最上階の展望大浴場へ行くのに一階分階段なのが残念です。自分は良くても連れを選んでしまうかも知れません。

Reviewed Sep 8, 2026Lo staff era fantastico, professionale e accomodante. Il servizio navetta gratuito da/per Shimoda stazione è molto utile, l'abbiamo utilizzate diverse volte per visitare Shimoda e dintorni. La vista dalla camera è davvero stupenda. La spiaggia è adiacente la struttura.
La struttura è purtroppo molto vecchia e necessità di un intervento urgente per renderla più moderna e accogliente. La struttura è pulita ma i segni del tempo sono ben evidenti. Per esempio le macchie sulle pareti o i segni sui sanitari del bagno. Non abbiamo utilizzato la piscina perché è piccola e sporca e non era molto attrezzata. Più di ogni altra cosa, l'odore di muffa della moquette è stato fastidioso. Se fosse stata una struttura più recente e moderna avrei sicuramente dato il massimo del punteggio perché tutto il resto è eccellente. Il prezzo l'ho trovato alto rispetto allo stato della struttura che ho già menzionato.

まず、一階が下水の匂い？かトイレの匂いがすごくて、嫌でした。館内が昼間からとても薄暗くて、夜は怖かったです。 旅館自体が古くてところどころ、しみや壁紙が気になりました。 帰りのシャトルバスが無いので、路線バスで帰って下さいと言われ、バス停に向かって歩いていたらシャトルバスが通り過ぎて行ったので、とてもショックでした。ものすごく暑かったので、子どもたちもいたし、乗せていってほしかったです。

Reviewed Aug 31, 2026Die Lage war super. Der Strand war schön. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Die Zimmer waren sauber. Schöner Onsen. Das Essen war reichlich und lecker.
Die Unterkunft ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Im Flur riecht es sehr modrig. Die Wände und Teppiche sind sehr abgenutzt oder notdürftig geflickt. Man kann ein Western Style Frühstück nur mindestens zwei Tage vorher reservieren, am Abend der Anreise war das nicht mehr möglich und wir durften japanisches Frühstück essen, was nicht jeder Nichtjapaner morgens schon gerne isst. Beim Frühstück ist nur ein Getränk dabei und ein weiteres kostet extra. Hier könnte man bei den Preisen für eine Halbpension auch freie Getränke anbieten oder wenigstens zwei Stück.

Reviewed Aug 11, 2026Shimoda Yamatokan is an absolutely wonderful place that we would love to return to! Our stay exceeded all expectations. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, with private terraces offering breathtaking views of the stunning beach and ocean. You could sit there for hours just admiring the scenery. The restaurant deserves a special mention: the food was exceptional, and the chef was truly amazing. Every dinner felt like a special culinary experience. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely caring. You can really feel how much effort they put into making every guest’s stay perfect. The onsen overlooking the ocean was another unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip. Without exaggeration, Shimoda Yamatokan is one of the best places we have ever stayed. Everything was absolutely wonderful!

Sadly, the building is in need of a renovation - hallways and common areas are damp and musty, carpet is wet on the stairs. Walls and ceilings need paint, etc.

Terrible smell in the whole hotel. The place needs to be renovated, cracks everywhere, stains on the walls, lack of maintenance. The rooms are like stuck in the 80s. Dinner and lunch were passable.

Reviewed Jun 16, 2026Tolle Lage direkt am Meer, trotz 1. Floor schönen Blick aufs Meer, wohltuende Versorgung: Futons wurden jeden Abend gerichtet. Alle sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Außergewöhnlich leckeres japanisches Frühstück und Abendessen. Reichlich und abwechslungsreich. Das Bad/ Onsen mit Blick aufs Meer ist sehr schön. Shuttlebus ist praktisch, öffentlicher Bus ist gut erreichbar.
Das Hotel ist schon älter, hat Gebrauchsspuren, aber das störte nicht.

Reviewed May 22, 2026This is not the perfect stay, but it's way better than what we expected at that price range (70€ person/night) The host checked us in in french, how cool is that?! The room was very spacious with a sea view and a nice bath with the same view. It has this early 1980 ressort vibe. The photos definitly don't do it justice! The meal were great and varied, we got different menu for each of our 3 days stay. Each main dish were vapor (nabe and shabu-shabu), I still don't like to vapor meat much, but the small local orange powder gave the mushroom such a rich flavor, it made my day! This is a good average kaiseki meal so expect a lot of hit or miss. Also, some dish will need a bit of action on your part, so don't hesitate to ask for help if you are unsure on how to do it with chopsticks. Ping-pong? Check! Onsen? 6 of them! The service was excellent and they took great care of us. They even found a lost e-watch battery charger we forgot when leaving! At this price range, you won't have in room dining and the facilities are a bit old. This fine etablishment has a great history. We also saw some spider which are to be expected since we're near a forest.
I would have loved a cold bath to enjoy the onsen longer, but I'm just being nitpicky.

Reviewed May 18, 2026Had the most incredible solo stay at Shimoda Yamatokan! The hotel is amazing, the staff are so helpful and kind, and the beachfront view and access could not be better. I was a bit nervous solo traveling from California but this could not have gone smoother! The onsens were incredible and I had the most relaxing 3 nights. My room had a gorgeous beach view and was very spacious. I can’t wait to come back here with my partner. I purchased the meal add on and the traditional breakfasts and dinners were delicious and truly an experience (but very large). Location is ideal super easy access to shimoda town center via ~10 minute bus ride and the hotel has a shuttle service as well.
Everything was amazing. If you’re not planning to eat all of your meals there I’d suggest purchasing dinner or breakfast à la carte, since you can’t get refunded for meals that you choose not to have there if you buy the package.

Reviewed May 3, 2026Great location with direct beach access to Tatodhama Beach. The area is very quiet and there is not much around but it's beautiful and quiet and relaxing. The hotel provides regular shuttles in both the morning and the afternoon into Shimoda City which only takes a few minutes, it's approx 30 min walk to Perry Rd or 45 mins to the train station. Or 1400 Yen in a taxi one way to the train station. Kaiseki dinner was amazing! There was so much food and great to try so many different dishes we wouldn't have tried otherwise. Breakfast again was lovely with a lot of food. rooms are clean and spacious. Staying at a Ryokan was a new experience for us so it was lovely to go to dinner and come back to our beds made up ready for the night and then head out for the day and return to the bed magically packed away and the room looking beautiful. Added bonus was the hotel onsen which we made sure to use each day, with various bath options inside and outside and with a lovely view of the ocean. Shimoda Yamatoken played a big part in us falling in love with the area.

Hotel bedarf einer Renovierung, aber da muss man bei diesem unschlagbaren Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis drüber hinweg sehen

Reviewed Apr 14, 2026Le personnel , dès l’accueil et le service tout au long du séjour vous donne un sentiment de «Luxe » . Pouvoir profiter à des heures étendues des Onsens ( préférence pour l’espace japonais ) et quelle vue ! Que se soit de notre chambre ( avec un espace extérieur un pur bonheur !) , du restaurant et de l’espace bar près du lobby : vue magnifique sur la mer et une grande plage.
L’établissement manque d’un bon rafraîchissement , tant à l’intérieur qu’à l’extérieur.

部屋（和室）が古く、ふすまとか壁の劣化が目立つ、トイレが少し臭いました。 リフォームされたらもっといいのにととてももったいなく思いました。 露天風呂はよかったです。大浴場は風景はよいですが、それ以外の点はそれなりの感じでした。
