Pretty and historical
Another bathroom and beds were hard
Superb location and exceptional staff.
The desk staff was great.
We stayed in an “apartment” that was near the hotel. The apartment was clean, but had the smallest bathroom we saw in 13 nights in Ireland.
A cozy, charming and well cared for hotel. Very nice room and bathroom. The bar and restaurant were well decorated and lovely. The location was perfect in the center of the walled city. The breakfast was very nice.
service was fabulous and the room exceeded our expectations.
We booked the hotel and the room was marketed as an apartment. That was fine except they didn’t disclose the apartment was across and down the street from the hotel. They didn’t so close that there was no elevator and the apartment was 4 stories up and accessible only by stairs. They don’t disclose that the only bed was a double sized bed. Expensive and very disappointing.
We loved the apt we stayed, I a beautiful 2 bed apt, it was spacious and well equipped
Fabulous staff, great food, excellent location

Fantastic from start to finish - a real treat Fabulous attentive engaging staff. Lovely room and everything from room, atmosphere, food and drinks were brilliant Thank you Definitely recommend
Location
Dirty, small rooms, doesn't deserve its 5 stars rating
Meal excellent and staff courteous for our special occasion .everything made the occasion a treasured memory of our late beloved daughter deborah
Great location at the top of the diamond. Very clean, elegant and calm atmosphere. Really sophisticated. We had a very luxurious suite- wish we could have spent more time. The staff were so professional and couldn't be any more hospitable (top quality) 👏 . We will return again for the 5th time. Food was delicious.
Centrale, gentilezza del personale
Le stanze non hanno aria condizionata e pochi servizi all’interno
I cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful hotel and it’s wonderful team. The reception team, namely Kays and Claire were so helpful and thoughtful, during our stay. My son became unwell during our visit and they were so hospitable and concerned it made the world of difference to our stay in Derry. Thanks girls, you are a credit to this Hotel.
Had another lovely stay in the Bishops Gate Hotel; fantastic front-of-house staff. Really helpful and very friendly. We will definitely be back; it's our go-to hotel in Londonderry. Evening meal was so good, great selection and great service. Breakfast had a great selection that suits everybody. Again, different staff for the morning, but all great service given,
Great location, lovely hotel and really nice, helpful staff. Derry is such a great city, looking forward to going back!
Apartamento muito espaçoso, bem decorado, bem equipado. Localização excelente no centro turístico.

Bishops Gate is a little Gem 💎 in Derry. Rooms are so comfortable, food is excellent and the staff work so hard. Always a most enjoyable experience.
Lovely hotel in a great location and friendly staff - the valet parking was a real bonus!! Great food and a nice wine selection.
Perfect in every way. Food amazing. Simply wonderful.
Nothing. All good.
Staff and location first class , definitely will be back and recommending to family and friends
The location is excellent. Easy access to many attractions including the Wall. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Food in the hotel was ver good.
The toilet flush in our ensuite was difficult to operate.
Hotel is in a great location inside the walled city. There are lots of places to eat and shop. Walking the wall is about 1.2km. The hotel is well kept but only after spending an uncomfortable night in a room without air conditioning or a way to open the window did we learn that some rooms have air conditioning. The fan in the room did not bring much comfort— the air was close. They should have told us that ahead of time.
Beautiful from start to finish. This hotel has a cozy, elegant feel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the interiors beautifully appointed, the bed and linens were top notch, and the dinner in the restaurant one of the best I had in Ireland.
Apartment to ourselves made it a very private stay.
Location was absolutely tremendous hence I've rebooked for a future stay. Plus was lovely and the staff were so friendly and welcoming in every way.
Nothing
Location great very central. Staff more than helpful, great receptionist, very friendly. Room great, very comfortable bed, hotel very clean. Didn't have the opportunity to eat, but had coffee and scones and they were first class. Would definitely stay again if travelling to Londonderry.
I have stayed here on several occasions I bring groups on tour from USA the staff are amazing very friendly people the rooms are clean warm and inviting I love this place centrally located and just a fantastic hotel
Fantastic weekend, staff were amazing and rooms wow incredibly well looked after. Meals including breakfast delicious.
Gute Lage, schönes Zimmer, freundliches Personal (besonderes Lob für Stephanie und Emmet für ihre Unterstützung).
Clean and excellent location.
Parking should be included
Beautiful 2 night stay at the Bishops Gate hotel, staff were excellent at their job from reception staff to bar staff and waitresses especially Sinead who was a delightful person. Great place for a break and lovely visit to Derry.
Just had a one night staycation with my wife for our anniversary and it was a brilliant stay! Fantastic location, wonderful decor, great food and very warm staff. Had a great time and would recommend to anyone!
Amazing meal - had thee most amazing meal - starter & main course

Exceptional hotel with amazing staff. Perfect location for a city tour and easy access to the city wall Restaurant was also good
Fantastic location, exceptional staff who exceeded every expectation. Beautiful heritage property with stunning original features. We stayed in one of the apartments - WOW! Spotlessly clean and outstanding food and service. We will be back!
Front desk/reception staff were excellent. Very helpful in directions to restaurants/pubs, attractions and parking. Robyn and Eveln(spelling) were exceptional.
Good location, clean and comfortable. Brilliant breakfast.
Slightly overpriced

Great location inside walled city, easy walk to everything. Staff personable and helpful. Room large and well appointed. Mini-balcony with view to cathedral and wall. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Fruit was fresh. My wife says the bed should have been softer, like most American hotels, and the pillows smaller and softer.
Staff so friendly and helpful Apartment was fabulous. Lovely welcome pack
We recently spent two nights at the Bishop's Gate Hotel during our road trip around Ireland, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen somewhere special. Our first impression was pure magic. We were greeted by Robyn at reception, whose warmth and genuine friendliness immediately made us feel welcome. She took the time to explain the hotel, recommend things to do, and share a little of Derry's fascinating history. It was such a personal touch, and my husband even commented on how lovely she was. First impressions really do matter, and Robyn set the tone for a wonderful stay. A special mention also goes to Kaisi, who had our luggage whisked from the car to our room in what seemed like no time at all. Considering we travel with far too many heavy suitcases, her cheerful attitude and willingness to help were very much appreciated! We had booked a Deluxe Queen Room, and while I was initially a little disappointed by the size, the room itself was immaculate, thoughtfully appointed, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring two great nights' sleep. Our room overlooked Bishop Street, although the window was positioned quite high, limiting the view. The bathroom was spacious and functional, although it could benefit from a few cosmetic updates. What truly sets the Bishop's Gate Hotel apart is its people. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to make our stay enjoyable. That level of hospitality is becoming increasingly rare and deserves recognition. We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel's restaurant, where we had another excellent experience. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding and complemented our stay perfectly. The hotel's location is another major advantage. Situated within Derry's historic Walled City, it's an ideal base for exploring the Bogside, the Peace Bridge, the city walls, museums, restaurants, pubs, and all the history this remarkable city has to offer—all within easy walking distance. While there are a couple of small areas that could be improved, they were far outweighed by the exceptional service, cleanliness, beautiful character of the hotel, and the genuine warmth of everyone we met. Thank you to Robyn, Kaisi, and the entire Bishop's Gate Hotel team for making our stay so memorable. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Derry.
We have stayed at the Bishop's Gate quite a few times and have never been disappointed. We received a very warm welcome from Stephanie at reception. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she even sourced a second set of keys for us. We normally stay in the Alexander apartment in Palace Street but that was booked so we were in the 2 bed duplex in London Street. Everything was fine but we have been spoiled with the Alexander. The duplex is much smaller and only has one bathroom which was difficult when there were 4 of us staying there. Also the living room and kitchen are on 2 different floors which was a bit of a nuisance. The apartment is on the 3rd floor so there are lots of stairs. The shower didn't drain very well but we reported that to reception when we were leaving. We ate in the bar and the food was gorgeous and the staff were all lovely.
The lovely experience started as we arrived. The reception staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, from taking our car to be valet parked, to making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The bar and restaurant staff were equally welcoming. The food was excellent, the room was comfortable, and the position excellent. We would definitely recommend!
After a dissapointing Da Vincis dinner, we ended up at the Bishops Gate, totally unplanned. It's a fantastic hotel in a good location with excellent handy parking nearby. The staff are friendly and very professional...and there all mostly young. The menu is excellent, broad and very well priced with a good choice for children. I ordered a Sirloin which was absolutely top class...and everyone else said the same, there was chicken & monkfish amongst the other orders all which went down well...along with the side orders and desserts and even coffee, it was all excellent. The building, the decor, the atmosphere, the staff...they take pride in everything they do...and it shows. Other places should take note.
It was very welcoming ,very homely and comfortable!
I loved everything!
The rooms were clean, great place to stay. The food was okay and service a little slow.
Service could have been better at the restaurant and bar
It’s a beautiful building, the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good.
It was much more expensive than previously because of the maritime festival. I was upgraded to a lovely room facing the street which unfortunately was directly over a party of some kind with very loud music. All in all, would have preferred not to be upgraded!
The apartment was so spacious, extremely clean and comfortable, ideal for a family, would recommend to others. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful, I would stay here again for sure.
We had an evening meal the food was well presented and perfectly cooked but the menu was limited. There was a good selection for breakfast cooked and continental.
We stayed in one of the gf apartments across from the hotel and were awakened very early by works machinery bein driven up and down the lane by our bedroom Windows. I appreciate the hotel has no control of this.
We loved this place! We did the two bedroom apartment room and it was much bigger than we thoughts. Everything was adorable and antique. The staff was incredibly kind. We were only there one night and all of us wished we had stayed more.
One of our favourtie places we stayed over our 9 week European adventure. The staff was totally awesome, the facilities were wonderful and the apartment was fantastic. I say go for it. You're on vacation so splurge a little.
Beautiful hotel in the center of Derry with first class service. We spent 1 night in a very comfortable room. I want to especially thank Edel at the front desk who went out of her way with personalized attention. She could not have been more kind and helpful! She recommended a 30 minute guided walking tour of the city which I highly recommend.
Everything, can't wait to visit again soon!
We stayed in three hotels while in the Republic and Northern Ireland and Bishop's Gate Hotel was by far the best of all. It is a cozy hotel located in the heart of Derry- a great city unto itself. One can easily get around on foot to walk the walls or access other locations. The room was a very comfortable home base for our trip to Derry. The dinner at the restaurant was among the top meals we had in Ireland. Do not miss a chance to enjoy dinner. Staff was the best. We were beat when we arrived. Staff gladly got us some tea and coffee for a quick refreshment and our room was ready in minutes although we showed up quite early. I will definitely return to Derry and this hotel.
This is a minor point- upgrade the ambiance in the dining room, including the sound system.

Nothing at all... couldn't find a fault one way or the other
Fantastic hotel. Great staff. Dinner was very good with good menu choice and wine list. Nice bar. Nice room with added bonus of robes
The Bishop’s Gate Hotel is located . . . drum roll please . . . by the Bishop’s Gate in Derry. That makes it not only easy to find, but also convenient to walk the walls and to see much of the central city easily. The hotel has valet parking, but we used an enclosed lot about 200 feet down the street. This is a boutique hotel. We were warmly greeted and immediately given helpful tips about the area. Our room was possibly on the small side, but comfortable and with elegant and interesting design elements. Take advantage of the location to explore the walls, which are about a mile around the town center and have many terrific views. From this location, the walk is much easier if you go in a clockwise direction, which will also take you past the “Derry Girls” mural. We enjoyed our stay here, but what really made it great was the charming and friendly staff. We felt more like invited guests than hotel customers. What a great place!
This was the most beautiful setting for an afternoon tea. Staff were so attentive and kind to us all. Family group of 16 so we had a private room. The savoury plates were ideal as the starter and then 4 items of each sweet treat arrived, as many pots of tea and coffee as was needed. Room booked for 3 hours which is perfect time. Definitely would recommend this fantastic hotel for a get together
It’s very historic and a great location. Easy to park in the carpark opposite for a fraction of hotel parking.
We liked the spaciousness of the room but too many issues. 1) bed was normal double size which is disappointing for a hotel especially when the room was huge. The headboard stuck out well past the bed so I guess they changed it. But my husband and I are used to super kingsize so it really felt tiny. 2) far too many bright lights in the ceiling which didn’t switch off. Luckily I’d taken an eye mask but my husband didn’t sleep well because of it. 3) windowless bathroom meant it was pitch black but it only had the main light which made it like an operating theatre. Nobody needs that at 3am :(
Excellent in all aspects. The hotel's staff deserve a special mention: excellent.
I would like to thank Brenda in the restaurant for fantastic service it was such a pleasure to dine there
Another great meal at this hotel. One of my favourites. The evening menu was excellent value and food was exceptional. Looking forward to my next visit.
Great location. Comfortable rooms. Excellent staff, including Edel.
All was good.
The staff are warm and welcoming, the apartments are well appointed and are in a fantastic location for exploring the city on foot.
Keurig hotel met vriendelijke personeel. Valet parking was handig. Het restaurant was top.

We enjoyed a fantastic stay in the elegantly spacious, and tastefully appointed ‘Alfred Arthur Forman’ Penthouse Suite in the Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Derry. Read more here on our website too. Featured in Ireland’s Blue Book, this beautifully restored Edwardian building is a unique and luxurious base right in the heart of the city. With thirty-one guestrooms, two suites and self-contained apartments, each room at Bishop’s Gate Hotel is a delight. Our penthouse suite was the last word in charm and character, reflecting the heritage and style of Forman, the architect who remodelled the building at the turn of the last century, and was renowned for his quirky attention to detail. With its superb cityscape views of the Guildhall and Peace Bridge, a spacious living and dining room with a classical fireplace, tasteful furnishings and attention to detail, (the vintage style telephones were a nice touch), and a separate bedroom with an incredibly comfortable King Size Bed, this was a beautiful suite. The Designer Bathroom had a bath, a walk-in Monsoon Shower, and our favourite toiletries by Rituals were also provided. The room also included Luxury Robes and Slippers, and complimentary access to the Fitness Room. The hotel is also home to the excellent Gown Restaurant showcasing seasonally inspired dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients, the Wig Champagne Bar with its theatrically unique legal-themed décor, and The Northern Counties Ballroom which combines period grandeur with modern design, creating the perfect backdrop for any large scale event, with space for up to ninety guests. The hotel blends the contemporary and traditional seamlessly, and is perfectly situated for exploring all that the historic walled city has to offer. LUNCH Bishop’s Gate Hotel-The Gown Restaurant. The beautifully restored Edwardian Bishop’s Gate Hotel is home to the excellent Gown Restaurant, renowned for showcasing seasonally inspired dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. The Gown has an elegantly charming interior, with its sage green wall panelling and original architectural features, and we enjoyed a terrific Sunday lunch, from the set menu. To start, the Chicken & Bacon Caesar Salad with Baby Gem Leaves, Parmesan Shavings, & Croutons was light and refreshing, and the golden Greencastle Catch Fishcake was served with a Smoked Salmon Salad & Chunky Tartar Sauce. Our main courses were a moist Pan Seared Fillet of Salmon with Pea Puree & Buttered Greens, and a superb vegetarian dish of Potato Gnocchi in a Mushroom & Spinach Cream. To finish, we shared a luxurious Vanilla & Raspberry Pannacotta with Chantilly cream and fresh berries. Our meal was accompanied by a glass each of Jack Francis "Gloaming Rime" Gruner Veltliner, and "Fairy Rust" Sankt Laurent Zweigelt, wonderful organic wines crafted in Austria by local wine maker Jack McAteer. And why not relax in the Wig Champagne Bar with its theatrically unique legal-themed décor, for a cocktail or two: the Negroni & Old Fashioned were both top notch. Sunday Lunch at The Gown is available from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
We have had such a lovely experience staying here, we stayed in one of the apartments which is very spacious and clean, the beds are so comfortable and every little detail is covered in case we needed anything, We also ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner which we cannot fault with the service or quality. The staff were so professional and approachable , the Concierge whose name is Kaysi was delightful and she ensured our stay was as relaxing as possible no job was too big for her. We will definitely be back, Thanks Kaysi and all the staff of Bishops Gate Hotel
Lovely hotel in great location.
Very central hotel, beautifully presented and very clean
That we only got to stay one night
We were in an apartment - offsite to the main hotel. The size of the apartment was very good but as we stayed only the one night didn't get to utilise the whole apartment. Breakfast in the hotel was good with reasonable options. Staff were very helpful with instructions and taking bags to rooms etc. Very central to the main part of town and easily walking distance to most places of interest.
Nothing really.
I would give 5 stars to this hotel for its staff, accommodations, food and location. We would definitely stay here again the next time we visit Derry/Londonderry..
It was ok but derry let it down!! A place to stop but not to return to
Not a great spot to stay as derry was dilapidated around it
The hotel was in a fantastic location. It had everything you needed and the staff from the minute you walked in the door were exceptional. Friendly, very helpful and professional.
This hotel, situated within the old walled city of Derry, is outstanding. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. Rooms are large and well appointed and spotless. Our room had a large walk-in shower. Public spaces are comfortable and welcoming. We attended a private dinner in one of their dining rooms, and the food was well presented and plentiful. Breakfast was made to order. I can see why this gets such high scores. Unsurprisingly, it isn’t cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Beautiful property with a great location - we were able to walk to the Peace Bridge and to the Walled City brewery. The staff are exceptional and the food we had was very good. Our only issue was that it was not air conditioned and our room was warm even though it was quite cool outside. Otherwise it's a gem of a little hotel.
A fantastic team of people were exemplary , they are running a great hotel …..you won’t be disappointed if you stay at this hotel.
Lovely hotel in a great location. Great facilities, first class decor. Room was lovely, breakfast top notch. Staff very helpful, recommended.
Everything! The Friendliness of the staff and quick support and care.
Well located friendly staff and modern appeal
Car parking charges were high
Friendly staff - helpful and proactive.
Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, great food
The room lighting is far too dim
Fab location
I didn’t like the fact that the yogurt or smoothies were not on ice
This hotel is immaculate, comfortable and very friendly. The room was beautiful and nicely decorated, the staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfast is wonderful.
Fantastic location, lovely staff and a complimentary upgrade!
Loved it all
Stayed in one of the hotel apartments which at first impression looked great. BUT the double bed felt very small and we aren’t used to being in a small bed. It was too hard for our preference and the duvet was thin and quite unpleasant. There were two shining lights in the ceiling which didn’t switch off. And they were ridiculously bright for trying to sleep. Went to the loo in the middle of the night and the only light was the main one which threw me into something akin to an operating theatre. Completely enclosed bathroom with no windows so it was truly pitch black and really needs a night light. It’s such a shame that these very fixable problems spoiled a lovely visit. Without these annoyances the room was great and had a completely separate kitchen and living room which we didn’t use but it would have enhanced the experience. We did give feedback upon checking out and the receptionist kindly removed our nightcap drink from the bill. I hope the hotel might look at these issues and sort them out.
Hotel centrale e comodo per visitare la città, qualità delle camere e del servizio eccellente. Per quanto riguarda la colazione, quella tradizionale molto vasta e completa mentre, per quella continentale, poca varietà
What a charming, comfortable and lovely place to stay! The staff were exquisite and the room was so delightful! Great water pressure, the windows opened and the hair dryer was so great! Certainly made things more comfortable so far from home!
Lovely hotel made outstanding by the service given by Kaysi and her team. Arriving cold and wet from walking in Donegal, we couldn't reach the hotel by car as St Patrick's Day celebrations closed the roads. Kaysi walked out in the rain to meet us, took charge of the car and pointed us in the direction of food and comfort. Her team gave hints of where to explore and we spent a super afternoon and evening discovering Derry and enjoying the celebrations. The staff are a great credit to a very good hotel.
The property was really spacious. The online photos don’t do it justice. They even had fresh milk in the fridge. Really comfortable beds. Really close to local bars and nightlife. Staff really friendly and always happy to help.
You need to stay at the Bishopsgate if in Derry. We live in Derry and stay here for its location, warmth and high level of hospitality. Its a boost for the soul. It is a great central but quiet location. The decor is on point, the restaurant and bar high quality and the rooms charming. The staff are friendly, and the best of craic
Smart Apartment
Unfortunately noisey work on the pavements next to the apartment.
The staff (Robyn & kasey) were the most friendliest people ever nothing was to much bother for them and they made us fell very welcome
Pillows were exceptionally hard .. but it won't make me not stay again
What a find ! This wonderful hotel is in a historic building that has been sympathetically restored into a luxury hotel whilst still retaining its historical importance every major sight is on your doorstep, fully walkable, once leaving the hotel you can be standing on the historic walls within moments We have been lucky enough for stay in all the categories of the rooms previously but this time we stayed in a suite which was just so amazing Professional & welcoming team, thank you to Kaysei & all the team in front office for another memorable stay Breakfast was lovely, great selection of cereals, pastries, juices etc & a freshly cooked breakfast also .. yum ! If you don’t manage to be lucky enough secure a room at the Bishop’s Gate for your stay then do at least have dinner in the restaurant or drinks in the bar when visiting this town For comfort, service & location this is the best hotel in town without a doubt
