The bath was lovely
There was a lot of stairs to get to the room and when we asked for a fan to be put in the room they said okay but it was never out in there and you had to order breakfast the night before
From stepping through the front door we were made to feel welcome and at home. The staff were very attentive and polite, everything was done with a smile. The room although not the biggest was clean and well prepared and gave us the rest we were looking for The evening meal was excellent-all prepared in house Breakfast was basic but adequate we had continental
No can't think of anything It's quite an old building and would benefit from TLC in places but nothing too drastic or off-putting
Staff were very friendly Bed was comfy, they added air conditioning and an extra fan in the room. The shower was amazing
Very good value for money. High Tor Hotel is 3 star and everything is to this standard, that is, good. Not outstandingly excellent, but good. Friendly and polite reception, a tasty Indian evening meal and a proper cooked breakfast. Very comfy bed in a clean quiet room.
Nothing
The room was lovely and the location was within walking distance of everywhere that we wanted to go
Was unable to have breakfast as nothing was gluten free
Had an upgrade which was very much appreciated
Breakfast items were a bit cheap, a little more focus on this would make things great
Great location.
the bed was terrible - totally worn and flimsy the bath taps didn’t work properly everting was cheaply done - this room should have been 40.00 a night.
Brekfast poor, no coffee. All the food wrapped in clingfilm, probably prepàred the night before. Staff difficult to talk to, asian.
Language skills of the staff.
Eigenlijk niets.
In het centrum gebeld naar hotel. 2x. Namen niet op terwijl er niemand in het hotel was. Overal ver vandaan en stijl qua lopen. Ontbijt was op uur en tijd en vantevoren bestellen. Vervolgens is er niets op tijd klaar.
We stayed in the superior room and it was absolutely beautiful, no a bad word to say about any part of our stay, staff very friendly, clean, comfortable.
I liked everything
Stayed here a few times. Most things always great
Walk up driveway
The location to Matlock and Matlock bath.
Bar not open on a Monday . We wanted to sit in the bar and relax on our first night. Even other guest were disappointed in this.
Didn’t eat at the hotel.
No lift and I was on the top floor age 76! Member of staff did carry my suitcase up though.
Nothing bad customer service
Customer service was bad
Great location.
We had a tiny attic room, small, FILTHY velux window in roof. No view at all. The room had dodgy electrics, flicking, flashing, on and off, I assume the same person did the plumbing as the hot tap ran cold, the cold tap ran hot. We couldnt eat the food, which is a shame because we waited ages. We asked for non spicy and got the opposite. We complained but no discount. The couple in the next room waited even longer for food, we know because the walls were so thin we could hear them talking about it. The young girl was great, she did everything and kept smiling bless her.
Everything was clean, bed was super comfy 👍 night sleep
The hotel was very good, But, the extra charges were,£12.99 per morning, and £9.99 for a bowl 🍜 of cornflakes and a round of toast and a poor cup of tea.which the manger said it was a continental breakfast, but the English breakfast was very nice. But as a double room it was far too small, only a few coat hangers on a rail to hang things
Great location, able to walk into Matlock and Matlock bath easily. Lovely big room and bathroom. Really friendly and helpful staff. There was an onsite bar and restaurant. Really relaxed atmosphere.
The pipes made a banging/knocking noise.
High Tor is easy walking distance to both the town of Matlock and Matlock Bath. There's ample easy parking on the property.
Sadly, the room allocated to us was very small. We managed, but we were glad that we had only booked for two nights.
Lovely staff, cosy room, lovely bathroom with rainfall shower. Felt very private and comfortable. Bed was cosy and lovely.
We were traveling to Matlock for a school reunion. The High Tor Hotel was the closest to the venue. We were able to get a taxi to and from the hotel for the event with ease. The room was very clean and tidy and the batroom was very spacious and well laid out.
Good value for money. Not luxurious but very comfortable and very clean. Beautiful soft white towels and a few nice touches like chocolate gifts on the towels.
We had an excellent cooked breakfast. The breakfast buffet was okay (low-budget options for juice and pastries).
Room was nice and bed comfy
Could not open the window, only the second glass slide. Was a hot night. The fan helped but would have rather had fresh air from the window. For the price, would have like more range of teas and bigger cups. I really did not appreciate getting a phone call at 10:05 saying checkin was closed. On booking.com it shows checkin shuts at midnight. I did request an early check and understand why it was declined due to how ealry it wad but to call me 5 mintes after checkin supposedly closed it useless. I would have been more understanding if they called at 9:30....before the supposedly check in closed. When I explained that I would be checking in around 11/12 the staff member begrudgingly said they would stay and wait for me. I ended up cutting my night short and walked straight to the hotel and checked in just before 11 in fear that would not be able to get in to the hotel. I also had to arrange a backup accommodation with friend's in the town over just in case I could stay in the hotel that night. Its a shame as the hotel was nice, bathroom nice and bed very comfy but given the checkin issue and cutting my planned day short, and arranging back up accommodation, Im not happy with the amount I paid for the room
Location. Staff pleasant. Nice food.
Kettle didn’t turn off.
Customer services
The service was brilliant. Nice English breakfast
The High Tor Hotel was the perfect stop over destination for our walking tour of the South Peaks
location was great staff friendly overall a good place to stay
No complaints. I am happy with experience I had. Nice clean room. Kind host. Brilliant shower. High quality bed. I had an excellent sleep. Reasonable TV programmes. Location relatively close to town. Nice little peaceful walk needed to reach the pub, shops, nice fish and chips etc
Breakfast price was a bit high so I skipped it. Took a brunch in town instead.
Centrally located, large room and bathroom was very clean and well equipped.

Only a limited range of TV channels - most Freeview were missing.
The location is ideal. Matlock and Matlock Bath walking distance to centres. Peaceful. Clean. Staff friendly.
Didn’t have breakfast. We had evening meal which was fantastic.
Having to choose breakfast the night before. The bed in the room 9 should be moved as I kept hitting my head on the sloping ceiling. They should tell people there isn’t a lift as we saw an elderly couple struggle up the stairs.
Great staff and nice hotel

Good location between matlock bath and matlock. Rooms were quiet for saying its on the A6. Restaurant was really good great food.
Cleaning could do with being checked
staff were very young and doing their best at all times shower stall was excellent
the rom was so small no storage other than minute no easy chair had to watch \TV from back of bed you had to ask for it to be cleaned and bed never made cuisine was indian but I should have checked that beforehand as I cannot eat rice or spice
Nice clean hotel either friendly staff
Nothing
Location is perfect for me but, I do enjoy a walking
Perfect location , exceptionally clean and very friendly staff
Nothing it was great

The hotel accommodation was not ok
Pleasant
The road
The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Room was very clean and a very good size. The restaurant offered delicious home made Asian food, things on the menu I hadn’t seen before -street food.
Ideal location
It was dirty .the whole place smelt of old fat /oil soon as you walked through the door smelt of a bad chinise restaurant. . Only saw one member of staff with poor English and understanding . You had to order breakfast before you even saw your room which was massively over priced for poor quality ingredients. The room it self had stained walls . Bedsheets . And towels .massive cobwebs everywhere and I could actually write in the dust the heaters didnt work lights flickers on and off . You couldnt even see out the windows they was green on the outside . Absolutely awful
Friendly and helpful manager she upgraded our room when we did not get the twin beds as requested.
Breakfast quite poor and limited
Very friendly and helpful staff
No milk in room. Tv did not work. Twin room booked, double room provided. Eves bedroom very cramped. Two floors up with no lift proved difficult for my disabled brother. Breakfast was particularly bad with iron-hard sausages for me and hot bread instead of toast for my brother. The order for breakfast was mixed up. They were unable to order a taxi for us
Clean though not very big room. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Room was not big. But we only slept in there and it was clean. Had to chase staff for tea and milk but they responded well.
Staff and location
Nothing
The check in was quick and easy as was the check out. The bathroom was lovely and clean as was the room.
I booked a double room, the room we got was slightly on the small size but functional but the bed was not a double, it was 2 single beds held together by valence sheet so kept moving and we had to get out of bed to push them back together again which affected our sleep hugely. The room was very warm but the fan that was provided did not make a difference to the temperature if anything it made it worse.
The beds & pillows were really comfortable
The food options for breakfast were limited. The continental breakfast consisted of cereal & toast, apples or tangerines, a small pot of yogurt. There were no pastries or gluten free options except an apple & tangerine. Those of us that had cooked breakfast said it wasn’t the best.
Friendly staff, very quiet hotel, comfortable and clean room with great shower. Food in the restaurant was exceptionally good. Loads to do in local area.
Nothing
As regulars of the hotel we always have a lovely stay. The location is impeccable with stunning views of high tor itself and it's a short pleasant walk into Matlock itself. There are plenty of rooms with different prices to please everyone. The hotel itself is glamorous and photogenic. The staff were pleasant and I had no issues with cleanliness.
I was disappointed to see that the hotel restaurant has changed and miss the steak they used to serve. I appreciate you can't please everyone but it would have been great if they still had the previous menu. Breakfast is nice but priced separately from the room now.
Rooms are spotless. great place to stay for Matlock or Matlock Bath. This was our second stay here and would definatley recommend staying here.
Friendly staff and comfortable enough and location was ideal to walk to Matlock or Matlock Bath
The drive was very slippery because of the over hanging trees as you approached the hotel , our group were on motorbikes ! It just needs sweeping
Location Plenty of parking
Dirty linen outside room Wasn't told we had to pre order breakfast so missed the deadline. However, they did kindly book 2 of us in. Wasnt a lot lf choice, only white bread. Very small room. Only 1 toilet roll at a time!
The rooms were excellent, clean and modern. The Breakfast was okay, but could have done with someone there making sure cutlery and tables were all set.
Very happy with everything.
The property is just over a 10 minute straight walk to the promenade and the Heights of Abraham. There is an Indian restaurant within the hotel which is worth a visit. There is an excellent choice of food on the menu. The room itself was very clean and welcoming, with a nice spacious en suite bathroom.
There wasn’t anything not to like.
The breakfast was served late and burnt!
The room was not cleaned or towels changed until we complained after 3 nights. The bins weren’t emptied or bed made. An alarm went off at 3.30am and we had to phone someone to come and deal with it. This was an electrical fault which continued. The beer pumps in the bar weren’t working and food was not available every evening. Poor English speaking staff which made communication difficult.
Location very good 10mins walk to Matlock bath main street, Matlock town 15 mins walk Manager was new but was friendly. Decor, lounge, bar and landing nice. Shower good.
Paid for breakfast £12.99 each. Tasteless cooked sausage, brown crisped cooked broken egg, no juice, no bread to toast. Only offered toast with the continental breakfast. Luke warm food. next to nothing on the continental breakfast area cereals only and that was it.. Boxes full of wires dumped in front of the breakfast bar, table stacked full of all sorts of kitchenware., very untidy. Coffee machine not working . The 2 days we were there, pizza and food left outside a room, next to us. Bed was comfy but pillows not so. Cracked toilet, lots of mold in the bathroom., dirty, needed a good clean Outside seating area overgrown, rubbish scattered around. Left hotel early even though we paid for 2 nights
2nd floor room No soundproofing in room Small room
Friendly staff. Amazing location. Really comfortable bed and room.
TV didn't work not an issue. If it's a permanent reception issue then advertise those rooms as no TV and offer a discount. No soap in the bathroom but I didn't bring it to their attention and if I did they would have sorted. They offered to look at TV but I said it was fine so not a problem with the management.
Central between Matlock and Matlock baths
It was quite hard to understand the kind people on the reception.
Rooms were comfortable enough
One room had a ceiling velux window with no easy way of pulling blind down One room had a very complicated shower system with no instructions or warning of scalding water staff were pleasant and well meaning but amateur. Continental breakfast was poor and not as advertised. I had to ask for yoghurt (last one left and on it's final useable date)
Well located to shops and hiking routes. Very comfortable bed. Tv , complimentary coffee in room. Bathroom very clean. Enough parking for the amount of guests at the time but could be an issue if busier.
Room had no view, and sloping roof, felt a little claustrophobic.
Location
The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were basic. No fridge
The hotel was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable which I really needed after a huge amount of climbing the steep hills of Heights Of Abraham and Lovers Walk. I didn't use the restaurant, so I can't say anything about that. The price was very good. The hotel is in a beautiful area too. I will definitely be going back.
The hotels location was very convenient, the bed was incredibly comfy and the staff are very helpful and polite.
I don't like being pressured to pick a breakfast order the night before, we may not be that hungry so don't want to make a decision the night before, on check in we were asked repeatedly to choose breakfast order. Unfortunately the coffee machine had broken so only instance coffee at breakfast, this was completely acceptable. When we went down for breakfast, we had to ask for instant coffee, it was not offered. I am sure there was a temporary blip, but still contributed to a less than perfect stay. The bedroom was rather cold when we arrived, windows wide open, when we went to close the windows we found they did not shut properly meaning it was rather noisey, we were road side in an eves room. The heater on the wall was broken so a pluggin heater was provided which was ample for for the room. The bathroom was also cold and had a very odd smell to it. For one night we could tolerate it but for longer I would have wanted to be moved.
Very good
Lots of things
Location was great
Very strange staff setup, always on their phones when you try to talk to them, or never there at all.
Beautiful location and staff were incredible. Really good value for money too. No complaints
