Reviewed Sep 19, 2026Wir haben die Zeit in der River House Lodge sehr genossen. Die Begrüßung und alle Angestellten waren super freundlich und hilfsbereit, die ganze Lodge ist total liebevoll eingerichtet, hat zwei Außenterrassen und eine Feuerstelle mit traumhaftem Blick auf den Crocodile-River, das Essen war hervorragend (man konnte aus zwei Menus auswählen), saubere und ruhige Zimmer, alles in allem ein perfekter Aufenthalt mit wahnsinnig lieben Menschen.
Das Malelane Gate zum Krüger NP liegt nur ca 10 Min Fahrzeit entfernt.

Reviewed Sep 17, 2026L’accueil a été incroyable. Nous avons été reçus avec un jus de fruits et une serviette parfumée. Le personnel était adorable et aux petits soins. L’hôtel est sublime, la vue incroyable sur la rivière et les hippopotames. La chambre est également très belle, nous avons été surclassés avec une bouteille de vin ! Incroyable ! Le dîner servi à table était fabuleux avec entrée, plat et dessert. Rien à redire, nous reviendrons. Merci pour tout

Reviewed Aug 17, 2026The location is perfect for easy access to the Malalane Gate at Kruger. The views from the rooms and lookout deck are amazing. Watching hippo and crocodiles in the river, and elephants and buck come down to the river to drink. The food is tasty and large portions, very affordable. The bar service is very reasonably priced, Rooms are comfy, not overly large, but perfectly suited for a couple. Piping hot water and nice water pressure
Unfortunately the town municipal water pump is adjacent to the premises and had broken during our stay. The municipality had installed a temporary pump to extract water from the river, which resulted in a constant hum of the pump running that detracted from the peace and quite that would normally been experienced. Normally you would not hear the municipal pump.

Muy cerca de la entrada del kruguer de malalane. Y destacar en especial el trato recibido por Johan. Cuando vuelva de nuevo seguro que volveré a este alojamiento

Reviewed Jul 17, 2026What a lovely experience we had staying at the River House Lodge! We were welcomed with a drink and refresher towels and shown around the property. Which was gorgeous to say the least. Location is absolutely superb on the banks of the Crocodile river! We enjoyed game watching, and even got a visit from an elephant a few meters from the fence. Felt like an extension of our Kruger holiday. We will definitely be visiting again!

Reviewed Jul 14, 2026Amazing riverside location with breakfast views of elephants. Easy drive to Malelane gate. Hosts were very friendly and breakfast was good quality. They even lent us a pair of binoculars and a map for our Kruger self-drive! Their "pet" waterbucks were also a highlight of the stay!
Nothing major, but perhaps other travellers would like to know that the pool looks a lot bigger in the photos than it actually is, and dinner options in the area are quite limited (and the hotel itself has a limited set menu that needs to be ordered in advance - so plan accordingly).

Reviewed Jul 5, 2026Nossa experiência no River House foi excepcional. O que mais nos chamou atenção foi como os funcionários foram acolhedores e simpáticos conosco. A comida era excelente, com muitas opções diferentes e deliciosas. Além disso, a vista do deck é ótima. Conseguimos observar vários animais no rio após voltarmos do safári.
Apesar de acharmos o quarto muito aconchegante, sentimos falta de um espaço maior para guardar as malas. Além disso, a escada para as camas de solteiro é muito íngreme, o que pode dificultar o acesso para algumas pessoas.

Reviewed May 5, 2026Die Unterkunft hat durch ihre Lage und den tollen Ausblick auf den Krüger Nationalpark überzeugt. Außerdem war das Personal der Unterkunft super freundlich und sind auf alle Wünsche eingegangen. Planung und Buchung von Safari Fahrten lief absolut ohne Problem mit einem tollen Anbieter.
Besonders ein Tag ohne Safari konnte mit Ausblick auf den Crododile River am Pool genossen werden, denn man hat von hier auch einen fabelhaften Tag um auch ohne Safari die Tiervielfalt des Parks zu genießen.

Reviewed May 1, 2026Wir hatten eine gute Zeit in der River House Lodge. Wir empfehlen die Unterkunft mit guten gewissen weiter. Highlight ist die Nähe zum crocodile river. Hier haben wir Nilpferde, Elefanten, Vögel, Affen und Impalas gesehen. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit. Unsere safaris haben wir auch über die Lodge gebucht und waren sehr zufrieden damit.
Die Renovierung von einigen Zimmern war noch nicht abgeschlossen, sodass es tagsüber Baulärm zu hören war. Das hatte uns aber nicht wirklich gestört.

This property has been completely renovated and redecorated. The works were not complete during our stay, but the part that has been completed is really well done, we loved our rooms. The new pool is beautiful, we spent the afternoon swimming and sun bathing while watching the hippo and elephants at the waters edge. Our evening meal was hearty, homemade and truly South African. Eating over the water is just wonderful. Thankyou for a lovely stay.
The breakfast wasn’t amazing… the staff were fantastic, but food a little disappointing.

Reviewed Mar 26, 2026Stayed here one night, and booked an evening meal, which was delicious and very good value. Room was nice, overlooking the communal pool, shower was excellent.
Renovations were being done everywhere around our room, which I was aware of beforehand and accepted. But it was a bit annoying that the workers wandered backwards and forwards across our room, meaning we had to keep the curtains closed a lot of the time. When the renovations are finished, I'm sure everything will look lovely, and I have no problem recommending this place.

Our room was not large, but it was comfortable and well suited for an enjoyable stay. The lodge is very charming and rich in history, and a wonderful bonus was seeing animals come to feed right in the garden area.

Prachtig huis aan de rivier, uitkijkend over Kruger. Fantastisch personeel. Huis is wel heel donker van binnen, maar het lieve personeel en de mooie en veilige locatie maakte dit een fantastisch verblijf. De tuin en de overdekte veranda zijn prachtig om naar de dieren in de rivier te kijken. De woonkamer is een heerlijke plek om savonds of bij regen te verblijven.
De kamers zijn vrij donker.

Reviewed Dec 17, 2025Die Lage war super. Man konnte wunderbar Tiere beobachten. Das Personal war sehr nett. Auf die Frage nach Moskitospray wurde uns direkt was angeboten. Diese Unterkunft hat für uns auch eine Safari Tour organisiert, mit der wir sehr zufrieden waren. Wir durften da auch Abend essen. Da wir Kinder dabei hatten, habe ich um Sonderwünsche gebeten, damit die Kinder auch was essen. Das wurde uns nach Wunsch serviert. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich!!
Die Einrichtung ist sehr rustical. Einfach Geschmacksache. Es gibt viele Moskitos und aus diesem Grund könnte man wenigstens Moskito Vorhänge übers Bett hängen, damit man etwas geschützt ist. Das wäre vielleicht eine Idee. Wir wurden total verbissen, trotz Mückenspray.

Reviewed Dec 10, 2025Schönes rustikale Guesthouse direkt am Fluss. Innen ist es etwas dunkel, Zimmer Nr. 3 im ersten Stock hat leider keine gute Aussicht, da Palmen direkt davor sind, deshalb braucht man auch immer Licht. Zimmer war sehr nett eingerichtet und hat auch einen Kühlschrank. Es hat einen tollen Garten und eine schöne Terrasse. Von der überdachten Terrasse kann man sehr gut Tiere beobachten, wir haben Nilpferde, Antilopen und Krokodile gesehen. Abends kann man Essen bestellen, es gibt ein Menü, dies haben wir allerdings nicht gemacht, wir waren im "Deck" ca. 5 Minuten zum Fahren, liegt auch direkt am Fluß, Essen war sehr gut und wir haben sogar noch Nilpferde und Elefantn gesehen. Die Lodge ist ca. 10-15 Minuten vom Malelane Gate des Krüger enfernt und ca. 45 Minuten ans Crocodile Bridge Gate. Wir würden wieder buchen

Ein tolles Erlebnis und eine ganz besondere Unterkunft. Für mich war das ein absolutes Highlight dort zu sein. Jederzeit wieder!!

During our stay, we were charmed by the kindness of the staff and the décor — surprising yet full of originality. We also greatly enjoyed the quality of the meals and breakfast, not to mention the magnificent view from the deck. A special mention to Christophe for his carefully crafted cocktails!
To make the experience even better in our opinion, a few things could be improved: the pool, which was a bit cold and needed more maintenance; the toilet, which splashed slightly on the floor when flushed; and the bathroom, where a showerhead would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, the staircase leading to the children’s bedrooms upstairs felt too steep.

Reviewed Nov 5, 2025La vue sur la rivière est exceptionnelle! Les espaces extérieures sont incroyables pour pouvoir encore observer des animaux à la rivière en fin de journée. Le personnel est très sympathique et serviable.
Le petit déjeuner est bien - commande à la carte de oeufs et tout petit buffet de céréales. Le repas du soir est également un plat unique qu'on aime ou non.
Nous n'étions pas au courant que les boissons n'étaient pas incluses lors du souper (même pas de l'eau).
Attention également aux lits superposés pour les enfants. Le lit du dessus n'a pas de rambarde. Notre fils de 8 ans n'était pas à l'aise donc nous avons mis le lit à terre (ce qui n'était pas pratique pour le passage) - le chambre familiale était sinon bien spacieuse.

Sehr schön an Fluss gelegen, 15 Min zum Gate, gute Organisation der Touren. Individuell gestaltete Zimmer mit Bad uns Balkon. Tiere im Garten, nette Atmosphäre im Haus, sehr nettes Personal.
Die Zimmer fanden wir etwas ziemlich dunkel und etwas eng, zu zweit steht man sich oft im Weg.
Das Abendessen (Halbpension) war lecker, der Koch war ambitioniert, aber es gab für alle nur ein einziges Gericht, keinerlei Auswahl. Außerdem fanden wir das Abendessen sehr gehetzt, das offenbar vorab schon angerichte Essen kam nach einer Minute und bevor überhaupt die Getränke am Tisch waren.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. L’emplacement est exceptionnel : la chambre donne sur une rivière et le parc Kruger, on peut observer les animaux depuis le jardin — moments magiques au lever et au coucher du soleil. Le petit-déjeuner (lorsqu’il fait beau) se prend avec cette même vue, un vrai bonheur. Le lit était très confortable, nuit reposante garantie. À seulement 15 minutes de la porte de Melelane, idéal pour partir tôt le matin en safari sans stress.
Perfecte locatie met uitzicht op het Kruger Park.Erg bijzonder hotel met enorm veel verschillende verzamelingen. Heerlijk origineel Afrikaans eten in een huiselijke sfeer.
Niets viel tegen maar twee nachten was lang genoeg.

Das Frühstück war sehr schön angerichtet, und das Ambiente direkt am Fluss wunderschön. Pool ist auch vorhanden, hat auch sauber ausgesehen. Da war aber nur eine Nacht da waren haben wir diesen nicht genutzt.10 Minuten zum Malalene Gate.

Reviewed Sep 3, 2025Nous avons passé 2 jours dans ce lodge. La décoration est atypique, ce qui fait son charme. Les extérieurs sont magnifiques, la vue est exceptionnelle. Nous pouvons y voir de nombreux animaux. Nous avons fortement apprécié boire un verre au coucher du soleil avec cette vue. Le dîner était bon et les petits déjeuners copieux, servis dans un cadre superbe. L’endroit est très calme et la localisation proche de l’entrée du parc kruger est idéale. Nous avons été très bien accueillis, tout le personnel a été très sympathique. Mention spéciale pour le monsieur à la réception qui a été très gentil et amical avec nous. Des fruits, de l’eau et du lait ont été offerts à notre arrivée ce qui est très appréciable. Nous recommandons cet endroit pour les amoureux de nature et de charme. Nous ne manquerons pas de revenir si nous repassons en Afrique du Sud à l’avenir.

Reviewed Aug 30, 2025:It is a beautiful and stunning colonial house, full of details adorning the walls, where you can truly feel the soul of South Africa. From the balcony, you can see hippos, elephants, and deer, which is truly incredible as the house borders the fence of Kruger Park.
The dinner is delicious and highly recommended. I would especially like to thank Eve, who kindly washed my van and made it shine—it was an incredible gesture. I am also grateful to the manager, who provided water and a bucket, along with a very interesting conversation. It was an outstanding act of kindness that I will always remember.

Reviewed Aug 28, 2025Everything about this stay was incredible, the location was incredible with a deck that looks out to the crocodile river where we saw hippos, crocodiles, elephants and even a buffalo. The deck was well equiped with binoculars, lots of seating options and even a pool table where we loved an evening game. The meals were increbible, amazing home cooked food everynight with dessert, we agreed it was the best food of our whole trip and a great opportunity to try some authenitic south african meals at a really reasonable cost. The staff were so attentive and friendly and organised us our daily game drives. These pictures do not do this place justice!! The room was well equipped and super clean.
I have nothing bad to say about this place.

Reviewed Aug 23, 2025We've spent a few lovely days residing in a River House Lodge. What sets this place apart is the ambience - the furniture and fittings are antiques sourced from Africa and elsewhere. It lends itself to an authentic atmosphere and I felt like an explorer back in time.
Arguably, this place has the best viewing deck in all of Malelane - close to the water, hardwood floor, comfortable, spacious deck chairs, binoculars, lights - everything you need to get a good look at the animals roaming around. There's also a pool table and loungers for a relaxing afternoon.
We enjoyed the homemade food for dinner and a good wine selection.
The owner went out of his way to accommodate our 4am starts by packing us lunch boxes the night before. We also had trouble with our electric socket adapter (European to South African). He got his tools out and fixed the issue promptly.
A bit on an expensive side compared to other properties in the area, but we booked fairly last minute so with a better advanced planning that can be easily overcome.

Reviewed Aug 14, 2025Ligging aan het water waar je de nijlpaarden kunt zien, mooi aangelegde tuin met enorm panorama terras. vriendelijkheid van het personeel. Eten eenvoudig maar wel heel smaakvol. Accommodatie doet wat koloniaal aan.
Er wordt veel gerookt hetgeen je met name bij de receptie en bar heel goed ruikt. Voor astma patienten niet de meest ideale omgeving.
Wat we vreemd vonden is dat bij het uitchecken niemand hielp met de bagage (vanaf de eerste verdieping terwijl wel alles naar boven werd gebracht) en we ook geen totziens of goede reis oid verder kregen. Geen enkel woord. Heel bijzonder.

The staff feel just like family — warm, friendly, and always ready to help. They gave me so much support during my stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. I will definitely come back!

Het uitzicht over de rivier is prachtig. De nijlpaarden komen vlak voor de tuin voorbij. Prachtige tuin.
Het eten wordt eventueel voor je verzorgd.
Heel even hadden we geen elektriciteit door een storing. Dat schijnt vaker voor te komen.

Did not feel comfortable to have to sign an indemnity form in a hotel (never had to do this before) and find the owner walking around with a gun! Not helping for me feeling safe
Altough beautifull surroundings and viewing deck very old and tired. Deck needs a make-over
Johan was awesome. The kitchen staff were also very friendly. Location is excellent.
