This hotel exceeded my expectations. Really, we were staying there for 2 nights at the end of our vacation because it was closer to the airport. I had no idea how exceptional and special this place was. I can't say enough. At check-in was given champagne, and the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The spa was great with the indoor pool and Turkish shower. The infinity pool on the roof with hot tub and bar. We also mentioned at check-in that it was our anniversary - champagne and chocolates awaited us in our room. It was so thoughtful! I want to come back, just to stay at this hotel again!

Had a fantastic time! The room was spotless and comfortable, the staff was exceptionally welcoming, and the location made getting around super easy. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel and staff are amazing. Very nice decorated and good location. Love the breakfast. A lot of attention for detail.

If I need to mention one point for improvement it was the airco in the gym. Nothing else.

Great Location and easily accessible. The staff were amazing, very welcoming and super professional. It is a 10 minutes walk to the marina and less than an hour drive to most attraction. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Cet hôtel est parfaitement situé pour visiter la ville, puis prendre une voiture de location et se promener. Personnel très sympathique et accueillant. Chambres agréables. Piscine avec vue magnifique. Petit-déjeuner dans une cour agréable, bien garni et bon. Pris un dîner sur place: excellent! Idéal pour un séjour en couple d'une semaine.

Well where do I start this is the best hotel and holiday we have ever had in Europe. The hotel was so central but away from the crowds- food my goodness was amazing and so well presented. We stayed B&B but had really amazing coffee, service and a choice of buffet or made to order- I love an omelette and these have been the best. All the team are amazing and so friendly and helpful. All in all one of our best experiences- The island is gorgeous and so much to see- Will be back.

The location is very central though in a quiet area. The property is a boutique hotel, with internal courtyards, nice layout.

I did not like the service so much. Not very friendly in the morning breakfast and while I booked 6 nights at the last minute, I don’t think the management team made a real effort to accommodate a really nice room, at €260.— per night, you’d expect a bit more frankly speaking. While I was impressed the 1st night, I was pretty much disappointed the last 6. 7 nights and almost €2k, you’d really expect more service.

Perfectly located near the centre of town but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle so it is not noisy through the windows this is a wonderful hotel with small-hotel charm and large hotel facilities. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. The restaurant food is excellent. Good buffet and cooked-to-order breakfast. A relaxed welcoming bar, plus rooftop bar. For us it was a great base in the town to get out and about and to go out for evening meals.

Such a perfect time at Castanheiro hotel. Near to all major sites yet just far away from noise of main town area. Room was very clean and spacious. Staff were outstanding. Lovely roof top pool and bar. Breakfast buffet had an enormous amount to choose from with extra special omelettes or scrambled eggs at no extra cost. Although it wasn’t cheap, we could not fault it in any way.

We loved everything - the location, the welcome champagne, the rooftop pool and hot tub that stayed open until midnight where you could enjoy the backdrop of the night city, the history of the hotel, the large yet cozy room and of course the most delicious breakfast! One of our best stays during our 2 week trip

We love staying at Castanheiro whenever we come to Funchal. The location is perfect, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and an excellent base for exploring the city.

Отличный очень уютный внутри отель с удобным расположением. Пешком очень быстро можно добраться в любую точку города. Персонал приветливый и внимательный, на территории есть терраса, СПА и бассейн на крыше. По вечерам бывает живая музыка или какие-то концерты с очень талантливыми артистами, было приятно выпить коктейль вечером и насладиться атмосферой. Завтраки проходят в уютном внутреннем дворике с цветами и обслуживанием, как в ресторане, но в тоже время есть и шведский стол. Нам достался просторный номер на 3 этаже и никакого шума с улицы мы не слышали, было тихо. Кровати и подушки тоже были удобными. Я рада, что мы остановились в этом отеле, это точно дополнило наш отдых!

Двери в номерах достаточно громко закрываются, слышно когда люди начинают идти на завтрак с 7:30 утра, но нам это не мешало потому что мы очень уставали и спали не смотря ни на что и тоже часто просыпались рано на завтрак.

Excellent location in the middle of Funchal's old town. Close to just about everything. Friendly and professional staff. Nice rooms. We even managed to catch a concert in the hotel courtyard from our balcony.

We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Hotel Castanheiro. The building has a beautiful history and it is well located. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and had everything we needed. We ate breakfast every morning and dinner, a couple of nights, at Tipografia restaurant and enjoyed the delicious selections! The staff, however, were the most important part of our great experience! Thank you, everyone!!

This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. The mix of history, design and architecture round each corner is fabulous . Too many staff to pick out the best. They are all amazing and work very hard to please their guest. If you’re reading this review with a view to going….. don’t hesitate!

Vriendelijk personeel, iedere avond live muziek, goed restaurant en kwalitatief hoogstaande service. De Spa was een uiterst aangename extra.

Very welcoming from the start. The staff are great, especially Diogo on reception. Very helpful and polite, offered lots of useful recommendations and a welcome drink. There was an issue with the booking (I accidentally booked 1 person in the room rather than 2 but wasn't blamed for this and it was sorted quickly and professionally). Excellent breakfast, lots of options at the buffet, also can be made to order not just the buffer. Beds are very comfortable and bathrooms are nice. We had a room where the balcony had sun from the morning. Even the staff at breakfast are fantastic and speak very good English. There are more older guests, we were one of the few couples in our 20s that we could see, but that is expected given the hotel is a bit more pricy. Would still stay here again. Nice rooftop and location was good.

Coffee could be better barista but filter coffee is available and machine but machine is not great. Also no ironing available for free, comes with extra charge as a service which I've not seen many times, normally can request an iron to the room if you want to do it yourself.

They really made me feel so special for my birthday - upgraded our rooms and had a chocolate cake in the suite! The property was beautiful and so central, rooftop pool and spa amenities were so nice to come back to after a day of hiking

We zijn denk ik op het verkeerde been gezet door de naam Boutique Hotel; het is namelijk best groot (80+ kamers), het ontbijt daardoor heel strak geregisseerd, bepaalde ruimten voldoen aan het beeld van een Boutique Hotel, maar zeker niet alles!

Cannot find fault with this most beautiful hotel in the heart of Funchal down a quiet side street. À la carte restaurant serves delicious food with excellent staff. Housekeeping do an amazing job keeping the hotel spotlessly clean. There are lovely seating areas, a good bar, rooftop pool/terrace with the best views. Our room was lovely with balcony overlooking courtyard, nice comfy bed and lovely bathroom with good size shower, good towels and beautiful toiletries. The spa is worth a visit, it’s a must. The designers have done a wonderful job with this historic hotel.

This is an amazing hotel! I'd recommend it to anyone. It's beautiful, spotless, the breakfast is amazing and the staff on reception were wonderful. Rooms are fantastic. The Iris bar is very nice. However, on night one I was given wonderful service and lots of snacks from q fantastic barman whereas today (17.5.26) there was a new person serving - a bald, miserable, unpleasant man. I asked for a Baileys, he ignored me. He gave me about 5 nuts with my first order! Compared to the previous server it was very disappointing and next time I visit Madeira I'll be avoiding this bar. Quite a frustrating end to my stay in the hotel actually as he really was not very nice.

Lovely boutique hotel in a fabulous location of Funchal. It’s situated down a lovely side road and off a beautiful square and in a quieter part . It is in the centre of everything and easy to to get to the port. We had a large room with a balcony which was really lovely to have. The bathrooms were spotless and not worn looking. The roof top pool was lovely with a great terrace to either sunbathe on or have food and drinks. The higher up terrace has a jacuzzi and more seating area. The staff were lovely and welcomed us with a glass of bubbly. Breakfast was fabulous with a buffet and or cooked breakfast to order. Would definitely recommend!

Quite thin walls which meant you could hear your neighbours quite easily. Lift wasn’t working for 2 days so had to use staff lift which was fine.

Luzes brancas (frias) e o serviço das funcionárias do restaurante (no pequeno almoço) é muito pouco simpático.

Die Lage war sehr gut, fußläufig alles gut erreichbar. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und die Größe komfortabel (Nr 312). Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und lecker. Alles was man an Speisen bestellt hat war sehr gut. Der Service beim Frühstück, im Restaurant und in der Bar war freundlich und aufmerksam. Die Musik am Abend in der Bar war sehr schön.

Wir hatten nachts ein Geräusch wie von einem Generator, dadurch kam es nachts zu Störungen der Mobiltelefone, was sehr laut wurde. Wir haben diese daraufhin abgeschaltet. Der Preis schien uns hinsichtlich des Designs der Zimmer etwas hoch. Zumindest sollte dann die Minibar oder das Wasser im Preis inkludiert sein. Parkplätze sind vorhanden, sollten bei dem momentanen Zustand aber eher kostenfrei sein, da es schon ein bisschen Geschick beim Einparken erfordert.

Das Haus liegt in grandioser Lage mitten in der Stadt (vor allem großartig von Pool und Hottub auf dem Dach). Wir erhielten ein "Zimmer" (Nr. 215), das ein eigenes kleines Haus mit zwei Stockwerken war. Da ich während des Aufenthalts Geburtstag hatte, überraschte mich das Management mit einer Torte auf dem Zimmer - DANKE dafür 😋 ! Auch zu Ostern gab es eine Aufmerksamkeit. Das Frühstück war umfangreich, abwechslungsreich und mit frisch zubereiteten Eiergerichten ergänzbar - wunderbar und köstlich.

Der Umweltschutz wird noch nicht sehr groß geschrieben : So wurden alle Handtücher und Badetücher JEDEN Tag gewechselt, egal wo und wie man sie hinlegte. Beim Frühstück gab es Einiges in Einwegverpackung, etc. Umweltschutz dürfte aber allgemein auf Madeira noch einigen Nachholbedarf haben - leider.

Charming hotel with excellent, friendly & effective staff in all depts. Right in the centre of old Funchal yet quiet. One of the best restaurants in town for dinner (we didn’t find better) which also provides an excellent breakfast. Can’t fault it!

Ein sehr schön eingerichtetes Hotel mit Geschichte. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und bei allen Fragen hat uns das Personal freundlich unterstützt.

Gleich gegenüber von unserem Zimmer war die Dusche des Nachbarzimmers. Die Dusche war sehr laut und an Schlaf nicht mehr zu denken, wenn der Nachbar um 6 Uhr morgens duschen ging.

Absolument parfait ! Hôtel très bien situé. Chambres et literie très confortables. Petit déjeuner incroyable. Bar rooftop. Piscine panoramique sur le toit (superbe vue), jacuzzi à part (panoramique lui aussi) et nombreux transats. Piscine au -1 (moins grande) et spa (pas essayé). Personnel charmant et fort attentionné. Grand parking.

Par souci de bien faire, le personnel place les hôtes à table au petit-déjeuner, d'où un peu de file. C'est toutefois un détail.

L’emplacement est top et la taille humaine de l’hôtel est appréciable. La piscine et le jacuzzi sont très agréables, le SPA et les massages sont top. La restauration est excellente , petit déjeuner avec un choix infini et très bon. La cuisine du chef est quant à elle exceptionnelle, meilleur restaurant sur tous ceux testés à Funchal avec des prix plus que correct pour la qualité et la saveur des plats, un grand BRAVO ! Le personnel que ce soit à la réception, au service, le SPA ou le ménage sont très compétents et bienveillants. Nous n’irons pas ailleurs lorsque nous reviendrons.

Seul bémol est le 4eme étage pour les chambres. Le roof top accueille la piscine et le jacuzzi. Dès lors, pendant les heures d’ouverture c’est un bruit récurrent de chaises longues, de tables et de chaises qu’on bouge… Nous avons eu la malchance d’une nuit avec beaucoup de vent (limite tempête) qui a aussi bougé toute la nuit les équipements qui n’avaient malheureusement pas été rangés en prévision. Conclusion : nous reviendrons mais surtout pas au 4eme étage.

Однозначно понравилось расположение и приветливость персонала.чисто. На этом всё.

Все остальное идет в минус отелю. И ужасные матрасы с подушками на скрипящем основании. И шумоизоляция номеров. И запахи, идущие из ресторана, и посредственное качество и выбор блюд на завтраке. В общем, все это не дотягивает до четырех звезд точно. Ну а дизайнер — это, конечно, отдельная песня. Дешевые материалы и отсутствие уюта в оформлении номеров. Чего стоит только выбор дизайна для умывальника! Для того чтобы в нем умыться, человеку ростом 180 сантиметров нужно нагнуться буквой Г. Ребенок точно не дотянется до раковины. Общее Соотношение цены и качества неудовлетворительное. Если бы отель назывался не бутик-отелем, а хостелом и стоил в два раза дешевле, то это был бы лучший отель на Мадейре. Но за те деньги, которые он стоит, это очень плохой выбор.

Great hotel, worthy of 5*. Its central locations meant that all areas of lower Funchal were within easy walking distance. Taxi fares to upper tropical and botanical gardens not too expensive either. Lovely room. Very comfortable bed. Very nice breakfast. Evening meals in restaurant also of very good quality. The serving staff were very attentive. especially Anna Carolina who made us feel very welcome. We did not use but did view the Swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sun lounge area on roof (we were too busy doing other things!) but these looked very nice too. All in all, a superb stay. Thank you.

Super hotel in a great location for access to central Funchal, offering delicious cuisine at both breakfast and dinner. However, it was the welcoming, helpful and efficient service of the staff that made this hotel stand our for us. Every member of staff we engaged with - the cleaner of our room, the bar tenders, the waiters and waitresses and the staff on reception - made every effort to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I would like to make a very special mention to Claudia for her kindness and compassion when I turned up at the reception desk in shock with a bad injury to my face after a fall in town. She demonstrated such empathy for me and took the decisive action to call me a taxi to the hospital when I really wasn't in a state to organise anything for myself. On my return to the hotel, Claudia made sure that I had everything I needed to recover and continued to check on me whenever she saw me. Thank you to Claudia for being there for me and my husband when we were in such need and thank you to all the staff for your excellent service throughout our holiday.

Lovely hotel right in the centre of town yet on a quiet street. Well designed and with good facilities inc indoor & outdoor pools, small gym, bar and restaurant. Amazing views from rooftop pool & bar. Room was very comfortable with large bed and balcony. Breakfast had lots of nice options. Would thoroughly recommend.

Lovely hotel in a good location. We were in a junior suite which was spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was plentiful with a lot of choice. The service was fantastic. Nice bar and rooftop bar and pool. Handy for Funchal centre, just a short walk from restaurants and a taxi rank, but is in a quiet spot. Would highly recommend.
