Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Lovely hotel with wonderful rooms. Some great sea views, attention to detail with decor. If we were being really picky the bathroom would benefit from under floor heating but as I said this is a luxury. Very reasonable room rates too. The staff were fantastic, very accommodating and helpful. They arranged for a birthday cake to be left in the room for the birthday guest. They organised taxis for our guests and sorted a minor issue with parking. Breakfast is very good, eggs cooked to order and lots of choice.
Stunning hotel would highly recommend great location staff fantastic recently renovated to high standerd will definitely being coming back
Great hotel for a visit to Folkestone. Located right on sea front but close to town centre. Very friendly staff. We booked a dog friendly room and we were pleasantly surprised to find dog bowls and a bed. Good move. The hotel decor looked like it was recently modernised and our bathroom was super. We had breakfast there, fabulous choice, delicious food and great service. There was also a smart restaurant but we ate out to meet friends. We would return there on our next visit. Beware the many staircases and lifts! Easy to get disoriented whilst moving between floors.
Had a brilliant stay here with friends. Hotel is situated in a lovely position overlooking the sea and a short walk to town. Room was lovely, spotlessly clean, with lovely bedding and towels. Good hospitality tray and toiletries. Excellent food and drink in the restaurant. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Such a lovely atmosphere throughout.
The hotel looked like it had been recently redecorated and it was beautiful. Everything was clean and modern. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to give us advice on a couple of questions we asked. We had a sea view and even though the weather was bad, the view was brilliant. It’s a good location for seafront, shops and restaurants. The breakfast was very good quality, local produce and plenty of choice. The restaurant manager was a great character and we had great service. The bar area was cosy. I will definitely be going back. It would be great for families too.
Yes I'll go again. Marco Pierre White restaurant, got to give top marks, lovely venue and good service and exceptional lunch.
We spent a very happy luxurious and indulgent Christmas at the Voco for three nights from Christmas Eve in the Queen Suite and could not have hoped for more. A beautiful hotel and room, delightful food both in the restaurant and bar. Busy, busy, busy but an outstanding commitment and effort from a great team. Attentive, professional and responsive throughout. A special call out for Sam in the bar. Nothing was too much trouble. Calm, efficient and a great job ensuring everyone was taken care of. As Diamond Elite we know our IHG Hotels and this hotel excels.
We like VOCO group and that was the reason we chose Clifton VOCO for our Christmas get away. No luck this time however. Disaster in the shape of blackout struck twice during our two days stay. Yes, these things happen, but what should not happen is behaviour of the personal. After 2 hours drive we checked in and were told to wait in a cold reception area for the manager to take us to our room as room keys were not operational due to blackout. After some time we had to remind we were still waiting. At least the receptionist had the presence of mind to change our room so we could use the one lift which was still working and took us to the room. Could we have been offered a cup of tea whilst waiting in these stressful circumstances? Fortunately the black out lasted for about an hour. The worst was yet to come. After having an evening meal in a beautiful Function room we came back in our room before 9 pm to catch up with the day's news and... alas, another blackout. This one lasted till 11.30 pm. Nobody could advise for how long the blackout would last. But at least JN OUR REQUEST we were given some battery operated tiny table lamps. Function room. We arrived at 6 pm as advised and were one of the first. On our request to locate us on a different table we got categorical - NO. And we were the last to get our starters - some confusion about table numbers - that was an explanation... My husband ordered a sweet sherry for me and it was only when he paid for the drink we noticed I had been given a Cherry Herring Liqueur instead. Same price but surely the staff should know the difference. The one redeeming feature of the meal was the excellent entertainment by the musician who had a huge repertoire played in an easy and relaxing style. The staff of the hotel definitely was under stress from quests' complaints and in panic, nobody knew what to do, though they could have organized people affected to come to Function room for a cup of tea - by that time it was half empty and even the pianist was still there. Yes, it is all about the staff, unfortunately. On Boxing day the receptionist knew nothing about famous Boxing day Swim - had to find information in a computer, and was very slow to print a map for us which we had asked the evening before. Anyway, disasters happen, but should some form of special training be given to not very experienced members. The compensation offered goes a long way to soften the blow and is appreciated.
We where at the VOCO Clifton Hotel Folkestone for 3 day Christmas break plus 3 additional days. The hotel after its refurbishment is something to behold. The staff go out of their way to make your stay everything you wanted. Despite the utility problems on Christmas Day lunch the staff worked exceptionally hard to look after all guests, the food was everything you would expect of a Christmas Lunch. All guests who had the patience to recognise the Hotel had a problem, not of their making, were served the food they had ordered. My wife said it was the best Christmas lunch she had had. All the staff without exception are very attentive to guests, the Hotel is very clean and comfortable. It is at 5 star standard. As are the Staff. We would recommend the VOCO Clifton Hotel to any one. To sum up - simply the best.
We booked a Christmas package deal, it was brilliant. We couldn’t fault anything during our stay, location ideal, room spotless, food delicious and the staff were excellent. Would definitely stay again.
We had a family Christmas lunch which was excellent in quality and value and was well received by all the family. My wife and I have had several bar meals before a show at the Leas Cliff Hall and again all excellent. We are also booked to stay on New Year eve.
We had our Christmas party at The Clifton last weekend, in the newly refurbished function room and bar. Lovely welcome drink in the bar 🍸 then through to dinner, service exceeded my expectations and our group of 30 were looked after very well. The food was delicious, turkey dinners and steaks. The tables were very festive we all had a very merry time. Thanks
My husband and I have just spent 3 wonderful days at this hotel. Our room was large and had a sea view, which we didn’t expect! the bed was comfy and the pillows were the best I have slept on! The breakfast was incredible, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, and a full English breakfast if you wanted it, everything was hot and fresh. All the staff were very helpful and always had a smile. This review does not do the hotel justice, it is without doubt the best we have stayed in.
Was really looking forward to this. First of all I could not get in. I use a walking stick as I have bad knees. The steps into the Hotel were large and steep. Had to use the ramp which was steeper than Everest. Good job I had friends with me. Then we were in a nice enough room but a bit cold. Good to see a lot if effort was put in to see we all got the correct meals. The food was actually delicious but it was served on cold plates so went cold quickly. Hot gravy came when meal was finished. Long wait between courses. The waitresses were pleasant and efficient but needed 1 more to cope with our party. We knew tea/coffee wa extra but no-one came round to ask for our order Will not be back in a hurry
This hotel is in a repurposed Victorian building that is very stylish. The room we were in was large with lots of hot water. We had a view that extended to France! The breakfast was exceptional with many choices. Overall the staff were very pleasant and the hotel has a small but efficient lift. Paid parking is out the front of the hotel. Highly recommended.
Wow what an extraordinary five star experience at this hotel. My wife and I have been visiting Folkestone UK for over 24 years. We've stayed at various properties including a penthouse at the grand. Absolutely nothing compares to VOCO The Clifton Hotel. The owners have invested a lot of £ to upgrade this hotel. It worked. What a fabulous five star hotel they have created, absolutely nothing in Folkestone Dover or Maidstone comes even close. You'd have to go to London to find an IHG hotel that's remotely comparable. From the senior management ( who are hands on ) to the staff they are polite, professional , welcoming and no issue is ever a problem. We stayed 16 days in their queen suite, believe me after 60 years in hospitality at a senior level if there was an issue we would have moved. If you can get a reservation take it , I guarantee this hotel will become extremely popular.
For the price and location I was actually expecting a bit of a tired hotel. But my word from the moment you come in to the lovely Christmas tree and decorations you can tell that this must have had a very recent refurb. It’s all so gorgeous. The location is top. The breakfast excellent. The room lovely. Water in fridge. Good coffee in rooms. I’m definitely coming back. In no time this will be up to a 4-5 star on TripAdvisor. Which is what it deserves.
We stayed for two nights in the voco Clifton hotel in Folkestone, and the hotel is really lovely. Our bedroom and bathroom were stunning, very clean. We had an evening meal in the restaurant, and it was delicious, and the waitress, Leisa I think, was very nice. I knocked one star off my review due to the staff in the restaurant in the mornings at breakfast. Crikey, they are not friendly or welcoming at all, and I even saw a waitress clearly roll her eyes impatiently. The male receptionist on Friday evening (17th) was pleasant. The female receptionist this morning (Sunday 19th) just did her job. The bedroom, cleanliness, meals, location, are excellent.
Staff were polite and welcoming. Unfortunately our room was double booked due to a large party, I paid for a premium king but was downgraded. Breakfast was offered as compensation, which we accepted because we were not told until we arrived to check in and it was very busy so we didn’t kick up a fuss. I do feel we were at a loss, as it was very overpriced for an average buffet and we wouldn’t have chosen this. Hotel was clean, bar was stocked.
An elegant hotel just an easy stroll away from the town centre. Breakfasts were superb with some tasty extras you don't find in other hotels, such as smoothies. Hospitality veteran Tony manages the restaurant really efficiently. My room had a scenic sea view and one individual touch I appreciated was the supply of Taylors of Harrogate coffee bags, which make a much nicer cuppa than most hotel room coffee sachets usually available. The outdoor dining area is a glorious sun trap and a decent bar snacks menu is available. Parking permits are available for guests, though a bit pricey.
Really enjoyable stay for our 26th wedding anniversary. Hotel has been recently completely refurbished and every surface is clean as a whistle. Super room with Nespresso coffee machine and marge brand new TV and huge bathroom Breakfast was way about average. I would call this a 5 star experince rather than 4 star.
This hotel deserves 5 star reviews. It's newly refurbished, fully, and the fittings are all top quality. Shower in our bathroom was huge and rainhead shower was powerful. It has a lift to all floors for disabled patrons. It has 2 USB ports on each side of the bed which is extremely rare for hotels and very useful if you have forgotten your charger. My mobile charged from 25% to 100% in the time I had breakfast. Breakfast is definitely a cut above the standard you would expect from a hotel of this type. Lots of tasty extras and fruit juices were nice. Sausages higher quality that normal. It stay in hotels at least 30 nights per year. Nepresso Coffee in the room, lots of complementary water still and sparking in recycleable class bottles. Fantastic large smart TV you can connect to YouTube. Grimer/105
Beautiful setting!
Room was lovely, comfortable beds and staff were amazing. Muhammed was extremely helpful, as were all the people manning the desk. Breakfast was great.
Very friendly welcome from Neil and the receptionist ( Natalie ?). We had a lovely large room on the 2nd floor with views of the sea from the large bay window. Very big and very comfy bed,you could sit up and watch the birds and squirrels in the gardens opposite ! A nice seating area in the bay window , desk ,chair ,fridge with bottled water , safe and large TV, what more could you want ? The shower room was large with lovely fluffy towels ,good quality toiletries ,piping hot water and a large heated towel rail. Both rooms were immaculately clean as was the whole hotel. We had breakfast each morning which offered a good selection of cold and hot food ,the staff were very attentive and friendly. The lift can take 2 people and various suitcases and despite the hotel being busy we did not have to wait once . The hotel has been tastefully " made over " since our last visit and we did not want to leave. Parking is an issue so thank goodness for my blue badge.
Staff very friendly and helpful, food good, all in all a most enjoyable stay. I've stayed here a good few times, always very good. John Meade.
It was simply excellent in all respects.
Can’t say it was the best hotel I stayed in. The hotel was going under a refurb and lack of sign posts to floors/rooms meant we kept getting lost. Our room had no phone signal and couldn’t connect to the WiFi and the bathroom was very tiny (as someone who is 6ft3 I struggled in the bathroom and shower. Nice location, nice hotel in general, friendly staff but probably wouldn’t stay here again.
Very comfortable room, excellent restaurant, very welcoming, great location
Older Hotel which has been recently renovated. Rooms were very comfortable but would have liked the option of a queen bed. Only downside was air conditioning was a bit on the warm side even with the temperature turned down. We were able to open the window to let fresh air in. No onsite parking but there is street parking just outside and also a carpark just around the corner. Restaurant food was very good and the staff were excellent, very professional.
We stayed for 4 nights. Weather was very inclement, but we put our coats on and went to many places including Dover and Canterbury. The hotel was lovely and clean as was our room. Nothing was too much for the staff who were very pleasant and helpful. Hotel right on seafront is was lovely
Booked a 'cosy' room and it was a little on the snug side, but fine for one night. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit disappointing and as I checked out at 5am, I didn't have breakfast. Hotel is clean, modern and nicely located on the sea front but the reason for my low score: the service generally was woefully slow!
Great staff. M P White's restaurant served delicious food, and I considered it fairly priced. Bedroom was spacious & the view was expansive
Stayed here previously and staff happy to accommodate anything that is needed
Had such a great time at Voco! The rooms were very comfortable & the views were the cherry on top! All the staff my sister and I encountered were extremely friendly and professional, some went over and above to make my birthday special with a scrumptious birthday treat and warm wishes, we will definitely be returning to this brilliant hotel found in the heart of Folkestone ♥️ 10/10!!!
Was just an over night stay, but was very comfortable, very clean, friendly efficient staff. Lovely location. Will definitely stay again
Lovely hotel, fabulous rooms, friendly check in staff and complimentary biscuits on arrival. Parking not brilliant - managed to get the last spot. Not sure where else we would have gone. Lift a bit weird - we used the stairs.
Lovely seating area outside. Recently refurbished bathroom was very nice. Air conditioning in the room was fab .
unable to accommodate us in the room we had booked, but given 2 single rooms and comp breakfast and drinks, They did the best they could under the circumstances. Unfortunately our rooms were on the same floor but quite a way from one another, but for the one-night stay, it's no real problem
Excellent hotel
The hotels.com website reverted the date to the same day, rather than my wedding anniversary. So, we never made ut to the hotel. Noticed the problem on confirmation email, but they refused to change the date without further payment. Might try the hotel again, wont be using hotels.com.
Was a lovely stay.
We stayed in this hotel floor at third floor that you can see the sea view a little bit I’m glad that it has 2 beds and it was comfortable to sleep, Thanks for the room it was excellent, We can’t wait to come back here again to stay.
A massive thank you to the above mentioned staff members, who went above and beyond their call of duty to assist my son and I - Alex was exceptionally hospitable at check-in, extremely kind and very accommodating and Formilla, who was all smiles and extremely helpful in assisting with my request for cream cheese, this very kind and beautiful lady went down to the kitchen twice to assist us, however, her colleague was extremely rude, gave me no acknowledgement and abruptly said "No", with no eye contact when I asked her a question - as a Guest Relations Manager for a very highly reputable hotel brand in Central London, as well as having dedicated over 20 years to the IHG brand as a former employee, I was highly disappointed as well as very disheartened with her conduct. All in all, a fine hotel very well located to shops, restaurants and the pretty beach. The lovely cake plate was a lovely gesture and a lovely surprise when we returned in the evening. Once again, thank you to Alex, Formilla and the lovely gentlemen we first met upon arrival at the hotel, who prioritised our room - they are great ambassadors for the IHG brand. We look forward to returning soon 🙂
Property is nice. Parking is a problem to find and the inroom wifi and TV services was awful (did not work)
Comfy bed and very clean room. This hotel DOES NOT have in site parking. It’s on the road which should be a lot clearer when looking for secure parking for a car full of holiday gear
Lovely breakfast with large choice. Comfortable bed. Close to lots of shops. 2 minute walk to car park.
We stayed for six days and the hotel was excellent . Very good breakfast with attentive friendly staff. Room had been renovated . It was clean and had a calming atmoshere. Very good bar area also had quieter spaces near reception. Bed very comfortable . Amazing sea front views from our front facing room. .
Absolutely beautiful and clean. Very spacious and extremely clean.loved the decor and service especially from the cleaning staff.
Lovely hotel, staff very , beautiful rooms the hotel is located right on the front so a nice walk after a long journey. Please remember parking is on a first come first served basis.
We had a wonderful stay at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone! Long scenic walks to the harbour, delicious dining at the Marco Pierre White Chophouse, and the truly exceptional restaurant staff—who also brightened our morning at breakfast—made the experience unforgettable. The ambient bar was a lovely spot to unwind, and a little Costa Coffee bar available. Every member of the hotel team was warm, polite, and welcoming. They made us feel so looked after. We’ll definitely be back!
We loved the location of the Voco, and the lobby and lounge area are gorgeous. The team in the downstairs lounge/restaurant/coffee bar was excellent! They were so helpful and kind. The team at the front desk seemed a bit frazzled during our stay; they were mostly helpful, but a few seemed a bit put-off in assisting us. Our room was lovely - we had a 4th-floor ocean-view king. We had a table by the window but no chairs. Housekeeping was a bit remiss - towels taken when they were hung up to reuse, not enough towels left, water bottles not refilled. Those are smaller details and we worked them out. Folkestone is a treasure to visit, and it's a great spot to explore, as well as to travel to other towns in the nearby area, such as Dover, Canterbury, and Rye. We'd stay here again.
Had a really pleasant last minute stay. An issue with my booking was quickly sorted out. Breakfast was good. Service was excellent.
A very good hotel with super rooms (we had 112, which looks out to the front and you can see the sea), very good staff (especially the manager at breakfast) and a great location on the Leas. Only stayed for one night but very comfortable and would recommend
Great location Friendly staff, Cozy, comfortable and clean rooms Excellent food at breakfast and dinner was amazing as well! Fully renovated and functional rooms with electricity plugs and usb ports by the bedside tables! Coffee and tea facilities are available in the room and we especially loved the filter coffee sachets! If only the breakfast wouldn't finish by 09:30 Also, slippers weren't available, which is a big miss for a hotel of this class. We took a day trip to the nearby village Rye, and we visited the White Cliffs of Dover thanks to the hotel's convenient location! Great addition to IHG! Would recommend it to others!
The Clifton Hotel is in a lovely position on the Folkestone Leas looking out towards the Channel. It is within walking distance of shops and the Leas itself is quiet with floral beds, plenty of seats, and one can walk down to the sea. and along to the harbour. Such a comfortable hotel with plenty of lounge space, including a tea/cake counter and bar. Bar meals are served. The restaurant has a good reputation but I cannot vouch for meals aside from the breakfast, which is excellent. Buffet service but fresh coffee/tea served at the table, so no fiddling with awkward machines. The rooms have been renovated and have air- conditioning (but one can still open a wndow). Very comfortable, carpeted, with soft cushioned chairs, tea/coffee making, and refrigerated cabinet. Large TV. Bathrooms spotlessly clean. Friendly attentive staff. One would be pushed to find any fault in this hotel and it is reasonably priced.
We would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Folkestone. The location on the seafront is perfect. This location puts you in walking distance to everything you might visit in Folkestone like restaurants and sights. The staff are generally good starting with the general manager Neil who was unbelievable helpful and truly part of the hotel experience. We enjoyed Nigel in the breakfast room. Sam in the lobby bar was so good with all the customers and we loved seeing him for a daily cup of tea. The parking could be challenging but we figured it out and it worked ok. We would suggest a high floor sea view room to enjoy the hotel’s location. The other rooms were smaller with one small elevator but the old building the hotel is in has a lot of charm. The rooms are modern, updated and clean. We would strongly recommend this hotel.
Hotel refurbished and updated to a very high standard. We were impressed at the cleanliness and eco-awareness at the hotel, together with helpful and attentive staff. This was an all-too-short but very memorable stay.
We know this hotel well and have been staying there for a few times a year as our daughter lives in Folkestone.
Stayed here several years ago when it was a Best Western. Been modernised and much better now. Room was clean, new, spacious and quiet. Wifi worked fine. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was good. Nice selection of steaks.
I booked a stay at Voco Folkestone expecting a peaceful and comfortable break by the coast. What I got instead was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re hoping for any kind of rest, relaxation, or even just a quiet night of sleep, do not stay here. The core issue? Unbearable noise. Loud music thumped through the building well into the night, shaking the floor and making sleep impossible. The volume wasn’t background ambience — it was full-on event-level sound. The noise travelled directly into the guest rooms with no soundproofing whatsoever. This is not what I expected from a hotel charging premium rates and operating under the IHG/Voco brand. And to make matters worse, staff did nothing. I spoke with reception multiple times, and the response was both dismissive and powerless: “It’s just an event.” No effort to move me, no meaningful apology, and absolutely no compensation offered. If Voco Folkestone regularly holds events or allows this kind of noise, then it should be clearly disclosed at the time of booking. Hiding that fact and expecting guests to just tolerate it is misleading and inexcusable. Let’s be clear: a hotel that knowingly subjects guests to high-decibel noise with no warning and no remedy is not meeting the legal or professional standard expected in the UK. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, guests are entitled to receive services with reasonable care and skill. This fell drastically short. I may also report the incident to the local authority, as the level of disturbance arguably qualifies as a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. What’s most disappointing is how preventable this was. Noise complaints are not new in hospitality — good hotels manage events responsibly, soundproof their venues, and support affected guests. Voco Folkestone did none of those things. Instead, I spent a restless night growing increasingly frustrated, and left the hotel more tired than when I arrived. I paid for rest and comfort and received noise, stress, and indifference. I urge anyone considering a stay at this hotel to look elsewhere unless you’re here to party. Voco Folkestone has some serious improvements to make before it can honestly claim to care about guest experience.
Don’t be fooled by the polished lobby — once night falls, this place turns into a full-blown club. Music blasted through my room for hours. No warning, no apology, no options. Staff brushed it off like it’s normal. Maybe it is — which is exactly the problem. If you actually want peace and quiet, book somewhere that remembers it’s a hotel, not an events venue.
I travel often, both for work and leisure, and understand that no hotel stay is perfect. But what I experienced at Voco Folkestone went beyond a minor inconvenience — it was a serious oversight in guest care and property management. The issue was simple: the noise inside the hotel was unbearable. Loud music — not soft ambient sound, but full-volume, bass-heavy music — filled the building from what appeared to be an event downstairs. Unfortunately, that noise didn’t stay in the event space. It travelled up through the floors and into guest rooms, including mine. It wasn’t just disruptive — it was physically uncomfortable. I raised the concern with staff, who were polite but ineffective. They acknowledged the music and confirmed there was a function, but no attempt was made to resolve the issue. I wasn’t offered another room, nor was the volume adjusted. The assumption seemed to be that this was normal and acceptable. As a guest who had paid for peace and privacy, I can assure you — it was not. Hotels are first and foremost meant to offer guests rest. That’s their core promise. When a hotel chooses to prioritise revenue from events over the experience of overnight guests, that promise is broken. And in this case, it was broken quite badly. This isn’t a matter of preference or being overly sensitive. The volume was objectively unreasonable for a hotel setting — something that would raise concern under UK consumer law and possibly constitute a nuisance under environmental health legislation. I plan to explore both avenues. I hope the management at Voco Folkestone reads this and takes it seriously. Because the hotel itself has potential — the building is fine, the location is convenient, and the staff (individually) were not unpleasant. But unless they address the glaring issue of event noise disrupting guest rooms, they will continue to receive feedback like this. Until then, I won’t be returning, and I strongly recommend others reconsider if sleep is a priority for their trip.
We had a really good time. The room was very clean and modern, had everything we needed. The food was delicious and staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location and very close to the beach.
From the time we set foot in the hotel, we were met with a smile and a helpful attitude. The room was very spacious, clean and a beautiful sea view. The food was exceptional, and a wide variety of drinks.
Really good stay in a lovely hotel. Parking is difficult as the paid spaces are first come first served and not just for this hotel so is always busy . Would definately stay again though
Lovely hotel, very smart with friendly greeting on arrival. Lovely and quiet, large room with great sea view, with air conditioning. Added bonus of Marco Pierre White Restaurant in the hotel, serving excellent food and comfy chairs in the bar. Lovely quality breakfast the next morning with garden views. Stress free night away with paid street parking nearby.
stayed 1 night as meeting family for a meal/drinks in hythe, welcome warm and pleasant, smooth check-in,room lovely…esp bathroom, lovely and quiet room location little disappointed the bar was closed at 22.50pm when we got back from our meal, but i would advise e’one to stay at this hotel…cant praise it enough
Booked a day stay (9am-5pm). I arrived at 11am to promptly be told a room would not be ready as they did not have a room available. I was asked to come back at 12pm and told a room was ready but I had to leave by 2:30pm as they had to get the room ready for the guests arriving for the overnight stay. Bear in mind, I was asked to pay full price for this stay. In my very short time in the room, the bathroom light was broken. On top of this, the hotel is refusing to provide a refund. Terrible stay, ruined our day.
Excellent stay. A sea view over to France. (In premium rooms) Breakfast choice and quality outstanding
Newly refurbished excellent rooms even the single one I had was a reasonable size spotlessly clean with a lovely bathroom. Breakfast very good and the staff were helpful and polite
Really impressed with our overnight stay at this lovely hotel. Great location and the hotel itself was super clean. We were in a "cosy" room but it was plenty big enough for us. We didn't eat or drink in the hotel so I can't vouch for the food etc but the place itself was great.
Stayed for 1 night only. For a 3 star hotel i must say it’s run like a five star hotel! On arriving we had a lovely welcome from Alex on reception and the general manager Neil. I had a slight problem with my room being on the 3rd floor due to health reasons. This was quickly rectified by Neil. As a general manager Neil is superb! It is very unusual for a General manager to be around making sure guests and staff are okay. Neil and his staff are very keen that you enjoy your stay. No hiding away in the office for him. The rooms were spotless and very comfy beds and great air con. We ate at Marco Pierre white. The service was excellent, cant say the same about the food unfortunately. Rather bland and tasteless. The bar food looked much better, will eat in there next time. Beautiful hotel with highly trained happy staff. I would say best hotel in Folkestone. Highly recommend to stay there. Keep up the great work.
Had a beautiful stay, easy check in , complimentary biscuits. Rooms extremely clean, bedding brilliantly clean. Long review on their website and very highly recommended.
Loved this
Very comfortable and clean
A tiny bathroom. Hotel is dated. OK for a one-night stay but no longer. Forgot an item of clothing and notified the hotel but a week later, no response.
Super location. Really friendly and helpful staff. Amazing breakfast choices and beautiful restaurant for breakfast. Only negative thing about the hotel was the lift...it was absolutely tiny and quite grubby - not at all in keeping with the reception, bar and restaurant areas.
Greeted with a warm welcome, rooms are nicely decorated, bathrooms modern, everywhere clean, beds & pillows pretty comfy. Only feedback on the rooms is how bright they are in the mornings. We booked two rooms as a family which would have been great to have next to each other, this wasn’t possible, we were however on the same floor. In hindsight I should have called ahead. Breakfast is fantastic and service is top notch! Gluten free options available including gf bread, gf sausages, bacon, eggs, and pretty much anything you like. Items can be prepared especially for you. Nothing was too much trouble and our 3 coeliacs were all really well catered for and happy! Thank you :) Marco Pierre White Steak House in the hotel for dinner is great too. Bar in hotel is well stocked and really good service too. This is a fantastic hotel with really great service and food options, would definitely stay again.
Great location and really big room!!
We made a late booking owing to the weather forecast and chose this hotel because it is close to Folkestone Central station and because it is an IHG hotel. We were really impressed with the hotel and the staff, all of whom were both friendly and professional. The hotel had a regency feel about it and the decor was really impressive. Check in was really smooth and it was nice to be recognised as an IHG member. Our room was on the 4th floor right next to the lift on the garden side. The hotel was very clean and our room was very comfortable. The air conditioning was very beneficial. The bathroom had clearly been modernised to a high standard. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It makes a big difference having a pot of tea instead of queing by a machine. There was a good choice of hot and cold food and the hot food was cooked very well. It was also nice to be asked if everything was OK. Really lovely staff members who clearly took pride in their work. It was lovely to walk along the cliff top after breakfast and the town was only a short walk away. We will most definitely return at a later date.
I was brought up and went to school in Folkestone over 50 years ago now! I lost touch with the town but have been returning over the last few years, and I am really enjoying seeing its renaissance. I remember the Clifton as a guest house with a reasonably good reputation and on more recent return visits to Folkestone my wife, and family, have enjoyed having a drink in the bar, but I had never been tempted to stay there. However, I was aware that renovations were underway, and it is so good to be able to say that the Clifton is now an excellent place to stay. I enjoyed a night in a wonderful room last night looking out over the famous Leas to France. And I must mention Patrick, who checked me in at reception. He is a truly great ambassador for the hotel, and not just because he upgraded me to this lovely room!
Great location, friendly staff, we will come back again
Advertised as a Cosy Double and was as advertised. Nice to get some bottled water in the fridge. Not just tea and coffee. Bed, shower room and view were very nice.. Climate control was confusing and difficult to understand. Not sure why the key card needed to be docked. But overall a good story.
Very good good position and great value breakfast and staff excellent
Nice place.
Completely changed for the better. Lovely, would reccommend. M.Collins
We had a lovely stay. Staff friendly rooms comfy and plenty of choice for breakfast. Easy walk to the harbour and sea front. Will definitely stay again.
Nice hotel - everything was good and as hoped! Would stay here again
Nice hotel but room was very hot and walls very thin. Air con unit didn't work properly and slept very badly.
We have been staying here for a few days for quite a few years. It’s a sentimental journey for me, as I spent the first 8 years of my life in Folkestone during the war, from 1939 - 47. The hotel is beautifully situated, with all rooms giving a sea view. Over the years it has been renovated, and brought up to date. The rooms are warm, welcoming, have clean comfortable beds, and constant hot water. But the staff are its biggest asset! Welcoming, helpful, friendly, and any request is fulfilled if at all possible. The lovely receptionist, Philippa, even ran out to guard a parking space, whilst hubby rushed to get the car! The whole place feels so welcoming, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!
The Clifton Hotel, Folkstone: Staff provided a friendly atmosphere and the facilities are positive. The hotel is in a convenient position to explore the town and cliff walks. I had one night in a single room w/ breakfast, great though coffee needs work, I would probably have tea next time. Rooms are comfortable and suitably quirky in old building. Wandering corridors to get there is always fun.
Very clean and comfortable in general. Room was lovely and the coffee machine was a nice bonus. Restaurant was average considering the price.
We had a lovely stay for my husband birthday. Everything was perfect
We recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, had a less-than-pleasant experience. While the rooms appear stylish in photos, they lack functionality. We booked the "Suite with 2 Princess Beds," and while the beds looked charming, a major issue was the smoke detector placed directly in the middle of the room. Its white and green lights flickered every minute throughout the night, making it nearly impossible to get any restful sleep. The hotel doesn’t have its own parking, only a few public bays outside that are mostly occupied. Hotel do offer permits for £8 per day, but if you move the car and lose space then you have to go find parking elsewhere. The quality of toiletries provided was very poor, so I would strongly recommend bringing your own shampoo, conditioner, and other essentials. The cushions were odd and extremely uncomfortable. Housekeeping was also disappointing. Although someone had made the bed, towels were not replaced and the tea bags and drinking water weren't restocked. To top it off, our water glasses were mysteriously moved into the bathroom, which felt quite unhygienic. On a positive note, the location is good. But given the number of issues we experienced, we won’t be staying here again.
The room was very spacious and perfectly decorated, very clean. The staff were really polite and the location was excellent. Would have preferred breakfast to last a bit longer (finished at 9:30) but we were advised of this on check in.
Lovely hotel, super friendly staff, really comfy bed, nice shower, all perfect! Little walk to Folkestone central, but short walk out the front door down the beach, which was gorgeous.
Excellent location, walkable from the train station. Some trouble checking in & room wasn't as described but was sorted out the next day. Most staff were on the ball and very congenial. Food was excellent, afternoon tea was delicious, highly recommend the tea salon in the main restaurant. Lovely area, very historic and close to shopping and dining for a nice walk.
very ice
Had a brilliant time. The weather was glorious, hotel was beautiful. Had a cosy double and was perfect, even had a sea view! Bed was comfy, shower was excellent Good value fof money. Even left us an anniversary cake in the room. Will definitely come again
