Reviewed Aug 30, 2026We stayed at Hostel Knot in the private room for one night during our Japan trip, to try the onsens in the region. It was a wonderful experience with the fully equipped kitchen. After climbing Mt. Fuji, our clothes were soaked, so I was more than happy, when I realised, that they have a big coin operated washing machine and drier too. We sleeped like babies on their futon beds. The Staff were really kind, and even made us a reservation for a wonderful dining too. I highly recommend them. ❤️
There is a traditional japanese bath which is half shower half bathtub. It wasn't bad or anything, just keep in mind, that it can be difficult to get in, if you have join problems.

Reviewed Aug 27, 2026The staff is very welcoming, there are a lot of common areas which are stocked well. The staff provided a lot of information and advice on sights to see, restaurant, etc. The very old school onsen next door is convenient to wind down each evening.

Reviewed Aug 26, 2026Hostel Knot is an extremely nice and cozy stay in shuzenji onsen. I immediately felt at home. The staff was very helpful and kind. It's a place that makes you wan't to come again. Everything in town is within 20 minutes on foot and I can really recommend the soba restaurant right next door! All in all a great place to stay if you enjoy a calm atmosphere and want to experience the different onsens in town.
Nothing about the hostel itself. Since it is more rural japan, most stores and places aren't open past 5pm. The town feels very empty at night and it's a bit difficult to get around the izu peninsula from here if you don't have a car and are planning on using shuzenji onsen as a base.

Reviewed Aug 13, 2026Staying at a hostel was a first for our family of 5 (kids 7, 10 and 13), so I was a little nervous about whether it would suit us. But it turned out to be such a great experience. We reserved the dorm (ususally the female only dorm) for our private stay so the room was lockable and just for us, with 6 individual beds, a mirror, small table and chair. The room looked so cool, so I had kept it a secret from my kids and they were so happy when they saw it - all going to their individual dens straight away to chill out! We shared the toilets, shower and kitchen with one other mixed dorm room and a private double room. Everyone there was very respectful and quiet so the stay was very comfortable and peaceful. The location was perfect, right in the middle of town, and there was parking available for a small additional charge. Staff helped us to make a dinner reservation and it was a great choice. They also gave us a map with all the things to do and places to eat in the area which was very helpful. There is also an onsen next door that guests can use for free. The second evening we made some food at the hostel and spend time in the communal areas. We ended up talking to many of the other guests from all over the world, sharing drinks and stories, and having a lovely and memorable evening! Hostel Knot is a great choice for a stay in Shuzenji!
I liked everything and it all exceeded my expectations. However I would probably not recommend staying here with younger children. Being a small place with a lot of shared spaces I was, quite rightly, often reminding my children to be quiet and respectful. They were old enough to understand this but I would have found it a bit stressful if I had brought them when they were younger!

Seulement deux lavabos pour tous les clients de l’établissement. Les serviettes ne sont pas fournies ce qui nous a paru étonnant pour ce type d’établissement et le prix. Vous pouvez tout de même en louer à l’accueil.

Attention : pour ceux qui n'ont pas l'habitude, les futons peuvent être un peu durs. Cela ne nous a pas dérangés, mais soyez en prévenus !

Reviewed Mar 25, 2026Beautiful and quiet location, worthy to give it a couple of nights to really settle in, experience mountain life, enjoy nice walks in the nature around. Great traditional restaurant and teahouse options. Give time to interact with the locals who run their business here, great to slow down. I found authentic and very nice people, creative and who promote tradition in this area. I loved every detail in the hostel, the mountain style, the jackets and the free authentic onsen. The staff was very helpful, kind and nice, made me feel at home. Thanks a lot for all your tips and the good talks! If you want to do more and feel like exploring, you can take the bus to Shuzenji city, great real and local options for restaurants, local shopping mall...only for adventure travelers ;) and then with the train, you can go to Mishima for example, is a nice big city to experience real japanese life, restaurants and the beautiful Shrine. Bonus, you can see Fuji san from the train If the day is clear!
I enjoyed everything here.

Reviewed Mar 15, 2026オーナーと店員さんの対応が とても親切です。 夕食・朝食はありませんが、 冷蔵庫・キッチンは自由に 使えるので、宿内はフリーで 自分以外とお宿に迷惑を掛け なければOKというのが良い。 あと、帰りに必ずオーナー からのメッセージが貰える！ 涙チョチョ切れます(^-^)
寝室に換気扇がありますが、 その部屋自体に換気扇がなく 男部屋なので、自分含めて 臭いが少し気になりました。 酔っぱらったら分からない 程度ですが(^-^;

Only minor things but there was a bit of mould in the bathroom and the curtains in the single room didn't do much to keep out any light

De futonbedden waren veel dunner als andere locaties die we gehad hebben. Hierdoor had ik best veel last van mijn rug en schouders na 2 nachten, dat is echt het enigste minpunt.

Reviewed Feb 13, 2026Staff were extremely nice and helpful, providing information and recommendations with a map. the place itself is beautiful - a traditional yet very modern design, very clean with a homey feel. The dorms themselves were awesome - great privacy (which is so great at hostels), great size, clean, comfortable, with enough space to put your stuff. The location is also great, located in the center of the village, near all the things to see at shuzenji. Also, the hostel has it's own onsen, which you get a ticket to enter included in the price! Amazing in my opinion. Also, out of all the hostels I've been to, this is probably the most organized one. For the price you pay - you get way more than you expect.

ほぼドミトリーであるホステルの中の個室でした。快適ではありましたが、部屋内が不潔でした。一番目立ったのは、髪の毛が多数落ちていたこと。掃除をしていないようで、ほこりっぽい部屋でした。開業して間もないのだと思いますが。畳は新しいものを敷いてあるようでしたが、畳の扱いをご存じではないようで、一度畳のい草が湿気を吸ったようで、かびが生えて乾燥していてその部分が色が濃くなっていました。 また、１８時以降はレイトチェックインなどというものになる事が全く気付くことができませんでした。どこにそのような説明があったのでしょうか。ホステルに入るまでに並々ならぬ時間を要しました。 宿泊日前日にチェックインを19時に変更したのですが、システム上変更できるのなら、注意点を表示できるようにしてくれないと分かりません。 18時以降はホステルの方とはメールのみしかやり取りができません。18時以降にホステルの電話番号にかけたら留守電で、正月の対応時間について話していました。

Reviewed Dec 28, 2025这里有几乎我喜欢的关于日本青旅的一切（差了个庭院哈哈哈）。会说英文的开朗员工，干净整洁的房间，自助的厨房和乐于交流的旅客，青旅的游玩攻略还有咖啡壶！甚至有免费温泉，但是我们选择了另一个露天的收费温泉。
我都很满意。

Reviewed Dec 15, 2025Accueil au top à l'arrivée au moment du check-in. Les parties communes sont très agréables et nous avons pu discuter facilement avec un autre voyageur sur place, on ressent la bonne ambiance des lieux. La situation centrale est vraiment idéale dans le village, et c'est un gros plus d'avoir une place de parking réservable.
La chambre reste petite mais ce qui est logique pour ce type d'hébergement. en revanche, les futons étaient vraiment très très minces malgré une double couche, on sentait les tatamis, ce qui a généré un petit mal de dos le lendemain matin. L'isolation reste sommaire également.

Reviewed Dec 13, 2025非常非常宽敞，而且还特别干净！前台接待人员特别温柔，还给我推荐了一个附近老爷爷开的店，不但晚餐的烧鸟很好吃，啤酒很好喝，炒菜也很好吃，第二天这个店里早晨7:00就有早餐，非常感谢，睡得非常舒服

Reviewed Dec 8, 2025This is a fabulous little hostel. I've stayed in many all over Japan and this has been my best so far. Such a warm welcome with lots of great information regarding the local area. Recommendations and maps for sights, restaurants and Onsen. We were a family so split over the mixed and female rooms. All of us thought the capsules were exceptionally clean and comfortable with good bedding. They all had good lighting, plug sockets and a towel and bag for use at the onsen. There was a free onsen next door or other discounted options in the town. Between us we used both and they were great. Peaceful location but in easy walking distance to all the sights and restaurants/bars. Sweet little touches like a thank you card on departure. We loved it here, and in Shuzenji, will definitely be back.
