Easy to find Parking spot with EV a bonus Nice short walk to town Easy route to hospital which is why we stayed Good breakfast Friendly welcoming staff Nice bar and good Comfortable beds and fan was a bonus for a stay in the heat
Nothing We used this place twice in two weeks for hospital visits
Nettes zuvorkommendes Personal, gute Lage.
Breakfast was the poorest l have ever encountered.. it was like a canteen. The food was completely basic of basics. No hot food whatsoever, apart if you wanted to boil your own egg !
The room (which was more like a broom cupboard) had very little light apart from a tiny fanlight that you couldn’t see out of next to the ceiling. A shower room that had no shelves to put your shampoo etc (which is a standard requirement) No shelves either in the bathroom itself to putany toiletries. No drawers whatsoever in the bedroom itself to put clothes, had to live out of my case, which had to be put on the bed as there was no room to put it. A wholly unacceptable woeful hotel that was more like l would imagine a hostel to be.
The staff were amazing. They were super helpful, polite and courteous. On arrival I was greeted with a welcoming smile & warm welcome by Eliot. I walk with a stick and have to my time on stairs. Eliot waa really kind and carried my bags up for me. At breakfast, one of the young ladies, Layla, was extremely helpful offering to carry my bowl and plate to the table. I really appreciated her help and the help of the other young ladies too. My room and all areas were super clean. I enjoyed my stay at hotel Vara, made all the more special by the lovely staff working there. I would highly recommend The Vara hotel. Thank you for looking after me.
Clean and bright. Friendly helpful staff

Comfortable and clean, conveniently situated close to the town.
Only downside was my bedroom window opened out onto the car park but as I had only booked the previous day there was probably no other choice.
very nice thanks
to good
Lovely hotel, nicely decorated with great staff. Short walk to the town centre, with lots of recommendations from the Manager/Proprietor.
Nothing, it was great
Beautiful building, amazing stain glass window.
No lift, I should have asked for a room close to the reception.
Generally, pretty good experience - staff friendly and professional, room clean and comfortable and walkable distance into town. Breakfast was very good.
I would have liked the bed to have been 'made up' each day (not changed) and coffee/tea/ biscuit provisions replenished. Some nice artwork and interior styling generally, though staircase and corridors to Rooms 1-6 had 'no' art at all and so felt cold and bare as a result.
Everything. From smiling staff to the beautiful color pallette, corners and seating areas, food quality to bedroom comfort. Lovely place
Nothing to dislike
Kept very clean in all areas
Everything OK
Nothing
We loved everything. Sandy at reception was so welcoming. The rooms were spotless and just beautiful. The hotel was very modern and decorated nicely. Beds were so comfortable.
That we had to leave and go home.
The hotel is conveniently located for Truro city centre. The downstairs area is nice to sit in (apart from tinny musak).
It seems the hotel has deteriorated under new management. The room (in the extension at the back) was small, dark and claustrophobic, with only a tiny window up high. I've never been in such an unpleasant room. The fire door immediately outside slammed loudly and woke us (they improved it somewhat). The toilet didn't flush easily and there wasn't even a toilet roll holder! I was disappointed there was no cooked breakfast and the waitress seemed to think the breakfast room was her space (shouting to her colleague, crashing about with cutlery). She barely broke off to speak to us when we arrived, which felt rude. It was unbearable having to endure another guest's mobile phone loudcasting, so we had to leave. This happened again in the lounge.
Location
Very nice staff
Room was spacious & clean. Bed very comfortable. Location brilliant for a night out staycation!
No cooked breakfast.
Good value for money , comfortable and nice central location.
Staff entering rooms without giving any notice even while the do not disturb sign was in the door.
Comfortable hotel with a lot of stairs to negotiate. The hotel is placed on a very steep hill although it has bus stops right outside. The breakfast was very tasty but don't expect a full English.
Nothing. Very comfortable we enjoyed our stay very much.
Comodissimo parcheggio.
The staff were absolutely amazing! I had recently injured my self before arriving and the staff went out of their way to help me! One member even went out to go and get me some medicine on her off time! They went above and beyond! Would 100% recommend to anyone to stay here!
Perfect hotel, good location and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially Sandy. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was good Comfy bed and excellent shower Definitely stay again!
Property downstairs has been renovated beautifully. Bar/dining area is lovely and reception area is welcoming. Staff were exceptionally polite and lovely.
Our room must have been one of the last not renovated, the bathroom didn’t have a shower (just a hose tap over a bath) and no shower curtain. It was dated and out of keeping with the rest of the hotel. We booked a double and had two twin beds at different heights pushed together. The “buffet” breakfast is croissants fruit and slices of cheese and ham. Not quite what we expected but fine.
Clean tidy, nice staff
No shower only bath,
Staff and location
Breakfast was not specified on booking if continental or full breakfast. Was included in our booking but they want to charge us for hot cooked breakfast
Stayed one night here whilst attending a wedding . Lovely hotel . Room was very spacious and clean . Breakfast was excellent . Reasonably priced for the time of year . Owners were very friendly . Definitely recommend booking to stay here . We will return .
Parking + location
Very thin walls, the building is old so everything made noise. The bathroom was tiny and there was no heated towel rack, the only place to hang towels was literally above the toilet, there wasn't even a hook on the door. Breakfast was really small and on g reviews they keep saying you can request some warm food items to everyone who complains, but when asked twice the server said that's not an option lol.
Friendly place with parking, availability of plant based milk upon request. lovely building
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Pizza's were fantastic!
I would have liked a bit more of an extensive menu but certainly couldn't complain about the quality of the food.
L'accueil, l'espace et l'emplacement.
La cortesia dello staff.
Camere non insonorizzate.
The room was clean and comfortable and both it and the bathroom were in excellent condition. There was also a decent fan provided which was very welcome in the heat wave that was occurring. Breakfast was well presented in a lovely, spacious room and was a really nice Continental. I also had dinner in the Bar the night I arrived and the pizza was excellent. Staff were both welcoming and friendly as well as efficient and very upbeat.
Staff - nothing was too much trouble
We travelled during the hot weather and room was very warm
The room was ok, size wise. Bed was comfy. We appreciated the fan, although we would've preffered air con. Staff friendly and welcoming.
The breakfast was not great, we eat healthy and didnt have a lot of options, no veggies, you could boil eggs but 9 mins was a lot. There were croissants, jam and muesli options which we didnt like. Just one option of cheese and salami which we didnt like. We've had a bit of plain yogurt, (frozen) forest fruits and seeds. Coffee was really good though. Would be nice if at least the eggs are already boiled and have 2 options for cheese and ham plus 2 for veggies.
The staff were delightful, happy and helpful at all times. The complimentary continental breakfast was also a bonus. Hotel is in a great location, just a short stroll down the hill into town with a good selection of restaurants and bars on the way.
The biggest issue was the room had no shower! Just a bath. Totally unacceptable in this day and age and no mention of this in the room description when booking. The bedroom itself was ok, had been renovated to a degree but still had an old small plasma TV and an ill fitting, budget blind in the window which let through heaps of light, so expect to be woken early when sunny. No aircon of course being the current standard for the UK.
Great location. Breakfast was really good. Room was good and staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend.
The staff were really lovely and from arrival brought our luggage to our room. check in was smooth and easy. the room was very clean and so was the bathroom. I'm a clean freak so I notice when things aren't spotless! Bed was very very comfortable, I had a wonderful night's sleep (and usually I dont sleep well so this was a big bonus!). Breakfast was great there was a big selection available. I'm not sure if the croissants are baked fresh everyday as there were some left out the evening before (and I dont know if they were cleared away the next morning or not), but other than that everything else looked good. You could also request extra things or a small charge from the menu so they really accommodated everything. it was a short trip but I wish I extended my stay even longer.
Excellent in all respects - friendly late check-in, well appointed room including excellent fan for the hot weather, and great service. highly recommended
Very satisfied with the hotel, breakfast was fine, location good for city centre and staff very pleasant. Plenty of free, accessible parking which is always a bonus.
Perhaps a wardrobe in our room, rather than a rail. We only stayed two nights but if staying for a week may have needed more storage.
Room was large, bed was comfortable, bus stop right outside, easy walk to downtown and other areas. We would stay here again!
We booked Hotel Vara while attending a wedding because it was advertised as being dog friendly. As owners of a well-behaved 7-year-old Labrador, we were pleased to find accommodation that appeared to welcome dogs. Unfortunately, our experience could not have been more different. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, Tim Brocklebank, who immediately focused on our dog and repeatedly told us, “we have a problem.” Before we had even checked in, we were asked a series of questions such as whether the dog was house trained, went on beds, chewed walls, or barked. While it is understandable for a hotel to have policies regarding pets, the manner in which these questions were asked made us feel completely unwelcome and uncomfortable from the outset. Our Labrador is fully house trained, not allowed on furniture, and is extremely well behaved. We would never take him to stay in a hotel if this were not the case. Despite this, we were made to feel as though bringing him was an inconvenience. The owner even commented on the dog moulting and stated that he would need to block the room for three days after our departure for cleaning. We offered to pay an additional cleaning fee if necessary, but by that point we were already considering finding alternative accommodation because of how embarrassed and unwelcome we felt. We were then moved to a smaller room with a wooden floor, which was supposedly more suitable and therefore we would not be charged the £30 fee for the dog. Unfortunately, the room was tiny, extremely hot, and poorly ventilated. There was only a small sash window and a small fan that simply circulated warm air. Even though the outdoor temperature was only around 20°C, the room was uncomfortably warm. I dread to think how unpleasant it would be during hotter weather. The bathroom was equally disappointing. The shower had been squeezed into an incredibly small space that felt more like a cupboard than a shower room. It was so cramped that even picking something up from the floor was difficult. Anyone larger than average would likely struggle to use it comfortably. There was no wardrobe to hang clothes just a six pronged coat hook half of which was covered with a cupboard below. The overall atmosphere throughout our stay felt unwelcoming and unnecessarily restrictive. During the wedding celebrations, two young children were quietly playing outside under the supervision of both their father and a qualified teacher. They were using a lightweight net bag containing wildflower seeds and were not causing any disruption to other guests. Despite this, the owner came outside and instructed them to stop because other guests were arriving. While the children were playing in the car park area, the concern did not appear to be related to their safety. Given that the children were appropriately supervised and behaving responsibly, this interaction felt unnecessarily harsh and contributed to the overall impression of an unfriendly environment Overall, while Hotel Vara may advertise itself as dog friendly, that was certainly not our experience. We arrived excited for a friend’s wedding but were made to feel like a problem the moment we walked through the door. Between the uncomfortable welcome, tiny overheated room, cramped facilities, and unfriendly atmosphere, I would not choose to stay here again.
The staff at this hotel really make this a very pleasant place to stay. Further lovely pizzas in the bar in the evening, and a good breakfast. The only downside was the price, which at £170 for a twin with breakfast is quite steep. The corridor decor is gloomy, and the rooms clean but average. Otherwise great experience.
Kitchen service, bar staff, facility of late night access if needed!!!
Surprised at having to nake my bed and lack of maid service!! My main dislike was the atrocious quality of the lavatory paper, cost cutting and efficiency OK, but poor quality loo paper is inexcusable!!!!
Quiet with nice welcome and attentive staff. Comfortable, if quite small, room but airy and not too hot during warm weather. Breakfast was good. Location excellent for pubs, restaurants and the city and cathedral.
When a tour group came the breakfast choice was reduced but the staff provided more on request.
Colazione buona.
Easy car parking Lovely hotel
Not a lot to be honest apart from the bus stop outside
Small room one very small window no air con in temperatures of over 80 plus no cooked breakfast
The location was good for my working visit
No air conditioning in any part of the building not great for staying now or any summer months .
Good transport route and the hotel was very tidy. Very clean.
Nothing. Nice stay.

Everything. Very comfortable& staff were amazing & very friendly.
Nothing.
Lovely staff. Great location.
Breakfast was enjoyable for our brief visit of a couple of days as there is no cooked option but maybe would need a change if staying for longer. Our room was also adequate for a short stay but would have been a little uncomfortable in really hot weather. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Accoglienza ottima e colazione ok
Great renovated decor Very helpful staff
Showers were unacceptable
Very modern and up to date decor plenty of parking
Better explanation of size of bedroom perfectly adequate but on the smaller side
Welcoming and the staff were incredibly helpful. They are making a real effort to maintain a cheerful atmosphere
Very clean. Decoration downstairs,was good
Wash basin had no working light, tap was loose. Very hot.. found fan the next morning. As it was so hot we could have been told7 there was one in the room. Very bare decoratively Breakfast was OK but tables were not cleared n we had to wait n ask for everything, rather than being asked by staff.
Really helpful staff. I very much appreciated my breakfast bag which was prepared for me to take away at 630 am.
The stairs are quite steep.
Location excellent Staff very helpful and attentive Very clean serviced accommodation Good evening meal. Very varied and plentiful breakfast Great options Very satisfied. Would stay again
Beautifully furnished in a gorgeous location
Our room was a little small but it was a cabin style room with cladded ceilings and very little light through a small window having said that , it was as described and price reflected that . Very pleasant with local Cornish biscuits and coffee.
it was a lovely stay, clean and peaceful
the breakfast option was very limited
Breakfast very good Some noise from other guests on floors / stairs not carpeted
Code for wi fi had a hash. The box covered the symbol which needed shift as well. TV was a pain with so many channels. Further from station than realised.

The location was great as we were in Truro to attend a show at the Hall of Cornwall. The two staff members who greeted us on arrive were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel didn’t seem particularly busy, yet other guests were placed in the room next door. So we were awoken by them around midnight trying to open their door and talking loudly. I didn’t see the sense in placing somebody right next door to our room when other rooms must have been available. Also, it’s a minor point but the menu at breakfast stated items that you could order. However, the person in the dining area asked us if we wanted tea or coffee and then we didn’t see her again.
Good location in a quiet area but within walking or bussing distance of the centre. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable bed, room just the right size. Cozy lounge area. Value for money.
Very little, just the slight shortage of staff at breakfast, but then it was a weekend out of season.
Great location. Room was comfy and absolutely spotless. The staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious- the spread was great.
Vara is very clean and smartly decorated. Comfortable bed and some hot drink making facilities. Continental style breakfast is decent with cheese, salami, freshly baked croissants and jam/marmalade. The pizzas are local ales are good. Staff are professional and helpful.
I was very well received by Stuart, who was always friendly and helpful to me.
Being charged £3 for a packet of peanuts, in a fancy packet containing about half a dozen peanuts. Rip-off.
I had a really lovely stay at Hotel Vara. The hotel was clean, modern, and had a really cute, stylish feel throughout. I especially liked the bathroom. The rain shower head was a great touch and made it feel a bit more luxurious. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Breakfast was also lovely, with a nice continental selection to start the day. The location is really convenient, too, about a 10-minute walk into town, which was perfect for getting around easily without being in a noisy area. Overall, it was a perfect stay, and I would definitely come back.
Great welcome and booking in. Clean ,fresh , light room. Simple but fresh continental breakfast. Great pot of Earl Grey and cafetière of coffee made promptly at breakfast.. plus toast. Easy to access town.
I asked for slightly bigger double , it didn’t seem slightly bigger but might have been. Shower and shower room very small and cramped. Up 40 stairs to room … could have mentioned no lift .
Helpful and friendly staff
Nothing it was a great hotel
I think the showers need some mats as quite slippery
Pleasant bedroom and communal areas. Good food. Welcoming staff. Good position for exploring the town and free parking.
Difficult to find as we did not know Truro. Although that could have been partly due to our satnav! No lift. Steep stairs for the elderly/impaired, especially hauling heavy cases up and down.
Very modern, clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
Clean and friendly
Room very small, breakfast was basic, good for single night stay.
Ideal location. Nice and quiet
Shower needs needs a shower mat as was very slippery.
Our one night stay was perfect and we would highly recommend Hotel Vara. We were a family travelling with our dog. Family room was perfect for us and our spaniel was happy with her mat, fresh water in her bowl and biscuits! Staff were informative and helpful. Room was clean and beds comfortable. Lovely breakfast too Would definately stay again
Room very small with small high window. Ok for one night but no more.
Size of room and lack of window
This is a great hotel, we have stayed a few times while visiting family in Truro. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and cosy. The whole atmosphere of the hotel - living room and log burning fire, dining area and bar, breakfast room - is friendly and relaxing. Staff go out of their way to help, and are friendly and efficient.
Great breakfast and comfortable room.
Room smelt a bit weird
The hotel was perfection, staff super friendly and service was exceptional.
