The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient. The breakfast was good and had a nice variety of options.

The Wi-Fi connection was sometimes slow. Other than that, everything was satisfactory and enjoyable.

Water was really hot. Mesh on top of the bed was helpful. Also there were no other guests at the hotel, it was quite.

Hotel was not expecting for us to arrive and didn’t want to let us in until so we had to negotiate with them for a long time for having a booking via website. Even we were the only guests at all hotel it seems that people just don’t need any clients. There was a lot of mosquitoes inside of the room, I asked hostess twice for having an electric fumigator, she said that she will give it to us but she never back. The room was not ready, so we had to wait another 30 minutes. Bathroom was dirty, both bath and sink had a dirt film, with sand, oil and black hairs on the floor, like it was cleaned maybe once per month. I couldn’t even use bath for not getting some disease. So as a pool that haven’t been cleaned for many weeks. Just after 2 hours I tried to find hostess, or any other worker , but hotel was completely empty. Breakfast was horrible, besides a juice food was clearly not smelling well and cold like it was just some residues from previous days, so paying extra for a food has no reason.

Now it's become my second home ...

Places run down, not as shows on the online staff so friendly and they tried to do the best they can but the owner is very ignorant and neglect. The place is rundown. not worth one star.

Manager went far and beyond to make our stay amazing and feel special. Highly recommend the continental breakfast which included exceptional coffee and omelettes. Kind and generous people with time and energy. Thank you 🙏

There is nothing to like about it as the hosts over there are not humans. They don't accept the booking.com prices and do over billing. And if you ask for booking.com rates they starts fighting.

Rooms smell and they don’t provide blankets!

The rooms were separate bungalows surrounding a lovely garden. It had the potential to be very old world and charming which was why we chose it. The staff welcomed us and were mostly accommodating but had limited English. The breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty.

The electric switches did not work or were held together with tape. The vanity unit was also taped around the edges presumably for safety. The tv did not work and we were told it would not work while we were there. No option was given. The internet in our room was patchy and we had to sit in the lobby to use the only reliable internet.

Delightfully large and airy bedrooms with air conditions and overhead fan. Large dining room, comfy lobby and nice swimming pool set in lovely garden. Very friendly and helpful staff at every level from reception and kitchen and grounds staff and including the manager. Our stay felt like a very special event. We had a lovely Sri Lanka breakfast and had Tuk Tuk arranged for us for lion rock visit.

We had nothing that we didn’t like.

Comfortable bed, fabulous location

Main purpose of visit was to climb Sigiriya Rock. The hotel is close, only a couple kilometers and 5-7 minute Tuk ride. Excellent location. Staff were warm, friendly, effective and wonderful. The manager, Mr. Roshan and front desk clerk, Dilki, were lovely. Mr. Rashan had worked in major hotels in Dubai and provided OUTSTANDING, attentive customer service, helping to arrange Tuks to Sigiriya and Pidurangala, identifying a train to return to Colombo and calling local train station to confirm schedule. Truly outstanding customer service.

The manager was fantastic and gave us lots of great recommendations of where to go and what to see. The restaurant meals were delicious and very generous.

Even though I booked a twin room/ 2 beds for my sister and I, so there were clearly 2 people staying, the overly officious woman at reception charged me for an ‘extra person’ at the end of our stay! This did not happen ANYWHERE else we stayed.

Staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. They also gave very good advice on how to plan our time visiting Sigirya and the ancient cities.

コテージが隣の部屋と内部で繋がっている(ドアはロックされていました)構造のため、隣の家族の赤ちゃんの泣き声がドア一枚を隔てて一晩中聞こえたことで、プライベート感は少なかったです。 また部屋の家具のノブが一部破損していたり、セキュリティボックスのロックが故障していたりと、少し不具合が見つかった点は残念でした。

The staff, especially the first manager, were super friendly and helpful. The resort itself is nice, it just needs a bit of tlc and cleaning, and it could be a 10. The food we did have was excellent and it was a nice location, a few mins ride from the main road, bars and restaurants.

We paid extra for the room with a batch but it had a greasy ring stain so we only stood up and used the shower which didn't have great pressure normal a shower curtain and was a bit treacherous getting in/out. The bed was comfy enough and definitely had clean sheets on but had a musky/sweaty smell to it, which was not pleasant. The wifi was ok until the evening, presumably everyone is using it so it becomes unusable, and mobile 5g signal was weak too. The pool was green the day we arrived so we skipped that. One manager the day we were leaving was throwing stones at a cat that some guests had called over to give some food as it was starving, that was not cool. Could also do with more vegan food options, especially for breakfast.

Large rooms and an attractive peaceful environment. The amazing service we received from Roshan Rathnayaka, the manager. We had two days in Sigiryia and with his help we were able to organise a programme that involved visiting Lions Rock, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and a cooking lesson for one of our party, who really enjoyed it. Roshan gave us excellent advice on what time of day to visit sites, how long we would need there and how long to get there and also organised transfers at competitive prices and Tut Tuts for short trips, We enjoyed food at the restaurant and again Roshan made sure we had food at the times we needed it.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting, located out of town and it felt like an oasis. My room was very big, clean, and comfortable- it was a triple and could easily accommodate 3 adult solo travellers. The staff were very welcoming and service was exceptional throughout my stay. In particular, Roshan helped with transport and a last minute safari tour when I had some problems - lots of tips and advice. Dilki at reception always had a welcoming smile, the manager made sure to come out and say ‘Hi’ and all the young men and woman around the property greeted you with a smile. Food in the restaurant was delicious and the pool was relaxing after a big day climbing stairs! I highly recommend this property.

A minor detail, but I would have liked a glass of wine with my meals. But I have found it’s not uncommon for small hotels to have only beer.

Vriendelijk personeel, prachtige kamer en goede bedden. Ruim opgezet. Diner en ontbijt waren ook zeer goed. Gastheer heeft geholpen met het regelen van een safari.

De douche had een goeie harde straal en was direct warm.

-Zwembad was vuil, wilde er zelf niet in zwemmen. - wifi werkt niet op de kamer, na klacht minstens nog 12h zonder internet. Gevraagd achter compensatie en geen reactie. - lavabo liep niet door en werd hersteld na opmerking maar badkamer werd vuil achtergelaten met modder. - Te veel betaald aan tuktuk die door hotel geregeld was. - veel te duur voor wat het was, het hotel is precies al 20 jaar oud en de laatste jaren niet bezocht.

Great property very close to the Sigiriya Lion Rock and great base for safari - very nice property but the staff made it very special for use, no request was too much, great food, clean rooms, we will definitely come back!

We stayed for three nights during the off-season, and the hotel was very quiet – which we actually enjoyed. What really stood out was the hotel manager. He was extremely helpful and friendly, taking the time to assist us with our onward journey to Ella and explaining everything in detail. All other staff members were also very kind and attentive.

The pool wasn’t clean at first, but it was cleaned toward the end of our stay. 2 of 3 rooms were good but one was not so clean and the AC didn‘t worked out perfectly

But what truly made this stay outstanding was the exceptional service provided by restaurant manager, Rostand Rathnayaka. His professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care made every meal feel special and every guest feel valued. The hotel itself was peaceful, clean, and comfortable — a perfect base for exploring Sigiriya and the surrounding area. But it was Rostand’s warmth and attention to detail that elevated our experience far beyond expectations. Every interaction felt personal, every request was met with a smile, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Thanks to the incredible service, we had no hesitation in extending our stay by another two nights. It was an easy decision to linger a little longer in such a welcoming and well-run place. Ac was good and bed was comfortable

We had a disappointing stay at Royal Retreat, Sigiriya. Service was extremely slow—no help with luggage, only one towel in the room, and it took 5 hours and 4 reminders to get another. The pool was dirty with leftover food and drinks from the night before, and no one bothered to clean it despite our request. The only positives were a comfortable bed and working air conditioning. Overall, the place is poorly managed and not worth the money

Front desk staff were not that helpful, we had to change the room 3 times, 1st room shower was broken, 2nd room roof was leaking. Pool was dirty and front desk staff was unhelpful while check in, had so much issues with checking in

Its a little remote but a nice stroll around area. More importantly they have an Austin 7 (old car) at the entrance. Only 3 in Sri Lanka I'm told. We ended up getting 3 rooms which all different, some huge, some not. The Hotel restaurant was very convenient.

Maden kom 40-50 min efter man havde bestilt. Slidt sted som man ellers havde glædet sig til da det lå i den dyre ende. Alt i alt det dårligste sted vi har boet i de 6 uger vi har rejst på Sri-Lanka. Som ellers har været fantastisk.

While the property itself has a tranquil setting with beautiful gardens, our experience was mixed. The hotel grounds are spacious, peaceful The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful ! Especially Bandara who had excellent communication skills and helped us plan two fantastic days. Thanks to him, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the area. Big thanks to Bandara, the hotel is very fortunate to have you. Overall, while the setting and staff made our stay enjoyable, the room conditions and value for money did not meet expectations. With some improvements in cleanliness and written information of communication, this could be a fantastic place to stay.

The room, while spacious needs some well needed TLC. Dim lighting, persistent musty smell, towels a little tired. Meal service was unclear, having clear written information in English would be helpful.

No towels at the pool. Noisy in the room due to being next to storage area so staff banging and talking plus cleaning the roof in the afternoon. Breakfast should have been offered and included for the price.

We reserved room for 3 nights, but on the first night they said they were booked, and had to transfer us to a very bad room, much older, smaller and no AC - compared to what we booked. The other two nights we had the room we booked and it was good. Breakfast totally not worth the price, much better option is to eat outside.

L’hôtel a dû être incroyable, il y a 10 ans en arrière aujourd’hui, il n’est pas ou peu entretenue voir les photos En plus de son état pitoyable notre chambre était été proposé avec les options suivantes moisissures,cafards dans la chambre, drap sale. Le personnel ne fait rien de la journée, et quand on leur demande de nettoyer la chambre, il ne le font pas ou alors il faut dépenser plusieurs fois En fonction de l’envie du personnel, vous avez le choix entre être servi à table ou avoir un libre service. Notre table n’avait pas été nettoyé de la veille, et il nous a été proposé de remanger à la même place Nous avons demandé plusieurs fois à l’hôtel de changer notre grosse monnaie pour des coupures plus adéquates au pays, ce qui n’a jamais été accepté. Les t-shirts sont à la tête du client, un matin, c’était 2000 et le surlendemain 5000… Note très importante. Vous êtes situé au milieu de la jungle, vous devez faire 1,5 km pour aller dans le premier restaurant. Attention après 18 heures il est fortement déconseillé de rentrer à pied parce que vous pouvez croiser des éléphants qui sont extrêmement dangereux. Le personnel de l’hôtel ne nous en a pas parlé, et ce sont les gens que nous avons croisé qui nous ont dissuadé jusqu’au soir où nous avons croisé un éléphant de nuit. Pour finir, avant même de réserver fuyez cette hôtel PS: Dommage que nous ne pouvons pas être plus de quatre photos, parce que nous avons pris des vidéos où l’on peut voir tout ce que l’on l’indique dans le commentaire

It’s away from the crowd & staff are friendly & breakfast was good.

It’s not properly clean & the floor was a bit sticky. An exhausting fan in the bathroom was broken . 2 twin bed were bunked together & it’s a bit uncomfortable for me to sleep. The sheet is so thin. I would say it’s a bit over price.

The service was non existent, a strange and unsatisfying place. Overall it felt like we were given a place to sleep “for free” and should be grateful for it, except that it was one of the most expensive places in the area. I strongly advise to see other places nearby instead. Thankfully we stayed there only one night.
