Haka House Taupo

This is the best Haka Motel I have stayed at so far. The location is absolutely fantastic, right next to Lake Tekapo. The lounge area on the second floor is especially nice. The sofas are very comfortable, and there is also a small outdoor balcony. It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful lake views. There is also a coffee machine downstairs on the first floor. Making yourself a cup of coffee and sitting by the window while enjoying the view of the lake is such a relaxing experience. The rooms are also very nice, especially the ones with a private bathroom, which I find even more comfortable and convenient. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit. Highly recommended!

Perfect studio room , clean, own parking,

Well situated within walking distance of Taupo's town-centre and the lake-edge. Plenty of restaurants & cafe to visit! Car-parking on site is good, and well off the road. Shared kitchen facilities are great. No problems with late-evening checking too. Well heated, so cosy in winter.

The rooms are small - so be aware if you're expecting "more".

tidy warm comfortable

nothing

Clean and comfortable

Very quiet, great facilities.

The view, vibes and staffs all very good!!

The storage space under the bed is so large that it leaves too little headroom above the bed. Even though I’m only 170 cm tall, I still hit my head easily every time I get up!

The location was excellent and there is offstreet parking which was a bonus. The room is a good size, with comfy beds, the windows double glazed which was great to keep the room warm. The room itself is very comfortable, with a microwave, and tea and coffee making facilities.

What produced the low score was the noise - there is no insulation or dampening of the noise from the communal kitchen above or the rooms behind - you can hear nearly EVERY word people are saying if they speak loud enough to have a conversation. The noise of scraping chairs and walking around from the kitchen above is real drawback from an otherwise very handy and comfortable place to stay. For that reason - the noise factor (and being in a hostel it was a risk) - produced the low score and low value for money. If you book this place bring ear plugs!

The appartment had everything we needed for our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a quiet location but close to the lake and centre. The off street parking was a bonus.

Convenient location. Very tidy bedroom and bathroom for a youth hostel. Good value for money.

Bathroom is uni-sex. I was surprised when I was brushing my teeth and saw a person of the opposite sex walked into bathroom. Everyone was polite though, and respectful of shared space - bathroom was left reasonably tidy after use. Walls were thin. We could hear people clearly who were talking in the courtyard. There was a group singing Happy Birthday at 7am in the morning.

It’s in central location , easy access

Great value for money. Clear instructions. Helpful, responsive staff.

Slight smell in room/sheets. Bathroom was not ideal

Near on shops

You can hear the sound of the other room and the noise

Great location, friendly staff and well equipped comfortable stay!

Only thing was the kitchen being a bit messy sometimes but was just due to other stayers not cleaning up their dishes not the facility itself.

Shared kitchen and lounge.

Location, clean, good private beds with curtain, great shelves and space around.

Clean and social.

Sort of odd location but nothing crazy. Sort of nice to be off the busy main strip.

The house looked nice and the location was good. Facilities were alright (it's a hostel).

Instructions weren't always clear. The kitchen was well-equipped, but it had no freezer. There was an issue with my initial booking and the host wouldn't help me. The conpartments for our bags couldn't be locked and the room was super loud to use.

Late check in, nice rooms, and great beds.

Small bathroom for 8 people in the room, but better then nothing!

Very basic, wha you’d expect for a hostel. The kitchen was well equipped

Everything was great. Common areas are cool, staff was friendly and nice, bed was comfy, bathrooms where clean, and has a great location. Great stay.

Everything was as expected.

We enjoyed our stay at Haka House Taupō. The common facilities were sufficient and clean. It’s also conveniently located close to a supermarket, which made things very easy for us. The bathroom inside our room was okay—small, but still functional and comfortable enough for our stay. The room itself was also a bit small, so we didn’t bring our luggage inside (we only stayed for 1 night). One small challenge was the stairs, which might be a bit tricky if you have heavy luggage. Also, it was our own oversight that we didn’t pay attention to the limited laundry hours at night, so we missed the chance to use it. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

my room was right next to the kitchen so wasnt great when people were in the kitchen oast 10pm but was still fine

Value for money

The photo didn't show how small the room was.

Super ambiance. Au calme. 7 mins a pieds du centre. Chambre très agréable.
