Room was lean if not a little dated
loved every minute staff most helpfull l we will stay again possiblely early nexy year thanks for a nice weekend
Internet service was good, rooms were clean if a little dated, bar was not very well stocked, staff were friendly up until you wanted anything slightly out of the ordinary or had an issue, then they tried their best to ignore you or just tell you nothing could be done about it. In particular the parking, despite having to pay for 2 nights parking there was none available on the Saturday night and we were told to park in the layby down the road, but were still charged.
Excellent value for half board. So convenient for trains , buses and walking . Helpful hardworking staff and clean rooms etc.
Quaint hotel within walking distance of train and bus stations.
Like walking into Fawlty Towers The hotel felt quite dated but cosy. Our room was small, very warm, and definitely in need of an upgrade for the price. Plenty of hot water and a good shower though. We stayed with our dachshund, and were disappointed with the dog experience. The room clearly had strong smells from previous dogs, and we were surprised to find the dog fee was £20 per night, not per stay as we’d thought. For that price, we expected a bit more — no treats, bowls, blanket, or even a welcome note for dogs, which other hotels often provide. The hotel said the charge covers a deep clean, but it still felt excessive for what was offered. Breakfast was in a separate room since the main restaurant isn’t dog friendly, but the Orrest Bar was lovely — we enjoyed a meal there with Stan and played dominoes, which was a nice touch. We booked 3 nights B&B but left after 2 because of poor sleep — the mattress was uncomfortable, and there was a lot of noise from rooms above, leaving me with a sore back. We still had to pay for the full stay and all dog charges. Their response when we told them why we were checking out early- ‘sorry, but nothing we can do about that!’ Overall, it was an expensive stay for what we got. Fine for a night, but we wouldn’t return, especially with a dog.
Lift was out of order , my room was on top floor last room , no offer to help carry my many bags up , bar was poorly stocked, no diet mixers so couldn’t have a drink. Room was clean , very basic but comfortable.
The room walls were thin and i could hear everything in the neighbours room next to my room. Apart from that the service was great service with staff and clean too.
Room was a good size , furniture was a bit dated , staff friendly, good breakfast.
Friendly and great value
Yes
We only stayed for 2 nights so we only went back to the hotel to sleep. Excellent shower, nice view from the window. The only draw back for me was the lift had broken and we were on the second floor
Nice historic building and exterior. Nice and close to station. Good things end there. Paint in rooms is old and scuffed, with various marks on the walls and doors. Can hear everything happening in the hallways. Good water pressure, but temperature could only be described as lukewarm. Breakfast was average and not worth it.
Too many coach parties which made the breakfast experience not enjoyable.
Nice Hotel. In desperate need of a re-furb, which I believe starts in Oct 2025. Should be first class when done. Surrounding area nice. Quick access for town. Binoculars needed for lake view.
Internet was fine, cleanliness middle of the road, bar was closed, the place needs a little investment
We liked that the hotel was close to buses and town making it easy to get to around etc.Catering staff etc were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. The lift broke on our 3rd day of 7 night stay and remained out of order for rest of our stay. which was a bit of a problem as my wife had to hobble upstairs with her walking stick.Although the room was clean and tidy it was not as good as we were expecting it to be.The online brochure showed a very nice room but was not the same as the one we were given.Rooms like the one we had should have been shown in the brochure so we knew what room we were paying for. It was a very basic room and we expected more.We were very dissappointed with that as with my wifes mobility problems ,she struggled to step in and out of the bath.We also did not know about the £6 a night car parking charge until after we had booked and paid.We decided to travel by train because of this extra charge because we thought this was very wrong.Guests only should be allowed to park free of charge by taking registration of your vehicle like other hotels do..There was a bar and extra facilities but they were shut so we did not have the chance to see what that was like.On our last night dog was barking most of the evening in an nearby room, which kept us awake most of the night. We feel guests with dogs should be in a separate part of the hotel for health, hygiene and noise reasons.
Clean room & comfy beds but quite noisy, can hear other guests in the corridor & pipes banging were noisy.
All the staff were welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was run so well we enjoyed our stay
We had a nice stay
Room and building a little tired.
It was an ok cheap break but then having to pay £20 per night for the dog (I get it to a point but nothing extra for them)but I didn’t know I had to pay for parking at the hotel, £6 per night but if you ate a meal at the bar that was closed it was free. So a cheap two night get away really wasn’t.
Bed had springs that were broken, big cracks up the walls, didn’t seem clean really at all
Large building with age, great position and character. Staff were very pleasant. The small single room has clean fresh towels & bedding, shower was good. But, the carpet was dirty and is worn bare in parts. I Didn’t want to walk on it in bare feet. The radiator control knob was filthy with matted dirt. The heated towel rail had loose wires coming out & a burned discolour so I was frightened to use it. The bathroom door was bashed & paint off in parts. The wallpaper is starting to come away. For the price, the room should be in better condition. The carpet is too dirty to let out the room.
Dissatisfied, door in the room badly fitted, bathroom door didn't shut properly, the vent in shower room was not very clean. Room says delux but I'd say it was far from that. Badly needs a refurbish.
Unwelcoming staff, room smelt damp possibly a room where they allow dogs to stay, bathroom door didnt shut properly mould on curtains, pictures of rooms very deceiving looks nice but was not worth the money. I am sure they have nice rooms, on good note Hotel in prime location to walk to shops and restaurants.
.
The hotel provided the facilities that we required for our stay. On the negative side, we felt the interior could do with some refurbishment, although we noticed that some work was in progress.
A charming hotel!
Great location.value for money Staff is polite.Food is good.
Dated property, beds are hard and lumpy and rooms are small. Floorboards creak loudly so you hear upstairs guests till late at night, didn’t sleep for two days and wouldn’t have stayed the second night, no soap in room, no cups for tea coffee that was supplied, lift only worked less than half he time and was really small, location good to the train station is the only positive.
All good but it would be nice to have a closed room or cupboard to store bags before check in. The loos in main reception were a bit smelly. The bedroom was lovely nicely decorated.. very basic but clean and nice bathroom. Great breakfast
I did not like the staff on booking in I found them abrupt and condescending, The breakfast was fairly good but not appetising. Overall the hotel looked like it needed a good clean and decorating.
The property is in a good location, the rooms are very tired
Best price.
Wouldn’t say exceptional but good value.
No lounging facility.
My room window is not working, which prevents me from sleeping
Clean, modern room, nearby to shops and restaurants. Would stay again.
Perfect location right by the train station and bus stops as we didn’t have a car. Lovely walk right next door which I highly recommend. Hotel is old and a bit worn out but very clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed our stay in a lovely part of the country.
We all had a great time and hope to return soon. The beds were very comfortable
Dated hotel, with dated basic room
The warm & helpful catering team at breakfast made up for the consistently cold, unsmiling, & unwelcoming reception team. One of the RECEPTION team - with disappointing inaccuracy - actually gave me far narrower time-parameters for breakfast than those variously advertised online.
Good location. Decor does need updating but clean and fine for an affordable base from which to explore the Lakes.
Property requires refurd.
The service was good but the place is old looking and feels old when moving round to the floors and the old lift which we could not use because we did not trust it but for price we paid was not worth it and dont think will go back anytime soon
They have the longest hallway I’ve ever seen. Our room needs a good 5 minutes walk from reception. The room itself is pretty old and dusty. We can hear people walking above us with squeaky wood floor sound and window is broken so we can easily hear cars on the road. Convenient location from train station although need to climb up a hill.
Overall very happy with our stay Staff were excellent and cleanliness spot on. Perhaps the hotel needs slightly updating .
Service and Parking were excellent. Room was quite small and very hot.
Lovely stay, rooms are basic but comfortable. Good location, would stay here again
We booked late and weren't guaranteed a ground floor room, we had a beautiful big ground floor room with a lovely view close by to the disabled toilet and disabled ramp at a very good price, Lovely cheerful and very helpful staff.
Friendly reception staff. Tidy room and bathroom . Would stay again.
nothing like advertised the rooms are shabby sink cracked, bath all chipped and the staff are rude
Property was great for our needs and staff were friendly and accommodating
Staff helpful. Facilities were pedestrian but very acceptable for the value. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was adequate although if you wanted maid service it was an extra cost, parking was also charged at £6/night.
Not very impressed with the state of the hotel compared to others. Considering the price for one night and that I thought we were getting a nicer room I was disappointed
Old the shower area was not a adequate my husband couldn’t fit in to use the hand basin The distance between shower and sink was so small My husband had a fall off his mobility scooter outside I asked for some fist aid (plasters ect) not enough supplies to help
And older property that is tired. However, the room was very quiet despite being next to a door and lift. With the window open 6" it was warm and comfortable. Lots of hot water and a very handy but limited (paid) car parking. AND the view over Windermere was FAB!!!!! However, BE CAREFUL when entering and exiting the car parking to the main road - blind corner.
Wonderful views
We have stayed before and enjoyed it .
Had a pleasant stay
Very comfortable rooms, friendly co-operative staff and an excellent breakfast. Pity about the loud music being played in the room next door before I left for dinner, and the loud voices from the same room as I was going to sleep later..
Great central location Reasonable price and good staff
Our room was pretty clean, the hotel is next to the train station which is really nice, when we got to our room the first night we had realized that the bed was broken, we had an awful first night. but the next day we had talked to the front desk and they sent a handyman to repair it. the bed are extremely hard.
Ok
Very basic and in need of some improvements. Staff not very welcoming or engaging.
The door to room 35 was dirty with a sign on the door saying ‘Mind the step’ only to find three steps going down into the room. The curtains had what appeared to be blood smears on them. The shower mat/towel looked like it had human excrement on it despite it being neatly folded. Also not happy having to pay car parking fees in the hotel car park. Won’t be using this hotel again.☹️
No restaurant open on arrival at 7pm in hotel for evening meal but Bistro next door is attached. Food was good and hot! Breakfast was buffet with good plentiful selection of cooked, cereal, juices, etc. Beds very comfortable, quiet room, super shower. Car park was cincession £6 per night, difficult to get out safely due to exit being on a steep bend. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
The hotel needs a lot of work to it as it looks old and run down .For how much you pay i would expect alot better. And having to pay to park your car on the hotel property that's not right .
Noisy. Dirty bathroom
Just a few blips when we got there but was sorted right away. Overpriced for the room we had but clean, and comfortable bed.
Room ok but toilet in room 111 very small, shoulders touched wall and shower when sitting on toolet
Basic room with my partner and my dog. There was drilling taking place early each morning and then moving furniture from another room. Both of which disturbed my dog. The room was cost effective and fine for what we paid for
Mattress could of been more softer and could of done with a mini fridge in the room and flooring was really squeaky and apart from that I had a really good stay good food choices in the restaurant next door and drinks close to local shops and restaurants and train stations right opposite hotel which is a bonus
The hotel looks magnificent from outside but inside is quite shabby. Rails in the shower rusty and some taped over, a bit old and worn-out, corridors smell of chlorine, bathroom doors don't close without a strong lift and push. On the plus side, it was clean, our twin room was quite spacious, and since we spent most of our time outside, the shabbiness didn't matter that much.
Booked a superior room and when i got to the room it wasnt a superior room and i thought it was very poor!!!
Excellent hotel .everyone was very efficient
Friendly staff
Clean.
If you’re just looking for a bed and a shower, it’s fine. We stayed in the outbuilding and we found stains over the carpet; dirty floors, bathroom, walls and doors; curtains full of holes; outdated furniture, and the whole building full of damp. The staff were not knowledgeable at all. Everything was quite laughable.
Property is very dated. Needs a lot of decorating and upkeep. Rooms are very warm with limited options to open the window. Check in only starts at 3pm, even if your room might be ready, so long queue. Check out is 10am, so very early. No where secure to leave luggage, you leave it in a seating area used by the public. Certain staff could do with some customer service training and smile and be more friendly. Have to pay for parking at £6 a day, even if you stay at the hotel. Very close to the station and supermarket. Down the road from some local.pubs and nice eateries.
Great staff
We paid £65 for a cosy room and for the price it is okay but wouldn't want to pay anymore. Walls and doors are thin so can hear every door slam and people talking. Shower wouldn't drain. Other than that is a good place for a one night stay and easy access to outside
Nice location, large showers, and bed was comfortable. But the light switch next to the bedside didnt work, and there were screws coming out. Towel radiator didnt work to dry my towels. Staff weren't welcoming, and poor communication between hotel and restaurant, because they didn't know I had booked.
Love visiting the lakes
Great location, excellent service, will stay again. Thankyou so much.
Walkable to everything
It's in a perfect location right in the village. The lobby was nice and staff were friendly. The rooms are ok but could definitely use some upgrades. Mattresses were old, there were nearly no plugs, and we had two beetles in the room. Also, you have to pay for parking which feels like a bit of a scam.
Really uncomfortable and hard to get a restful nights sleep
The lift was out of order for the whole weekend. Should have been seen too. Breakfasts were very good.
Hi, I was satisfied with my stay. I booked a superior room with en suite. I could choose to do pre-check in electronic and all I needed to do at check in was sign and collect my room key. The room didn’t have a latch, so I didn’t feel very secure. It was clean. There was a coffee/tea tray. Hand soap and shampoo. However no iron or hair dryer. The location is good, 5 minutes walk to Windermere train station and 20 minutes walk to Bowness. There are plenty of good food options 5 minute walk away. Staff were not very chatty, but efficient so no fault. There is no secure luggage storage if arriving before check in. However you are free to leave bags without valuables in designated area.
Older style hotel in central location. Friendly helpful staff. Basic but clean room.
An old hotel and it showed not very clean at all. Paid for a cooked breakfast and couldn’t eat most of it as it was tasteless and greasy. Defo NOT staying here again
Was told that the lift was broken when arrived, i was put on 2nd floor even though i said i had disabilities. No offer to take bags up or any alternative.
Reception was excellent and helpful 24 dinning room staff on the ball no delays between courses bar prices were reasonable for area bedroom was well for amenities and free wi fi car park was really good just £6 a night and discounted for day time ie arrive sunday leave tuesday was just £12 would well recommend it if in that area brilliant.
The hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable
The stay was pleasant although there were concerns. Our room had "hidden step"between bathroom and bedroom, it should be highlighted with hi viz reflective tape. The food was nice, the staff were very helpful. The views are lovely, not happy with having to pay £6.00 per day for parking having paid to stay there anyway. We're registered disabled how ever the disabled sign was barely visible??? We would return though.
Really lovely stay. Loved the high ceiling in the bedroom and the fantastic view of Windermere even from the ground floor. Tea/coffee making facilities. Very helpful friendly staff, great location and so easy to use. Would highly recommend and definitely stay again. Could do with more pegs/shelves in bathroom.
Room on top floor. Lift was working. Twin room, room was a bit tired and could do with redecoration. Facilities were fine, tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was good, traditional or other available. Dinner was in the annexed bar. Food included in my hotel price and was very good. Good selection. Parking was available at a charge of 6 ounds per day.
