We went for a wedding. Really helpful staff. Lovely setting. Ample parking.
The bar drinks were very expensive which we felt was unnecessary.
Room
Breakfast service a little slow
lovely building and terrace for drinks, helpful staff, good food -
I loved the decor of the hotel, my room, and bathroom. They provided free biscuits and water daily which was lovely. Overall, staff were friendly.
The main issue I had was that my bed was very uncomfortable. I could feel the springs so it hurt my back. I would expect high quality hotel mattresses in a pricey hotel like the Alverton, so I might be a bit hesitant to stay again and risk poor sleep. The afternoon tea was a hit and a miss due to average taste overall. Breakfast was good, however I ordered pancakes and asked if I could have a different fruit instead of banana (due to an allergy) but I was served plain pancakes with syrup. Adding a few berries or a couple of cut up strawberries shouldn’t have been an issue. I was disappointed.
Very attractive hotel, impressive architecture. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was quiet even when wedding dancing/partying was taking place elsewhere in the hotel (we were in room 12). Breakfasts were very good (continental plus hot food options). Car parking is available on-site but can get busy/packed.
We ate dinner there on the first night and it was bland/mediocre and under-seasoned as well as being expensive (£89 for my wife and I for 2 courses each plus 1 alcoholic and 1 non-alcoholic cocktail). The service was also super slow - we waited about 75 minutes for our main courses. I wonder if this was because there was a wedding earlier that day. Would suggest taking the breakfasts here but eating elsewhere for lunch/dinner - especially if on a budget like us. Room 12 is also near the boiler and so is pretty warm - not much the hotel can do about this but we'd suggest booking a different room if you like it to be cool for sleeping.
Very central for our needs. Hotel in lovely grounds and imposing.
Our room wasn’t easy to find as the location of the numbering was strange. We had to climb stairs, along a passageway, drop down more stairs, along corridors and eventually found our No.16!! Without the help of a very helpful member of staff, we might still be looking for our room!!
No negativity really, some carpets have seen better days but that doesn't affect the experience
Standard room was large and comfortable, and nice and clean. Bathroom was huge, with a big walk in shower. The bar staff were friendly and efficient.
No issues. Our room was above the outside door to the kitchens so was a little noisy early on, but this was not a problem later when we wanted to sleep, and the room was pretty quiet.
Sehr gut
Absolutely first class service. All the staff were so friendly and polite. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The room was stunning. We booked the garden view room and the size of the room and bathroom was impressive. Everything you needed in the room was provided and we had the best night's sleep, the bed was so comfy. Breakfast was equally impressive with a variety of choice, again staff were equally polite and friendly! Thank you for making our stay an enjoyable one, we will definitely return.
Nothing, everything was perfect.
Everything
Nothing
The building is very beautiful from the outside, nice garden, good location.
The breakfasts were disappointing and the selection was very limited. The decor was very shabby, and the room didn't meet expectations for the price.
Staff and service was exceptional, especially at dinner, when there were six different people for different aspects. However, this was not intrusive or overpowering, just very efficient. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Dinner was delicious.
The weather !!!! The Alverton is a beautiful, character property in a lovely location, so it would have been lovely to enjoy the surroundings. Next time!
Staff members are so friendly & polite. Couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was superb , as was our dinner. Had scalops followed by fillet steak , tasty and cooked spot on. Was our silver anniversary & was given complimentary sparkling wine. How lovely of them.
Nothing . Everything was superb
Lovely location and comfortable room. Excellent staff.
Lovely room and very dog friendly.
Nothing it was lovely
The room was great with a fantastic bathroom. Staff were all lovely. Wonderful building and grounds.
Breakfast was abysmal. Shouldn't have been served in that condition - burnt sausage, hash browns that couldn't be cut, even managed to dry out the mushroom. Toast & coffee was good, however!! Lovely waitress offered to replace, but time constraints meant we couldn't wait.
Very friendly staff, dog friendly, nothing any trouble. Lovely building and nice big soft towels.
Room was a little small and could hear a humming sound overnight.
Incredible setting, lovely staff will be back again!
We initially called the property to book, and they gave a higher price for the room to what I eventually booked online
The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic, we ate breakfast lunch and dinner. The room was comfortable, old fashioned but recently redecorated
The carpets were very old and threadbare in many places
Really nice property with good facilities
Lo spazio all'aperto e la colazione
Staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful. Our Garden Superior Room was let down slightly by having a small fridge on the floor (perhaps it needed to be on a small table) a cheap looking "dressing table" and a TV (not used) that looked like an afterthought stuck up on the wall. Breakfast was disappointing on both days- bagel was possibly not defrosted fully and cold, and scrambled eggs were not freshly cooked on the Sunday morning even though we were one of the first customers. However we enjoyed our stay thank you very much.
See above
Very good service as usual been to this hotel over many years
Nice, comfortable and relaxing. Staff are very polite and the food is delicious
This is our second stay and we would highly recommend this hotel . Beautiful place
Nice building nice location lovely staff lovely room comfortable bed bath and shower nice gardens
The food was below the standard I expected from a hotel of this standard
Beautiful exterior, very private site with ample parking
Interior doesn’t quite match the beauty of the exterior. Breakfast was poor, don’t recommend the avocado on sourdough- it’s pre-made guacamole on a very thin slice of bread. Very sloppy.
This place is a beautiful class the breakfast is a superb good location 10 minutes from Truro station to Paddling station London. Lovely staff we had a wonderful weekend here. Good taxi service available
Full of character being a former convent nice grounds
Bit tired I prefer a big walkin shower than a step into bath
Prächtiges Gebäude mit grossen, geräumigen Zimmern. Sehr freundliches Personal.
Excellent choice for breakfast. Comfortable rooms. Lovely quiet setting. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Decor looked a little tired in places, eg the carpet in the bar and brasserie areas.
ALL the Staff were brilliant, knowledgable, obliging and and willing to 'Banter' Nothing was to much trouble.
Breakfast good however the 'Cornish Breakfast' varied in that cooking quality different daily, Last evening dinner, I dont complain and eat anything however The Beef evening special, was very tough and even I was defeated. Staff busy so no fuss.
Location is perfect for my needs and lots of parking
Small housekeeping issues, dust, poor fitting bed linen, downgraded toiletries since my last stay.
It was so wonderful. Loved the buildings
Nothing
Super nettes Personal, zentrale Lage mitten in Cornwall, moderne Bäder, gute Betten, ruhig, sicherer Parkplatz
Proximity and very nice place
No air conditioning
Lovely position
No air conditioning, carpets in dining room dirty and rucked up in areas, possible trip hazard.breakfast service a bit chaotic and last breakfast scrambled egg was like dry confetti scattered over a pice of soggy toast
Good sized and comfotable rooms
Room not cleaned as aparently the short 1 hour we were in the room between 2-3pm is when they needed to get in
Beautiful, spacious, quiet and comfortable
It’s on a steep hill, and there were a few too many stairs up to our room. But we could have requested a room on the ground floor and we didn’t. The view from up there was very nice.
L'edificio storico è davvero molto bello
Its a beautiful building. We had a lovely evening there, it looks beautiful at night. The staff are amazing go out there way. I would definitely visit again
I would book a room on the first floor next time. I will bear in mind for future stays
Lovely hotel, good breakfast & good location
Lovely terrace for a late afternoon drink. The hotel had character.
Overall the hotel was fine, but our room needed a little bit more cleaning of the shower area (black mould starting to build in the corners) to maintain good cleanliness. Some carpets need replacing.
Lovely historic property within walking distance of town. Staff so friendly and food was very good
Nothing
Amazing hotel, rooms were excellent, staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Everything was excellent
Très bel endroit et emplacement
The coffee cups and spoons stand are dirty from previous customers. And next day, they still didn’t clean them.
Breakfast could use more variety.
Stated one night at the hotel whilst attending a birthday party . What a lovely experience. Excellent room with a very comfy bed . First class service by friendly professional staff . Ate in the restaurant. Food was exceptional. All in all a superb hotel . We will be back next year for a longer stay .
We had our Wedding here this July. The venue is absolutely stunning and the great hall in my option is second to none. Clare and Sally were absolutely brilliant put us at easy every step of the way and nothing was ever too much trouble even when I made a last minute addition to our day including liaising with all our vendors, also their guidance and support was invaluable. Food was delicious and the rooms were equally spectacular, the venue is a real hidden gem. Thank you to everyone at The Alverton for making our day so special.
A wonderful stay once again. Ollie the Head Chef created a special menu for us as a celebration. It was superb and exceptionally well presented as well as tasting fantastic. Charlotte and Alex in the restaurant were their usual very attentive selves and Ellie created some brilliant cocktails from the bar. From the moment you arrive the reception staff greet you and make you feel special. Well done to the management team for encouraging and supporting their team to create such a welcoming atmosphere .
Location , food and service excellent
Having to leave
The building was lovely and the staff. And the breakfasts!
I didnt like that the rooms for my family weren't near or next to each other. I was disappointed with the view from our room and there was no bath. Some of the decor seemed really swish and some needed a lot of updating.
Impressive building
After I booked I was told due to kitchen repairs it would only be continental breakfast
Large comfortable room, excellent breakfast.
Hard to cool the room down, but it was unusually hot weather at the time.
The lady that checked us in was soooooo lovely and welcoming and they loves our dog enzo.
No window to open in the room and it was extremely hot, with no air con.so we had to prop our door open which felt intrusive. Service at the restaurant in the evening was incredibly slow with waiters having little knowledge and were not attentive, considering what we spent it did not feel special. Breakfast again was very slow but the staff member was very loved it cancelled out the frustration of the slow service.
Staff were pleasant Hotel was lovely
Room was basic Food was expensive and they ran out of stuff There's nothing to do in hotel or not much near by
Location was great. Everything was clean. The staff were lovely and helpful. We were staying for a wedding. There was EV charging which was a plus for us. Check in was easy. Breakfast was lovely.
The rooms were very hot - would have appreciated a fan as there was no air con and the windows don’t open very widely.
Close to city centre Less than ten minutes walk
Quality hotel and a good price
An amazing, quirky building in a great location for Truro centre, but that would be nothing without great staff. And they were. Everyone that I had contact with was really friendly whilst being professional and, together, they made my two night stay very pleasant indeed. And that goes for the staff behind the scenes, too. My room was clean and beautifully made up, and every part of the hotel that I saw was spotless. Breakfast both mornings was fresh and tasty, save my evening meal (the pork) was absolutely delicious and accompanied by a good selection of wines. I don't often revisit places but this is I've place that I will definitely be returning to. Thanks everyone.
A wonderfully relaxing stay. Well equipped bedroom & bathroom, gorgeously comfy bed. Great location within walking distance of the city centre. Beautifully modernised historic buildings with gardens and terrace for relaxation. Really, a faultless hotel, with the icing on the cake being the fabulous staff. Whether in reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping, without fail they were all friendly, efficient, helpful and eager to please. That’s why we keep returning! Cannot recommend them too highly.
We had a lovely 3 days at the Alverton, we found the hotel comfy and clean. All the staff were so helpful. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but we did eat in the evening from the bar menu and found the food good value and tasty. We will definitely return on our next Cornwall break as Truro is a fantastic base to explore the county.
Attended the Alverton in Truro today for a family occasion. Amazing customer service, wonderful and beautiful surroundings and caring staff. This is the very best of hospitality in Cornwall! Thank you everyone - you always make it so special.
We had the best time away at the Alverton. We stayed in 43 which is a lovely, quiet and peaceful room. Angelina and Summer on reception were always happy to help when we needed it. Patrick and Ellie in the bar made us some amazing drinks. We had an amazing Sunday lunch where Lauren and Bonnie looked after us. We also enjoyed an evening meal that was delicious! The staff were all so kind to us which made the stay more enjoyable. We would definitely come back!
Beautiful hotel, lovely food, really nice attentive staff. We stayed here for a wedding and our room was amazing, the hotel itself is so nice I loved everything about it. We stayed in for dinner on the 1st night and the food was so good. Breakfast was brilliant also. The wedding itself they put on such a nice day it was perfect. Would recommend staying here to everyone.
Everything ! Nothing was to much trouble
Nothing
The rooms were clean and delightful, good facilities and easy to get to.
Comfortable bed
Good range of drinks in bedroom and nice biscuits. Lovely restaurant with reasonable choice of meals. Enjoyable breakfast with good selection of cooked options. Walking distance into Truro.
We were there in a heatwave so the bedroom in the eaves was very hot, though a fan was provided.
Also, I'd booked a single room but it certainly wasn't cramped in any way. Breakfast both mornings was fresh and tasty, and my evening meal (the pork) was absolutely delicious and accompanied by a good selection of wines. I don't often revisit places but this is I've place that I will definitely be returning to. Thanks everyone.
Nothing.
Such a beautiful hotel and stunning room! We felt welcome right away when we entered the reception. Cassie was so helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Dinner was 10/10. We had steak and sole — they were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. Jade, our server, was very helpful and friendly. And breakfast was the icing on the cake! Chris was so accommodating and definitely took our visit to the next level. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so special!
Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Hotel is working a short walk of central Truro with lovely grounds and very peaceful. Lovely room ion the courtyard with a large bathroom.
we stayed during a heat wave and although recently renovated, the room had no air con and the fan provided was too small to help much
Really friendly and helpful staff, a stunning building, delicious cocktails and super comfortable bed.
Old and rustic
The Alverton is perfectly situated within 5 minutes walk of central Truro and yet very peaceful with lovely grounds and plenty of parking. We stayed (twice) in the courtyard. Lovely spacious rooms with a large bathroom with walk in shower and separate bath. Our only complaint was that the room was very hot (it was a heatwave!) and there was no air conditioning, just a small fan which did little to cool the large room. The room was always beautifully clean. The staff were all lovely and very helpful throughout our stay. We think the hotel gives good value for money and will be returning!
Stunning hotel in beautiful grounds. Plenty of parking, lovely staff (friendly and welcoming), comfy bed, great shower, lots of storage space and lovely tea and coffee facilities. The bar and outside seating area were great. The bar staff were particularly friendly-making conversation instantly- and let us try some of the local beers. The reception staff quickly provided an air conditioning unit when we alerted them to the temperature of the room. Nice breakfast and good selection of cereals and fruit.
We were in Room 11. The was no curtain in the bathroom and it was unbearably hot. We were sweating the minute we stepped out of the shower. The room was very warm too but the staff did their best to provide an air conditioning unit. Being a high class hotel we would have expected the bathroom to be spotless. The ingrained dirt on the shower tray and the mould around the window were a little off putting. Room 11 does also have some noise from the kitchen area early in the morning-just to make you aware. A couple of the breakfast staff seemed lack lustre (this was by no means a reflection of all of the staff however, some of them were excellent) and it took ages for us to be offered tea or coffee and for them to take our choice of breakfast. I did find it annoying that you had to pay extra for a 'speciality coffee'- for example latte or flat white. If anything let the hotel down, it would be breakfast-maybe it just needs revising? At other hotels, we've always been offered tea or coffee as we are shown to our table so maybe that could be one way to start improving things?
loved the history of the building and the location was brilliant. breakfast both times was lovely, fabulous morning staff. we are at the restaurant one of the nights and it was a 10/10. we appreciated the fan but it was uncomfortably hot for the two days/nights, but we survived!
location, history, gardens, staff
Enjoyed our first stay here (in Truro for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) and what a lovely hotel. I could be picky as there were loads of stairs to our room and no aircon but the room was lovely and comfortable (the fan was much appreciated). We enjoyed a night cap after the theatre and, much to my surprise, I had one of the best margaritas I’ve had outside of the USA…thanks to the lovely Babette behind the bar…simply perfect! The hotel team were great, from reception, the bar and the restaurant where we had a delicious breakfast too. All in all a great first stay and I’m sure we’ll be back.
Lovely character hotel in a perfect setting for my trip
The room was incredibly hot and an insufficient fan didn’t do much
Lovely hotel - ideal location close to town centre yet lovely hotel and grounds. Good room, staff attentive, service good, all food and drink great.
no fridge in room
Proximity to city centre
Room was very dark
It’s a very classy hotel with very high standards - the staff do everything they can to make you feel both welcome and comfortable. The food is exceptionally good, both for routine meals like breakfast and in the restaurant.
It’s not the hotels fault but, being listed, the rooms aren’t air-conditioned -rather they use fans, which aren’t as effective in this current prolonged heatwave. However, that would not put me off staying there.
Its locality to Truro
Nothing
kontinentales Frühstück könnte besser sein,
Belüftungsmöglichkeit gering und wenig Tageslicht im Zimmer,
Great location, staff were exceptional in all areas. Food was lovely and they catered for coeliac diet. Our suite was spacious, bed comfortable, bathroom with large walk in shower, bath was in bedroom.
Room had not been dusted, and was not dusted for the 10 day duration. Steep hill and two flights of stairs with no lift, difficult, when mobility challenged. During our stay there was a prom and 2 weddings, for each of these we were limited for seating as the guests for events were prioritised and seats in the bar were reserved for them. Residential guests should be considered and not made to feel unwanted and uncomfortable. The rooms really need aircondotion units that can be window vented so does not affect the building, it was impossible to sleep as the room was exceptionally hot, with a small tower fan that was ineffective.
Great location, lovely hotel, comfortable rooms, good breakfast
Service in the restaurant was inconsistent
Very friendly staff, especially Charlotte in the restaurant
Very tired looking & our room was right at the top, extremely hot with one very noisy fan! Had to get rid of a huge spider that had taken up residence in the room😬
We stayed for week in a Garden Room during a visit to Cornwall with my wife during a heat-wave. The room was large and airy with two bathrooms. The staff had put a large fan in the room and it was running when we went in and it kept the room at a comfortable temperature during the stay. We had breakfast every morning included. The service was quick and efficient with helpful, friendly and polite staff, the food and choice were excellent. There was plenty of parking at the hotel and the bar was great with a cool outside seating area. There was complimentary Wi-Fi in the room and it was acceptable, albeit a bit slow. This was the only slight negative about the accommodation and I am being particularly picky as otherwise the experience was fantastic. The hotel and surroundings were lovely and we were very glad we picked this hotel for what was a fantastic stay in Cornwall.
It was convenient, & comfortable
