Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Exceptional staff in particular the person serving dinner on 18th and breakfast on 19th. Very attentive and incredibly hard working. The food was fantastic too.
Well I'm not really complaining because obviously it's about available space, but bedroom was snug. Having said that it had everything we needed.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing
The staff were pleasant & it was convenient for us to visit our sister in the hospice as well as get to Heathrow afterwards The bed appeared clean. The hotel looked quirky & attractive outside.
The room was exceptionally grubby. There were very dirty curtains, floors, mirrors, doors, bathroom. It stated that there were toiletries, these consisted of a bottle of shampoo/bodywash in the rather grubby shower & another bottle over the washbasin, no sanitary bags, rather old towels that were quite rough. The towels were not too big a problem as the shower was very slippy & no bath mat so was unusable for both of us in separate rooms. The breakfast was edible, the dinner was average. The rooms we had, classic doubles in the new building, were small & extremely hot , fans were supplied. Sadly it was difficult to find anything to recommend it so could not understand why it has 4 *s especially after also staying in another hotel with the same rating that had so much more to recommend it.
The staff go above and beyond here, the location is amazing, so quiet, lovely area.
The reception on arrival was super friendly and the building was really pretty in the heart of a bustling village. We had drinks and a pizza in the garden.
The room was in the oldest part of the building and although comfortable could really have done with a thorough clean and the carpets from reception to it were absolutely worn out and stained. Some friends of our stayed in the newer block behind so check where you are staying.
The staff we're very friendly and helpful . We had a lovely evening meal and the breakfast was very good as well. The room was very clean. We would definitely stay at the Talbot again. All the staff were very good
We had no complaints. Very good accomadation.
Tudo
Colchão muito ruim
The location was good and staff quite pleasant. Breakfast was buffet, cooked was hot but had sat a long time. Dinner was ok.
Our room in the annex was shown on line as having a garden view. We actually had a view of a hoarding just in front of double height portacabins overlooking us and scaffolding of an active building site a few feet from our window. The carpet was stained, the room dirty and furniture shabby. There was dust everywhere and large cobwebs, with spiders, in the ceiling corners and under / behind the furniture. The shower cubicle base was rusty and dirty. We booked and paid for three nights but only stayed for one. The manager finally agreed to refund one night and half our dinner bill.
Lovely venue and location in the centre
Bed a little uncomfortable
Didn’t have breakfast. Room was tired, bathroom not nice needs updating. Mould all around shower frame, shower tray fills up with water when you shower. Kettle inside disgusting. Should have coffee machine as well. Loads of cobwebs.
Bed comfy.
I had a dog room which was lovely and clean and a nice size room. It’s nice you’re away from the hotel and in the stable block
Nothing. All was good
The character, location.
We were at the back and could hear who I think was staff talking smoking at the back entrance early morning
Good breakfast , comfortable beds , nice sized rooms and friendly staff
Location
Breakfast was low budget food , no staff around and my table was sticky.
Interesting history and got a upgrade to a lovely room
Bit noisy in the morning very busy road but I had to leave early so not a problem
location + easy parking
old style hotel, beautiful building but room should be upgraded/redecorated
Very good value for money
Rekatively minor point: The bacon at the buffet breakfast was overdone and had been out for a while so was thin & stiff
We liked everything the room was nice and quiet the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and the position of the hotel was right on the main street.
Not many parking spaces.
Main building looks impressive. Dining room ok. Pizzas tasty….. but mine was not initially ordered so I had to wait while my wife ate. We were given free desserts. Would rather have had free pizza as I don’t eat dessert!
Room 401 - bathroom very very smelly and damp, shower pipe filthy, damp on walls of shower. Very dark room. Noisy from road all night. Buffet breakfast - limited, fried eggs solid. Expected to be served as we were last time we stayed but obviously cost cutting. Courtyard - smoking in various areas so was unpleasant sitting out.
Good breakfast, quiet room
Nothing really, catered to my needs for a weekend stay
Staff were very helpful and room comfortable and clean
Some of the carpets in the hallways were quite heavily marked
Good location. Breakfast was OK and staff listened to feedback.
Wifi does not work in bedrooms, only in the bar. Only 3 parking spaces for 7 rooms with a small adjacent car park charging 70p per hour 8am - 6pm Mon-Sat up to £5.60 max. Very poor water pressure in an old-fashioned bathroom, taking 20 mins to run a bath. Shower head use over bath was no more than a dribble.
Room was clean and comfortable It was in the older part of the Inn and was quirky with floor level changes and sloping floors
Fijn hotel
Betalende parking voor de hotelgasten
This is such a great traditional inn. The accommidation was lovely.
The fact we only had one night!
Location was perfect in a lovely village, and very close to family we were visiting. Lovely greeting when we arrived, even though she was very busy the lady on reception took her time to make everyone feel welcome and special.
Paying for car parking, but I knew that when I booked.
Pleasant stay room clean and nice will stay again
Good beds, excellent shower, good breakfast. Excellent value for money. Good location.
Breakfast area could do with a thorough clean, shelves very dusty, floor and table bases not very clean. Big glass window corners not cleaned. £10 car park charge.
The breakfast was very good but I was disappointed with the room. The room was not very clean and the bathroom light was hanging down. I think that the establishment should check on people’s ages before they book you into the rooms at the top of the stairs as it would be too much for older people.
The communication between myself and the hotel as I asked for two rooms to be as close as possible as my dad was with me who is 93. Originally he was put at the room at the top of the stairs, which would have been impossible for him to climb, so we had to swap rooms.
Staff seemed genuinely friendly. Bed comfortable and good shower.
View from room not the best, room also room was hot/stuffy. In fairness, hotel had provided a fan.
Excellent value for money and very helpful staff Smiley face icons didn't work!
Quaint old British hotel with lively staff and a good bar and restaurant
It needs some serious attention. It is very tired
Great location. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
Lighting not very good in the corner where the mirror was located for my wife to do her hair.
The breakfast was very good although some things had run out by 9 ish but the cooked breakfast menu was good.
The bathroom had not been properly cleaned - there was mould in the shower compartment and dirt on the tiles by the basin. The 'toiletries' were just a basic shower gel/body wash in the shower and hand wash in the basin - none of the 'usual' shower cap etc. In the bedroom we moved the armchair so that we could both sit on a chair and behind it there was a lot of dust and fluff on the skirting board where that area had not been cleaned for some time. The room was on the ground floor of an annexe and other residents returning to their rooms walked right past the window.
Location was perfect - right in the centre of town. Staff were great. A lovely 13th century pub in the centre of an old market town. We loved it.
We couldn't get wifi in our rooms but this is an old pub so I guess you have to accept that. We were able to go to the bar or garden for wifi.
Proper breakfast and a lovely quality night of sleep.
Nothing.
The property is dated and needs renovating. The continental breakfast is terrible with the sausages being booked to much the skin was hard. The bacon must of been cooked on a radiator. I stay in and around Guildford in a hotel every week and this is the worst place of all.
Warm and welcoming staff at the reception. Everything seemed clean and though through and the place is full of character. The room was quirky with low beams and had the character of an old coaching Inn which it was. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was very tasty. We had a evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent.
The shower was a bit low but that can be forgiven as it is a very old building.
Location
Menu
Food, fast service at check in and how comfortable the rooms were
But warm in a heat wave but it’s an old building and the weather was exceptional
Well located for visiting Wisley which was the main purpose of our stay plus excellent value for money
Nothing really
The Talbot Inn is beautiful, the room was a little dated but clean and comfortable. Check out was at 11am which gave you plenty of time in the morning.
The only thing that was missing was decent decaf coffee- but apart from that everything else was fine.
Location was excellent, nice little town outside of London. Quaint and homey. We were playing golf in the area and this fit our needs pefectly.
Unfortunately, it was quite hot while we were there and there isn't air conditioning, which made it somewhat uncomfortable at night sleeping after the heat built up all day. Fans were available, and if i only had and extension cord to get the fan over to the window to pull in the cool night air, that would have fixed everything.
Staff were lovely
Dirty rooms Extra £10 charge for carpark
The Talbot Inn is in a great position in the middle of Much Wenlock. It's authentically old with a super bar and restaurant serving beautifully cooked food. The b&b accommodation is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We will certainly use it as a stopover place again.
Nothing 👍☺️
The room was lovely and the conservatory
the old inn and being on the high street central for everything and we love the village itself the young staff on the bar they where lovely
beds very hard one had springs sticking in plus a plug is needed by the mirror also did not know bar closed sunday night and monday night but plenty of pubs nearby
Looks inviting and age of property has been preserved in the main building
In the annex part the room was small &furniture shabby I bought a lemon to descale the kettle before considering using it. It was a hot weekend so we decided to sleep with the duvet cover only and the duvet had no protector and was very stained. Neither was there a mattress protector. The bathroom tiles looked fairly new but the shower enclosure was ingrained with limescale and dirt. Mirrors were all dirty. There is obviously no check made by senior management. Having run a B&B for over 10 years I feel justified in pointing this out
Very authentic and cosy
Just to have better fans for the heat the higher up people are staying.
Old coaching inn , so great atmosphere but no lifts. My wife is disabled and lots of steps up to my room. This wasn’t clear in the website which shows modern rooms. Which are in an annexe (and that was full). Paid in excess of £160 for room and evening meal. So expected better. Great location for RHS Wisley (5min drive)
Steps , steps and more steps. The bar literally had no beer (ale) just gassy lagers. Not an enormous choice at dinner time either. Breakfast was much better.
Very nice hotel and location.
It was exceptionally hot weather when we stayed and the hotel was very warm.
Location
Room was very small, in attic, not very clean and definitely in need of urgent upgrade.
The food, the bed, the television
The absence of a proper shower. Sometimes, service was a bit slow. I had to wait a while to check in and place my supper order
As expected the facilities were basic but functional. Breakfast was good and homely.
What I didn't expect was to arrive home with BED BUG bites over my arms and neck. I informed the hotel after the event and they were somewhat apologetic. I later suggested that I should be recompensed for the inconvenience of having to take steroids and constantly apply creams to reduce the impacts. The hotel ignored my request. I would avoid this place.
Lovely room
Nothing
Outside setting and peaceful
The oldie worldie feel
Always a nice stay here and the staff were extremely considerate and helpful
Camera minuscola e parecchio sporca. Colazione povera...
The breakfast was ok. It was in a building away from the kitchen so it arrived with tin foil on it.
The room looked pleasant enough to start and it had a good fan and the bed was comfortable. However, the sink in the bathroom was smashed. The shower was attached to the taps in the bath but you couldn’t use it because the ceiling was too low. Lastly the carpet could use a clean. Also we ate in the pub and my husband had fish which was literally tasteless.
Staff were friendly and happy to help
A full house building site was right outside our window and therefore certainly no chance of relaxing or sleeping well. Cannot believe it isn’t mentioned anywhere.
Great location great room
This hotel feels like a historical setting as soon as you arrive, with plenty of charm and character. The staff service was outstanding and my room was comfortable, a very good size and well equipped. The restaurant and bar onsite are excellent.
The rustic style of the hotel meant my room had several head-threatening, low-hanging beams, plus numerous steps. Also my shower wasn't suitable for anyone over average height. I'm about 170cm and I had to duck when I stood in the bath/shower.
Breafast very good, location excellent as we wanted to stay near the centre of Much Wenlock.
No proper shower. Very noisy creaky floors throughout apartment. No soap or shampoo provided.
Great location. Clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. Special mention to the Night Porter who was so kind and helpful after a long journey.
Really enjoyed everyhting. No negatives.
Staff, especially restaurant, very good, service orientated. Lovely old building. Great village. Excellent food reasonably priced.
Tired rooms. Additional parking cost. Car chargers not delivering the 11kwh paid for.
It was all fine
Nothing
Location was great, arrived later than expected so didn't use any other facilities.
Bed wasn't that comfortable and made creaking noises everytime I moved. Paying extra for parking was disappointing.
Clean and comfortable, breakfast very good and food in the pub excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. An excellent location for getting out into Wales or the Shropshire hills.
The bath mixer shower in the twin room facing the pub could be modernised, but otherwise a very comfortable room.
Convenient location
Room (particularly bathroom) in need of some general refurbishment
Well located, light and airy dining room, plenty of parking and the room and bathroom were clean. Water provided. Bed was comfortable.
The facilities looked a bit tired; although the lights worked, only one of the 4 were complete - all the rest were damaged. There is no air con or fan. You have to pay £10 for parking.
It was old and interesting and was in a good position in the town
Nothing
Great location. Good portions of food.
Very clean comfy and good price
It was a last min stay as I was at work and made my day thank you the Tolbot inn was a pleasure x
The Hotel let me check-in early as I was going to a funeral - and that was bonus !
There was a lot of Stairs up to my room
The staff were very nice and friendly
My room has a bad smell had to use my perfume to help with the smell. The bathroom was not clean the shower had hair in it but because it was late and I needed to shower and sleep for early rise cleaned it myself. The breakfast was not worth it!
Lactation
Needed bit of cleaning
Great place evening meal and breakfast were brilliant room was comfortable too
As it was hot no air conditioning but there was a fan to try and cool the room
The staff were brilliant
Not warned about building works , noise was intrusive
Charming room in old part of hotel. Evening food ok. Breakfast ok. Great location for RHS Wisley.
Sadly room very hot even early May with no airconditioning. The traditional four poster bed very small and not comfortable. Hotel a bit tatty and could do with a sympathetic refurb and redecoration.
Location and staff
The owner could not be more accomodating for us. We needed some last minute adjustments to our booking and they were superb. The room was clean and cosy and the breakfast consisted of good quality produce. The soret you get from the butcher rather than a supermarket. Lovely people and lovely place.
Nothing at all. There really was nothing to dislike.
Excellent service great breakfast and great location for where we wanted to go
Nothing totally brilliant
The room was lovely and had a comfortable bed and a full size bath in the bath room.
The room didn't have any air conditioning and because it was up in the attic the temperature was unbearable even with the window wide open. In the morning - when it was slightly cooler - I went to have a shower and there was no hot water. This had broken (I found out later). At breakfast, the first cup I took out of the tray - was filthy. It was as if a dirty cup had just been put back in with the clean ones. I was not impressed with this - nor was I impressed with the 'young staff' who didn't make any comment to apologise for this. He just didn't seem to have been trained in what to say.
Convenient
Had to pay extra for parking
I like the atmosphere of the building and that the staff were very friendly.
We stayed in the old part of the building. The room was certainly 'old' but very tired. It looked in need of repainting and recarpeting. The boiler did not work and on a boiling hot day, there was no cold water in the taps to drink. We had to run the water for at least 10 minutes to get some. There was no hot water for a shower. I know the temperature was high (about 32) so we just accepted it was part of staying in a lovely old building. I just think that historic rooms need extra care - this historic was jaded and tired too. The building itself is beautiful but just needs some extra TLC.
Breakfast was poor.
I loved the heritage and history, the staff were great and the cleaning team were awesome. The reception was brilliant and the whole atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. Considering the intense heat and humidity it was obvious the Hotel didn’t have any air conditioning in the rooms but that was forgivable under the unusual circumstances. The afternoon and morning reception were terrific, very friendly and a a treat to e gage with. Look forward to my next stay and some more historical knowledge to be imparted by Nickolas the Napoleon specialist!! Lol’s…
All the above…
Young man on reception was exceptional. Breakfast was good, room was clean and comfortable, and whilst a bit hot, so are our rooms at home at the moment. The fan worked and definitely helped.
Paying for parking.
Lovely historic hotel
Nothing
Black mould growing around the shower head water jets, some questionable marks on the bathroom wall. No air conditioning . The restaurant and breakfast experience seemed more stressful than they needed to be - we were told the kitchen was about to close as soon as we sat down for dinner at 7:30pm, and in the breakfast were told to wait for table service which took about 20minutes to arrive.
Quirky with lots of historic features
The room was adequate. The bathroom was maintained cheaply, vinyl look-a-like wooden flooring rippling, generally a little tired. Shower over bath but no shower screen or even curtain. No hot water in the morning, and no apology for this just that they will get the maintenance team to check. Also, and not really there fault, I happened to visit in particularly hot weather but the room they put me in was in the loft and it was unpleasantly hot.
Fabulous staff. Nice sized room. Right in the heart of the village.
The breakfast menu wasn't as extensive as advertised online. Hot food was provided as part of a buffet, rather than being cooked to order.
Beautiful building and well adapted for modern visitors
Unpredictable floors
Breakfast was a good standard buffet breakfast - hot and cold foods. The main building with the bar and restaurant is very beautiful if you love history. The original coach yard is very picturesque . Great old pub/bar for a drink or two.
Rooms were slightly tired but it wasn’t a real Issue as every thing was good quality and worked. Everything was still very well presented and clean and the main building itself was the historical highlight.
The Nelson fishboard sharing starter at dinner was amazing and a lovely variation on a usual charcuterie option.
It was lucky we bought our own toiletries as the shower gel (fixed to the wall) was almost empty. It was a shame there were no fans in the room in a heatwave as the room window opened onto the pub garden and people were smoking - which they are entitled to do outside - but it meant it was too hot with the window closed or too smelly with the window open. The location of a garden view was disappointing as it was a view of a painted board surrounding a building site and as mentioned, the window opened right onto the pub garden with seats outside for other guests.
