Dusky Lodge

Such friendly staff, super helpful. Sauna and spa were amazing after a long day of travelling. Due to light bookings, had my own dorm room, which was amazing. Super clean bathrooms and kitchen, with a few freebies that people had left behind. Great chalk board in common space highlighting things to do in the area. Free wifi. Nice fire in the common space.

Nothing comes to mind...would have been nice to have the coffee that I saw on the listing, but absolutely understand why it wasn't running during late Winter/early Spring.

Manager is so lovely and was very helpful, the rest of the staff are super friendly, shared areas are spacious and clean, room was nice, really recommend!

It was awesome as I will be coming back another time and I will be telling my friends and family members about going there i really enjoy my time there thank you soo much

I really loved the view of the mountains from our room door. Everything was wonderful.

Staff asked us not to use kitchen as they want to clean but it was lunch hour, why would they start cleaning when ppl want to have lunch

Nice big and clean communal facilities. I liked the kitchen had free food section so nothing was wasted when guests left and really pretty views from outdoor areas.

One improvement would be a hanger or two or something like that in the private rooms as there was no where at all to unload any clothing so just had to live out the bag

Bed the springs made a noise when laying on them, cook top in other kitchens when staying prior aren’t effective nor efficient.

The pool and cafe were excellent. The beds, although bunks were very comfortable.

It would have been a 10 out of 10 but unfortunately during our stay the spa was being refilled and so was only available to use half of our stay.

Room very small, and noisy, some of the other rooms had very noisy doors and the women toilet door noisy as well.

Nice hostel with plenty space to hang out with others and the 10 bed dorm was well arranged so it didn't feel packed at all :)

Really good outdoor and indoor social spaces, felt very welcoming. Rooms were nice and relatively spacious.

Wifi didn’t work in the room, it worked in some of the social areas.

I had an injury a couple of days prior to my trip and staff were very helpful in making sure I had a bottom bunk and no stairs to climb. They really went the extra mile.

Location was a short walk from the main town centre, around 15 mins. Staff were friendly & helpful & facilities were good. Nice to have an outdoor pool, a bit cold but nice on a hot day & there’s a hot tub/pool & sauna too if you want something warmer!

If I had to say something it would just be that the bunk beds are a little dated, no hand rail to help get you up & down if you are on the top bunk, no privacy curtains, lights or plugs like some places have. But to be fair, I knew this beforehand so it was ok for me but some might not like the no curtain aspect

Great setup and friendly staff

The mattress on the double bed was definitely overdue to be replaced - not a great sleep. but the mattresses on the bunks were all good.

Nice stay, all the amenities

It was very nice to have a pool and spa pool, you could also walk into town and the beach is not too far away. The kitchen was tidy and the people were nice. The view was also very good!

When we put the bedding off we found a bug on one of our pillows.

We have stayed here several times, and I finally used the hot pool. Highly recommend that, and the pizza was very good!

As it is a large place, rowdy neighbors can be a risk. It did not last too long though

Great location for whale watching and other activities.

Having paid such a high price, we were surprised that stripping the beds was required, especially based on our stays at other lower costing hostels. No sound proofing, other guests were heard very loudly at night, which prevented a good sleep.

Really nice well equipped hostel - extremely friendly and helpful staff - allowed us to drop luggage ahead of check in and after check out. Bed was comfortable, room clean and shower good. We didnt use the shared kitchen but was great to see it was extremely well equipped.

Busy truck route but slept so well it wasnt an issue.

Map of room layout was difficult to follow for me as an after hours arrival. It looked like cut and paste gone wrong. A few more descriptive words might help. Or a better map

Noise particularly in the early hours from other guests

I took a punt when booking that it wasn’t a party lodge, it was accommodation to break a drive home, and in that respect we were happy, other guests were considerate.

We were in the front upper unit, Dusky and while it had double glazing, one latch was missing meaning the window didn’t seal at all and the frequent heavy vehicle road noise was so loud. To be fair we appreciate it’s not your fault we’re light sleepers 🙁

A big spa and a swimming pool. Big kitchen and dining room. A good lounge. Clean and secure. Aside the pool, there is a small place where they cook wood-fired pizza. Nice and big hostel. Not far from the New World food supermarket.

Von der Bus Haltestelle bis zur Unterkunft 1,1km entfernt.

The first two nights were in room 12, which was a double room shared with my son, the third night was in an ensuite family room. This is much more than a backpackers, with TV's in the rooms, amble sized kitchen, washing line (great for hanging out the tent between stays to dry) a sauna, spa and 'heated' swimming pool which was a little cold but the spa was great temperature. Staff really helpful and let us leave our stuff at the lodge on the one night we had to camp between stays due to lack of availability. Thank you Dusky Lodge. Can't comment on whether it would be romantic or not as not travelling with husband but with my 12 year old son.

Swimming pool could be a bit warmer, some of the 18-30's whom the lodge is aimed at, took over the spa pool which was unfortunate as it slightly intimidated my son who has ADHD (aged 12 years) and thus limited our time in the pool, otherwise clean and comfortable.

L'emplacement, la piscine, le jacuzzi et le saune étaient vraiement idéals pour un séjour à Kaikoura.

Il manquait un rangement pour ces affaires dans la chambre.
