spędzić czas. Bardzo dobre śniadanie.

The property is situated 5 minutes from Ohakune so easy to get to for shops and restaurants. Also easy access to Mt Ruapehu for skiing.

Great host, lovely breakfast, comfortable rooms, cozy cabin with a fireplace and mountain views! The grounds are beautiful, and our little one enjoyed exploring it.

Such a beautiful property in a very quiet area, just 8mins from ohakune. The hosts went above and beyond for my friends and I! I’d love to go back and stay there again

A beautiful setting with an amazing gracious host! We loved the setting, path along the river and attention to details. Danny is a wonderful host. I wish we could have stayed a third night.

Our hosts were fabulous and very welcoming. Nothing was a problem ! (even with three children, requesting three different, odd, and unusual breakfast items each morning). The cabins were cozy and quiet, and with the fireplace in full swing, they were warm and super comfortable. Top marks. Danny - You're a Lad.

I wish I stayed for longer

Place is amazing, real cosy and my kids loved it!!

I think the only negative is the size of TV and where it's placed (too high up). Other than that, can't fault (personal opinion) anywhere else awesome place is great. The host is real friendly and knowledgeable in re to places to go to and explore. I think the spa pool should ve included in the rate.

Lovely location to relax and enjoy mountain views. About 5 to 8.minute drive from the town center in a nice quiet area.Dani is a great host who cares for his guests, and he makes a lovely breakfast. He even posted some items back to our address for us that we left behind

Our family of four had a lovely stay for 3 nights and the breakfast was great every morning. Lovely view and space for our puppy to roam. Would stay again if we are in the area.

This place was such a good find. Preston’s condition, private and awesome views of the mountain! The owner goes out of his way to ensure everything about our stay was excellent. Cooked eggs for breakfast and able to bring the dog was a massive bonus!

The room was really comfortable, the full place is amazing, with the Mt ruapehu views, the breakfast was awesome (Daniel is an amazing host). The iron fireplace in the room is a game changer in winter.

Scenic, rural, quiet and with great mountain views

What a beautiful place and perfect host! Thank you Daniel. The surrounding is just wonderful and the care for the details is terrific.

We stayed in a beautifully appointed huge bedroom with walk in robe and bathroom and a shared balcony. The older style property is well maintained. Our room also had a fridge, microwave, plates etc. We made use of both the house’s well equipped kitchen and the outside bbq area to cook our evening meals. There are plenty of outside or inside furnished areas to use as well. Ohakune is a pretty town close by, with a car, & had several nice eateries. Daniel is a fantastic, really helpful host and the breakfasts are superb and served in a delightful room with garden views.

The River Lodge is a beautiful property set in lovely grounds. We had a large beautiful room, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountain. We had fabulous breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that it is quite remote - about a 10 minute drive into Ohakune.

We loved this stay. It was a perfect spot if you want to hike Tongariro. The hosts were extremely accommodating and helped us with our transport to and from Tongariro. We were able to organise the shuttle bus to pick us up and directly drop us off at the hotel. Breakfast was great, with plenty of food and drinks. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The location is beautiful. With a panoramic view of the mountains. It's very peaceful. A few miles out of town. Daniel is an Uber host. Incredibly helpful and friendly. His breakfast is plentiful and sets you up for a day in the parks. Our bed was very comfortable. Our room was large with a balcony.. with that view!

Breakfast was first-class continental with a good selection of cheese, meats and fruit and cereals very nicely presented in a buffet style.

Can’t fault anything over a fabulous weekend.

We absolutely loved our stay at the river lodge. We came here to ski in Turoa but the weather is against us. Daniel’s warm brand new chalet with hot water jacuzzi and nice wine made our day in those raining days. Oh and my son loved Netflix too! Highly recommend, it’s the best accommodation in the area, will not need to look else where if we come ski again in Whakapapa and Turoa.

The land and views are stunning. Lovely walk along the river, kids loves the hammocks during our walk.

The chalets are clean, comfortable and have a beautiful woodwork. Breakfast just great and our family felt welcome from the start to the end. Will surelly be back.

A wonderful place to stay, the cabin was beautiful, warm and cozy. We loved the fireplace and the spa pool at night with no light pollution the stars were bright and beautiful. The country surrounds and gardens are stunning. A great location, very close to Ohakune township, a few minutes drive. A delicious and beautiful breakfast served daily, thank you Dani for being a warm welcoming host. Highly recommend, we can't wait to come back and stay!

Fantastic location and host. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the house was beautiful and warm and the views of the mountain fantastic. Looking at the mountain from the spa was a highlight. Daniel was a great host and does an excellent breakfast. We loved this place!

Tidy, beautifully made cabins. The manager/owner of the bussines is a very friendly and fun person, always willing to help. Views of the mountain and the surrounding urban land are very beautiful. Beakfast was nice. The fireplace kept the cabin very warm at night. Hot tub was real fun, too.

The bed pillows were too stiff for my taste. The access for Raetihi Ohakune Road is dangerous (Mangawhero Road access is righ on a bend!). Water pressure is low, but is something expected for the location of the accomodation. Internet is slow and limited to a fw GB per day.

It was like…coming home. Private. Warm welcome,clean,friendly,calm and relaxing. Different. Comfortable room.Amazing view. Tasty and easy going breakfast. Helpful and useful (in details) instructions how/where to drive for a dinner/National park/other interesting places. Unfortunately too short stay (2 nights) We’ll come back. Highly recommended.

My partner and I stayed at the River Lodge during our Christmas/ summer holiday and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you.

Quiet and beautiful view at the mountain

A gorgeous, boutique alpine experience. Daniel was really friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. The cottage was warm, immaculate and smelled of cedar wood. The sheets were lovely quality. The breakfast was delicious. The optional extra alpine bath outdoors was well worth it after a day at the snow. Highly recommend this beautiful hidden gem.

A great place to stay in an idyllic setting. A range of accommodation and our King Suite in the Lodge suited our needs perfectly with an excellent bed and large en-suite. Daniel, our host is very knowledgeable and passionate about the local area and serves an amazing breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the fire in the lounge of the Lodge and although we enjoyed our own wine, Daniel has a great selection of wines grown by Swiss winemakers living in NZ.

The lodge is a beautiful old building with nice and quiet surroundings. The cabins are amazing and the breakfast fantastic.

Spa Pool was amazing and very relaxing environment .

The Wifi was a bit slow but to be fair you don't go there for the WiFi you go for the view.

Amazing place, great host, pet friendly too, although I would advise if you taking your dog and plan on hiking or playing in snow to do your research first. The whole nature reserve is DOC controlled and no dogs allowed. If no dog then no worry, you wont regret this beautiful accommodation.

Fantastic setting and great service

Beautiful location, welcoming and friendly host, fantastic breakfast.

We stayed in a self contained chalet and really enjoyed it, especially the wood fire which kept the chalet warm all night even though it was very cold outside. Our host Daniel was superb! He found maps for the bike trails we wanted to do, gave us tips on great places to eat out (and discount vouchers). He provided a delicious rich continental breakfast both mornings and told us about a place we could visit on our way back to Wellington (Whitecliffs Boulders near Mangaweka). We did just that and it was well worth the walk.

Daniel made us feel extremely welcome and was very helpful throughout our stay. Make sure to get directions to the property from him, Google will lead you astray!

Daniel is very friendly and helpful and put on a delicious breakfast for us. He is very attentive and personable. We would love to come back! Me and the kids especially enjoyed the view from the room and the spa pool!
