Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The room I was assigned was spacious & had a magnificent view of the sea; a truly wonderful accommodation. The bed was comfortable & the bathroom had plenty of hot water. The breakfasts were abundant & very good. The staff were all cheerful & helpful.
It would have been helpful to have a safe in the room
Majority of staff friendly.
Food was adequate…
The breakfasts were excellent
The hotel was dated. It needed some up dating and refurbishment.
Needs an upgrade and a refresh. Bathroom door caught on the loo each time you opened and closed it. Very over priced
Property in itself is very old and beautiful. It's located right on the promenade and has exceptional views. It's got hotel parking which was a huge plus.
Where do we start- 1. We'd booked the room with bay windows but got with just one simple window. When enquired about it at the reception, they said we should have asked for the specific room number. Wonder how that's possible when it was our first time there. 2. Room was old, smelled musty, carpet seemed like it had never been cleaned, there were seepages from the ceiling. 3. Service quality was awful. Tables and cutlery were dirty. No one took our dinner order for over 40mins and we had to go fetch them to even get our order in. 4. Food quality- breakfast was alright. Dinner- we returned both fish and chicken we had ordered as they were raw, and the staff had the audacity to make excuses for the quality. We didn't get any replacement either. Fortunately we didn't pay for these items.
Einzig und alleine die Aussicht
Miserables Preis-Leistungsverhältnis
Location, location,
Bed not very comfortable and room not really big enough for us and dog
Very dog friendly, she was very comfortable and the staff were great. Nice location, easy with the car park and comfortable rooms.
The rooms are a bit noisy
Fab location & relaxed ambience & delish breakfasts
Spacious bedrooms and bathroom. Traditional hotel with high ceilings in the by gone days, lovely to see traditions being retained. Furniture was apt and in keeping to the hotels features
Although on first appearance it all looked clean but on closer inspection there was a lot of uncleaned dustie areas such as the bathroom ledges, window ledges and skirting boards which all needed a good clean. But on the whole bath, sink and toilet was clean and there were complimentary soap, shampoo etc. Also we couldn't get to our room until 4pm, which is not the usual time of 3pm which most hotels have, so had to go away, we had driven a long way to get here so a little dissapointed.
Hot water and a comfy bed!
This fantastic hotel has a fairly grand feel to it. It has a great restaurant and seating area with lovely views of the seafront, excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
The Hotel is in a great location and has lots of reception rooms where you can sit and watch the view.
It’s an old hotel and it is somewhat faded in places, but it’s still charming. The first time we were there the breakfast staff were behind and it took nearly 45 minutes to get served. The next week when we came back from our trip, everything had been rectified and we got our breakfast quickly and efficiently. The breakfast selection is good as you can get food from the buffet and also order something hot.
The view from the dining room. I have stayed there before so knew about that. The food was good, I ate there 3 times. Don't eat .uch breakfast so no real opinion.
The distance to my room and the stairs that worried me as prone to falling..
Fantastic
Nothing
I have stayed here once before. I like the location of course, and the helpful staff. I like the fact the hotel offers kedgeree and kippers at breakfast, not just the things you would expect in any British hotel. My room was comfortable and clean and everything in it worked fine. I think the ultimate assessment of any hotel is whether you would stay again. I would and probably will stay at the Queen's Hotel again.
The decor could be a bit warmer and bolder, with more pictures that say more about the particular location. The "Reading Room" could be improved to make a welcoming lounge. It looks a like a store for unwanted surplus furniture at the moment.
The staff were fantastic. So helpful and friendly. We had a sea view that was stunning, the beds were comfy. Breakfast was delicious! Overall we’d stay again but there were a few touches that would have made it so much better!
Our kettle had such a short wire we had to use it on the floor. The TV had to be connected to an aerial which was very short, meaning the tiny tv was placed in an impractical way, in the middle of the room but not close enough to anything to watch comfortably. There was no toilet roll holder/broken. The seal around the bath was mouldy. A lack of plug sockets in general.
Good location
Very basic and dated facilities in room, noisy outside room in corridors, creaking floors and loud banging of doors
the location is amazing, the staff helpful, would have been a grand hotel in itws day., The room was reasonably clean, but not great.
The Hotel is tired and need of a face lift. It is selling the location and thats all, for the price i would have expected better. but it was OK for one night
Nothing. Big walk with heavy cases from car park to room.
Breakfast poor. Asked for eggs benedict, received one ok one hard boiled. For continental (my wife preference) was poor
The staff. Catherine, Charley and another young girl were excellent at breakfast and two dinners I had there. The view in the morning, from the restaurant I never tire from.
One morning the breakfast was incredibly slow as apparently they were one short. With such a full hotel there really ought to be more than 2 on. I have stayed here many times and I still think keeping the Covid rule of only doing the4 bedrooms every 3 days is not on. I don't need clean towels but I do need my bin emptied and some more tea and milk.
All staff members except one treated us well.
"One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl." - The Osmonds. While most staff members were pleasant and kind there was one notable exception. On the morning of Sunday, 6 September 2026, we arrive for breakfast to find two wait staff, one a petite young woman and the other a middle-aged woman. After waiting to be recognized what seemed like 20 minutes my wife approached the middle-aged woman. Upon my wife's returned I asked her how it went. My wife told me the middle-aged woman was dismissive and rude. Approximately 10 minutes later, I got up to obtain items from the buffet. The petite young woman asked me if there was anything she could do. I replied when your finished taking the plates back, please come and see us. All good. Upon hearing this the middle-aged woman did take our order. We perceived her manner perfunctory. After leaving she went to the adjacent table and stated we are short staffed and customers are complaining of the wait and that they are just going to have to accept it. We can accept a long wait; however, we don't accept rudeness. We perceived the middle-aged woman as rude and uncaring. In our opinion, the hotel should do two things. First, fix the root cause which is being shorthanded. Second, sit the middle-aged woman down and explain to her that should she find herself shorthanded, communicate this fact to the hotel's customers in a kind and caring manner. Additionally, they should explain to her that rudeness and speaking pejoratively about customers where they can hear them is unacceptable. To be fair the hotel, all other hotel staff interactions were fine.
Good location overlooking the promenade
Staff had really poor attitude, rooms were of poor quality and breakfast offering was terrible with dreadful service. When we sought to complain about breakfast we were told breakfast was free - this makes it ok? And course it is not free as the price would have been inflated to have included it.
Good location.
The building needs refurbishment.
Location
Rooms need more plugs, didn't get clean mugs or tea and coffee replenished, no shower gel (just shampoo and conditioner), continental breakfast pretty poor, overall pretty tired throughout
Position is good and the staff very pleasant . The Restaurant food and breakfast were good.
Cramped room which looked as if it hadn’t been decorated since 1950. As we were staying three nights I’d have hoped to have been offered a standard room more like the images on the website. When I commented they offered to change it but the place was apparently fully booked.
Staff were very friendly & helpful. Sheets & towels were clean.
The hotel is very run down. Paint is peeling, walls are marked & scuffed, the carpets aren’t in good condition & there are build ups of dust in various places. The windows were filthy with a build up of dirt on the frames & the carpet in my room was damp under the radiator.
Location and room were fabulous. Breakfast had a great choice.
Dinner
Breakfast was very good but the early spots got booked up qyickly
Dinner was mot as good as laSt time I stayed
Pet friendly Good Breakfast Big room Big lounges/ rooms downstairs, view
Access to room difficult Dirty windows Not view from room as expected/booked Room service only every 3 days
Location, parking, comfy bed.
Dining room was poor... staff pleasant but mostly very lackadaysical. Slowly clearing tables while seeing I was waiting to be served. Waiting for being seated, waiting ages for service, having to get up and ask to be served. Severe lack of items out on the buffet, had to ask for replenishments. And I was down an hour before finish time. Breakfast cooked item on first day very poor.. really disappointing. General feeling that things are being run down. My son and fiancee stayed a week later and said the same. We have stayed annually for years.
Fantastic location in Penzance and for visiting the surrounding area. Staff were heloful and friendly.
The full English breakfast was not very good, it was luke warm. Our bed was awful. We had to move rooms for our second night but the hotel were very helpful and we ended up with a beuatiful room with a comfortable bed
I liked the location on the seafront promenade, and that it had free parking at the rear of the hotel. I was happy with my room, which was clean and the bed was comfortable. It had a good supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits. The bathroom was quite small, but the shower itself was spacious and very good, with a supply of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Towels too. Ample breakfast in the dining room with great views of the sea.
If I stay again, and I hope I do someday, I would bring a flannel with me, as the handwash basin in the bathroom was small, and it was a bit awkward to wash my face without bumping my head on the shelf above the sink. Of course, there's ample room in the shower, but just saying this as a one-off face wash. In the dining room, I found the tables a little high. Fine though if you're a tall person. Overall, I was very happy with my stay here.
A last minute booking snagged me an amazing room and view. I had some misgivings at first due to other reviews, but needn't have worried. With two exceptions, staff were very friendly, and breakfast and the several dinners I ate there were great (the chef even modified one course for me to meet my dietary requirements). Yes, the common areas and rooms may not be up to 5 star standards, BUT the hotel is only 3 stars and the prices reflect this. I highly recommend a sea view room, and stay for at least one dinner!
A couple of staff were less than friendly (though most were great) and one or two could use more training/mentoring.
Ruime 1-persoons kamer. Ontbijt was prima, diners heel goed.
Good location with carpark
The room was clean but the pillows are uncomfortable.
Ideal location
A little bit too old
L’emplacement parfait
Sea front room loveley views and sound of the sea
All good morning complaints Maybe could do with real orange juice at breakfast would be nice not orange squash
Great location
Only one chair in a double bedroom - an additional one at dressing table would have been good
Location
Garbage wasn’t emptied nor did we receive more coffee or toilet paper
Excellent location with wonderful views across the bay. Short walk to the rail / bus station. Excellent breakfast. Large comfortable room with a sea view. Good bathroom with a bath and shower.
As with many older British seaside hotels it will benefit from some redecoration, etc.
The hotel is in a great location, right on the promenade, and it’s a safe part of town. The breakfast was good, and the portions were good. The staff were friendly, and the desk is manned 24 hours. The rooms were generally clean.
The carpets needed a clean, and the walls were thin.
La situación
Sucio, antiguo i falta de mantenimiento. Desayunó continental muy básico.
Expensive for a standard single room
The location and friendly staff
Dad has mobility issues and there were a lot of stairs that we weren’t expecting. We couldn’t get to either of our rooms without using them, even if we used the lift. There was a stair lift from the car park, but it wasn’t working for part of our stay.
Sødt personale, fantastisk beliggenhed. Man må have hund med.
Slidt hotel.
Very clean, breakfast excellent
Nothing all good
Excellent traditional hotel with friendly staff and good food and drink. Lovely big comfortable room with high ceil8ngs and all facilities you would need. Would definitely stay again.
Wonderful hotel and great value for money, faultless across the board - environment, atmosphere, hospitality, service, comfort, breakfast. I will stay here again, as soon as I can.
Rien.
beautiful dining room excellent breakfast clean well appointed bedroom comfortable bed
Loved the hotel, convenient place for town centre, buses etc. Great breakfast. Friendly staff.
nothing
The lady at the reception were extremely nice and helpful...I would go back to the hotel for her only
Beautiful view from our room (24) and wonderful hotel. Staff were lovely and helpful. All in all a lovely place to stay. Delicious breakfast too. Liked that fans were provided in the room given the very hot days/night.
Our twin room (24) didn't have enough plug sockets and none by the beds. No tea bags...coffee and hot chocolate provided but no tea. Breakfast room was phenomonally hot, could do with a few more fans. Booking.com states that hotel residents have one car parking space but that's not the case.
Breakfast excellent. room service weak, room very good, staff patchy
room service,
This was a beautiful, historic hotel that has welcomed visitors to Penzance since 1862!. There is a 24-hour service, and the staff were friendly, professional, and attentive to our needs. The location was excellent, with a magnificent view of Penzance Bay and within walking distance of the city center and the train station.
This is a beautiful historic hotel with a lot of character and charm, and I really appreciated the atmosphere and the sense of history throughout the property. Unfortunately, it also felt as though the hotel has not received the level of maintenance and care that such a beautiful building deserves. Some areas appeared neglected, which took away from the overall experience and, at times, gave the impression that cleanliness and upkeep could be improved. The beds, however, were very comfortable and we slept well. The main concern was the condition of some of the other furniture, which looked quite old and, in places, could have been cleaner or better maintained. With some renovation, more attention to detail, and a little extra care in terms of cleanliness and upkeep, I believe this hotel could be truly exceptional. It is a property with so much potential, and I hope the owners will invest in preserving and restoring it while maintaining its unique historic character.
Very friendly staff and comfortable
Nothing
Tired, understaffed, poor food, expensive
"Altes" Hotel aber lasst Euch vom Charme des Hauses und den sooooo sehr freundlichem Personal verzaubern.Es werden ,wenn möglich, alle Wünsche erfüllt.Die Lage ist trotz direkter Promenade ruhig und zentral.
Nada
Recepción, estado del hotel, personal
We stated at the hotel for one night . July 2026 . The room overlooking the promenade. Lovely views . The room was clean but dated in decor . We had an en-suite bathroom . Shower over bath . Plenty of hot water . Staff were very friendly . We had an excellent meal in the evening. We would come again .
superb view of the sea from our room, light airy and lovely curtains , nice tall ceiling and 2 comfy chairs to sit on and gaze out to sea. Nice large shower and toiletries. Lovely breakfasts and good service . Friendly receptionist
Kettle in room could have been bit more better placed to connect to a plug... Breakfast service was a little hit and miss - eg correct cutlery on table . My scone with cream tea was a bit crunchy having been warmed up and a little bit over browned. Whole place needs a refurb one day.
Great location. Good breakfast and dinner. Very good value.
It's a Victorian building that obviously creates challenges and limitations. In that context, I thought it was great and would stay there again.
Friendly staff, decent sized and comfy room, great location, good breakfast, and pretty good value for money. Would stay again.
Hotel is on the beautiful Penzance promenade. Crossing the road and you are on the beach. You can see st.Michaels mount while swimming. Extraordinary views. Friendly people. I enjoyed the endless sea views from the huge bay windows of my room. Great choice for my 6 days holiday in Cornwall 👍 Thanks, guys!🩵
Free EV charger was amazing. Staff were pretty friendly and very accommodating. Sea view rooms, really are "sea view rooms"! The whole bay right outside the window, with st Michael's mount over to the left
On arrival our bathroom had a stink about it. The bin had not been emptied, so we placed it outside the room. Also there was no toilet paper in the room. We phoned down to reception using the room phone but nobody answered 3 times. So I went online and got the phone number.. called the hotel, then someone finally answered. We got those problems corrected. But then at bed time we untucked the duvet and discovered a blob of blood about 1cm square. So we threw the covers on the floor and reported it in the morning. Front desk staff said she would tell the manager and see what she would do. But they didn't even offer any compensation etc. The breakfast room is not very well stocked, we had to ask for more fruit and juice was always running on empty. It feels like you've gotta beg for them to top stuff up. The staff are lovely, just slightly under trained on how to keep consumables topped up.
Very comfortable beds spacious room. Has a bath and ensuite bathroom. Beautiful views of the coast
There was nothing I didn’t like
Staff are great
The hotel is quite rundown, the room smelt a bit, definitely not worth £175 for the night
Hotel direttamente sul lungomare di penzance.Vista della camera spettacolare.Ottima colazione e cena .Staff gentile e disponibile
Arredamento un po' vecchio .Poca pulizia .
Comfortable bed Breakfast was good
Service at dinner was poor, waiting 40 to 50 minutes; ask for a glass of wine 30 minutes.... Bathroom poor, black mould back of basin and on tiles in bath , wall paper peeling , Not want you would expect for a 3 star hotel
Good location. poor welcome no acknowledgement of my presence. Very good and huge amounts for breakfast 1st morning v busy I waited 30min for my order to be taken 2 other tables seen to first b4 me. 2nd day very different experience much better. Rooms not serviced every day. On leaving no acknowledgement as receptionist same one ..busy again with someone ans no acknowledgement..I wouldn't stay again
The hotel is well located but very old. We checked online before we booked and the rooms seemed fine. However our water front room was nothing like the online photos. It was extremely tired with faded carpet. The worst aspect was the bathroom. It was really awful. It was nothing like the bathrooms shown in the photos. Very old and dirty with mould in the grouting and not well cleaned. The hotel was not at all full so I cannot understand why we were allocated a non renovated room. It was not cheap and we felt we did not get value for money.
Le scale su e giù fra i piani e i mezzanini
💙
I had a one night stay, alone, in a single room, which was competitively priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive and helpful. The bed was a large single bed, which was comfy, and I had a good night's sleep. The shower and bathroom were fine and reasonably modern but the rest of the decor of the room was, as I had expected it would be, very tired and dated. The breakfast was adequate. The location is excellent - second to none, with fantastic views over the lively prom and out to sea.
I will not be the first person to say this and I have no pleasure in saying this: The Queens Hotel is a grand and proud old lady of Penzance but, unfortunately, she has been neglected for decades. The hotel cries out for investment which will need to run to millions to bring it properly up to date. So much of the feel of the decor and the facilities takes you back as far as the 60s. This does not mean that it is not possible to have a very pleasant stay at the Queens but I hope I live to see the day when the hotel once again is given the love and the investment that it deserves.
Bitterly disappointed. This used to be a 'grand' hotel. I believe the problem is everything is run on a shoestring.
Brilliant views! Improvements since my last visit: electronic door locks; new windows. I had a spacious bedroom which was great.
The bathroom was antiquated and poorly equipped as no where to put my bathroom things other than the floor. At breakfast I had croissants that I got reheated except on the last day I had to get into a verbal fight with the lady who told me that reheating croissants was against health and safety legislation. It isn't, and it was her misfortune to meet someone who can quote the legislation because of my work. In the end sense prevailed and I got my heated croissants. Early check in was declined, but my travel was delayed by traffic jams so no problem. Room lighting is antiquated too. And why does everything have multiple stickers saying it had been checked? I have never seen that in any other hotel before.
Range of options at breakfast is fabulous Staff are an absolute delight The chairs in reception and the bar have been reupholstered since my last stay and are fab Very competitive price
How long it takes to get to Penzance and a little bit of heaven from the midlands!!
Hotel was clean, and lovely room with wonderful sea-view. Convenient for town. Staff were mostly excellent. Food nothing special but it was ok. Personally I'd go out for dinner in a local restaurant. The wine was good. Breakfast was fine. I ate it all (Full English)
On arrival, Receptionist was 10 mins on phone to a customer. but didn't acknowledge our presence, and when she finished the call she didn't even say "Sorry to keep you waiting." As a first impression, not the best start. In fairness, she was perfectly pleasant otherwise. Also, the hotel was once rather grand, but looks a bit faded now. Tired and slightly forlorn. Needs some money to smarten it up.
The restaurant was very good, good wide menu for dinner and breakfast
Restaurant was excellent
