Très bien situé, en pleine nature. Confortable
Manque de lampes de lecture au dessus des lits
Lovely woodland location
No drinking water, but they supplied bottles
Lovely hostel - clean and well maintained. Staff were lovely and helpful. Great value for money
Car park was a little small
Great staff.
Couldn't be helped - no running water or meals! Long way for Guests to carry food in.
Fantastyczna atmosfera, ogromna przestrzeń do wspólnego korzystania. Wygodna wspólna kuchnia, jadalnia, pokój wypoczynkowy, suszarnia na mokre rzeczy. Świetna weranda, towarzystwo koguta Dereka, piękny ogromny ogród z widokiem na góry. Wspaniały przemiły i pomocny personel.
great kitchen and facilities. lots of space to relax in. showers and toilets clean and plenty of them. garden and open area around with great walking straight from the accommodation
No running water, duvets too hot and parking space was limited but i managed to find a space to squeeze the car into
Clean and tidy.
For me everything was good.
Friendly comfortable beds. Beautiful old building. Beautiful location
Location is superb as was the staffs customer service. Only disappointment was the water was not working the weekend i stayed so this made it a little challenging, e.g self catering, and no meals on site etc. However it was great that the information was communicated before arrival, and YHA had done everything possible to uphold H&S but providing bottled water etc. So with advanced notice i could prepare meals etc and still be confident to attend.
The chairs in the lounges where a little uncomfortable, and at times it was a little cold. Obviously water situation mentioned above but could not be helped.
Location, staff, size, The most beautiful old house, loads of hiking on the doorstep. Very friendly helpful staff. Fantastic kitchen
Nothing
Big place friendly staff and comfortable
Our room didnt lock from the inside but they said they would get staright onto.
Liked the Roaster who was accompanying us in the sit out garden area, Friendly hosts helped us throughout the stay .didn't feel the Water shortage. Kitchen was clean well maintained
Water shortage for consumption was not available
Amazing location, friendly staff and very clean
No water supply, which asked more of staff.
I had a lovely staying, i loved the cottage’s thank u
Bellissima residenza in una zona meravigliosa! Pizza buonissima e simpaticissima accoglienza di un gallo
Charmant gebouw met gratis parking en mooie tuin
De slaapzalen waren heel lawaaierig. Slechte matrasjes ook
It was clean, location was really good if you have car or you are backpacker.
Transportation was not that good as its between the hills.
It was such a beautiful location and I wish I could have spent more time there.
The showers unfortunately weren’t good. The water came down so hard it hurt my skin and hit the wall so I had to hug the wall to get water on my body.
Super!
Cleanliness Staff behaviour
The staff were lovely, cleanliness was amazing, the grounds were kept amazing & i loved Derek !
Nothing
The property was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The location was excellent, with easy access to local attractions. The host was friendly and responsive, making the whole stay smooth and enjoyable.
There were only a few minor issues, such as occasional Wi-Fi instability and a little noise at certain times. Overall, nothing that significantly affected our stay.
Location, parking, staff, clean
Water for Drinking and washing was not available. Though bottled Water was provided but it was bit strange that they were not able to fix Water supply quickly.
Beautiful grounds, clean facilities, very helpful staff.
The hostel is in a wonderful secluded location and has buckets of old world charm. The staff were welcoming and friendly. If it wasn't for the temporary water issues I would rate it higher.
It is a hostel, not a hotel and because of the age of the building it definitely needed some TLC. Unfortunately, there was no water supply for our visit which also meant that the main kitchen was closed. Bottled water was provided and a self catering kitchen was still available if you wanted to prepare your own food.
A Really Nice location and friendly staff

Beautiful building. Spacious.

Drying room was so useful!
Had a great stay, lovely staff and scenery and Lord Derick himself personally checked how we were getting on several times.
Lovely place, Very homely Great staff, thank you
Peaceful,relaxing
Nice location
No water, was difficult to manage in the kitchen. The staff did their best with jugs etc
Location and staff
Breakfast, no cheese and some item missing as we came at 8 am
Location was great....places lovely
Not much to do at night....the other guests very dull like computer operators glued to mobile phones .they dull ...no entertainment or games just a dodgy tele
Beautiful location, good facilities and friendly staff
A bit far out of town if you are walking
Really friendly staff. Was staying in the main building so that was nice. Great view from the room. Great cooking facilities. Loved the drawing room and original features . Loved the garden
The beds were in a strange layout, almost facing each other with no curtains etc so could see everyone and everything from all angles. Some form of lockers would’ve been handy to keep valuables in when out. Duvet had some old blood stains on it. Toilets sometimes didn’t flush and handryers didn’t work. Location is very nice but a bit difficult with unreliable public transport, and all bus stops are 30 mins walk away which is rough after a big day. Buses didn’t come a couple of times so had to uber. Door was a bit tricky to open and close, so people didn’t lock it most of the time which was annoying.
We absolutely loved staying here. This place is so amazing in many ways. The building looks and breathes historical. The surroundings are tranquil and relaxing. Big nice garden. Just climb the hill behind the hotel and enjoy the magnificent views from above. Staff is a bit silent, but friendly. Nice large well equipped kitchen for preparing your own food. Lots of different areas to sit and relax, both inside as well as outside. There's a games room under the building featuring a pool table, soccer table, ping pong and some other items. Our kids loved it.
I can imagine the parking lot to run full during busier times. WiFi is not the best and its signal only covers some areas of the building. The games room could use some love to replace all the broken things.
Clean, well looked after, lots of character.
Nothing. Exceptional through and through.
This hostel was a good value for the cost. The kitchen was well equipped and never too busy during my stay. Lots of places to enjoy the outdoors. Friendly staff, knowledgeable about the area.
The hostel’s location is both the best/worst thing. You’re in a remote location (~20 min walk to Grasmere) which is relaxing, but after a long day of hiking it’s a bit annoying that you have to walk another 1- 2miles back to the hostel. Suggested improvements: Add extension cord for the 12 person bedroom to maximize the limited outlets. Add a caddy for the top bunks for glasses, phones, books etc. Allow the window to open more for ventilation. Derek merch!!
Beautiful place
The showers had a way too hard water pressure
Very scenic location. Peaceful surroundings. Lovely walks around.
Shared toilets for male and female
Location
All good
Really good YHA. Stayed in the dorm which was great value. The breakfast is good and then building really cosy. A great location one Langdale valley for walks. Friendly and helpful reception staff.
Nothing.
有烘干房,雨淋湿的衣物很快就干了
Beautiful surroundings great for hiking on your doorstep and location great breakfast and lovely friendly staff, cute cockrel waking us up 5am every morning.
quite difficult to find the entrance as you automatically go the main way which is wrong as there's 2 paths so i had to search around at night as i arrived 10pm, and had to phone for assistance as its not clearly marked, and the latest yu can arrive is 10pm or you wont get in as no night staff. I came back late every evening and forgot they change the door code daily so got locked out once luckily guest was around to save me or i wuddve been locked out. A bigger more visible reminder would be good. lights were out every time by 11pm maybe before but thats the time i got back so i had to be super quiet entering the room. Bit later lights out would've be good say 00:00
The property was clean, spacious, warm, and friendly
The hostel was in a beautiful location, although difficult to reach and access to the overflow car park was blocked slightly by an SUV. The facilities were as expected for a YHA hostel and had everything I needed and the staff were lovely.
There was an incident with an older white woman who decided my short hair meant I was a man and she tried to stop me going into the room I had booked. However, I reported it to reception staff who were very understanding and I felt safer after speaking with them.
It was comfortable
YHA Lonsdale is set in a truly beautiful old building with plenty of character. The house itself is impressive, with spacious interiors and well-kept grounds. The gardens are especially lovely, and the surrounding views are a real highlight. There are great walking opportunities directly from the hostel — you can head straight into the forest or up into the hills without needing to drive. Grasmere is also about a 20-minute walk away, although having a car does make it easier to get around and explore further. The access roads up to the hostel can be a bit tricky in places, but there are alternative routes that are easier to navigate. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, with good-quality beds. The bathrooms and shared facilities are also very clean and well maintained. Overall, the place feels well looked after. Breakfast is very good, and it’s also convenient that they offer pizza in the evenings, which adds to the relaxed, social atmosphere. The staff are a real strength of the hostel — consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout the stay.
The main downside is the Wi-Fi. It was unreliable and often didn’t work in the rooms, and even downstairs it frequently dropped out. It only seemed stable in certain indoor seating areas, and even outside close to the building it was inconsistent.
Everything
Staff is very responsive
Such a beautiful house, with amazing grounds and hikes starting directly on the doorstep! The staff was very helpful and friendly and our visit was fantastic. We also enjoyed the pizza that was available for the dinner. We met the friendly peacock as well - what a bonus! I'd love to come back and explore more!
Location was great, staff were friendly, there's a bar and restaurant on site.
Mattress was a little uncomfy but for the price it was more than acceptable. Wouldn't mind a privacy curtain either but everyone just put towels up so it was fine.
Beautiful old house in stunning location
Pięknie położony, bardzo nastrojowy, pyszne śniadania i miła obsługa
Building and setting
Cockerel
Beautiful surroundings, friendly and knowledgeable staff
Beds weren't the most comfortable, the mattress was quite sunken in the middle
Very local to Grasmere and Elterwater and food was good and wholesome
When I needed a personal item and asked at the desk, one of the staff was quick to provide me with what I needed. I was so grateful for the use of the kitchen so I could refrigerate my food and have access to a microwave and eating utensils.
Our door didn't lock very well, but there was a notice up saying it was being worked on. Honestly, not much not to like!
High quality YHA. Unbeatable price. Wonderful location.
It's not "what I didn't like", just remember you aren't buying a £150 hotel room! As long as you're up for cheap and (very very very) cheerful, you'll have a great stay.
Beautiful scenery close to lake. Derek beautiful star ⭐. Great place for recharge batteries
L’emplacement magique, le personnel adorable, tres bon rapport qualité prix
Il manquait juste des petites lampes pour pouvoir lire dans son lit
All good
No handle on our room door
Loved the location and the people.
I guess the property is a little old, and would've liked some type c ports but nothing to be mindful about.
Great place to stay, staff very friendly, great breakfast. Derek is a very cool chicken.
Beds were a little bit creaky when you moved. Evening meals not as good as the fabulous breakfast.
I recently stayed at YHA Langdale in the Lake District and had an excellent experience. The service, staff, and cleanliness were all outstanding—everything was perfect with no complaints at all. The location is amazing, with a beautiful large garden and stunning mountain views from the window. Our room was a bit cold, but when we asked, the staff quickly provided an extra heater. Everyone was friendly and always smiling, and they were very helpful with any request—we never felt turned away. The price is also very reasonable for such a great experience. I have stayed in YHA hostels in London and Bath as well, and they have always been consistently excellent. Whenever I have the option, I always choose YHA, and I highly recommend it

Location
It was very beautiful location
I loved the location. Perfect for accessibility to hikes and strolls. I loved the feel and style of the hostel, I felt very peaceful and relaxed when I was staying here.
The only thing I would say is that there's no luggage storage but the environment felt very kind and trustworthy so I wasn't worried about my stuff.
The hostel was really clean and had an amazing drying room so that all my stuff was dry overnight.
