Very cool vibe here. The pub, the pool tables, and the ping pong tables are definitely a plus. Being a hostel, you cannot expect a luxury hotel, but the facility has everything in order and is welcoming and clean.

The private rooms don't have any A/C and the only window overlooks the exterior corridor. Therefore, if you want a bit of a breeze, you lose a bit of privacy.

Clean, wifi, coffee, mini fridge

No A/C. It was hot. The fan helped and it did cool off over night. No screens on the window. I had to believe I was safe.

Price and location.

No air conditioning, my room was a little warm and stuffy. People walking along the corridor outside my room could look right into the room. The room window and curtains were either closed making the room stuffy or they were open giving some air but no privacy. The room had sleep space for three but it would have been cramped with three people in there.

Location was great. Sleeping pods were clean comfy and private .

I should stay at hostels more often. This was a pleasant surprise. I could not believe the quality of the furnishings and structure and all the facilities provided. There weren't a lot of people there but all that were seemed friendly. The bar and patio are a real treat. Downstairs kitchen, eating area, piano pool table TV and games room were huge and beyond anything I would have imagined ., the lighting, electrical, USB, shelving and storage in each pod were super adequate, clean and modern. It was nice to see all pods came with a fan.

I'm a pretty large dude so sleeping in a wooden box on the floor is a bit of an ordeal. Ventilation is a little lacking and there is no a/c. Indeed, the pods were much warmer than the nighttime or morning air.

The 2-bed suites are a little old and tired, but comfy. The pods work well though if you're getting old like me you'll want a lower pod, rather than climbing a ladder. All the amenities are there, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with other friends/families, as the shared kitchen has lots of space with a fun hang-out area attached, with pool table and ping pong, although there were only crappy rackets and pool you pay for. Oh well, that's all good.

You have to be up for the hostel "vibe", and as an old guy who likes his comforts it took me a bit to get used to it, but the staff was really friendly. The bar was hopping and I was concerned about the noise at first, but it didn't really penetrate to where I was sleeping.

Bed was plastic feeling and noisy to sleep on. Not very comfortable at all. Better beds would go along way for the experience.

I liked the energy. It was very slow this weekend so I basically had the place to myself- but the vibes were still great.

Mattress wasn’t 10/10- but it wasn’t bad.

The staff, the deck, the bar

Lack of light in room - and it was a bit warm but there was a fan and you can open window. Also, just say it's a hostel - it's a hostel. We were surprised but then liked it after all - but this isn't made clear. We enjoyed it because it's the off season but if we'd stayed during ski season we would have been livid to be misled

Very nice stay. Really enjoyed the live music on the deck, the bed was very comfortable, it was very clean, and it was close enough to walk a lot of places.

No air conditioning. We didn’t feel that leaving the window open more than a few inches to allow ventilation, provided us to have proper privacy. Maybe have sheers on window behind the curtains? A spot for the fan near the window also would have been helpful, maybe a fold down/up small shell right at ledge of window inside?

Nice place to stay a night or two. Close to downtown, amazing and knowledgeable stuff, bar in the lobby was a massive bonus 🙂

Loved the value, location and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Comfy pod with light, fan and area to lock valuables. Parking was on-site or street but close by.

All the facilities were awesome and clean (I found the bed extremely comfortable. The pool tables were a huge plus in my books. The kitchen was also well-equipped. The bartender, Seb, was lovely to interact with and definitely contributed to making my whole experience at REAL. Drinks at the pub are cheap - and come in a chilled glass which you don't get everywhere.

Nothing comes to mind at all.

It's a good option if you are looking for a new experience as a student.

clean showers. Free ski rack . There's a bar which you can access w/o leaving the Hostel. There was a free hot sauna after 4 PM . The basement is huge, there are board games and kitchen is huge. Well located. Friendly staff. Great place to make connections.

bunker beds are awkward . It looks like a coffin . I hit my head multiple times getting into my bed .

I stayed here 20years ago its amazing the improvements, clean, comfortable, excellent staff and it has everything you need. I love it.

Super loud music late in the bar - hard to fall asleep with the sounds through the floor. When arrived, got checked in and a angry housekeeper in the room

The linen and duvet didn’t look clean, really bad mattress

Nice room, well equipped kitchen and fair price

The noise from the bar was excessive and impacted our sleep. It was cranking turns until at least midnight both nights we were there. If you are looking for a party, this is the place for you. If you are looking to turn in early to get a good night sleep before leaving early for skiing, then I’d suggest you pick a different place.

No mention of this being a hostel when we booked 🤷🏽‍♂️

Awful staff, misadvertised room - didn’t receive the pictured room. No airflow in rooms, place in dire need of updates. Not clearly advertised as a hostel.

The staff were super friendly, the bar was great and the karaoke was super fun.

I couldn’t find the showers because they weren’t labeled.

I really liked the staff and the ease of check-in and check out.

The room I stayed in was loud, dripping sound in the walls, bed felt like a sheet of cardboard on a floating bed of springs. The heat was hot and moderated by opening a window. We were just by the exit so the door was slamming throughout the night.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. It was my first time staying at this place, and if I return to Fernie, I will definitely stay here again. I appreciated the atmosphere, the concept, and the overall experience. The place is pleasant and well located, which makes it a great option for staying in Fernie. Overall, my experience was very positive.

However, there are a few important points that need improvement. First, the mattress in the luxury dorm pods was not very comfortable. It was a plastic mattress, similar to the type used for children or for bedwetting protection, which really affected the comfort. Second, the biggest issue was with the refrigerators. None of them seemed to work properly, and it was impossible to maintain a safe temperature for food. I even had to fix the fridge I was using myself because both the fridge and freezer doors had remained open all night. My food was at room temperature, with water in my container coming from the freezer that had completely thawed. This is not very hygienic and raises serious food safety concerns. I believe the refrigerators clearly lack maintenance. Finally, I found it disappointing that the establishment does not recycle rigid plastic. I asked the front desk about this, and they told me that the municipality of Fernie does not recycle this type of plastic. Still, from an environmental perspective, this was disappointing. This was the only major downside of an otherwise very pleasant stay.

Bit warm in room

I couldn’t have a late check in when they said they would allow it at booking. They ended up charging me for the full night! +50 dollars hold for damage deposit. I have 2 charges on my card, no refunds given. Poor customer service accommodating the request especially on a busy summer long weekend. I ended up having to spend a night in my car in a different town. Would not recommend if you are going to be running late. Better to book an Airbnb with keyless access.

No One told us about Breakfast? the location was fine. The stairs were a bit much. If we were younger lol

No A/C or remote for the TV available, room was very warm. Two drunks next door kept me up for most of the night, no one at front desk to complain to. Had to carry heavy bags up a steep flight of stairs. Would not recommend this place.

Centrally located. Easy walking to most anything in town. Great value. We are not fancy people, so the room was adequate: bed, bathroom storage for luggage under bed. We enjoyed the bat downstairs and talking with the locals. Very friendly.

If there was a thermostat, we could not find it. Room was quite warm. Ended up opening the door to the hall to let some cold air in.

Decent hostel, value for money, good location

Poor room lighting, noise from the kodiak pub can be very loud, one bathroom towel appeared dirty on arrival but was swapped over at desk

The room was clean and the staff was approachable and helpful when I needed it.

A little small and lacking in furniture. A bit of paint peeling in the bathroom. None of this is bothersome, as I wasn't paying for a luxury hotel room. All in all, it was more than fine for what I needed.

The location was within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants.

The bed was soft and bathroom was very budget.

Its a hostel but the private rooms are great. Its not a five star hotel but if you expect it to be a hostel type of place then its a 5 star in my book.

Check out time is a little early but wasnt a big deal as we were allowed to use the kitchen and hang out space while we gathered the whole family and got ready to go.

I liked everything

Comfy bed although had to put fan on during night as quite hot. Quiet as a distance from the railway line. A little tired looking but functional.

Decent priced rooms, comfy beds, clean friendly staff.

It’s warm! I stayed in October room was 24 degrees I left window open with fan when I got there cooled down to 21 closed window and with in 30 minutes was back to 24 degrees. I like a cool sleep the fans they include helped but still way too warm for me.
