Great staff brilliant location immaculately clean nothing too much trouble
Can’t think of a single thing
Breakfast was good with a nice choice, the bar was very busy with good vibes all round.
For the price I think it was ok all round.
My 2nd time here and suits me well. Really good pub, such friendly owner and staff and good food (including great value breakfast).
This time, room needed a slight bit of attention as arms of chair quite dirty/sticky and small cobweb by bedside table, but bed super comfortable, bathroom fine, so only a small gripe.
Beautiful room, very good breakfast, and very welcoming.
Cosy room, great shower and fabulous food
Liked it all
Breakfast was good varied choice staff all lovely pleasant and friendly.
Just a small gripe would have preferred a firmer mattress on the bed . Too soft for us but as only there for 3 days it didn’t spoil anything
Location, outdoor seating and evening meal
Staff dress code and pub toilets
The friendliness, the food, the location and the beer garden!
Nothing
very nice facility with the kindest staff! thank you for a very pleasant stay 💖
The welcome we received, the helpfulness of the staff, the food and the room were all outstanding!!
Nothing everything was perfect
Beautiful place to stay. So much so we have rebooked for next year. Friendly staff. Lovely choice of drinks and food. Comfortable room. Perfect location.
Enjoyable stay. Good VFM. Reccommended
Everything was superb.
Nothing to dislike a great place to stay
Staff friendly. Premises clean. Food excellent.
It was good, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
There could be better support for weather. It was hot and only one room got fan.
Lovely breakfast and evening meal pleasant staff nothing to much trouble
every good.
Love Ly friendly staff. Very clean good food. Comfortable
It is a pub so some noise on warm evenings. But to be expected.
Breakfast was reasonable for a gluten free diet although I didn't pre book
Bedroom windows weren't fitted with restrictors
everybody from the owner down were very pleasant and could'nt do enough for us. very good 3 day stay and would certainly be going back in the future.
nothing
Proper decent pub, busy, good selection of food, lots of different drinks including some brewed on site I think. Plus a large garden out back, and quite a few parking spaces. Arrival check-in was easy and staff, including owner, were super friendly, easy to talk to. Room itself was as described and bed was comfortable. Tea / coffee tray and breakfast available downstairs. Would happily stay again as I think it was good value.
If you are an early to bed person, please be aware you will hear some noise from downstairs and the garden until closing time (not an issue for me, but just for info).
Location, staff and locals very friendly, fabulous food and great location for public transport.
Nothing I didn’t like but two things would have made it even better: Shelf in shower for toiletries Bigger towels
The staff were excellent very friendly and couldn't do enough for us food was excellent and if your not staying there I would highly recommend going there for breakfast or an evening meal they didn't do meals Monday we went round Matlock town and Matlock bath and to be honest ended up with pizza the fishpond used to do decent food but burgers fish and chips pizza so is want real qty meal the red lion is the place to go excellent moot ale pie mash and fresh veg and very good menu at value price price you pay for what you get and you won't be disappointed very good family run business and micro brewery
Nothing
Helpful staff. Good food. Clean. Good location
La ubicación
Ruido del aire acondicionado de estancias de debajo de la habitación durante la noche
Great stay
Bit noisy at night
Excellent location staff are all very friendly nothing is to much trouble and food absolutely brilliant
Nothing
The room was very comfortable, the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the menu was broad and of high quality. The pub brews its own beer which is great. Would certainly stay again. Good central location for local services and restaurants.
Nothing.
The food was lovely breakfast and dinner lovely room and the people who run the pub were great nothing was too much trouble
Nothing
Couldn’t fault it. Good value, friendly, helpful staff. Good location easy to walk in to town.
Nothing
It was conveniently placed to where we wanted to be.
Our room seemed to be above an external air conditioning unit which was intrusive in the night as windows had to be open as it was a severe heatwave. Also could have done with an electric fan in the room because of heat. 🫤
Pub and room very clean, all staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was freshly cooked, and sunday carvery was huge and tasty. Short walk to nearby town/park
Nothing to not like
Great location,lovely staff
Nothing
It was comfortable and characterful
I was happy with the property
Breakfast was really good. Area was as expected.
Cleanliness of room and appearance of room. Bed uncomfortable. Noise from other guests. Wasn't the standard of clientele using pub that we expected. (Lots of swearing and attitude)
The location was good . The pub was nice and the bed was comfortable.
I booked a "Deluxe Double Roo with shower". In no way was it a "Deluxe" room. The room was small and unexceptional with no deluxe features.
The location was excellent. The welcome was great and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Perfect location close to shops, attractions and restaurants. The Red Lion is a lovely traditional comfortable pub, with friendly staff, exceptional food, free wifi and parking. Highly recommended.
Lighting was a little poor in our room and tv had limited channels
Everything was lovely. Hotel very clean, staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was good.
Would have liked a little more choice at breakfast. Maybe yoghurt, fruit, bug tge cooked choice was good.
Clean good location
Nothing
The room was clean, had everything we needed and the breakfast was gorgeous!
The breakfast was lovely. Great location.
Clean, comfortable with decent and accommodating staff.
Garden view not worth mentioning as a selling point.
The parking was a bit difficult because half of their car park spaces had a marquee on them, a beer festival I think they said
The breakfast was lovely. The time allocation was perfect lovely shower..bed was very comfortable
The carvery wasn't so nice potatoes and vegetables very hard ..Evening menu would have preferred more choice and may light bites or jacket potatoes....
The chef was extremely rude when a complaint was put in about the food
Lovley stay clean and a fantastic room
Good location. Food was amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were lovely and the shower was powerful.
The glasses for orange juice need a clean. We were woken early on the Saturday by them repairing the path outside. This started at 7am.
Central location in Matlock close to shops and restaurants as well as friendly staff and the best room in the property - room 6 where both the bedroom and en-suite were generous sizes.
Nothing negative to say
Breakfast was the best thing about this place.
No smoke detector in our room. Too much noise and cigarette smoke coming from the beer garden into our room from the only window that could be opened. The TV only received 6 channels that kept dropping out all the time due to poor signal.
Good parking,lovely staff,nice food
key for bedroom hit and miss
Good location, nice atmosphere.
TV reception was poor & ceiling needed dusting. But minor things in an enjoyable stay.
Big comfy clean room with a lovely view. Fantastic bathroom and facilities.
Friendly staff, clean rooms, nice food not too expensive. Excellent base for exploring the Peak District.
In good location. Staff very friendly and helpful Great breakfast Good pub lots of atmosphere was busy.
Nothing
Nice and clean and comfortable
Excellent breakfast, friendly staff, good location
More bar food, only more expensive food available
breakfast brilliant
na
Stayed Sunday and Monday. Sunday carvery was excellent and good value. Our favourite was breakfast. It’s a great local pub. Very friendly
Room was very small but to be fair, we paid a very reasonable price.
This is a lovely pub in a great location, easy walk to bars and restaurants. The rooms were beautiful, well maintained and very clean. Breakfast was beautiful and all of the staff were welcoming and chatty
There was nothing to dislike
Breakfast very good and freshly cooked. Bar area nicely busy.Good atmosphere.
Shower a bit tight.
Very friendly and lively pub with a good selection of real ales. Good breakfast.
The misleading description by Booking. Com of the bedroom, in no way was it Deluxe, this is not a fault of owners, more B. Com over egging the quality of the bedroom.
The location, welcome & staff are great. The evening meals were absolutely fabulous! The 2 steak meal offer, teriyaki salmon & pork tenderloin were some of the best meals we've eaten, at a pub, for a very long time. We all would highly recommend them. Full English breakfast comes highly recommended too.
Our only comment would be that room 2 would benefit from somewhere to put wash bags, in the bathroom.
Everything was as expected
TV reception could have been better
It was clean & comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful
Needs a bit of updating
The whole experience of staying here is so enjoyable, we stay at least once a year! The food is amazing, great choice of breakfast items and excellent quality local foods. The pub is very popular with locals too, they are so friendly and just to the experience. The staff are absolutely brilliant, nothing is too much for them to make your stay enjoyable. They also have their own micro brewery. Ales that they sell in the pub and you can buy to take home. All in all just a lovely place to stay in a fantastic location, on hand for all the local attractions.
I really don't think that there's anything about the Red Lion that we don't like. We just find it suits us down to the ground.
friendly people and staff. would stop there again.
no steep hills to walk up
It was clean and comfortable the food was lovely breakfast set you up got the day
Nothing
We had such a great time, friendly staff, great service, room was lovely. Definitely go back for the beer festival. thank you red lion.🙂
there was nothing we didn't like.
The Red Lion is a very welcoming local pub in Matlock just a 5 minute walk from the centre through the lovely park , Lee and his team went above and beyond to ensure my girlfriend’s surprise birthday weekend was very special even organising some flowers and cake presented at Breakfast we would most certainly be returning ! 10/10 👌
Nothing it was perfect 👌
Best breakfasts we've had in a long while! Nice room, comfy bed. Location was in a safe area in walking distance of nice bars etc.
If we were being really picky the bathroom door didn't stay closed and if you don't like pub atmosphere, it's quite loud til midnight. Didn't bother us as we went out etc but might not be for everyone
Overall expect stay, room was clean, comfortable and a great location with easy access to Matlock Bath and easy walking. Good car parking on site. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was great.
Kitchen was being refurbished so no food. However breakfast was still available.
The rooms were nice warm comfortable and clean
We had paid for having breakfast, we're told when we arrived what time breakfast is served , to only find out later on in the evening the kitchen was being refreshed and we couldn't have breakfast. I only booked about a week before sinthis musy have been known then but still offering that as an option! We booked a place we could have breakfast to relax we didn't want to be glimg out looking for some where to eat every morning . Also booked because the facilities listed you could have an evening to.fimd out when we sat down to order there was no food available. There were even dinner menus in the bedroom still !
Friendly staff
It's beautiful place and staff friendly.
All staff were friendly and approachable. Breakfast was exceptional. We found the bed very comfortable. The room appeared to be freshly decorated - the colours were very 'restful'.
The furniture in our room was a bit tatty, especially the bedside tables. The entrance to the rooms from the public area was a bit 'tired'.
Breakfast was good value with vegetarian choices. Room was comfortable and clean. Bathroom was excellent, newly refurbished with superb shower.
We missed having proper reading lamps beside the bed.
Food was very good. Staff all really attentive and friendly. Lovely beer garden. Great atmosphere
Parking was difficult. No hairdryer supplied
Access for disabled could be a significant issue.
Breakfast late starting at 8.30am unsuitable for work as had to leave each morning before getting breakfast which I had paid for.
Breakfast was fantastic
Nothing could of been better.
Breakfast and dinner both good value, nicely presented well cooked meals
Room very small and rather dated
Everything was clean and tidy. The staff are very friendly. Over all would stay again
There was nothing not to like.
Lovely pub , friendly , warm and clean location was great
Noisy woman on first night stay but mentioned this to staff and second nights sleep was good
Staff friendly we had a nice sunday lunch and good beer will stay in the Red Lion again
nothing
Staff are all excellent - helpful and kind. Convenient for town, clean, good sized room and bathroom. Great breakfast!
Noisy from the corridor outside the room, our bathroom door didn’t shut properly.
Location
Small tv, and bad reception.
Very friendly
Nothing
The food and the friendly manager
They had rin out of festive pie, but the steak pie made up. It was great.
Great location. Friendly staff. Good food.
Cant really fault my stay. Great value.
Lovely location, parking at the rear which you access from the next street short walk (5-10 min) to the town and local markets. Shampoo nd conditioner samples bottles available to save you taking any plus an hair dryer in the drawer and tea and coffee facilities in the room, quiet location and really lovely food, we had a carvery on the Sunday and breakfast both were excellent
Attention to detail on cleaning with thick cobwebs around the coving on the ceiling and curtain pole which was first thing you see when you lie down and the lamp was on them, also tv only had limited tv channels even after re-tuning it as only had access to channels through the antenna Ariel and wallpaper coming away from the wall. Bed was a bit hard for us but not a deal breaker still slept and you still return and recommend.
Cosy pub with lovely atmosphere and great ales (brewed on site) delicious food, comfortable and clean accommodation
Nothing.
Friendly staff,
Car park was full
Excellent Breakfast and Sunday carvery
Great location, not in but close enough to town centre. Close to many lovely walks. Helpful, friendly staff, excellent meals, both breakfast and evening meals. Excellent value for money. Very good atmospheric pub with excellent range of beers and wines. Free parking. Very comfy bed.
