Beautiful old inn, with lots of hikes & amenities close by. This was the last stop for my partner & I coming back from the NC 500, and we felt extremely welcome from the moment we walked through the door. We had a lovely meal, (they are large!) & should of guessed by the name, but were treated to the badger feeding frenzy at 2045 outside! Quite the sight & pleasant surprise we didn’t know we needed in our lives. lol. Unfortunately, we were yet again the last to bed, and enjoyed the last orders at the bar, to which we really enjoyed getting to know Michael, who was stuck with us until close. Excellent breakfast & the rooms were well equipped & well renovated. would highly recommend & great value for money. Thanks!
Amazing here, we have been a few times to eat over the years but never stayed. 400 year old property next to Rydal lake, lots of history and amazing wildlife! Badger feeding was great, kids loved it. Staff were brilliant (especially the Scottish man on the bar and the cockney woman at breakfast). History of the place is fascinating, well done to Tessa for that great read! Pie was excellent, eggs benny was great too! Bed in family room was massive and really comfy! Great stay and good memories made!
Nothing
The whole building is oozing character. Both dinner and breakfast were good and, of course, since it is a pub, the drinks were too. The bedroom was updated, while still retaining character. Ample parking.
There are stairs to the room--but they are wide and easy to negotiate with luggage. Not in town, so nowhere to walk without getting in the car. That was fine for us since we were only staying one night.
Location ,helpful staff lovely room and fantastic food

Ikke noget.
Breakfast was very complete and tasty. The room was cozy, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Food was so nice; every meal was a proper experience. Location was super convenient. Overall, the experience was very good! will definitely be back :)
there wasn't really anything to point out. Felt like home away from home!
Beautiful accommodation, food was faultless, staff all friendly and helpful. Highlight was badger watching in the grounds, total treat. Would deffo stay again and thoroughly recommend
There was nothing I didn't like
Rooms are amazing, breakfast delicious dinner super tasty that we didnt want to eat anywhere else. Staff are friendly and welcoming. We discovered this place by accident and decided to stay the rest of our holiday. Badgers were an additional surprise. Plenty of parking too.
Seeing real life badgers for the first time. Quieter location than other Lake towns . Love the historic building.
Nothing
We had a fabulous, huge room and modern bathroom. Huge windows allowed us to view the fabulous outdoors. The place has a friendly, cosy and casual feel.
Location was nice as near good walks Family room worked well Parking good
The restaurant / bar food was very average
Location was great, staff were friendly hotel and bar were quirky as expected in an older building of this nature
The room was quite small and tired for the £190 paid. Toilet roll holder was loose and too high, wallpaper was badly bubbled in some places and will soon peel away. Windows had internal glazing which kept most of the nearby road noise out but prevented us from opening the windows. Breakfast was cold and small, one sausage, one bacon a spoon of beans, half a tomato... you get the idea.
We loved the history of the place. Late afternoon you could sit out the front and have a drink before dinner.
There was nothing to dislike
Badgers. Good beer. Location. Service and people. Room was lovely.
Nothing.
Huge restaurant with plenty of dining rooms in converted house. Great food. Seeing badgers come out for the kitchen scraps is an experience - timid with crowds and noise understandably. Beautiful room with big bed and bathroom
Full of character, great location

I regularly travel to Ambleside and having tried many accommodations in the area, always choose now to stay at Badger Bar. Wonderful staff, wonderfully comfy beds and rooms, and excellent breakfasts. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else!
Everything about The Badger Bar was exceptional. Room was spacious, well appointed and spotless. All of the staff were helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate there both evenings, the food was delicious and well presented. Breakfast on both mornings was also superb.
Wouldn’t change anything.
Location was stunning, staff were excellent really!!! I will definitely stay there in the future
Lovely place to stay for a night in the lakes
The whole place is fabulous, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is top notch without being overpriced. great bar after a days walking for a pint then a quick snooze in your room with a freshen up then its dinner time. Even got to see the Badgers feeding. Very quiet at night adding for a nice peaceful sleep. I would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone.
If I was to nit pick at anything it would be the mattress although it was comfortable it could be more so, but that maybe just me,
Lovely old 17th Century building close to Rydal Water and lovely walks.
The room could have done with a fan in the bathroom as when you’ve had a shower it’s really steamed up. Also a bit of nice background music would be nice when you go for breakfast or in the bar area, but that’s just my preference.
Le charme de l’endroit, la gentillesse du personnel, le caractère de la maison. On y a divinement bien ma ce et très bien dormi aussi. Une très chouette adresse avec de jolies balades à proximité
The quaintness of the hotel
Bit too far a walk to get into Ambleside but bus service was good
Really good one night stay. Stayed in Daffodil over in the coach house which was really good and quieter away from the road. Let us park early afternoon and go for a wander out and about and came back later to the room. Breakfast was good - eggs Benedict and full Cumbrian.
Slow food service - many others served before us so had to chase up
Great food, friendly staff, watching badgers feed, location for the lakes
On a busy, noisy road, badly lit bathroom, a little cramped
Amazing room (Rhydal Suite), great food far beyond the usual pub food
Room was great but we needed to keep the side curtains drawn so people couldn't see us in bed It was great to see the badgers feeding late in the evening. Bar food was lovely...I had chicken and leek pie. Great location for local walks...either around Rydal & Grasmere or to Ambleside.
I had 3 full breakfasts....on Friday it was poor, everything either under or overcooked, on Saturday I asked for a runny fried egg, but again it was overcooked but the rest of the items were better, on Sunday everything was great...even the runny egg. I know it was school holiday time, but the price we paid for 3 nights was extortionate.
The History being a house Wordsworth lived in
Room very cramped ,noisy because it was next to front door Breakfast was good , but overall expected it to be better even though it was an old building. More for walkers than a night away prefer a few more frills .
Lovely location with easy access to low level walks
The food service was very slow both in the evening & at breakfast. Dinner was good when it finally arrived. Breakfast was ok but not worth the wait for it. Seems like there are too many rooms to eat in and too many orders going to the kitchen at the same time.
I had a really nice time. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
It was all good
Lovely period property set in the heart of the Lake District.
My go to if I have an opportunity to head to the Lakes for an overnight trip. Central to Windermere and Keswick with Ambleside and Grasmere really close by. Love that it has a rich history and is a really old building. Great bar, good food, lovely ambience and nice staff.
Location, the setting is great breakfast is very good evening meal good.
Room tatty and shabby in places for £400 for 2 nights wouldnt expect wallpaper coming off wall mould on ceiling shower kept losing pressure and matres solid. Iron burn in carpet. Small bed,no iron amd sullen barman.
The location is very scenic and handy to towns and countryside.
An earlier check out would have been preferable.
Peaceful room and great experience seeing the Badgers

The history is amazing. The views truly lovely . A bus stop near by and some beautiful walks . We even got to see the football.

The space in the cottage for a family of four.
Nothing, everything was very good.
Great staff,location and rooms
Beautiful place, great food superb friendly staff
WiFi was hit and miss
Ambiance
Full breakfast was disappointing overcooked
Our room was very comfortable & luxurious. The bathroom looked as though it had only recently been installed & everything was spotlessly clean. Very comfortable beds, great food & lovely breakfast. We enjoyed going out to watch the badgers in the evening. Good location near Ambleside.
There were no problems with our stay. A minor thing was that although comfortable, the bed creaked loudly every time you moved.
Room was spacious with four-poster bed and well decorated. Excellent breakfast and very friendly staff.
Bit chilly in the dinning room and bar. Despite it being July a fire or some heating would have made it more cosy
This is a really qwerky place full of atmosphere. The food is good and it looks striaght into Dora's Field which is why I go everey year. My daughter was delighted to see a badger!
Nothing
We were greeted with a warm welcome from Belle. On entrt to the room it was well presented, clean, warm and a large spacious bathroom. For breakfast there was a nice array of options. Great base for walking , hiking or exploring the lake district.
There wasnt anything to dislike but if I could make a recommendation is to add extra storage for toiletries and make up in a big spacious bathroom not ideal to leave things on floor for lack of shelving. My only other teeak would be the lack of plugs in the right places but its an old building and appreciate its not designed for modern day gadgets we use.
Oh my word, lovely rooms, friendly staff. We saw the badgers too , thanks so much for looking after us
Nothing
Beautiful location and the room was in a quiet annexe shaded from the sun thankfully!
Nothing really
Atmpshere . Breakfast seeing the badgers , little balcoy off our room

The staff were very pleasant. The food was very good. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel
I stayed in a small but perfectly formed room. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Loved seeing the badgers at night, and the history that the inn is steeped in.
Great venue, lots to see close by. Rooms were clean and tidy, bar and restaurant were great, good choice on food. Breakfast was top quality.
Nothing
We saw Badgers !
Excellent prompt breakfast service. The waiter very kindly agreed to swap mushrooms for an extra black pudding.
Clean and comfortable room. Ideally situated with easy access to lots of activities Staff provided amazing ideas when the weather turned bad and enjoyed every single one of them. Both breakfast and dinner options were good. Only shame was that we couldn't spot any badgers!
Location Friendliness of the staff Comfort

Loved this pub. The room was absolutely beautiful and we got to see the badgers.
Location was superb!
Old traditional pub with a lot of history. 4-poster bed and a state of the art bathroom. For the badgers you really need a night sight - but I saw one live for the first time. Good pub food. Close to good walks and Wordsworth’s home (he stayed in Rydal much longer than Grasmere).
Looked onto the main room. Some traffic noise. Need to be careful when exiting if crossing the line of traffic.
We were greeted by Kookie the resident collie. Such a cutie and so friendly. As such were the staff, every single person. They couldn't have been more friendly and chatty and always there when you needed help. The breakfast was amazing and you certainly didn't need anything else for the rest of the day until tea time. I was expecting a larger room. I had seen the photos so was a little disappointed. But the room was clean, tidy and in really totally functional. I knew they fed the badgers every night but I never thought I would be lucky enough to see badgers on both nights but excitedly I did. What a lovely place. One off my bucket list. Thank you guys. You were all lovely xxx
Nothing.
Lovely old inn but with modern facilities, warm and welcoming.
Location fabulous, great food and really helpful friendly staff
Next door to noisy children & dogs. Staff moving outdoor metal furniture around at 8am !
Very large omfortable room. Great location. Friendly helpful staff.
The staff, the food and drinks were very good. The Badger Bar is 400 years old and had a great authentic smell and feel to it. The room was large and quirky with decent facilities. Seeing badgers in the evening.
Located on a road made is quite noisy. Too many stairs.
Bagder bar met all my expectations. Travelled alone to the Lake District without a car and wanted to find a place that was close to beautiful places. I couldn't have found a better hotel. Not only because it was close to everything I wanted but also because of all the fantastic staff, food and the cozy atmosphere. The room was so nice and the bed divine to sleep in. Will be more than happy to come back.
There is nothing that was bad. Everything was great.

Very friendly staff and great breakfast.
Great location and staff was very accommodating for the early start of an event providing breakfast at 5:30am. Great Sunday roast.
Smell of garlic through the room, maybe due to room being above or near kitchen vents.
Quirky building which is very interesting.
We had a shower over the bathtub which is not our favourite.
Everything
On good bus route (555) to keswick or bowness etc.
Breakfast service could be improved. Waited 35 mins from ordering to receiving the cooked breakfast. Was good when it arrived.
The history, the quirkiness and of course the boulders.
The rooms can get very cold, we did have a heater but it was either too hot or too cold. The breakfast and dining room were also very cold.
Everything! The room was stunning and extremely good value for money. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. The food was great. We had dinner and breakfast. The badgers feeding was really good addition to our stay too.
Nothing. Everything was great.
Great food, staff very friendly and the best location also lovely outdoor seating
Bed was very firm for me but wouldn't stop me booking to stay again
We had a room in the cottage, with Dora's Field behind us. Warm room, huge comfortable bed, big bathroom with large walk in shower. Breakfast had generous portions. We watched the badger feeding too. Would definitely go again.
An absolutely beautiful room. Staff were lovely and breakfast was nice. Seeing badgers in real life was the experience of a lifetime
Nothing not to like about our stay
Very comfortable and steeped in history in the heart of the Lakes District.
The employees were very Friendly helpful and Welcoming.comfortable big bed. Beautiful bathroom with shower. Breakfast was very good.
Driving in and out of the carpark was tight. They did not serve food after 19.30.
The location, the ambience and vibe, the services, the food was all great.
Location was fantastic
Went to see the badgers from our seating outside and a bar man took our half full bottle of wine and glasses. On enquiring he admitted he took them and gave us 2 large glasses of wine. If you advertise badgers people are going to move from their seats to watch and leave their drinks
Everyone was friendly and helpful helping out my family with a newborn, it was an amazing place to stay the room was perfect, definitely worth staying and even visiting
Centrally located with a fantastic ambiance, fantastic staff and actual badgers. Totally recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a ramble, good food and a great bar.
Nothing it was exactly as expected
Good location. Comfortable
Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff, comfy bed
Nice clean room Delicious breakfast Helpful friendly staff
Nothing
Very comfortable bed which included good quality pillows. Excellent service at meal times & food was good value. View from room onto woodland where we saw a couple of red squirrels.
They were sensible in keeping the menu choice limited so it was manageable for the kitchen, however, it would have been better if the specials could have been changed more (we ate 3 dinners in so felt choice a bit limited by night 3) although it maybe that most guests only stay 1 to 2 nights.
