Quite and elegant, surrounded by a green forest this facility is all I imagined, and more. From our welcome experience, through our giant beautiful room, our porch with the private hot (!) tub, to the great dinner and breakfast, this is a place I'm looking forward to go back to.

Tout est magnifique et de grande qualité : l’aménagement, l’esthétique visuel et olfactif du ryokan, la forêt sur laquelle donnait notre grande chambre familiale, la gentillesse et le sens prononcé du service de tout le personnel. Localisation intéressante pour accéder facilement en bus au lac Ashi et à Owakudani. Au ryokan, tout est délicieux et présenté avec délicatesse dans le copieux dîner et le petit déjeuner ; on est servi à table dans un espace bien séparé par des petites cloisons et des paravents ; on met à notre disposition des Yukata pour s’habiller pour les repas. On a bien profité du bain chaud privatif sur la terrasse qui donne sur la forêt. Enfin, en partant, navette gratuite à l’hôtel pour rejoindre la gare de Hakone Yumoto

Such a beautiful property. Our room with a private onsen was spectacular. The food and staff was amazing!

Our stay at this hotel was an absolute disaster and by far the worst experience we had during our trip to Japan. For a hotel charging nearly €800 per night, the level of service and overall experience were completely unacceptable. It is not unreasonable at this price point to expect true luxury standards, professionalism, and attention to detail — none of which were present here. The staff were absolutely not up to the standard expected for a hotel in this category. The check-in process was chaotic and painfully inefficient: it took more than 45 minutes just to check in. Every time we asked a question, the employee assisting us had no answers and constantly had to go back and forth to repeat what their supervisor was saying instead of being properly informed or trained. The room cleanliness was mediocre at best, certainly not what one would expect from a luxury establishment. On top of that, there was a persistent sewage/drain smell throughout the property, barely masked by an overwhelming amount of incense in the hallways. To make matters worse, we suffered food poisoning after the very first evening at the hotel, which completely ruined the beginning of our stay. The hotel also provides very few shuttle services, making transportation unnecessarily complicated, and the reception was unable to book a taxi, which is frankly unbelievable for a hotel positioning itself as high-end hospitality. Overall, this hotel is absolutely not worth the price and falls dramatically short of what anyone should expect from a luxury hotel experience. Deeply disappointing from start to finish.

Tonosawa is magic. I dont think I've ever slept or eaten better in my life. The staff are incredibly attentive, the rooms are beautiful, the beds very large and comfortable, and a private Onsen on the balcony. The gym is suprisingly well equipped. The spa and massage top quality and very relaxing. The whole experience was pure luxury from beginning to end. We should have stayed 2 or 3 nights. Highly recommended.

One of the biggest highlights of our visit to Japan. From the moment we walked in we just wanted to absorb all the warmth and friendly hospitality. The private onsen is next level. We were in it every chance we got. We loved everything about this property

We loved everything! The location was breathtaking. The staff were exceptional. Our room was comfortable and we loved wearing the yukatas to the dining room and around the property. The meals were outstanding, served at a perfect pace and well explained by the table staff. The private pool and sauna were fantastic too. But the main highlight was the onsen tub on the deck (with cold water available to help control the overall temperature) which was always ready and very inviting. This was one of our favourite travel experiences ever.

No suggestions of things to improve. Everything essential was provided. It was a perfect stay.

This was an amazing stay, the staff was highly accommodating to our dietary restrictions, and made the stay very special in celebration of my engagement. It was lovely to have the private onsen in the room, very relaxing experience. We wished we stayed more than one night

The atmosphere and ambiance was beautiful. The staff made us feel very welcome.

It was quiet and private. The dinner was amazing. Although we had to leave early, we got to enjoy our breakfast take away.

The outdoor shower section was cold and the breeze came straight through whilst showering. The bath fronted onto a road, so was a little uncomfortable getting in and out of the bath.

This is a beautiful property. Rooms are spacious and the private outdoor thermal bath is just what you need after a long day of exploring Hakone. The staff of the inn are friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast with traditional or western options. Can't say enough good things about this experience. Highly recommended.

-Small, quiet property surrounded by beautiful wilderness. -Large, comfortable rooms with private onsen. -Rooms have a lot of privacy, with balconies facing the woods. -Very personalized service, starting at check in. -7-course traditional Japanese dinner was fantastic. -We hired a massage treatment which was top notch.

-Staff is extremely helpful and willing to please. However, lack of English proficiency was noticeable and caused some communication issues, even by (low) Japanese standards. -It is a very nice property, but some design features feel dated (i.e. dark, windowless corridors).

Where can we start? The food was simply out of this world, both dinner and breakfast. They catered to a vegetarian and were very attentive. The room was amazing, spacious, with all kinds of amenities included, free drinks, tea and coffee, a Bluetooth speaker and of course a private osen on the balcony facing a bamboo forest. Everything was top-notch. We booked the pool/sauna downstairs, and that was fantastic, as well as the gym. We also enjoyed drinks at the bar, including the Japanese whiskey. But the service is what makes this hotel so singular, and their incredible attention to detail; During check-in, you enjoy a welcoming drink, and ladies can choose their yukata style. The staff is so attentive and welcoming that you feel special every time. The location is great and beautiful too, with a bridge connecting the hotel to the main road, which gives a nice touch of exclusivity. There is a bus stop right in front of the bridge, and they offered us a shuttle to go back to the train station after checking out. We highly recommend this hotel.

Not a negative for us, but it is fairly isolated. And it isn’t easy to get into town to explore Hakone, but it is a perfect place to relax and experience an onesone in Japan.

Needs restoration, staff are nice but speak very limited english. Difficulty in communication, staff member accidentally woke us up at 6.45 in the morning to deliver towels that were for another room. 基本的にはとても良かったのですが、 口コミなどで大きな期待を持ってしまった事も ありますが、少し残念な点がありました。 1.補助的な内容に大しての詳しい説明がない →花火についてなど 2.ホームページにフリードリンクの説明があるがその内容に沿っていないラインナップだった →焼酎がないなど 3.バースデーサプライズでケーキを準備していただいたが、サプライズ相手がいる前で 会計表を提示されたので相手に金額が知られてしまった →会計についてはみられないような配慮をいただけるとありがたかった 4.部屋にある籠がとても不潔だった →部屋に備え付けの露天風呂を利用する際に必須となるので清潔にしていただけたかった 5.外国人の方が説明をする機会が多く、拙い事は十分承知していますが、要所で聞き取りづらいことが多々あった 色んな事を入力しましたが、良い事もとても多くございました。 1.妊婦にはクッションを必ず用意いただける 2.メニュー内容を変更していただける 3.部屋のアルコールはソフトに変更いただける 4.露天風呂がとても快適だった →外でも虫がほぼ来なく、源泉掛け流しでもあり、広く足もしっかり伸ばして入れる 5.タオル類がとても豊富 →バスタオルが2枚ずつや足拭きも2枚あった 6.アメニティが竹で出来ている為使ってて安心 7.テレビがないので本当にゆっくり出来た など書ききれない程沢山の素晴らしい点がある とても良い旅館でした！ 出産前に夫婦2人での最後の旅行にぴったりの 宿泊先となりました。ありがとうございました。

清掃がすべて行き渡っている。ゴキブリとか一切いない。（近辺では出ても当たり前的な対応）朝夜とも全部食事が美味しい。　スタッフの対応も最高です。ここ数年結婚記念日でお世話になっていますが、覚えていてくださり、おもてなしも最高でした。到着して出迎えてくださった方、名前を忘れちゃってごめんなさい、去年の対応を覚えてくださり、私も覚えていました。ありがとう。可愛くてきさくで。夕食を担当してくださったベトナムの方も好印象です。気持ち良くかいてきな1日が過ごせて満足です。来年も行きます。来年は結婚30周年でいくので、期待しちゃいます笑

A decadent and special treat. Everything looks, feels and is 5 star. Our room was stunning and massive and the onsen on the balcony was fabulously relaxing. The kaiseki dinner is not to be missed. Everything we tried was meticulously presented and tasted delicious. The lounge and bar areas were also lovely and the menu quite extensive. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing escape that still feels like a treat, stay here. There is a spa onsite, we weren’t able to experience it due to availability, but if you’re keen on an extra treat, id suggest booking a slot ahead with the hotel ahead of your arrival.

This hotel is the definition of luxury. Beautiful lobby and the rooms are ENORMOUS even by western standards. Even the standard rooms are essentially suites. The rooms were luxurious and the amenities are beyond any that I have ever seen. The cost is definitely higher than most but it is definitely justified for the private onsen and spa-like amenities. The staff was so incredibly kind as they checked us in with welcome-drinks, helped us pink out our yukatas and gave us a tour of the rooms and facilities.

The only complaint is that since its at the base of the mountain, the buses to get up to Hakone or down to the station can fill up very quickly. I'd recommend getting a taxi, which the hotel is happy to arrange for you. We declined not knowing the buses would be full, which unfortunately made us miss our shinkansen. But if your schedule is a lot more lax, it shouldn't be as much of an issue.

The breakfast and dinner meals were amazing, very delicious and very filling. The room was gorgeous and the private onsen was perfect. The staff were friendly and facilities were very luxurious. I also enjoyed the spa very much.

An extra mirror in the room or a vanity table would be very nice. Otherwise no complaints.

The best food I have ever had and the staff were amazing. They saw on my passport that my birthday was in a few days and gave me dessert with happy birthday on it which was really nice. They saw room is great and I love you can change the temperature of the Onsen so you can stay in it longer.

The only thing that could need improving is better pillows but everything else is great!
