This hotel oozes charm and is very comfortable
We stayed at Orton hall for my partner's birthday we had. Family over from France exalted food and service from the staff at Orton hall and the ramble wood thankyou for a wonderful and comfortable weekend Amanda lane
Stayed many times lovely clean rooms very nice place to stay
Nothing
Historic building with spa facilities. Staff were brilliant. Room was spacious and comfortable bed. Hotel was full of character. Have no complaints.
Nothing.
Very peaceful.
I booked a family deluxe room. When we arrived we were given a standard double. I questioned this and we were moved after some negotiation to a room that was more in line with what we booked and paid for.
Great location. Friendly. Beautiful building. Lovely pool and spa. Onsite pub serves excellent food.
Great location, beautiful surroundings, great facilities to share with our dog
The peace and quiet of the hotel, great friendly staff though out the hotel complex food was excellent bar staff friendly made our stay very enjoyable and the staff from the spa gets a 5 star rating.
N/a
The spa was so nice, the room comfy and great location
Breakfast could do with more fresh fruit for those that are gluten free or trying to eat healthier
Very dated room
The 2 ladies on reception. I always have a chat with them whenever I stay here. I wish I could remember their names.
Room 145. The metal bed squeaked all night!!
Everything !!
Nothing.!!
Very comfortable bed and good size room
Gym was not great in terms of facilities
Spa food jacuzzi and pool
No Air conditioner
The room was clean, the staff were helpful and friendly. The location is right next to Nene park which is fabulous. The breakfast was lovely. The customer service at the restaurants is exemplary. The shower pressure was insanely powerful.
. The building itself is super outdated. Damp on the ceilings and mould in the rooms. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was incredibly overpriced for what you get. The staff were kind enough to pay for our breakfast as a recompense. The walls are so thin that you can hear conversations as if you are in the same room.
The grounds were lovely and the main building was beautiful. Bed was comfortable with nice linen. Staff was polite.
No lifts available. Bathroom not great.tap not secure on sink wobbled all over the place when turning tap on. Refreshments tray literally not enough milk pods or to have more than one drink of choice. Swimming pool area needs refreshing. Rusty overhead structures which are unsightly and loungers which people lay on the cushions after being in the pool looked tatty. Breakfast was also disappointing.
This was a beautiful hotel, set in lovely grounds. The bedroom was clean and bed super comfortable. The staff were happy and helpful. The breakfast was really good.
The Spa facilities were tired looking and could do with an upgrade. There needs to be more relaxing beds as all were taken. The cushions on some were also mouldy looking.
Convenient location for a Monday appointment. Very large room and bathroom.
Room was looking a little tired, tatty in places.
Ideal for a meet halfway spa day with my sister location wise Hotel staff lovely
Spa area a bit tired but as expected for the price and the spa staff not the best in terms of customer service
The grounds and the building the facilities.
Disabled car spaces under trees and you car get smothered in bird poo. I've never seen so much poo a little warning would be good. I couldn't even open the driver side door because was poo all over the handles windows bonnet.
It was a beautiful looking building, although the entrance is the less impressive view. The breakfast area was stunning and the breakfast options were really great. Good facilities with regards to the included use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna too.
The decor felt a little tired in places and in need of a refresh. The room was spacious but needed a repaint in places.
Spa and grounds.
Room was very outdated and run down. Bathroom ceiling peeling and I even had a complimentary spider and web on the bathroom skirting.
I loved the picturesque location
1. Had to ask for 2 additional keys for our triple room. 2. My bath towel had a hole in it. 3. The room lighting was dim when it worked. 4. The sofas around hotel were old & worn. 5. Reception staff were unhelpful. 6. Cob webs in the ramble wood inn made me feel uncomfortable when eating my dinner.
Not very much!
⭐☆☆☆☆ We chose this hotel for the final night of our honeymoon and, sadly, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived for breakfast, things seemed to go wrong. Our table had not been laid despite arriving at 9.45am, and we ended up having to go into the kitchen ourselves to find cutlery. By the time we were able to start eating, much of the food was cold. To make matters worse, the vegetarian sausage did not arrive until after we had already finished breakfast. We also had to ask twice for coffee, there were no pastries available, and staff were clearing away around us throughout the meal, making it feel rushed and far from the relaxing breakfast experience we had expected. Unfortunately, dinner was no better. There was no ice bucket available for our bottle of wine, my husband's vodka and Coke was forgotten, and our meals arrived before our drinks. When we were finally ready to leave, we then faced a lengthy wait just to receive the bill. The accommodation itself was equally disappointing. The doors throughout the accommodation block were constantly banging throughout the night, making sleep virtually impossible. It appeared that the door closers were not working correctly. My husband raised this with reception and was told that staff were already aware of the issue. The receptionist explained that she had previously asked guests to close the doors manually but had been instructed by management to stop doing so. Despite the problem being known, nothing appeared to have been done to resolve it, and the disturbance continued all night. We understand that occasional issues can occur, but the sheer number of problems during a one-night stay was unacceptable. What made it particularly upsetting was that this was the final night of our honeymoon. Instead of ending a wonderful trip feeling relaxed and special, we spent much of the stay chasing basic service and dealing with avoidable disruptions.
The building from a distant looked amazing, our room size was great and the free parking.
The interior of the building could do with an overhaul the carpet is worn and fraying in places. The carpet in our room had some stains. The tap in the bathroom wouldn’t turn off. The staff were proficient in their jobs but were not engaging at all
Beautiful building and large comfortable rooms
Carpet in the bedroom was old dirty and very worn- needs replacing . We expected better for this level & price.
Always a great stay here. Good rooms, food is excellent
Very quaint, lovely country setting
Very quirky layout which I loved
Friendly staff great location
Bedroom was dirty bathroom had no toilet paper and the radiator thermometer was broken and just laid on the top of the radiator Bed was not made properly sheet at the top was not tucked in and undercover was all crumpled up Stayed here many times and very disappointed with this visit
Another lovely stay! Always enjoyable. Great room, great spa and great breakfast.
The quality of the King Sized Four Poster Bedded room. The location in the hotel with really enormous windows over looking the lovely view of the grounds. The staff were excellent and very friendly and extremely helpful. The Breakfast and staff in the restaurant were very pleasant It was so relaxing even for a one night stay. The fantastic country park opposite the entrance presented us with a very relaxing time as well as the Great Red Trees a step outside the grounds. We had lovely walks 10K on arrival day/ and 10K on the departure day. With the City only less than 3K from the City a fantastic location.
Nothing, it just felt so relaxing, really impressed the both of us.
Comfortable, clean room, excellent tasty breakfast, we didn't eat dinner at the hotel but had a couple of drinks in the pub next door which was lovely
Loved the spa, the room was lovely, staff were really friendly & helpful. Felt very comfortable as a solo traveller.
Some parts of the hotel need a little bit of a spruce up, and perhaps some new pillows!
Superb breakfast
Always loved Ramblewood but looking a little tired now and could do with a refresh
It was in a great location for Burghley
The fire alarm kept going off if I showered and dried my hair. There’s nothing worse than explaining I did these two terrible things in my underwear to a strange man at my door.
Breakfast
Room had to move bath tap not working not checked
All the stuff menber r so nice two lady on reception were so nice and kind? The bar stuff r really nice the pub lady is so nice lpve it
Everythink it so nicr amd old love pool
The restaurant was very good with a good menu including locally sourced food and cheerful, attentive staff. The main public areas were very good with interesting interiors and authentic period features. All staff were cheerful and helpful. The location was outstanding. The Ramblewood Inn pub had friendly staff and good Timothy Taylor Landlord Ale that was well kept.
The bedroom was tired and very warm at night even with a fan, sleep was not refreshing as the room was too warm. The pub food was average and very mass produced heat up and serve type dishes, the ambiance in the pub restaurant was like a cafeteria with harsh lighting. The hotel bedroom was very tired with a bathroom that had cracked tiles, tatty trim around the bath and sink and a shower that had constantly changing water temperature. The toilet pan was not securely attached to the floor.
The staff were lovely and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent.
Location Ease of booking Parking
Rooms Restaurants
Stunning old building with many historical features Large bedroom and bathroom Comfortable bed and pillows Generous towels Very good breakfast Didn’t seem to have pushed its prices up for the Burghley Horse Trials weekend
Feels rather dated but could be excellent with some updating of rooms
Love the period property and all its features
Nothing
Breakfast was awesome Meal in restaurant was amazing The setting was beautiful We had fun
A little tired in places but this was reflected in the price Pool area needs a bit of a refresh.
Large room. Lovely grounds.
Decor was tired. My room was very noisy with slamming doors, thin walls (I could hear people next door) noisy corridors. The bathroom needs re-grouting. The shower had no hot water but i reported this and it was fixed. Still, £225 per night and no hot shower.
Location was good for us
Looking a bit tired and dated
Our room was on the ground floor so near to all the facilities and swimming and a good breakfast .
We had a good time so nothing not to like .
The room was period appropriate but comfortable and spacious and very clean
Unfortunately there was quite a lot of mold in the bathroom ceiling above the shower head
Nothing
The bed was that bad I went home at 11pm the staff didnt care just said oh sorry there was 2 dead flies on the carpet the bath was grimey the skirting boards was dirty it was completely awful for 165 pounds its a rip off ive stayed in better 40 pound motels and im not even exaggerating
Layout and size of our room. Bathroom was fabulous
A few areas had been overlooked when it was cleaned.
Spa was Fab!
Spa and restaurant!
The room was very large with a lovely en-suite toilet. The pool was large also so had a great swim.
The only thing was the workout/gym area, very small with a very minimal equipments.
Location
The building was lovely. The pool was nice. Staff was friendly and polite.
Glass being put into bins after 11pm making noise
The whole stay was lovely really clean, staff was lovely and room was so comfortable. We had breakfast and food was amazing and meal at Ramblewood was gorgeous and welcoming really recommend the raindrop massage very attentive staff and puts you at ease
The only criticism and its only an observation is Ramblewood could do with a spruce up but it was welcoming, food and staffing was excellent
This is my second stay at the Orton Hall Hotel & Spa. The property is nestled in beautiful pine trees, which makes it feel peaceful and secluded while still only a 10-minute drive from the Peterborough rail station. The included breakfast is a FANTASTIC, buffet-style Full English with everything you'd ever want. The hot and powerful shower GAVE ME LIFE. The entire stay was so delightful and I'm looking forward to staying again.
The first night was extremely hot and uncomfortable because I didn't immediately find the FAN, tucked away in the closet, until the second day. I recommend that, with the soaring temperatures lately, the fan be left on the windowsill... or that the front desk mention, upon check-in, that a fan is in the room.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was a good size with a very comfy bed and well stocked with bottles water, a selection of hot drinks and biscuits. Excellent breakfast in a beautiful dining room.
The hotel is old and a little dated to to be honest it added to the charm and character
Four poster queen side bed
Didn’t want to leave
Freundliches Personal und gutes Frühstück
Etwas in die Jahre gekommen
Really only booked it due to the location behind handy for visiting friends. The surrounding area is lovely and the hotel was very clean. The bar man in the attached pub, was really friendly and helpful.
It’s really outdated and, as a result, not great value for money. The heated rail in the bathroom was on despite it being a heat wave, which meant that I didn’t sleep very well. The instruction book stated you would be able to turn it off in the bathroom but I couldn’t find a switch there at all. In the morning I realised there was one in the cupboard but it would have been useful to know that beforehand.
It was very dated and in desperate need of renovating. The beds were comfortable but extremely dated. The shower was dreadful and again extremely old and kept running hot and cold. It just needs renovating. Breakfast was good and probably the best part of our stay.
Very comfy, spacious rooms, lovely surroundings, great spa, very good value for money. Helpful staff, very accommodating.
Pub menu is a bit limited.
No Bedside reading Light and Loo not working properly
We dined in the Ramblewood Just a little disappointing that several items were off the menu so the choice was limited.
Great spot, beautiful building
As all the reviews say it is tired. It could so easily be incredible but a bit of attention to detail would make it.
Beautiful building in a nice quiet location.
It’s noted on website you can go down for breakfast at 6:30am, reception staff even confirmed this but other staff setting up breakfast said no. We needed to be gone for 7am, wasn’t able to get something till 6:50 which was a bowl of cornflakes. Did not even have chance for a cuppa which was just a shame for £15 each for breakfast.
Pub next door excellent
Offhand and apathetic attitude of the staff. They just couldn't be bothered. Dust everywhere. Cleaning obviously not supervised
The location
Some of the younger staff on reception were very unhelpful. I asked a question and they responded without even taking their eyes off their laptops. Weren’t able to give a simple answer to a simple question regarding WiFi
Room was a great size. Nice that it is in its own grounds.
Could do with a little a modernisation.
Breakfast was good. The staff were always so kind and helpful. The spa was really nice if not a little small and a bit dated. I only used the jacuzzi and sauna as I don't like pools. I didn't eat or drink in the restaurant apart from breakfast which was lovely.
The room was a little dated, and a bit 'stuffy' but this was due to the weather. (I didn't see the fan in the wardrobe until I was checking out - my bad!) There was no hand soap next to the sink in the bathroom, it was in the shower, so I had to step into the shower to get hand soap after using the toilet.
Hat Flair, großer Park mit alten Bäumen außenrum, ruhig, sehr gutes Frühstück
25 Pfund pro Hund für den ganzen Aufenthalt, für nur 1 Nacht dann leider auch
The historical building and grounds were stunning.
The spa area could do with a revamp. Staff need to also ensure babies wearing nappies in the pool use the plastic over pants. There are signs everywhere but no one took any notice.
Good location. Excellent facilities Clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff
Nothing
I love this hotel, it is so beautiful. Setting is very peaceful and I love the spa and facilities
I didn’t like the fact that our room had an extension cable draped across the fireplace in our room and I felt this let it down quite badly (see photos)
The building looks amazing on the outside. The bed was comfy. The breakfast was very delicious. The food in the pub was great value for money even though they forgot about us.
There was no ac and our room got warm even with the basic fan. The shower needs improving.
Beautiful surroundings with woods to walk your dog. Huge dog friendly room. Breakfast was lovely although you do sit quite a way from the restaurant if you have a dog. Spa facilities included in your stay (not treatments).
Character
A bit threadbare in places.
Clean, comfy, good breakfast, quiet area, swimming pool
The location, the pool, breakfast were all really positive points.
The ramblewood inn - food and service were awful.
It’s impressive but dated. Doors etc very old and creaky making loud noises at night
Quite pricey for what it is. Needs updating. Breakfast was ok but not good value for money. We booked 2 rooms which were in opposite sides of the property making it difficult to easily communicate with eachother
Beautiful location and building. Room was very large and spacious.
Prior to arriving we were told the pool was open until 20:00. Only when we arrived were we told children could not enter the pool after 18:00. The staff were quite rude about this which spoiled the start of our stay.
We visited as a family with 2 children - great value stay for bed and breakfast. The room was really spacious with a good size bathroom. Helpful toiletries (and reasonably priced items to purchase in reception including swimming costumes!). Kids were delighted with their own dressing gowns and the addition of hot chocolate sachets alongside the tea and coffee. Staff were consistently smiley and friendly and, travelling with someone who can't have gluten, food options felt safe. Particularly impressed by breakfast, and lovely crisps white linens. Swimming pool was great fun and no need for coins for the lockers. Location worked really well both for the motorway and for Peterborough, and it's really close to Nene Park. We ate dinner at the on site pub, Ramblewood Inn. Again, good range of options including for kids, and they made alterations to accommodate gluten free. Highly recommend!
The pool and spa area. Nice quiet rooms.
All good.
The housekeeping staff were very friendly. We didn't use the restaurant so can't comment. Reception staff were OK. The bed was comfy and the Heritage room was large.
It's an old building so certain elements are to be expected. However, the room was stiflingly hot even though it was only 20 degrees in the afternoon but there was a fan supplied as there's no air con. The decor is extremely tired and there was no lift and no assistance with luggage. The shower is in a bath with a shower curtain which was high to get into and very slippy. AFTER booking, we received an email stating the usual ie restaurant opening times, check in/out etc and 'in the Heritage Room there is the possibility of noise disturbance until midnight if we have a function'. They did have a wedding function indoors and the noise was CERTAINLY loud, not a possibility as stated in the email The noise coming from the event room was horrendously loud with the windows and patio doors into the courtyard open and we were on the second floor (no double glazing). We had a terrible night's sleep. Had we been part of the wedding party, it obviously wouldn't have bothered us. We left feeling it was very overpriced.
Clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Excellent value.
The venue is very nice, well laid out and pretty. The room and bathroom was comfortable. The sale of swimwear at reception was very useful.
Breakfast in the morning was very near capacity at one of the days, and the refills at the buffet we behind demand.
Lovely setting and ambience. Good breakfast. Helpful, friendly staff.
Seems like a pretty area, forests, lawns
No air conditioning in bedrooms Breakfast was very expensive My 14 yr old wasn’t allowed to use the pool before 9am or after 6pm which was very limiting as we were there for a cricket festival at Oundle.
Location
Everything. The room was full of cobwebs. Bath had scum round the rim. Bed was small. Curtains falling off rails. I could go on.
Stunning location
Car park wasn’t very clear as hadn’t been before? Shower in the room wasn’t very good as no water pressure. Showers in men’s changing room had mould in the ceiling.
Location good
Tired decoration in all main areas
Came for my cousin's wedding on Saturday ,the staff were great , especially Graham what a guy he is so lovely ,.calm and helpful very friendly and great a member of staff , a real treasure.
Location and staff. Breakfast was good with a nice selection.
Sink drain smelled. Needs cleaning.
Beautiful building
Uneven pathways
The history
Not much
Well situated, fantastic facilities, lovely grounds and central
Nothing
Very pleasant staff good spa facilities nice setting
Beautiful Old Location.
Nothing.
It's a fabulous, historic, characterful building in a beautiful wooded setting. The staff are friendly. The breakfast buffet provides a good choice and the breakfast rooms, especially the orangery, are very pleasant. There's plenty of parking.
We have stayed here several times as we have family in Orton Longueville, and the hotel rooms, albeit spacious and comfortable, are looking tired and grubby in places. Flaking paintwork and stains on carpets are off-putting, but could easily be remedied without too much cost. It would have been convenient to eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening but it has limited opening hours. Instead, we ate in The Ramblewood Inn, a pub in the grounds, (which might not be owned by the hotel?) and our meals were dreadful. Hopefully a one-off, although there were very few people eating in there.
Great stay loved it been three times and will go again
