A great place for a short visit. We were only there the one night for a show. The people were all friendly and helpful, breakfast was pretty good and offered good options. The room was clean but certainly showed its age with some sagging cracks in the ceiling. The lack of AC in the middle of August was an issue, and if I'd seen that when booking I probably would have looked elsewhere. They did have a large fan in the room and it made it tolerable with the windows open, although that removes any chance at privacy with open windows and curtains! At night it cooled right off to keep us quite cozy so at least we were able to sleep. Great location close to everything.
This is our second visit to The Townhouse and again it was perfect, the room was very comfortable, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious, recommend the Small Plates, all perfectly cooked. The Bar & Restaurant areas are very relaxed, some nights there is live music in the bar, excellent the time we were there. The location is great for easy access to the river and town centre. Highly recommend..
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Stay at The Townhouse We had such a wonderful stay at The Townhouse and would highly recommend it. Jennifer, the manager, was absolutely fantastic. She was there from early in the morning through late at night, always smiling, welcoming, and making sure every guest was looked after. Her hard work and dedication really stood out. We stayed in Room 1, and it was perfect. It was one of the hottest weekends of the year, yet our room stayed lovely and cool, making it incredibly comfortable. The live music on Saturday evening created such a great atmosphere, and it was the perfect place to watch England beat Denmark. As a lovely surprise, Jennifer even brought all of the hotel guests free pizza during the match, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made the evening even more enjoyable. Breakfast the following morning was excellent—fresh, delicious, and a great way to start the day. Every member of staff we met was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. Thank you, Jennifer and the whole team, for making our stay so memorable. We will definitely be back!
This is the third time we have stayed at Stratford Town House and i cant argue the rooms are beautiful and clean. However I would not stay here again on principle after seeing how they deal with customers. We were sat in the bar and s friendly group of young lads came in. They sat down and had a drink and yes were loud but troublemakers absolutely not....yet an old guy drinking in the bar decided he was ten men and tried to make trouble with them. This older guy came into where they were sat and asked what they had been doing in the toilet. A lad jokingly said he had had a 'tommy tit' ( one cubicle only ) and asked the old guy what it had to do with him. Bearing in mind this old guy was stood there thinking he was ten men stareing at them all them. He then went and called this young lad a fat person ....and asked him outside as he wanted to deal with him....... the situation eventually calmed down (witout staff intervention) and a lady sat on the next table to us went and told the bar staff the old guy was the one in the wrong. I also went to the bar and told the staff the lads had done nothing wrong and in fact the old guy was massively in the wrong and he was the one needing to be removed. Yet unfortunately the bar staff albeit being told the truth decided to throw the young lads out. When leaving the lads turned to me and the couple next to us who had witnessed it all and apologised even though they had nothing to apologise for. I am totally disappointed in the staffs attitude and the fact besides being told who was the issue, they decided to remove the wrong people from the situation. On that basis, we usually use the Townhouse as our base for visits to Stratford, but going forward I will pay extra and stay at accommodation that listens to customers and acts appropriately.
Owners have horrible attitude.
Booked for Sunday Lunch - not too busy. Greeting was fine - ordered drinks - fine. Then it went downhill - 3 of us - ordered 2 starters and 3 mains - they were all delivered to the table at the same time - pointed out to hostess who said - oh yes - sorry about that - they got confused!!! Really - how can you get confused. So didn’t really eat starters as didn’t want to ruin main - it wouldn’t have mattered - the food was so salty I couldn’t eat it - so went back to the starters as you can’t really go wrong with bread and oil! Such a shame as I had heard good things about the Sunday lunches. If you go - don’t order a starter and don’t have gravy as it’s full of salt! Fish and chips daughter had was lovely
Such a lovely trip. The staff accommodated our every need. Beautiful food and wonderful drinks. Would highly recommend. A perfect weekend away with friends.
Such a lovely, cosy hotel. The staff are friendly and attentative, nothing too much for them. Room was lovely, clean and a comfortable bed. Can't wait to come back!
We had the most wonderful stay at The Townhouse, 16 Church Street, and honestly couldn’t fault a thing. The building itself is full of character and charm, which immediately adds to the experience. The bar and restaurant area is absolutely gorgeous, such a warm and inviting space to relax in. The food was without a doubt the highlight of our stay. Chef Rob’s knowledge and passion really shine through in every dish. We ended up trying most of the tapas plates on the menu and each one was beautifully presented and packed with flavour. The cocktails were amazing too, expertly made and the perfect addition to the evening. Rob and Jen are fantastic hosts. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. The hospitality and service were excellent throughout and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and beautifully presented, and we were lucky enough to have a huge bath which made the stay feel even more luxurious. The location is perfect, right on the same street as Shakespeare’s Birthplace, surrounded by so much history and character. We left already planning our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food, beautiful surroundings and exceptional hospitality. Thanks again!❤️
We stayed in Stratford this weekend and discovered the townhouse, we popped in on Friday and Saturday for a drink. The staff were very friendly and attentive, I had a pint of brakespear on both occasions, excellent beer! We then returned on Sunday for lunch before leaving Stratford. My wife describes me as a Sunday lunch fanatic and I would describe the lunch here as a strong 9 out of 10. Between the 3 of us we had the chicken, pork and beef. The Yorkshire puddings were excellent, the roast potatoes were fantastic and the gravy was to die for. We'll definitely be back and next time we'll also stay in the hotel.
Popped in for a quick drink and came across the tapas/small plates menu which looked delicious so we ordered 3 items. All delicious and we can highly recommend!
Had the most amazing stay at this beautiful hotel. Staff were so welcoming, especially Atif at breakfast, which was delicious! We stayed in room 3, which was absolutely gorgeous and spotlessly clean. Loved the lush bath products too! This hotel has thought of everything and all the attention to detail and decor in the rooms was just beautiful. Location was perfect. Couldn’t fault a thing and will definitely be back again! Thank you!
Excellent stay at such a lovely hotel, staff are friendly and very hospitable. Rooms and bed are very comfortable and offered us a great nights sleep. Breakfast was Excellent quality with impeccable service. We've stayed at this hotel a few times over the years, it always delivers a 'special' experience. Thankyou to all the staff and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year
As I write this IV just finished a beautiful Sunday lunch. Stunning. Service by Red was lovely, such a nice girl. Rob the chef certainly knows his stuff. Even gave us some stuffing which was great. Thank you we will be back very soon.
We had an amazing time staying in The Townhouse. Really welcoming! A good night's stay with comfy beds and a great shower. A delicious breakfast served to us by Atif who was soooo nice! Thank you!
My friend and I stayed for 1 night after seeing Macbeth at The Other Place in November. We received a warm welcome and were able to leave our bags while we saw the matinee performance. The location is fantastic-close to theatres, history and shops. Stratford is a lovely place. Our twin room was on the top floor but the stairs weren’t steep. Beds were very comfortable with clean, fresh linen. The en suite was small, no bath only a big shower but that was fine. Couldn’t figure out how to turn the heated towel rail on but the bedroom itself was very warm so didn’t bother us. Towels were large and fluffy. There was plenty of storage and lighting, tea & coffee, mirrors and TV. Slept well. We didn’t eat here as there are lots of lovely cafes around for breakfast. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again in the future as I thought it a lot more characterful than a premier inn.
I would actually give it 2.5 stars. I'm going to start with what's great about this place. *Amazing location. Everything that you want to do in Stratford is walking distance (5 to 7 min) and the train station is just 13 minutes away. A lot of nice places to eat are also around the corner. *The girls who work at the reception and bar are incredibly friendly and they make you feel welcome. *The room I stayed in is spacious. The bathroom is big enough (comfortable I would say) and the shower is very good. It's a lot bigger than other showers I've seen in hotels of better category. The bathroom was well cleaned, and my cleanliness expectations are high. What is not great about The Townhouse: *This place really needs some investment. As you walk around the bedroom halls, and even inside the room, you can feel where, below the carpet, the wood has just given in and it's actually the carpet what's keeping you from twisting your ankle. It could also do with some new carpet, in the room and in the entire place in general. In the room the carpet was full of stains. it can def do with some painting too. *It didn't smell awful, but it could do with better ventilation. *The mattress was uncomfortable. It just doesn't hold anymore. *The quality of the breakfast isn't good. The coffee was tasteless and the jam was of that kind that's like a chunk that doesn't spread. It didn't taste good either. I chose the continental option and only enjoyed the granola. *When I made the booking I got an email saying that they would charge the amount due (they charge you 20% when you book) at check-in. 48 hours before check-in day I got another email saying that they had changed management and now all bookings are fully charged 48 hours before arrival. I don't agree when a business changes their policies but don't honour the initial policy they had with the clients that booked with them while they had that initial policy. Overall I would say that it can be a good experience for a night or two, but I would look for a different alternative if you're staying for longer. However, I can't stress enough how well this place is located! It's very convenient.
Large well appointed clean en-suite room in a lovely period property. The bathroom is showing signs of ageing (cracked floor tiles, shower tiling could do with a little treatment and wooden loo seat probably needs replacing). Lovely style overall in a super location but just a little tired in places.
Staff weren’t very welcoming. No food service on evening. Light bulbs not working in room. And being quizzed by staff who aren’t on duty asking us in the middle of the bar where we are going when we were resting to our room. Was absolutely not impressed.
Not bad but needs a good spruce up. There was a bath mat covering a burn in the carpet next to the bed and the ceiling of the shower was moldy and dirty.
We loved this place. The room was spacious, the bed was big and comfortable, and there was a refrigerator. The breakfast was great, as was the staff. The carpet was pretty worn on the stairs and halls, but everything else was in pretty good shape. We did have to park in the NCP parking lot a few blocks away, but that was no problem. And the location was wonderful-- for most of the Shakespeare activities, for the market, for the theater, and for great restaurants and stores. We would stay there again.
Staff was the very best! It's usually about people, people, people.
Staff very helpful, great location and comfy bed. Only area of improvement would be the en-suite, floor tiles cracked and unstable in places. Room still functional though.
Without doubt the best place for food, atmosphere and top class service. We held our post wedding meal here. 27 guests. We had a roast dinner. It was stunning. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious and came out at the same time piping hot. They catered for allergies and dietary needs with perfection. I can’t recommend this venue more highly. It is a beautiful premise decorated tastefully and the staff are the cherry on the icing. Don’t miss out on what is guaranteed to be the best experience you could have in Stratford upon Avon.
Lovely hotel, very central
Ideally located in Central Stratford upon Avon, short walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Welcoming friendly staff Nice good size room with large shower room/ toilet. All relevant facilities available
Nothing
The staff were very welcoming, and when I arrived early I was allowed to book in. It is a beautiful of building, however it does need some updating. The carpets are worn, and in some places threadbare. The window lock in my bathroom was broken There was a kettle and several different teas, coffee, etc., but there were just 3 tiny milk pods. I would have liked more milk. The bed in my superior room was comfortable, however it was a standard 4’6” double. There was a small fridge containing two bottles of water. There was a large good quality 500ml soap/shampoo dispenser in the shower, a mini soap bar, and a mini hair conditioner on the sink. The roll top bath was against a wall however there was no provision for towels, soap, or shampoo. I had to put them on the floor and because the bath was so deep I couldn’t reach them by leaning over, so I had to stand up each time. There a TV, but no safe The breakfast was very good, and they served great coffee. The reason I only gave them four was the price (£130 for single use), and in a superior room I would expect a king size bed, and though the toiletries were adequate, In a superior room I would expect more.
Nice location
Quite a lot actually. The carpet in the room was absolutely filthy, the room was very hot even with the fan on. The shower head and fan wasn’t the cleanest.
Very welcoming staff and a fantastic location
Maybe stairs to the rooms could do with a do over, but apart from that great
Excellent location comfort and staff
The location was great and the bar and staff were great too.
The dusty room . The cleaners need to clean more thoroughly.
Alles gut !
Beautiful, cosy and charming stay. Customer service excellent. Ideal location.
It was very convenient and extremely comfortable
Nothing
Just great overall.
The room was beautiful. I loved being able to have a bath and watch the tv at the same time. The bed was really comfy. Location was excellent.
There were no blinds on the bedroom window. I needed to go to sleep at 6pm to be awake at 1am for work, but I could not make the room very dark. Thicker curtains or blinds would have helped immensely.
Sehr freundliches Personal, sauberes und bequemes Zimmer.
Large beautiful room in the centre of town. Lovely property very helpful staff couldn’t fault our stay (wish it was longer than one night)
Nothing
Location was perfect, Staff were very welcoming and friendly Room was large and very comfortable.
Only thing that was slightly negative was the carpet on stairs needs replaced
Look de l hôtel
Rien
El desayuno. Muy cerca de todo y el personal muy amable.
It’s in a good location and the staff are welcoming
I have stayed here a few times, but I noticed on this occasion how rundown the place is looking, in particular the carpets in the communal areas are completely worn , a real trip hazard
A really comfortable old hotel right in the centre of Stratford.
Wonderful breakfast, atmospheric hotel with nicely designed interior and fantastic location. Lovely staff too.
Extremely central. Very welcoming. Fresh towels every day.
Bathroom very small - but fine
Excellent hotel with a great bar area and such a good location. Staff were brilliant and so accommodating.
It's a little bit 'tired' in area's so could do with a spruce however understand that it's an expensive job for an old property.
good facilities
NA
Lovely little hotel, staff made you feel welcome on arrival, at the bar and at breakfast. The room was great, spacious with a comfortable bed, large ensuite with great shower. Couldn't fault it, and will definitely return.
Location
Bit Shabby
Great check in system, very lovely young lady on reception and in bar area , bar area beautifully decorated main staircase too rooms carpets could do with replacing as threadbare. Rooms are spacious and averagely clean , bed linen was clean and beds were comfortable, bathroom was also averagely clean , tiles could do with a descale but water was hot and rest of bathroom was clean , also lovely white towels , overall for the money a great place to stay , central to all the sites , we would stay again .
Comfy bed, staff great, but carpet on the stairs is a safety hazard and should be replaced. Love the décor, but it's not very clean and a bit tired. Good position though.
Fantastic location. Beautiful room. Friendly nothing too much staff.
We liked everything ♥️
Excellent location and friendly staff
Loved the hotel itself, location and staff were great.
I think I was given the cosy room but was expecting a Standard King.
We had seen on trip advisor that they had a pianist on a Friday evening so we went along. We were not disappointed. The young man played beautifully for an hour. This is not a karaoke bar or a request slot- just a young person (from the school opposite) playing beautiful music. Sit back and enjoy a drink and the beautiful playing. The bar only had one member of staff so she was having to do everything but she did it all competently and with great humour and customer service skills. Well worth a visit
A warm reception and good advice about parking. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable places to sit for a post-theatre drink
The ragged state if the stair carpet is an accident waiting to happen. Any inspection would pick up on this. Light switch by door of room 6 is dangerous too.
Friendly atmosphere & great location
It's a tatty in places & the second day breakfast was quite poor.
Great location and helpful friendly staff. Carpets in common areas and stairs so threadbare in places that they are a serious trip hazard. And also very grubby and stained. Our room on top floor was ok ish. Mould in shower room and broken blind. Complementary breakfast is a plated up continental breakfast. Should be simple to arrange. Waited 45 mins first day, and 30 mins second day. Plates were left on the pass for a long time as the one server each morning was run ragged getting drinks sorted for guests. This daft system doesn’t work for staff or guests and also a lot of waste. A simple help yourself buffet would be so much more efficient. First breakfast was further spoilt by testing the high pitched fire alarm in every room over 15 mins. Not sure why this had to be done at exactly the time guests were hoping their breakfast would eventually appear. Surely this could be done when guests likely to be out for the day? It was so intrusive it activated the fire service to turn up in a fire engine.
Really pretty hotel, and a lovely room.
Excellent location. Beautifully decorated with lots of character. Clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
It is looking a little tired in places and would benefit from some small jobs being done to tidy it up. Our bedsheets had big stains on (looked like makeup stains which hadn’t come out in the wash) - staff were very helpful in helping us change them after we’d arrived late in the evening, but housekeeping should never have put them on the bed in the first place.
Location, staff
Rooms far too hot. Need Ac
Fab central location, lovely bar downstairs and great staff
Paid for a superior room and had a nice big space but it was a bit aged, cracked walls, black spots in the bathroom etc.
Lack of car parking and no lift to upper floors caused significant inconvenience as did the change of breakfast serving times without notice. The stair carpet was so frayed as to be highly dangerous. Conveniently positioned for the theatre and the restaurants of Sheep Street. Comfortable bed, good bed linen and towels, decent shower, but our room was in total darkness due to a broken Roman blind which we managed to partially raise ourselves using lengths of twine. Reporting this on check in it remained in attended throughout our three night stay.
Location Ambience Comfort Staff Breakfast
Difficulty parking locally
The hotel was conveniently located and had a really cozy and homey vibe to it. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. The staff was very friendly.
In an old building the level of the floors is a bit wonky so I did find myself stumbling more than usual but whatcanyado.
Place was cute but quite old. The flooring in the room was uneven and though there was an AC it was too hot for the summer. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Happy we didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, no proper vegan options and but a lot good food nearby. Parking is quite difficult in this area, there is a lot but it’s laid and has a bunch of restrictions for timings. All the rooms are different in the hotel, but the bar downstairs is really cute.
This is a lovely old fashioned English hotel, with well used but extremely comfortable facilities. It has excellent good sized rooms and a cheerful group of helpful and enthusiastic staff. It is also really well located in the town for both the RSC and all local facilities.
Overall is good especially in the room rate
A great bed, very comfortable. Perfect location for RSC, pleasant staff.
Nothing
P
Posizione top, in centrissimo.
Location, style, staff and atmosphere - all were perfect and the staff we extremely helpful and accommodating.
Nothing
Lovely place to stay and staff were amazing especially Red she was brilliant! Wish we had air con in the room but apart from that it was beautiful
Great location. Quick check in. Comfortable beds. Good size room
Stayed there during the very hot weather so room was very warm which is expected in an old building, however the window did not stay open and we could only prop it open a small bit using a book which wasn't ideal. There was a fan in the room which did help. The fridge did not keep anything cold, water in there was still at room temp.
Staff really helpful first room we had let it down due to damaged shower and mold on the ceiling. Staff changed us to another room much nicer. Rooms would benefit from some updating.
Location great
Hotel needs some attention , frayed carpets , leaking ceilings in the room ,holes in the walls of the bathroom . Stayed there before and it was lovely , but room 7 shouldn't be used again until repairs are completed .
Where it was located perfect for town
When we arrived we had booked a table 7.45 late arriving 8pm due to traffic to be told kitchen had closed? paid for a superior room which was not cheap. The bathroom ceiling paint was falling off all above the shower. Damp on the bedroom ceiling obviously had a roof leak. Also by the bed a large stain somthing had been spilt and not professionally cleaned. How can you let a room out at that price and call it Superior not happy as thus was a gift to my husband for his birthday. Also no breakfast in that price had to pay extra and no vegetarian option on the menu not impressed. One member of staff running everything to Bar reception housekeeping waiting tables who runs this establishment needs to address these issues!!
Personale gentile ed efficiente, stanza molto spaziosa, bagno anche meglio con doccia e vasca entrambe "king size"
Location was great and good price
Quaint, comfortable in a great location
Perfect location. Close to Shakespeare museum. Nice and peaceful street. The staff was very kind. Room and bathromm were clean. We will come again for a weekend trip. The building is old. Actually we liked it
Proper hotel, it wasn’t all shiny and new and characterless. My welcome was friendly and there were fans in my room to try and counteract the crazy heat. The shampoo and conditioner have made my hair really soft!
The location is brilliant, the food at the hotel is amazing! Staff were very helpful as we had yo change rooms.
The room we stayed in was not upto standard, we expressed our concerns and they moved us. The staff were very helpful and did not put us off staying again
Centrale ligging van het hotel
Ontbijt karig. Slecht schoon gemaakt in onze kamer. Receptie zeer slecht bemand. Sleutelbos met alle kamersleutels lag op de grond op de overloop , voor het grijpen dus. Kamers redelijk. Trappenhuis in zeer slechte staat? Tapijt bevlekt en grote gaten. Ziet niet uit
Staff welcome was good. Room had a lovely view over old Almshouses and Shakespeare’s old schoolroom.
Room was hot but windows did open which was a plus…. As we don’t like to rely on noisy fans in hot weather.
The shower is in desperate need or a full revamp. It is leaking into the wall (tile missing, so goodness knows where the water is going) and the silicone is black with mould!
Staff all very friendly and helpful
The only thing going for this hotel is its location…everything else veers instantaneously and hilariously towards very average. certainly not Boutique…’recently refurbished’ is another classic line from these kinds of establishments, over sell and under achieve in equal measure. The staff were friendly enough although I am convinced the manager was allucinating & I think the rest of them were on release from the young offenders. Overall a tragic comedy 5 stars
