Oni no Sumika

Our stay at Oni no Sumika was truly exceptional. The surroundings are wonderfully quiet and serene, giving the feeling of a secluded, magical hidden gem away from the crowds. ​The accommodations were remarkably spacious and luxurious, and having our own private onsen made the experience deeply relaxing and special. Every detail of the property is thoughtfully designed. Most of all, the staff were extraordinarily polite, warm, and attentive, going above and beyond to assist us with whatever we needed. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful team for their incredible hospitality!

Nothing negative about the stay itself, but an important note for future guests regarding breakfast: the meal is rich, beautifully presented, and made with great care. However, seafood is the main centerpiece. When we requested dietary adjustments, the staff did their absolute best to accommodate us, which we truly appreciated. Still, if you don't eat seafood, your options will be quite limited, so it is just something good to keep in mind in advance.

Shuzenji è una perla in mezzo ai boschi del Giappone e facilmente raggiungibile in treno. Un posto magico e lontano dal caos delle grandi città, in cui ci si ritrova avvolti da un senso di calma e pace impagabile. La struttura è magnifica: stanza, onsen, servizio e staff sono oltre le aspettative. Il costo vale sicuramente l'esperienza che si vive. Veramente un posto magico, e un ringraziamento speciale allo staff che è stato fantastico! Estremamente disponibili, professionali e gentili. Da tornarci sicuramente!

Un lugar mágico, con una decoración que invitaba al relax, todas las comodidades, jardines preciosos (una pena que fuesen solo para ver y no para estar en ellos), un onsen privado de ensueño, todo maravilloso.

Very nice and spacious traditional house. Nice garden and the staff were really amazing. The private onsen was good.

The house had a very wet and moldy smell. There was a carpet on the stairs and my guess is it came from that. Not pleasant at all when trying to sleep. There were other guests that were very loud and screaming but I cant blame the property for that.

唯一、脱衣所に扇風機があれば、更によかったな…っと思います。真夏に家族で行ったので、脱衣所締めると、湯上がりに最後に水を浴びても、とても暑かったです。

This was a truly special and memorable stay. We especially enjoyed the staff, location, gardens, and food. Breakfast was delightful and exciting. It made my teenagers excited to get up every morning! The service was excellent. We loved wearing the yukata provided in the rooms. The inn is a short and charming walk to town. Shuzenji is a very special town and there are endless adventures to have on the Izu.

Dinner was wonderful but very expensive. We had to check out earlier than breakfast was served. It was hard to miss such a special meal. It would have been nice to either have a little to go breakfast or a refund on the meal.

The meals in the dining room are excellent and a very Japanese experience. I recommend eating the meals!!

Nous avons adoré cet endroit : le logement était spacieux et traditionnel. Un décor somptueux, un service très attentionné. Nous sommes venus une nuit pour visiter Shuzenji et ceci était notre toute première expérience dans un Ryokan japonais. Le bain était relaxant, l'endroit magnifique et très joliment entretenu. Le personnel était attentif à toutes nos questions et très aimable. Il y a toujours une ou deux personnes disponibles en réception. L'équipe communique en permanence pour que le service soit impeccable, ce qui est très appréciable. Le petit déjeuner traditionnel japonais était une véritable découverte qui vaut le coup! Toutes les saveurs étaient subtiles et délicates. À nouveau, le service était maximal. Même si certaines saveurs sont inhabituelles pour des personnes venant d'Europe, l'expérience typique vaut vraiment le coup!

We had the luxury suite for a night and it was a dream. We had nothing with us as we booked very spontaneously but we had everything we needed in the suite. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Many shops and restaurants close early and the hotel is a bit far from down town. But there is a taxi service so it's not a problem. Enjoy your stay!

Very well restored old house with good amenities

A bit small but other things made up for that

We stayed in the 2 story villa and had a very nice stay. The villa had everything we needed. It was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable, we slept so hard. The outdoor Onsen was private and very enjoyable. I had the chance to get the Japanese breakfast and it was good. Evenings were quiet. Local area is walkable, the town takes 20 min to walk from one end to the other. Tip: If you don't have a car, take a taxi from Family Mart to the Izu Panoramic park.

Location is on the farther end of town, but not a big deal. The town itself is very different from the big city bustle, so dinner locations seemed limited. Getting around without a car can be challenging, but it can be managed.

The hotel is magical, our house was gorgeous and the private onsen wonderful too. The hotel went over and beyond taking care of our 2 year old. They made an exception accepting him and then welcomed him so nicely and even adapted breakfast for him. The breakfast itself was just gorgeous, the most beautiful and tasty selection of little bites. We would love to go back.

This was our first stay at Ryokan, and it was a divine experience! As soon as you enter premises, you are in the calm oasis surrounded by beautiful japanese garden. Rooms are furnished in traditional way, using new furniture to provide the comfort. We really enjoyed private onsen with hot spring water after all the traveling around Japan. Dressed in yukata, wearing wooden geta we went to the original kaiseki dinner that blew our minds. It was as fresh as it could get, seasonal, delicious and really fulfilling. Breakfast was also in japanese style, and we really loved it! Room also provides minibar stacked with teas, coffeemaker and fridge filled with delicious sodas, tea and water, which is refreshing especially after the onsen.

Beautiful setting in traditional ryokan. The room was huge for 3. The amenities were great. Had a private onsen in our room. The staff does not speak much English but we managed with Google translate. We had breakfast every morning and one dinner. The dinner was pricey but the experience. I would only do one breakfast if I were to stay again. It was beautifully arranged and fresh but got a little tired of fish for breakfast as an American.

The first floor of our villa was smelly, mildewy. There were no hooks for hanging towels in the bathrooms. We had to dump them in baskets which didn’t allow them to dry during the day.

No vegetarian dinner option, even if requested in advance. Staff seemed not as friendly to non-Japanese guests, compared to other ryokans we have stayed in

Everything! From the moment we arrived until the day we checked out, we were completely in love with this place. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, the rooms were spacious and beautifully traditional, and the private onsen was the perfect way to relax. After eight days of exploring Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, it felt like such a special treat. The food was excellent, the location was ideal, and the peaceful, quiet atmosphere made the entire experience even more memorable. We would absolutely stay here again.

No complaints at all - we loved every part of our stay. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The humidity was a bit brutal but we survived!

At a premium pricepoint for a Ryokan, more was expected. The onsen in the room is too small for two people. As the private onsen was the main attraction, this effected our stay. The food, being 25.000 yen per person was not worth it. We had better food at other Ryokans with food included at a much better pricepoint. The servicestaff were lacking in english abilities, which made communication difficult, and lastly, frogs in mating season were very noisy. No earplugs or similar was offered... Nice rooms, but consider to look elsewhere.

Everything! The team were so friendly, went out of their way to be accommodating, and were so helpful. The apartment was fantastic, very spacious, and the private onsen were fabulous, especially the outside one - very peaceful. The food was also exceptional, suce variety of dishes, prepared with care and attention. We had a wonderful time in here and were sad to leave so soon. We will be back!

The property was absolutely fantastic. Having a private onsen in the room made the stay feel very special and relaxing. The nature around the property is beautiful, the villas are very pleasant and comfortable, and the whole atmosphere is incredibly calm and peaceful. The traditional ryokan breakfasts were also amazing — beautifully prepared and a real highlight of the stay! Staff were very helpful too!

The only thing we missed was having some outdoor area on the property where guests could sit and enjoy the surroundings. Also, the price feels a little high.

ריוקאן קטן מקסים, עם חדרים מרווחים מאוד מאוד; מיטה נוחה, נוף לגן יפני פנימי - וגם לנו היה אונסן פרטי בחדר. מקבלים גם ביגוד מסורתי והרבה מאוד תכשירי אמבט. התייחסו אלינו בתשומת לב יתרה, ופינקו אותנו בבקבוק סאקה על חשבונם לכבוד ירח הדבש שלנו.

על אף הכל, המחיר היה אסטרונומי בעבור שתי ארוחות כלולות - ולא אהבנו את האוכל כלל. לא כי לא היה טוב - ניכר שהוכן במקצועיות ובאדיבות; אבל לא התאים לחיך שלנו. לצערי, למרות שהחזרנו מנות מלאות כמעט, לא שאלו אותנו בכלל אם לטעמנו או לא ואם נהנינו או לא... אפילו שביקשנו לבטל הגעה לאחד הערבים - ועלי להדגיש שמעולם לא ציפינו או ביקשנו החזר כספי - פשוט נאמר לנו שאין החזר, ולא טרחו לשאול למה לא נגיע או אם יהיה ניתן לעזור בחלופה כלשהי... לא מה שאצפה ברמת המחיר שנגבית. בנוסף, שימו לב שלא הכי קל להגיע בתחבורה ציבורית; כן יש חניה צמודה לרכב.

Die Unterkunft war traumhaft schön. Das Onsen sauber mit perfekter Temperatur. Das Essen war sehr sehr lecker. Eine von uns ist vegetarisch und die Küche war sehr bemüht und hat sehr leckere vegane Speisen gezaubert. Das Personal und Service hervorragend und ließ nichts zu wünschen über! Wie würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

Parenthèse hors du temps dans le raffinement, la délicatesse et la beauté des lieux. L’accueil sincère et chaleureux, le confort des grandes villas réparties autour d’un jardin, le luxe tant dans la literie que dans les produits de soins. Onsen privé dans la villa, la chaleur de l’eau est ajustable. Les repas sont dignes de la gastronomie japonaise, la présentation est soignée et on savoure déjà avec les yeux. Quelques minutes à pieds de l’arrêt de bus de Shuzenji onsen. Petit village calme, le long de la rivière, beau temple, forêt de bambous, fabrique de papier, etc..un séjour dont nous nous souviendrons longtemps. Heureusement que nous avions choisi d’y rester deux nuits pour bien profiter. Chaque dollars dépensé valait la peine.

My room has 2 private onsens. The one inside bathroom would overflow the water to the whole bathroom floor. Pretty messy. The outside one can’t keep the water at the right temperature. You would feel the water is quite cool not hot at all if you are the first person to use it.
