Excelllent stay

During the first week of August, our group has business trip to Kunming, Yunnan. So, we decided to choose Sofitel Kunming as we see them as one of the most competitive price among the Luxury Hotel in the city. There are many positive part about this hotel. First is the price. Second is the location. It may not located at the shopping district (it took around 20 minutes to the City Center due to heavy traffic in Kunming). Still, the hotel is in a convenient location. If you have car, it is not that hard to travel around. Now, the hotel atmosphere is excellent. Nice decoration and spacious lobby. However, the seatings around the lobby are limited. But we can move to the bar close to the elevator for welcome drinks and having proper group meeting. But we later found out that each floor has beautiful seating with city view. It is more suitable for a small team meeting. The only downside is the we did not get assigned on the same floor. So, it is not very much use for us. Moving to the room, I have been assigned to room 3720 and two of my colleagues are on the same floor. Meanwhile, other members of my team got assigned to 34,35, 43 floors respectively. The funny part is that the reception tried to upgrade me (as Accor member) to club floor (43 floors) but somehow ended up getting the twin room of our booking to that floor. Irony enough, I ended up on 36 floor (single king size room), while both of my secretaries ended up getting upgraded instead. Having said that I am still satisfied with their attempt to accommodate me with upgrading (even they got the wrong room to be upgrade, at least my secretaries can enjoy the club lounge while they are free). For the room, I really like the design. My room can see the Kunming City. The room is nicely decorated. The bed is large and the pillows are comfortable. The working desk is perfect for me to use for preparing necessary documents for the meeting. The WiFi is good. The amenities are well prepared. Also using environmental friendly materials are one of the best features. I really like the shower area. Nicely designed and the water pressure and temperature control are excellent. The room service staffs on my floor are lovely and very attentive. I asked for more drinking water and throughout my stay (4 days), she never forget to added a few extra bottles to my room. Despite all of the positive things about the room, our group found one problem (all member on 37 floors) is the temperature control of the air conditioning. Despite the air conditioning is working very well. The temperature seems unable to be change. One of the night of our stay, has heavy and humid rain. The room temperature rose due to the humidity. I woke up 3 times that night and tried to adjust the room temperature to 18-20 for colder sleep. The temperature was stuck and unable to change. So, me and most of my team members have the same problem. That night none of us can sleep peacefully throughout the night. I suggest the hotel may need to look into that problem. Another part is the breakfast, the restaurant located on 49 floors with magnificent Panasonic view of the Kunming City. The restaurant set up is beautiful. The waiters and waitresses are polite and attentive. But there are so many downside in the breakfast. I have to admit that if I haven’t book the breakfast and did not experience the breakfast service, I may raised the score of this hotel to full 5 stars. I deducted 1 star from the breakfast section alone. First is the meal selection. The lack of meat section is clear. Most of the meal selections are vegetarian especially the Chinese food. But I respected that the Yunnan is known for mushrooms and vegetables. So, I moved to internal meal selection. The problems are as follows. The bread selections are limited. The muffin is ok but croissants are too dried. The breads are too dried as well. The jam selections are excellent but lack of cheese choices and the butter are limited. The quality of meat in the sausages are disappointing. The chicken is ok but the pork is too salty and tough. The chicken breast is too greasy. The pumpkin and tomatoes are fresh and good. Now the most disappointing is the egg station. The station is mixed with other grilled selection. The fried eggs are overcooked. If you want sunny up fried eggs or scramble eggs, you have to ask them to do it. Also, no choice for the omelette ingredients. Throughout our stays, the second day was the worst as they are overcrowded. The sausages have ran out and no filling up. The overcooked fried eggs are gone. So, I went to ask for sunny up fried eggs and omelette BUT the staffs asked me to come back as the cooks are busy cooking fried tomatoes (which is not running out). That morning, I have to go to the city for meeting. So, I ended up having fried pumpkin, fried tomatoes with overly dried croissant. It is probably the worst hotel breakfast that I ever have from even 2 stars hotel. If I wrote review on that day, I may be angry enough to downgrade the hotel to 2 or 3 stars due to the denial of egg station services. Luckily, the house keepers who did not forget to clean my room nicely and did not forget about extra water save the day for Sofitel Kunming. If there is no improvement in the section, my honest recommendation is to avoid hotel breakfast option. Even Ibis hotel by Auckland Airport cooked better breakfast than Sofitel Kunming. I hope my criticism would be taken considerably. So, the breakfast selection at this hotel can be improve to the same standard with other Sofitel in China east coast.
The warm hospitality, positive attitude, and attention to detail truly made us feel welcomed and well looked after. Thank you for the outstanding service and for making our experience at the Sofitel Lounge so enjoyable! We had a wonderful experience at the Sofitel Lounge, thanks to the excellent service from one of the lounge staff members. The staff member was very friendly, attentive, and professional, always welcoming us with a warm smile and a genuine willingness to help.
I usually stay at Sofitel whenever I travel because I know what to expect. The service is usually very consistent, but every now and then a property really stands out. Sofitel Kunming was one of those. The lobby was the first thing that blew me away. The ceiling must be four or five stories high, with a huge red sculpture rising from the floor all the way to the ceiling before stretching across to the other side of the building. It’s hard to describe, but it gives the whole place a really grand feeling. There’s also a nice indoor swimming pool. The room isn’t the newest in terms of design, especially the wooden wall décor, but it’s very well maintained. The marble flooring at the entrance and the marble floor and walls in the bathroom still make it feel luxurious. One thing I really appreciated was the staff. Most of them could speak English, or at least understood enough for simple conversations. It made everything a lot easier, from check-in to asking a few questions during my stay. I also liked the Lanvin bathroom amenities. Nice little touch for a French hotel brand. I was lucky enough to get a complimentary upgrade to the 39th floor. The view isn’t spectacular, but it’s still nice seeing Kunming from that height, especially at night. Breakfast is served on the 49th floor, and the view alone is worth getting up for. The buffet is huge, with the stations laid out in a big circle that almost wraps around the whole restaurant. There was plenty of food, but the selection leaned heavily towards Chinese dishes. I would’ve liked a few more Western options, especially an egg station and bacon. Nothing deal-breaking though. Sofitel is usually my first choice when I travel, so I probably judge it a bit more harshly than other hotels. Overall, this is a luxurious hotel even though it’s not right in the city center. The impressive lobby, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and reliable Sofitel experience made it a really enjoyable stay. I’d happily stay here again if I’m back in Kunming.
We recently stayed at this luxurious hotel with our family, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our room was large and incredibly spacious, giving everyone plenty of room to relax and feel comfortable. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered an excellent view of the city, especially beautiful in the evening when the skyline lit up. The bathroom was also impressively large, spotless, and very well designed. Everything felt clean, modern, and comfortable, which made it easy to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. Breakfast each morning was elaborate and offered a wide variety of options, although vegetarian and western food options were limited. What truly made our stay special, though, was the staff. They were consistently friendly, attentive, and professional. They went out of their way to help us book a city tour, making the entire process smooth and stress-free. Overall, we had a fantastic family stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, luxury, and exceptional service.
Very well appointed luxury hotel excellent staff huge breakfast great range of excellent food - very fresh food excellent kitchen
arrived 15minutes before restaurant shut, so a rushed service with average quality food
We were on 38th floor and the view was amazing. Even if you had a lower floor, breakfast at 49th floor was just unreal. Service is perfect. They say yes to every reasonable request we made, and extremely efficient.
Nothing. It was perfect
This is a follow up to my preliminary review written on 11th June, the second day of my 9D8N stay, which has since been removed to allow for this detailed review. As an Accor Platinum member, my room was upgraded to Club Floor level, with additional room benefits. My other family member, also a Platinum member, also enjoyed a similar upgrade. As stated in my previous review, we had a very pleasant check in experience, As a matter of fact, my positive experience with Sofitel Kunming started even before arrival, when I got in contact with Mr Lemon Ji re our rooms arrangement requests. Lemon responded promptly in a positive manner and even accommodated our very late changes subsequent to our initial request. As we were eligible for Executive Lounge access, most of our requests for assistance and services were channelled through the lounge team members, like Gary, Larnes, and Nian, who were always friendly and serve with enthusiasm. Having said that, I must add that the hotel front desk is always well-staffed and all staff members were efficient and friendly during our brief encounters. We had breakfasts daily at the L49 restaurant and were always greeted cheerfully by a trainee/intern in the name of Olivia. I am sure she will have a great future in the hospitality industry. The dish offerings in my opinion were geared towards local tastes and options. Unfortunately I had not been able to sample enough premium western/international dishes to push me over for a lunch/dinner international buffet as first contemplated. In terms of dining experience, we were really impressed with the food options and services at Le Chinois, on which I have submitted a separate review. I would also like to make a special mention of the unsung heroes - the housekeeping team. I believe they work as a team so it may not be fair to quote just a few names. However, both I and my family member in another room of the same floor were very impressed with the quality and promptness in housekeeping services and responses. As for the lounge experience, it certainly serves well as an oasis, with its comfortable seatings and gorgeous view, for relaxing and unwinding after venturing out sightseeing. However, it would help to elevate the lounge standard (and properly reflects the hotel's 5-star status) with the offering of some premium (rather than the most basic) drink choices. I had been declined a request for a Chamomile tea during the afternoon tea session, which was quite disappointing. Also, the dish offerings during the happy hour sessions also got a bit repetitious after a few days. I hope the hotel management will empower its lounge service team to go beyond the pre-set scope (of standard offerings) to accommodate reasonable requests from its guests (elite or otherwise).
Good ambience, good breakfast & good service from hotel staffs.
Good experience stay at Sofitel & free room upgrade service & value of money!
The atmosphere is great, the staff are lovely. Ning Sun and Lermes Qiu are very friendly. Highly recommended.
I had a truly wonderful stay at Sofitel Kunming. The hotel is elegant, comfortable, and offers a perfect blend of luxury and local culture. My room was spacious, well-maintained, and provided a beautiful view of the city. What made my stay especially memorable was the outstanding service from the staff. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Ning and Larmes for their exceptional hospitality. They were professional, attentive, and always ready to assist with a warm smile. I was particularly impressed that Ning could speak Thai, which made communication very easy and comfortable for me as a Thai guest. Her friendliness, patience, and willingness to help made me feel truly welcomed throughout my stay. The breakfast was excellent with a great variety of international and local dishes, and the Executive Lounge provided a relaxing atmosphere with excellent service. The hotel's location is also very convenient for both business and leisure travelers. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations, and I highly recommend Sofitel Kunming to anyone visiting Kunming. A special thank you to Ning and Larmes for making my stay so enjoyable and memorable. I look forward to returning to Sofitel Kunming in the future.
It’s an exceptional experience checking in and staying at Sofitel Kunming. Front desk And bell boy services were superb and welcoming. All interactions with front desk staff and those at the Executive Lounge were so pleasant and delightful. Enquiries and requests were all met with great enthusiasm. Look forward to a continued happy stay in the next few days.

A stylish hotel backed up by substance (excellent service etc.) is always a pleasure to behold. Thanks to Amy (reception) and Pony (concierge) and the rest of the team for their exceptional hospitality. Had the most comfortable sleep and mattress here in Sofitel in all of my 21-day trip in Yunnan, having stayed at Four Points, Pullman, IHG. Breakfast is one of the most extensive I've had in a hotel of this category. An improvement for breakfast would be for the small pot noodle - to be fully cooked for better taste instead of have the guest add the condiments themselves. Foodies who want recommendations, Pony is the person to ask. He lives in the area. Would return to Sofitel Kunming.
酒店豪华,干净,服务周到,真心对待顾客。wentoutofthewaytohelpmemakebookingsandprovidemeticulousservicetocatertofamilymembers.远看服务好,近看服务好,服务果然好,果然服务好!willcomebacktostayagain. Amazing services, good for family and couples. The lounge is good, with free flow alcohol. 食物因有尽有,美味,服务员贴心周到
Ambience and decoration was great, along with very good service. Visited the executive lounge and service was great too :)
Exceptional service, comfortable room, breakfast spread has great variety. Heidi the on-duty manager was very helpful.

This was my first stay at Sofitel Kunming and overall the experience was very pleasant. Although the hotel has been operating for some years and some facilities are not brand new, everything was very clean and well maintained, which did not affect the stay experience at all. Special thanks to Amy at the front desk for her warm and thoughtful service. She handled the check-in process efficiently and patiently, and was always quick to help with any requests. Her attentive service truly made the stay memorable. The breakfast was also excellent, with a wide variety of Chinese and Western dishes, desserts, and fresh fruits. The food quality was great and there were plenty of choices. Overall, the hotel offers very good value for money and the service left a strong impression on me.
Some of the facilities and room furnishings show signs of age and are not the newest compared to recently opened luxury hotels, but everything was kept clean and comfortable.
Excellent hôtel À réal 5 stars ! Thé service is amazing especially from Olivia
Breakfast is a spread of continental breakfast but it is mainly focused on chinese dishes. The egg station is quite hidden and requires poking and asking for it.
Lack of bidet, super inconvenient if you are used to one;
Everything was good, but my deposit has not been returned yet. Please check and process the refund as soon as possible.
Although the decor is a bit dated in today’s standard, the details, materials and efforts to deliver an exquisite hotel experience (marble shower room in a circular shape, curved wooden wall facade etc)are getting hard to see in today’s ROI prioritised world.
Room was comfortable and spacious. Great gym and spa area. Extensive buffet selection. Staff friendly and helpful. Location has easy to access metro.
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at — we received an upgraded room and a lovely dinner lounge.
Room was big and comfortable. There were adequate amenities too. Staff were friendly and helpful. Metro station is also only 10 min walk away.
Nothing
My stay was great. Room was clean. The view very pretty. breakfast was fresh and yummy. I would like to thank Amy and James at the front office who was giving wonderful service making my last night at Yunnan truly peaceful.
Receptionist and guards are polite and helpful
The breakfast is like local street food and local dishes for three stars local hotel , did not meet the standard of international four stars hotel breakfast standard . The waiters for breakfast do not seem to have proper training . I was leaded to a table and when I return with food , my table was taken by somebody else . Disgusting ! And I did not return to the restaurant for breakfast again during my entire staying
Impressive ,overall I love it
Hospitality of the concierge are snoop help me lots with transport my luggage to dali. I was very sick he help me managed it well. Lounge people also very kind give me lemon of honey when they saw me I was not feeling well. My cold was turn very bad. Room is goo not as clean as 5/5 but 4/5 kinda of things room size also big. Breakfast also have many varieties
Thanks to receptionist ,Jessica who help us for replacement of.shopping cloth.
Sofitel brand as always the best and never make me disappointed. Most hotels breakfast wouldn’t be located on top of the building (49 floors). This is highlighted in Kunming.

Good food , good service, best value
I had a wonderful stay at Sofitel Kunming. The hotel offers stunning views of the city and the rooms are elegant, comfortable, clean and very quiet. The staff were professional and welcoming throughout my stay. One of the highlights was definitely the food. The restaurants offer a great variety of high-quality dishes, and every meal I tried was delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast had many options, both international and local. Access to the Club lounge was also a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was relaxing, with great views, attentive service, and a nice selection of drinks and snacks during the day and evening. Great value! Overall, Sofitel Kunming combines luxury, great dining, and excellent service. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kunming, even for its proximity to the main train station.
The room is huge and the view is fabulous.
The location is off from the city center and it was little pricy.
In February, my husband and I visited Kunming for the first time, and our stay at the Sofitel Kunming left us thoroughly impressed. From the moment we arrived, the hotel exceeded every expectation, blending modern luxury with genuine warmth in a way that felt truly special. The property itself is stunning – the beautifully landscaped gardens, elegant lobby, spacious rooms, good breakfast buffet, and sophisticated dining areas all feel contemporary, airy, and impeccably designed. Everything is thoughtfully appointed, creating an atmosphere of refined comfort throughout. What made our experience even more memorable were the little touches of care. An adorable delivery robot brought items to our room twice – a fun and efficient surprise that delighted us. On our first day, after arriving feeling a bit under the weather from the cold, the kitchen staff kindly sent a warming bowl of ginger tea to our room. It was such a thoughtful gesture that instantly made us feel looked after. Above all, the staff were the heart of this hotel. Everyone – from the front desk and concierge to the doormen and kitchen team – was genuinely kind, attentive, and eager to help. Having lived in the U.S. for over 30 years, we weren’t very familiar with the local area and relied on their assistance for everything from shopping , sightseeing recommendations and directions to setting up rides on the DiDi app. They went above and beyond every time, with patience and warmth. I especially want to recognize a few standout team members: the gracious and beautiful front desk agent Su Rui, her colleague Elina, and the tall, handsome doorman Mr. Ma. (I regret not catching the name of another wonderful young doorman who was equally helpful.) Their sincere friendliness made us feel like valued guests rather than just visitors. For context, we had stayed at the Grand Hyatt Taipei a month earlier – another excellent 5-star property. Yet, when comparing the two, Sofitel Kunming clearly stood out as the superior experience, from the superior room quality and amenities to the outstanding service and breakfast selection. This stay has firmly placed the Sofitel brand at the top of our list for future travels. We can’t recommend Sofitel Kunming highly enough – it’s a standout luxury hotel that delivers heartfelt hospitality alongside beautiful facilities. We’ll definitely return!
Almost everything. Reception staff went out of their way to help us with booking train tickets. Excellent buffet breakfast, though a bit expensive.
For a large international hotel, very few staff spoke English. My Chinese is very limited. This led to one breakfast selection being incorrectly delivered to our room. The hotel did kindly withdraw the cost of that meal but I was still disappointed not to receive my breakfast of choice.
Our short stay at the Sofitel Kunming was outstanding. The room was well appointed and the views of the city were breathtaking. I found that service was exceptional. James, the Chief Concierge, was the best! Prior to my stay, he kept in constant contact with me for the various activities I was interested in. He arranged a car to pick me up at the train station and provided the best English speaking tour guide named Pony. Pony guided us throughout the city and made sure we ate some of the local cuisine. I highly recommend this hotel when visiting Kunming.
I would like to thank James and his concierge team. They went above and beyond to help us. We had been travelling China for 6 weeks and had sent a bag to Novotel Kunming in anticipation for our last stop in China. Our plans changed slightly and we decided to stay at the Sofitel Kunming. James and his team took charge to contact the Novotel and locate the bag and send it to our room. This was a difficult challenge, as we later found out SFExpress only put the first two letters of my name on the luggage tag! As we had quite a few luggage’s, James and his team also helped to bring our bags down at checkout and load them into the car for us, it was a really great service from the concierge team! The hotel itself, we stayed in a twin room. The room is very large with a great rain shower and bathtub. The Toilet is seperate with its own door, which I like when travelling with someone else. The temperature in the room was a little warm for my liking, but it seems to be common in Chinese hotels during winter. The windows on the lower floors could be opened which provided some relief, and the team provided a fan, but the room stayed a consistent 23 deg Celsius even with the aircon/heater turned off. Ironically, the hallway was actually colder so we would sometimes leave the door open to let in the cooler air. We only stayed 2 nights so it was acceptable but would be good if the hotel management can look into it. 23 degree Celsius for sleeping temperature for more foreigner is too high. And individually controlled system would be better so each guest can choose what is the comfortable temperature for them. Some people run hot (medical conditions, menopause etc) and just need a cooler room.

My stay was truly wonderful. The comfortable and thoughtfully designed accommodation, with its convenient facilities, made the entire experience effortless and relaxing. The bellhop greeted us with genuine warmth and professionalism, handling our luggage and belongings with ease. At breakfast, the attentive waitress, Nancy Wang, anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, ensuring that our morning began on a perfect note. The breakfast spread offered a wide variety of delicious options. I truly appreciated the clear dietary and allergen-friendly selections, which made choosing meals both safe and enjoyable. Overall, this stay exceeded our expectations in every way. We highly recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, great service, and thoughtful hospitality.
We love the hotel, NOT the air-conditioning system. Our stay was from 1st to 7th Dec 2025. Things were nicely arranged at this 5-star hotel. However, comfort plays the most important role when it comes to creating a memorable stay. Expectations are high for our stay as it was also to celebrate the wedding anniversary. The positives go to good and quality services provided by reception, and F & B staff. The Managers lead by example. It makes a big difference when we check in, and different restaurants whether for breakfast or dinner. The main issue is the aged ventilation or air conditioning system which has totally spoilt our trip. I should have taken feedback from fellow travelers or folks who stayed here before seriously regarding this issue. My good impression on Accor group properties has taken a toll from now on having stayed at different brands of properties across Asia Pacific over the years. It does not mean previous stays do not have any issues, but not as serious or bad as this. Room assigned has been upgraded to Elite 38th floor. From the 1st night, it's clear that ventilation is having an issue. And the previous guest has opened the bathroom window despite the hotel’s gentle reminder not to do so. When checked temperature display at the thermostat, it showed 25.5 to 26.0 degrees Celsius. No matter how I adjusted it, it just stayed there and continued till the 2nd night. I had contacted the guest service which gotten “an experienced technician” which his suggestion is more on patronizing instead of solving the problem He does not think it’s an issue and not knowing people like me who have basic project management experience (at work). He asked us to consider changing rooms. It’s unbearable and affects our sleep. My wife and I started feeling unwell on the 3rd day onwards due to poor sleep quality caused by the warm temperature in the room. I spoke to the management staff at reception who assisted me before the stay and assured me it would not be an issue. He could have been upfront earlier or hinted even if opening the window may not significantly help in resolving the situation. Hoteliers need to know that not every customer wants to change rooms if things have been done right from the beginning. When you are on a week’s trip, the idea of changing rooms, and not sure if it will work or not, is not funny at all. During our discussion, I requested to have another Panasonic air purifier which helped the situation a bit. Air conditioning needs to always be on, and the housekeeping has been diligently open the window near the worktable. It continued until the day we checked out. Imagine the room is stuffy and warm, how can it not affect the sleep quality? We were in Japan, Korea or Taiwan almost yearly during winter period or like in Kunming. Day 6. We noticed the hotel maintenance team could have done something to the air conditioning when we were out. I contacted the guest service again. This time, a polite technician has explained that when temperature reaches a certain degree Celsius, the warm air or heater function will be on, and can’t be adjusted. I adjusted the thermostat temperature to 23 degrees Celsius, the display shown “heat”. When I turned it down further to 21 degrees Celsius, “cool” was displayed. However, after a few adjustments, the error message is out. The problem is still there. We checked out the next day and will not return.
Camera spaziosa ben organizzata e pulita. Ricevuto upgrade gratuito molto gradito. Letti comodissimi. Vista fantastica dalla sala colazione al 49° piano. Colazione super! Assolutamente consigliato.
We love Sofitel Kunming. The staff are warm and friendly. They have a lovely attitude towards their guests. The room, breakfast and Club Millesime Floor are amazing The sunset views are gorgeous . The free standing bath was so luxurious with bath bombs and bath salts. They even held our luggage (large bags) to enable us to travel through China on the fast trains for three weeks. If we return to China in the future this will be our pick. It's simply the best experience we have had on our four month trip. We will be sad to leave.
Excellent design and view
Location is close to the train station
Beds were too soft
Apparently it’s the highest building in the city, and view is great. Location is great, steps away from the metro station.
The brand is right, the hotel a little less so. It used to be a "luxury hotel" (for its time), but now it's an "old lady" that deserves a renovation. The so-called "club floor suites" are small, uncomfortable, and with outdated furnishings: only a junior suites. No more. On the "non-club" floors, the suites are renovated, spacious, and refurbished. The Club Millesime is spacious and has a splendid view of the lake. The food is quite good but in limited quantities (not replenished). The wines are Chinese, and the cocktails are watered down by too much ice (even when the ice should be limited: e.g., dry Martinis).
My fiends stayed at their room had no hot water. They were put into a room that was not used. Moist with mildew type atmosphere. That room had issues and repairs were done at 2 am. Breakfast was far less than expected, no cheese and far too oily foods! Never again!!!!!!
Dommage...
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful hospitality and excellent service we received during our stay. Every member of the team was kind, professional, and attentive, making our time here truly special, specially to Joyce Wen and her team in Club Millesime. Thank you again for your help. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for all the small details that made our visit unforgettable. We will cherish the memories and hope to return in the future
Great 5 stars hotel. Very stylish and great views. We have access to the executive Lounge and we want to specially thank Joyce Wen and her team. They are helping us to feel like at home with our little needs. Excellent work and Support by Mrs Joyce.
I enjoyed it very much staying here
We checked in Hotel with an infant. our family enjoyed our stay very much. not because the Hotel is new. is because the service is top.. Reception Ms Suri Su has been excellent. She was very calm despite busy. made efforts to fulfil our needs. she remembered our needs after our return from Dali. fantastic! Club lounge Manager Ms Joyce was amazing. we require our infant breast milk to be frozen, she went all out to help us find a freeze in the Hotel to be properly stored. Thank you ladies.♡
We only stayed here for 2 nights. I have nothing to complain about for the hotel, it met all of my expectations. Check-in was very friendly, I forgot the name of the young lady who checked us in but she was the sweetest. The hotel’s location was good, not far from the old town and you definitely can walk there; we didn’t just because a taxi was cheap and we didn’t have a lot of time. The hotel design was bold, from the lobby to the room, a bit over the top. The bathroom design was one of a kind, the shower had a floor to ceiling window but it had a curtain. The breakfast was served at the club lounge because the main restaurant was under renovation. The selection was quite small, and service staff needed some improvement compared to the front desk. All in all, I would recommend the hotel to others.
Really nice hotel for the price. Spacious room with nice view. 30mins walk to Nanping St for food and shopping. Only drawback that the hotel allows smoking.it has a strong smoke smell in hallway even on a nonsmoking floor.
Good location, near MTR station. Nice and helpful staff. Room is clean and large, comfortable sleep.
Very nice view to the city at night time. Bathroom is spacious with beautiful bathtub. I was impressed by Lanvin bath collection and Versace Medusa head decoration at lift floor. Door has camera to replace for cat eye. Staffs are very helpful.
Big deception. In three weeks I've spent time in 4 different hotels in Kunming and I didn't enjoy my stay at the Sofitel mainly for the following reasons: The hotel looks old, very old fashioned. You can see here and there some damages on the desk, bathroom, communal parts etc. It's not due to a lack of maintenance it's just old. The global atmosphere is quiet cold and gloomy. One evening I paid more than 300yuan at the 49 floor for a big dinner alone at the buffet and the food was not worth this price at all. The main thing that pissed me off is that during the checkout I've been noticed to pay more than 100yuan more than the initial price they told me. I was really surprised and asked for explanations. They told me that I used the minibar but I didn't ! After a few minutes of discussion I realise that they make me pay for the bottles of water ! I stayed 3 nights, I must have used maybe 3 or 4 small bottles that cost 2 yuan in any convenience store and they bill me 102 yuan ! In addition to that nobody noticed me that the bottles were not free, they were displayed in the room not in the minibar. These three weeks I have been to the following hotels in Kunming : Grand Hyatt, JEN by Shangri-La and Holidays Inn. All of them have free water in the room ! Considering that you can't drink tap water I think it's a real shame to charge the customers a high price for that basic need. I will not go back to this hotel, if you're looking for a luxurious place to stay I strongly recommend to prefer the Grand Hyatt, it's better on every aspect. Positive point though is that the staff is friendly I don't have any complain about that.
Good property with great hospitality & awesome views of Kunming skyline. Staff are very helpful & ready to serve you. Best part is most of the front desk staff speak fluent English. Location wise also quite close to the major tourist attractions. We also enjoyed their breakfast spread, especially their Yunan style noodles.
nice room
A bit pricy for hotel transport
I just visited the sofitel at yesterday. As the diamond member I can access the club lounge. The lounge at 48th floor, you can enjoy your afternoon tea and happy hour with the very nice view. In the lounge also has the daily cocktail. The stuff in club lounge the staff were very polite, particularly Mrs. Joyce give me the extraordinary experience during my stay. I'm sure I will come back.
Our one-day stay was short, but a good one always, all ways... Especially the seamless check-in/out process. Thank you.
Sofitel Kunming, this is the best choice in town. Staff is very helpful. Sorry that I couldn't remember their name but all of their services are in my memory. Location is just 10 minutes by Taxi from Old Town and Railway Station. There is a nearby Metro in walkable distance.
Stayed at the Club Room and the service at the club lounge was impeccable with very good food and drinks selection. I was even advised where to get the best sunset shots. The breakfast spread was huge and the view was excellent. Room was big and roomy and clean.
Nothing
This is a gorgeous 50 story hotel with beautiful, spacious rooms and lovely restaurants with great views. We were here in late October when the temperature was around it 25d C and the air conditioning was off already. Despite a manager moving us to a room where he swore the a/c was working, it wasn't and we had miserable nights of sleep.
Stayed in a club room and it is big and spacious and the bed is comfy too. The view is breathtaking at level 40. The service at the club was top notch with a good list of drinks and food was fresh and delicious.
This hotel is very modern, and very big. The location is so-so with metro available on walking distance. The club lounge is very nice with very nice cocktails and good views. Now the less good points: Airconditioning didn't seem to work optimally. I had to change rooms after one night because my room would not cool under 25 degrees Celsius. This is unacceptable. The new room didn't go under 21 but I guess I had to live with this. Same AC issue raised at the gym, which made it more like a sauna. Another worrying point is that almost no one from the staff spoke English. Even in the club lounge. I mean come on, this is a sofitel from accor! Third annoying thing is that the points credited to accor didn't happen within a week and had to be manually requested. This sucks because these were my last nights before being platinum and this meant instead of actually being platinum in my next stay I was still gold. All in all I am not sure if I would recommend this hotel.
The room is very spacious, nice design and very comfortable. Upon check in notice that the minibar has a very strong durian smell. I reported it on the second day and it was being replaced timely. Special mentioned to Jessica from the front desk who assisted me with the check in. She professionally completed the check in and assigned me with a nice room. In addition, she helped me with some online purchase delivery issues that I had. She offered to call the customer service and made necessary arrangement for the items to be routed to the hotel during my stay. Really appreciated her kind gesture. Also very thankful to Eric from concierge. As I have online purchased items that were kept in the “storage” place about 10 mins walk away from the hotel, he actually walked with my daughter to the place personally instead of just showing the direction. He is courteous and helpful throughout my stay. He greeted us whenever he saw us in the lobby. I had a truly memorable experience on my last destination of my Yunnan trip. Thanks to all the team member whom I met, including the housekeeping staff who kept my room sparkling clean daily.
