Unfortunately, the rooms were very poorly soundproofed. We could clearly hear other guests talking through the walls, and the noise from the plumbing was quite loud whenever people in nearby rooms used the shower or running water.

Reviewed Aug 7, 2026The room was charming, clean and comfy. The check in area is small and very quaint. It is also where the continental breakfast is set up. They have a lovely garden behind the inn. It is enchanting and peaceful. The proprietor was a lovely, friendly woman, who made our stay so comfortable and pleasant. The inn is only a block or so down from the main street on a nice and quiet location. We loved our visit and would definitely recommend this in for your visit to Niagara on the lake.

We were disappointed that the garden was not lit up and the waterfall had been turned off fairly early in the evening, we had been looking forward to sitting out there enjoying a glass of wine after supper. The a/c is controlled centrally, our room was quite stuffy during the night, the a/c needs to be on a little stronger, you can always put on a blanket if you are cold but there is nothing you can do if you are sticky and uncomfortable.

The grounds were clean and being decorated for the holiday season. I will definitely go back to the Canterbury Inn and I have already recommended it to a few of my friends. This time when I go back, it will be in the summer so I can see how beautiful the gardens are on the property.
