Reviewed Sep 5, 2026Excellent location, just a few minutes walk from the main street, the museums and the river where we took a fab 2 hour boat ride up the River Dee. The team were fantastic, so friendly, we felt welcomed from the second we arrived. The breakfast is the best we have eaten in any hotel. There has been a building here since the 1600's so old world, decor, with a warm "boozer" type feel in deep warm colours, with wooden floors and furniture, is what you will get. We just loved the old fashioned pub vibe. A real piece of historic Chester. What a gem!
Absolutely nothing! Could not fault this pub b&b. Just note that parking is not onsite, however a good sized carpark is just a few steps over the road at the county court buildings. No hardship as drop of outside the door is possible if you have a lot of luggage and the wall to the carpark is less than 1 minute away

Reviewed Aug 21, 2026It is a lovely old pub. The room was the same as for our last stay. The bed is comfy, there are generous tea and coffee facilities and even a record player and selection of LPs. The Landlord, Martin was very welcoming as was Jeannie who served our breakfast. Full English Breakfast is good. We will stay there when we’re next in Chester.
Our room, at the back was over some sort of extractor/generator which was a bit noisy but didn’t stop us sleeping.

Reviewed Aug 10, 2026Location was great, the room was tastefully done, gorgeous, loved the quirky decor in the room, whoever was responsible for this had an idea for detail, loved the record player, and vinyls , full length mirror, framed mirror on the wall and a vanity make up mirror, so much thought. Bed was extremely comfy, soft furnishing lovely , bathroom was good size, plenty of shelving and door hooks. The staff were great, breakfast was superb, compliments to the chef and waiting on staff, faultless.
Not so much didn’t like, but coasters would have been nice, as luckily had kitchen roll to place hot mug on, as beautiful wood furniture will get damaged over time, such a shame.

The only thing that wasn’t great was what we guess was the kitchen extractor going on at breakfast time. It sounded like a motorbike running.

The people who ran it were absolutely lovely...so welcoming and kind. The breakfast was delicious. The rooms are above the bar so you didn't have to go looking for somewhere to have a pint!
If you are a light sleeper, you might be disturbed at night.

There was no food available in the bar (although before we arrived we were told burgers and steaks would be available) so we got a takeaway pizza and ate it in the room. The breakfast was great - freshly cooked and delicious Would stay there again.
We stayed in Room 1 and the bed was a bit creaky. But we did love the ‘old’ quirky decor.

Charming pub with amazing atmosphere and a good cask beer selection. Lovely team who made our stay warm and prepared a nice surprise for my wife's birthday. Glad we were able to book it.
