Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Pleasant well equipped room. Great attention to details, with fresh milk provided in flasks and cold bottle water available from the bar. Excellent breakfast with a good choice of dishes. Staff were helpful and friendly. Very good location in the centre of the city.
Beds were a little close together in our twin room, but it didn’t really bother us.
Friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable bed.
Friendly, welcoming staff. Great breakfast, cooked to order.
The room's "useful information" consisted of a book cover with nothing inside. The shower was dirty, in particular the grouting.
The venue itself was in a good location. The breakfast was very good and the amenities in the bar area good
The rooms were dated . The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows flat. The cleaning was not to a great standard and there was no toilet brush in the bathroom and no toilet roll holder. Don't think it was the best value for money.
The friendliness of the staff
The wet room shower
Very easy walk from the train station and located very close to the City Centre. Check in was easy, staff were all very friendly, room was comfortable, food was very tasty. 😋
Hi
Food and furnishings were great
The rooms were not as clean as I would expect and the walls were very thin. We had a loud American in the next room so had to sleep with ear buds in
Very pleasant
Small double bed was very small and a bit saggy in the middle
Centrally located with access to an immediate car park across the road. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Room was spacious.
Bathroom was tight for space - but clean with food water pressure.
Great hotel in a superb location. Lovely staff especially young man on reception who sorted our car park space and was really helpful dutkng our stay. The breakfast was very good lots of choice . Definitely will stay again.
All the staff were excellent and very helpful. Breakfast gave a good selection, it felt very relaxed and unhurried.
Nice older hotel with a great breakfast.
Great breakfast, good location and parking on site.
just great
service, staff, food
Didn't stay for breakfast just wanted to get out off there
Everything
Really great stay. High quality accommodation and super helpful staff
The friendliness of the staff. The breakfast was really good
That there was no milk in the room you had to get a flask from reception. The first night we got the flask the night before and the milk smelled funny in the morning so we couldn’t have a tea. The pillows were flat so not overly comfy.
Great breakfast with wide choice, central location with quiet rooms, friendly and obliging staff.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, the inn was lovely , breakfast was amazing too
Excellent vegetarian breakfast. Also plenty on the buffet section. All staff were friendly and helpful. A very pleasant stay.
No complaints about anything.
Really nice welcome from reception. Room decor tasteful. Room very clean and I appreciated the welcome chocolates. Breakfast was very nice and good choice of options on menu.
Mattress was lumpy and overly soft. Bedside lights were stylish but just way too big for the table so no room to put anything down. Feint odour of smoke in room.
Friendly staff
Location was enjoyable. The room was well furnished. The buffet also had a good selection and was overall quite nice.
Lock on the door quite stiff and is not aligned potentially unsafe. Scrambled eggs watery.
Booked two rooms for a one night stay in Lancaster. We were aware that parking wasn't available at the location but the team gave us a great alternative to park in just opposite the hotel. We spent about £13 for 24 hours. The team when we arrived was very friendly, and gave us fresh water and milk for the room. The rooms themselves are very cute, clean and functional, with everything you might need for your stay. Great location, close to the river and the centre. Overnight it was quiet, and the bed was fairly comfortable, a bit too soft for me but that's just personal preference. Breakfast in the morning consisted of a buffet section but also a hot meal ordered in the morning. Very happy to adjust for any dietary requirements (vegan options in our case) We'll definitely return if in the area again.
Too bad it was only for one night.
The location is great. I took the train to several places of interest, including Carnforth.
The rooms could do with a bit of a refresh.
All staff were really great and accommodating
The bed was really hard, the room to the door was broken, the staff fixed this but still wasn't great afterwards, the bath was dirty with mould on grouting. There was no hot water this morning, we were driving to the airport today froml .here so were unable to shower so unfortunately wasn't great stay and not good value for money.
Good aircon - neat and tidy room
Nothing
Good location.
Expensive room rate for what it was...
Attractive quirky decor throughout the hotel (showing the history of the building) and in the bedroom. Very good breakfast choices and nicely presented. Had two dinners there - not especially cheap but quite tasty.
A funny smell in the corridor (2nd floor). Shower glass shield too narrow as water inevitably splashes onto the floor. My room was a bit noisy as facing the main street. Couldn't fathom out how to use the bedroom air conditioning.
Quiet and lovely location. View from our room was of Coniston mountain. Bus stop is right outside the property and we used it every day. No need for a car. Incredible choices for breakfast each day.
Location, comfortable room, attractive decoration, professional and friendly staff. Fresh, cool water for the room
Bath maybe a little slippy
El espacio de la habitación, la ubicación del hotel, el desayuno es fabuloso y la atención muy buena!!!!🫶🏼😍🥰
Lovely room and a cute view of the canal, staff were amazing and breakfast was delicious.
Only thing was the sofa bed was uncomfortable to sleep on, otherwise a great stay!
I loved the vintage style phone and the general 'dressing' of the room.
The air conditioning was a bit noisy at times but we were just glad we had air conditioning.
Nice place to stay 😊

Very handy location for wedding at the Registry Office. Nice sized room, very comfortable bed. Lovely toiletries. Food in restaurant exceptional. Very pleased to have fresh milk available and nice tea/coffee.
Not the cleanest, bathroom was quite outdated. Water pressure isn't high enough to facilitate waterfall shower head and no secondary head.
Central and great staff
More car parking would be good
Moderno, buena localización y buen desayuno
La moqueta, es complicado mover maletas , pero es lo que hay en UK
The staff were really good, especially at breakfast on Monday morning. Lovely property with good aircon.
The walls are a bit thin, we could hear people next door talking early morning.
Friendly staff and excellent freshly cooked breakfast. Good selection of tea and coffee in the room and complimentary box of chocolates
No room in the bathroom to put anything.
Food good, good choice for breakfast. Bit limited for dinner
A bit outdated bedroom, needed some up dating. Location on a hill, with a busy road
Comfortable nice enough for the price
The parking situation is crazy
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable (including the air conditioning as it was very hot during our stay) the food in the restaurant was to a very high standard. The setting of the hotel is lovely.
Front of house and bar staff friendly
Nice room
Good breakfast. Friendly staff

The single room was comfortable and the breakfast was superb.
I think that accommodation might be slightly overpriced.
The staff are really friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated and very clean. Lovely outside space with bonus of parking.
We had a roadside room which was noisy very early with Sainsbury’s deliveries.
The staff were wonderful, polite, very welcoming and could not be more helpful. The breakfast was excellent. I had an issue with an incident outside my window and the Manager was sympathetic, caring and very helpful.
We booked a small room as it was the only one left and it is very small. I thought it was too expensive for what it was at £150.
Friendly staff and location
Room a little small and bathroom pokey. Mould in the shower
My mum and myself found ourselves unexpectedly visiting Lancaster to visit the hospital, we needed to stay overnight so looked for a hotel near the RLI. We couldn't actually have booked a closer hotel - you could see it for my window. I booked 2 small double rooms at lunchtime and checked in at 2pm. Immediately on arrival the staff were so lovely, we were offered fresh milk to make a drink in our room. After the afternoon visit we had a lovely walk along the canal just opposite the hotel then popped to a Sainsbury's local just across the road. We had a drink in the bar in the evening, the roast dinner and sticky toffee pudding both looked amazing. My wine hit the spot, just what I needed. I was allocated room 2 which definitely wasn't a small double it was an accessible room with a king size bed, I was so comfortable and happy with the room, it was very quiet and clean with lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast was buffet with hot food from the menu. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food. On check out we booked another visit for later in the month - a leisure visit! Looking forward to returning under a less stressful situation! Staff delightful and helpful throughout our stay.
Beds comfy breakfast ok
We have stayed several times before. This stay we feel the accommodation has become worn
Fantastic central location. No parking but there are plenty of choices nearby for an extra cost. Staff were extremely welcoming on arrival and throughout our stay. The bar area was very inviting and comfortable. We did not have Afternoon Tea but it looked amazing! Room was delightful, very spacious, very clean and fresh and the bed was super comfortable with choices of tea, a coffee machine and truffles on arrival. Very quiet too. Only thing negative about the room, tap loose on the bath and the toilet seat was too small for the toilet! The value for money was great as our breakfast was included again served by friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
Stayed for 4 nights at the toll house. The bar is nice and the breakfast was excellent. We changed rooms mid way through our stay which was annoying but we understood. I’m giving 4 stars as there is very limited parking but the hotel itself is in a good location
The shower was over the bathtub and because of my age I was unable to get into the tub. My fault, I did not ask for a walk in shower when I booked as I have stayed there before and had a shower cubicle. All the staff were super friendly. The bar had a good selection of drinks and the breakfast was delicious, even though I couldn't eat it all.
We stayed in Lancaster last weekend for a couple of nights. We found the hotel in a decent position, close enough to the centre to walk to it, but far enough away for it not to bother us. We arrived very early but that's wasn't a problem, the room had a few "issues" but under manager Matt sorted them out quickly ( the marigolds were very fetching), what i did like was Matt never delegated the job, he just got on with it, full marks to him. The room was "cozy" but it served it's purpose perfectly. The evening meal in the restaurant was very good, my only gripe was the Sunday breakfast, my scrambled egg was that runny, it was doing a half marathon around my plate. The lovely Chloe also needs a mention, nothing was to much for her to handle, a real asset to any business. We wouldn't hesitate to book and stay again.

Noisy street
My sister and I stayed two nights to celebrate a family birthday. We had a twin room and ate two breakfasts, a lunch and an evening meal with guests. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming and efficient at all times. The food was tasty and the room comfortable. It was an excellent base from which to walk to all the enjoyable parts of Lancaster that we wished to visit. Thank you everyone at The Toll House. We will definitely be coming back.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst celebrating our son’s graduation at the University. Rooms were very comfortable and well appointed with an accessible room available if needed. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was included and the choice was excellent and the quality just as good. Thank you. Will definitely be back to stay.
The hotel was amazing - comfortable, beautiful, well-though over details like coffee, tea, milk in the room. Wonderful and tres chique breakfast and welcoming and very nice staff. Will come here again whenever in Lancaster! ☺️
Vannā nevarēja izņemt puļķi.
Went for son’s graduation meal and the restaurant exceeded expectations. Friendly and efficient service, great menu and the food was delicious.
A fantastic first stay at this amazing Hotel. From the minute we booked online to the minute we left, we felt that our comfort was their main priority. I had to call beforehand to request a walk in shower and it was arrange with no issue whatsoever. The staff member who took my call was very helpful and I was under the impression that nothing would have been too much trouble. We reserved a parking spot (only 4 available so book early) and it was marked up with our name when we arrived. The room was spotless and had aircon, which was definitely needed on one of the hottest days of the year so far. We took advantage of the £30 per head room upgrade which included a 3 course meal and breakfast. The food is of a very high quality and what we had was way over the £30 we paid. The chef also dealt with my wife's food allergy, which can be challenging for the best of people. On the strength of this alone we will. be returning. Every member of staff was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is perfectly situated, 5 minutes from the town centre, but without any of town centre noise. This will defiantly not be our last visit and a massive thank you to all of the staff.
Interesting interior, easy access, nice outdoor space. Staff were really helpful and looked after us.
Faulty kettle and coffee machine in the toom.
At breakfast there was a good and was always lovely.
Being on a road junction there was quite lot of traffic noise at night.
Small bedroom in an inn-type establishment. Check-in at dedicated desk near the bar area. Pleasant staff. Nice cooked breakfast, though continental breakfast was very limited. Poor set up for breakfast dining --- very cramped!
At £149 per night, very expensive for what it is. Not a lot of decent accommodation stock in Lancaster city centre, hence the price. I paid for two rooms, so nigh on £300 for one night for two people --- would not do that again!
De ontvangst om 01:30 uur am. Vertraging met de boot, maar er werd gewoon een biertje getapt.
Property was nice, clean rooms,
Bed was a bit hard for me
Friendly place with a comfortable bed. Clean and a good breakfast
Not many negatives really. I was attending a conference at the University which is about 15-20 minutes away.
all good
Perfect location to tour Lancaster. The breakfast and evening meals were great. A great place for a short stay
All the staff were obliging and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were served quickly and staff accommodated any requests.
Faulty bedside lamp and leaking shower screen, but when reported to staff the issues were taken on board and repairs were to be programmed.
We were in Lancaster visiting Family and the Toll House made an ideal base. Great service, great food and a very comfortable room. Well located to head North or South in the car and close to the canal and city centre for interesting walks. The only potential downside is that parking at the hotel is very limited and the nearby Council car park is expensive.
Excellent customer service staff were amazing. Superb breakfast. Bedrooms are clean and just lovely. Great central location. Lovely little touches.

Myself and my sister were visiting family who live near by. We had a really wonderful stay. The accommodation was fantastic. The breakfast 10 out of 10 and the staff so friendly. We will definitely return again.
A lovely hotel. Great friendly helpful staff. Clean smart room with everything you need and more. Fantastic dinner and breakfast. Very tasty and great service.
My go to hotel. Lovely stay as always.

Room very small, no chair, decoration dirty in places
Fabulous stay as usual, the staff are all extremely friendly and can't do enough for you would recommend to anyone visiting Lancaster
We had evening meal & breakfast booked with friends. It was absolutely delicious. Could not fault it. The staff were very tentative.
Excellent hotel. Cosy, warm decoration. Fantastic friendly and thoughtful staff. Good food. Room and beds were great and clean. In the middle of Lancaster.
The Toll House Lancaster is an exceptional hotel with a great atmosphere in a great location near the Canal and town centre. All the staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. Rooms are comfortable and clean with everything I needed for a great stay and that is why I have been back several times over the years.
Everything was perfect for my friend and I staying over for the weekend. The rooms was a great size and the breakfast was delicious. The orange and tumeric shot was a great touch. It would have been 10/10 if there wasn't a couple of stray hairs on the duvet. Otherwise fantastic thank you!
Two or three stray black hairs on the duvet.
Great location and good breakfast.
Lots of (large) dust chunks on the drapes and walls/vents
Close to parking, kept beautiful, friendly staff that couldn't do enough for you, breakfast amazing. Thank you for everything.
Very nice
Bedrooms need a little updating
Love this hotel. Great location. Lovely staff. Comfortable rooms and fantastic breakfast.

Great stay. Comfortable room. Very clean hotel. Very good breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Very good bar in hotel
Fantastic location with friendly helpful staff.
This was our 4th stay, so we obviously like the place. Public areas have had a nice refurbishment since our last visit, however, our bedroom was a quiet tired and expensive for the quality of the room.
