Exceptional value for money. So clean and in such a great position. Great communication from host.

The property is very well located 2 mins from the City Centre. Next to a busy main road the room was unbelievably peaceful. The guest house is tastefully furnished with a comfy bed, and a good breakfast was provided. I liked the little touches, such as Earl Grey and Green Tea with Jasmine teabags in the tea/coffee room selection when invariably one is offered no choice other than 'breakfast tea' . The host was very pleasant and was able to provide inhouse bicycle storage.

I could have used a bit of instruction on the use of a modern shower faucet. I'm 80 and a handrail on the last two steps to the second floor would have been helpful and safer.

A gem in Carlisle

Vegetarian breakfast filling & nicely presented. Early morning staff member was delightful. Melanie was accommodating & efficient when I arrived before check-in time.

Single room was great...size ample...but because weather was so hot & humid at the time I stayed, it felt rather 'over-full' with stuff. Our summers are destined to become hotter & longer - a more minimalist, cooler look & feel may please single guests.

Our host Melanie was friendly and helpful and frequently checked we had everything we needed. The whole place was clean and well presented and we enjoyed a choice of delicious breakfast every morning.

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming. My single room was at the back so little or no traffic noise. There was a sink and mirror and hand towel in the room.

The traffic lights are arranged so that it’s hard to get to the actual building - you have to walk a long way round. Having said that, the location is only a short walk away from the station and city centre. The single room was pretty small and there wasn’t a big towel for the shower. The bathroom is shared, which I knew beforehand.

Convenient location for centre of city.

Booking.com gave the impression that it would not have been possible to have breakfast there and I made other plans accordingly. It was, however, possible to have breakfast there. I suspect that the fault is not the GH's but the Booking.com listing.

Gorgeous hotel, friendly staff, lovely room with lots of little thoughtful touches. Super clean with a comfortable bed we were very happy with the rom.

As I chose somewhere close to Station / Cathedral ( location is excellent, very central) I should have remembered to take earplugs as I'm noise sensitive and woke to the trains through the night. This was a personal thing as my friend slept great, but if I stayed again ( and I would!) I would take ear plugs.

This is a lovely and cosy property managed by a nice and attentive host. The room was very comfortable, and I was greeted with a cute welcome pack and a thank you card - a very sweet touch. The bathroom, although shared, was clean and working as expected. They also served a nice breakfast on demand, and kindly accommodated my vegan diet requirements. I had a really great stay and would definitely stay again!

I liked everything and would definitely stay there again! As feedback, the only thing I think could have been better were the window blinds: they didn't block very well the light in the early summer mornings. Luckily I had an eye mask with me, so this wasn't a problem in the end.

Excellent location in a very attractive part of town which made the stay a pleasure.

There were an awful lot of inspirational posters about the place - enough to frankly be a trifle counterproductive.

Nice and simple a home away from home feeling, the room was nice and had everything needed.

This was a one-night stop for us on the way north. We had the back room on the ground floor, which provided us with a quiet night. The beds were comfortable and there was a small fridge, which saved us running our portable car-cooler. We had dinner at the Siam Thai Restaurant just a short walk away, which was surprisingly good. Breakfast was great, with a lot of choices. Parking was convenient on the adjacent side street. Melanie was very welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Perfect location for what we needed. Great host. And the comfiest bed we’ve slept on in a long time. The breakfast was fantastic.

It was in a perfect location not too far from the motorway. Beautifully presented, lovely decor and a modern. It was on a busy road but didn’t affect us at all.

The only negative was the shower, it wasn’t very powerful but it was manageable so didn’t affect the ratings of this wonderful guest house.

I was only here one night but I could see the hosts had put a lot of thought into making it a great place to stay. The room had all sorts of nice little extras I wasn't expecting. There was a foot spa, a dressing gown and a hairdryer, for example. Breakfast was great. Parking was straightforward, and it was a very short walk into the town.

Melanie was an excellent host and very accommodating. Couldn’t do enough for us. Room was very well appointed, with lots of nice touches. Melanie also provided safe storage for our bikes :)

The only downside was a bit of traffic noise but there were even earplugs plugs provided in the rooms anyway.

Lovely property, nicely appointed rooms. Very clean. Delicious breakfast. I stayed at Cartref 8 years ago and loved it so when I knew I was coming back to Carlisle, I was happy to see it was still available for stays. The quality is as good as I remember!

Only downside is traffic noise -old house on a busy road so not surprising -but earplugs were provided!

The property was beautifully decorated, smelt lovely, and had so many extra luxuries such as little bags of sweets, hot chocolate and marshmallows tied in a bag and a bow, foot bath for tired feet and many other extra bits which made it feel luxurious. I had the best night sleep for a while. The breakfast was also so tasty with lovely fresh, homemade food and such lovely choices. I had the cooked breakfast which was tasty and I saw someone else having the stacked pancakes and fresh fruit which looked amazing. Totally recommend Cartref for your stay in Carlisle

Was a great place to meet as we are a long distance from each other. Easy to get to from the station. Even though I am no veteran of staying in guest houses this one seemed to have everything you would want and hopefully will have a reason to come back again.

There was a warm welcome to a lovely, spotless guest house. Room was spacious and had many extras to ensure comfort. It was in a great location for all amenities.

The guesthouse felt more like a home from home. Lots of thought gone into little extras in the room. Dogs felt very at home. Breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely warm room.

Cartref was beautifully decorated throughout with a lovely welcoming and cosy vibe. My room was very comfortable and had some really nice person touches to make the stay extra cosy! This was an ideal location and the host was also very welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed. Thank you for a lovely stay!

I had a really lovely stay at this B&B. The room was spotless and had a cosy, homely feel that made it easy to settle in. The owners were fantastic with their communication and always quick to respond. The location was spot on too, close to attractions, restaurants, and bars just a short walk away. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay
