Location on seafront. Shower good but very hard water.
Dark & maze of steps/corridors to room. Weird double blinds in room. Iron burn on carpet. Limited/confused info about availability of free parking before arrival.
The location, overlooking the sea, is wonderful. The Hotel bar and dining area leads directly onto the promenade - not a car in sight, just the beach and the sea. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
Although every thing works, the Hotel fittings are a bit tired.
The staff were very friendly, and everything was clean. 10/10 would come again.
The room what a big size
N/a
Excellent food and exceptional sea bass dish. Really good choice at breakfast.
Room was clean, bed comfortable, shower a bit too small but worked fine. Evening meal and breakfast was very good.
Bar staff were excellent
No shower No lighting in the room
Good breakfast, food served hot. Shower and bathwater was hot. Staff friendly.
Would prefer bath sheets as opposed to bath towels. Pillows were harder than would like. Restaurant menu was limited, daily specials might help.
access to our room, I asked for ground floor as one of us has a disability, we were put on the first floor, used the elevator then up six steps along a corridor and down another 3 or 4 steps, not easy access... not disable friendly.
Position of the restaurant and decking overlooking the sea
Colour of the paint outside & inside. Not enough lighting on stairway going towards room 216, light coming on too late making it dangerous.
Location
Tv was not working
It was clean
The hotel needs a refurbishment especially with the carpets and curtains .
Excellent location. Friendly helpful staff. Amazing sea view. Great service at dinner and breakfast. Very good food and drink
Bed Quilt uncomfortable. Some areas of the hotel could do with an update especially the hallway and stair carpets
great location, staff very helpful, breakfast choice very good food always hot, we had a sea view room very clean and a great size.
not sure it could have been improved on.
Very nice
Excellent breakfast served in the bar area & was able to park in the small hotel carpark across the road, which was very convenient.
Overall hotel looks a bit tired & dark. We had to go up and down 4 levels I think to get to our room, which was down a dark corridor. There was also a fault on the toilet flush , which I reported twice but was never rectified during our stay. The annoying thing in particular was they told us they were aware of the fault before they hired the room out.
The breakfast was excellent as were the staff. Very friendly and helpful. A nice location, on the seafront.
The hotel was very tired looking. Drab and looked run down. Thread bare carpets in the hall, creaky floorboards.
Good position, friendly staff
Nothing
The location of the hotel to the seafront is stunning.
Dated room, had a smell of mold to it. Shower head was filthy, creaky floors above my room as well. The position of my room (108) must be over the kitchen area as the music woke me at 5.30am, went downstairs to reception where no body was around to deal with it. The benefit was I caught up on my emails. The reality is when I went to check out the lady on reception/cover that day had an awful attitude and actually discouraged me to not come back here. I asked for vat receipt and was told I could get this via Booking.com which is actually incorrect you can get a receipt but not a VAT receipt. The whole experience was awful from start to finish.
Great location, car park, helpful staff, powerful shower, efficient daily room cleaning; direct access to promenade and beach, warm sea with soft sand underfoot. Pleasant bar/restaurant overlooking sea. 'Thatch' nearby alternative breakfast venue with complimentary 18 hole putting green..
No fridge - sometimes hot room although windows do open. Wasn't offered extra towel to swim
Stay was excellent, super staff.
All good no complaints.
Location obviously good on sea front. We have stayed many times although not high season. Food was mostly good although breakfast fruit/yoghurt not thrilling and different hot food choices would be good. Staff all nice although it is annoying, especially when very busy and bar staff are having their own conversations with each other while serving.
Trying to be constructive- we were in 216 and corridors to room very noisy and creaky. We had 4 noisy nights with poor sleep due to this and noise from other rooms, on two nights loud youngsters next door but sound proofing very poor and we could hear multiple conversations and TVs until the early hours. Outside very noisy too although I appreciate that is outside of the hotels control. I know it was high summer and very hot so all windows open. Doors need slow closures on them all to prevent banging.
Always stay here rooms always clean , view always good, staff always friendly and helpful 😁
Right on the sea front
Nothing
Our stay at the Best Western was really good. A sea view room....which was nice. The bed was clean and comfortable in fact we both slept like logs. The staff were all friendly & helpful . The breakfast was good, pastries, fruit or cooked or whatever you wanted in between...very good. My only complaint was parking, we arrived later in the day, the car park was full and it took quite a while to find somewhere to park but apart from that a good stay.
The location and staff
Car park spaces limited
Location is great , sound of the waves from the room , the view , bar area looks amazing
It’s looking tired and well used
How hotel and day visitor were in different places.
The hire was clean and the outdoor area with great views and the staff were extremely helpful
The only criticism I have is that I asked for a room close to lift due to my being on crutches but was given the furthest one
The view is spectacular and venue is central
Some places need updating
Restaurant and bar nice. Breakfast good with excellent service.
Gloomy. Needed some more lights around the reception area. (Could hardly see what I was signing) Someone clever thought it was a nice idea to paint all the corridors and stairs muddy grey. Depressing. I expected some steps between levels but wasn't amused (bit slower nowadays) when the motion light each time went off before finishing stairs.
Everything, very nice stay.
There was nothing I disliked.
Just had the worst most disgusting bacon roll I think I have ever eaten. There was hardly any butter on the base of the roll. None on the top. The bacon had a tang to it and the roll was so dry it stuck to the roof of your mouth. Very disappointing.
A very nice stay loved the beach front and the food was good we had lunch and breakfast i think the bed needs renewing as very uncomfatable and the pillows but all in all a nice couple of days
The dark colours in the stairwells but i think its a work in progress
Location
Very tired, old interior
By no means a luxury hotel, but sensibly priced and our room was completely satisfactory and the bathroom of a good size. They served a decent pint!
Notwithstanding a substantial overhaul, the appearance is still somewhat dated.
Location and staff
staff are excellent - friendly and welcoming
Location, friendly staff and good choices of food, excellent breakfast
Bed was a tad uncomfortable
A small but disability friendlier alternative room was eventually found
I specifically requested about Blue Badge parking and a disability friendly room, with minimal steps and stairs, and near a lift
Great location on promenade overlooking the beach. Spacious outdoor terrace. Free parking. Restaurant open all day for meals. Good selection for breakfast served by a cheerful waitress. Our room had big windows and the sea breeze helped kept it cool along with very efficient blackout blinds. Good Wi-Fi.
Hotel in process of being refurbished so although our room was bright with modern furniture the en-suite was in need of an upgrade especially the small shower cubicle and not very efficient shower. Also sea gulls very noisy especially early in morning but that’s to be expected in a seaside town.
the location, the staff and the food
A lovely room overlooking the sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful. An excellent breakfast.
No air conditioning or fans in the room on a hot day.
Great location Great views of sea
Food was terrible
Location
No a/c in bedroom Small bed and way to soft
check-in was great, but TV not working in the room. Contacted the duty manager and he tried twice to fix it. Very awkward while I’m in my PJ’s after a very long day. Manager very unhelpful and unwilling to refund my money based on the hotel being unable to fulfil the services they advertise. FULLY RECOMMEND DO NOT USE
Staff were friendly and helpful, bar area nice and welcoming
The room is horrendous, tiny box room, no aircon, shower with hardly and water pressure, the shower room is self need some tlc
Very good location with excellent staff
Good location. Friendly staff. Good variation of menu for daytime/evening dining.
Single rooms very small with single bed. Cooked breakfast limited. If you don’t like eggs benedict or fry up then you are out of luck. Would like to have seen porridge and other options.
Location. And the breakfast was good.
It’s very tired and seriously needs some tlc. The mattress was awful. Room was finished very poorly, especially the bathroom. Whole floor is lumpy which is very strange. It is way too expensive for what is offered and I cannot believe it is a 4 star! That must have been awarded in the 70s.
Good location on the seafront.. thought we were ok as its a 4 star hotel... never a 4* hotel
The Bedroom... overlooked the street which was fine, but there is an extractor fan that was extremely noisy and pumping out the smell of greasy fat... I have a video, but it won't allow me to post it the Bathroom... toilet handle needed to be pumped about 10 times before it flushed, the shower door handle was broken, the shower door wouldn't close properly, so water ended up all over the floor, the rubber pads that you stand on were stained with dirt, the shower hose was broken.
The room just wasn’t nice. Very dated and tired. Very poor finish. Floor is lumpy which is odd. Mattress also lumpy and uncomfortable. There were lots of hairs in the bed. It did appear clean apart from that. Shower was broken. Breakfast was good though - good quality but again the restaurant is in need of some TLC. Luckily, I only had to stay one night and it was adequate for that but I would have been upset if I’d had to stay any longer.
Good location on the seafront... thought we were ok as it's a 4* hotel..... never a 4* hotel. The bedroom... overlooked the street and bins, also a large extractor fan/pipe that was extremely noisy... got switched off at 5.50am, then back on again at 6.50am... the smell of the pipe was that of greasy fat... sickening! I do have a video, but it won't allow me to upload it. The bathroom... toilet handle needed to be pumped about 10 times before it flushed, the shower door handle was broken, the shower door wouldn't close properly, so water ended up all over the floor. The rubber pads that you stand on were stained with dirt & the shower hose was broken

Arrived for a 3 night stay with my 92 yr old Mother. Requested an accessible double room for her due to mobility issues along with good sea views. Both her and my rooms' were excellent. Comfortable beds, spotlessly clean, soft fluffy towels, basic toiletries in the bathroom, tea/coffee facilities in each room; hair drier, iron in one room, fans in both rooms. There are accessibility issues as the hotel is an old building that had gone through many restorations; so some areas are harder to access due to oldly placed steps and lay outs. Breakfasts were generously portioned, with a good selection including full english plus a vegan equivelent option; various egg options, kippers; plus cereals and porridge, fruits, yogurts, pastries, unlimited tea, coffee and fruit juices. The restaurant offers a good selection of meals at competitive prices. The fish and chips were excellent on our 1st night. The bar also offers snacks, sandwich and meal options. In celebration of a birthday, we had a 'sparkling afternoon tea'. With dietary requirements notified in advance; both my Mother and I had a wonderful spread of food provided. (Plus take out boxes for the items we could not finish as the tea was so generous). We also shared the cakes with other guests seated near us in the 'library' as neither my Mother or I would have been able to eat that many cakes. The cream tea scones were fabulous! The chef had prepared a savoury option for me due to my not eating meat products and it was absolutely delicious! My only critisism of the hotel is that the bar prices are a little 'spiteful'. However, with the location, the levels of service from the staff and the quality of the food and drinks provided; I absolutely would recommend this hotel and I am sure I will be back for another visit soon
Location
Windows out of reach I had to call for help to open and close. Toilet flush not working. Corridor dark and room poorly accessible.
Hotel was on seafront but we were placed in an annex the other side of the road behind the hotel. The booking made by phone was for a sea view but on arrival it turned out instead to be a car park view. The annex was really just a corridor. It was clean. The essential framework was fine but unfortunately an ongoing damp problem in the bathroom led to a mould/rot problem. The only visible sign of mould was on a small piece of skirting adjacent to the bath, You needed to keep the air extract on to stop the smell pervading the whole bedroom. Ventilation was one small window 9ft up and there was no air con. No info in room or on screen. Staff appeared to be well trained and were efficient. There were no stff in the annex. Wifi was OK but the tv was very slow. The main building appeared to be showing its age. The annex was quiet and the rooms were of a good size and decor was good. Booking was made by phone because the app did not work.
Near the beach
Cannot have small portions of food Unless you are a child
Situated on the promenade excellent views of the ocean Restaurant food and service was above average Fantastic value for money, recommend highly A plus there is a bus stop right outside the hotel entrance
No negatives, pleased to say !
Location is great , staff excellent food fantastic. Spotlessly clean
Only 1 bedside cabinet but not a major issue
Okay location.
Run down rooms, need updating or just a new coat of paint.
Lovely Hotel, and Location good, very friendly staff, especially Tom the bar and duty Manager, very helpful and kind 😇 my wife ,and sisters said makes a wonderful Cocktail 🍸 😀 thank you to him and all the staff 😀
The walls in the corridors to the bedrooms very dark ,would like them lighter to brighten it up a little please 🙏 😀, also in our room the floor sloped down from the window very disorienting 😵💫🫨
Clean room, comfy bed. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.

Food excellent staff very friendly all around great
Staff was amazing brilliant location
Small double bed Rooms dated and floor stained stayed in 204
Breakfast was good. Excellent choice with excellent staff service.
There was a function in the hotel that we were not told about. This meant we couldn’t eat in the hotel bar & were moved to a tiny cold room to eat our meal.
As usual a very pleasant stay. Welcoming with kind and helpful staff at Reception. We had a Seaview room. Comfortable and spacious and clean. The food served in the restaurant was very good. Breakfast and dinner. Our waiter Baylee was great. Helpful and very efficient. Nice guy. We have breakfast served by Jane. A lovely lady who has been there some while. Friendly and likeable. We always have a good stay here. Good location, nice bar. Will be staying again.
Lovely position right on the promenade
Bed was very firm
All areas and location
Too many stairs
Great service 👏
Location and staff
Rooms were very hot although a fan was provided.
The accessibility of the hotel was good!
Not to sound critical but once the current upgrading is completed of the public areas, the rooms could do with some cosmetics particularly the bathroom.
Lovely hotel friendly staff and the beach
Great location with amazing views at the rear of the hotel. Friendly staff.
Booking.com advertised a family sea view room that wasn't available. Ended up staying in the Lodge which is not part of the hotel. I would not choose to book or stay in the Lodge so I was extremely disappointed. Booking.com did give me travel credits of £53 🙁 but I am now weary of booking through them again. The hotel offered us a complimentary drink for the confusion but feel a little more could have been done to appease us though it wasn't their fault. They were fully booked so couldn't offer us a different room. The rooms are in need of a make over and it was noisy with doors banging. Our room had old mattresses outside the window which wasn't a great view! However, they were moved once I mentioned it. I couldn't open the window making the room hot and stuffy. The room mix up spoiled our stay considerably!
Lovely situated for the beach
The room with sea view was lovely. But it would benefit from bigger king size beds
I was absolutely blown away by the Hatfield. Having stayed in quite a few hotels that claim to be 'right on the beach' I'm used to finding out that this is a half truth at best. If not, I'm often having to sacrifice value or comfort for a nice location. I couldn't have asked for anything more from my stay. Wonderful, helpful and friendly staff. Literally seconds away from the promenade and beach. Above all a comfortable, light, airy room that afforded me a great night of sleep. Breakfast was tremendous too. It has a little of that old school seaside charm combined with modern facilities.
The view was lovely
Dirty / old / worn
Perfect location, the back of the property looks out over the sea which is lovely. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
The brunch menu is so much better than breakfast menu and we were able to order from it being before 11am… even the staff admitted to was stupid!
Sea views were just lovely. The staff are all young energetic and professional. We were made to feel really welcome. Great evening meal and nice wine too.
Can’t really come up with any negatives.
Lage am Meer
Zimmer okay, öffentliche Sanitärräume durch Publikum sehr verschmutzt.
All ok
Bigger sign on hotel at rear from car park.
Had to pay extra for breakfast 🙁
Greeted by the wonderful Lisa who was so lovely as I had made a mistake with the booking which she was so helpful with. Rooms were good, food was good lovely sea views.
Location is excellent
Twin room beds a little small
Staff
Old very out of date run down
Friendly staff. Lovely room over looking the sea.
Would happily stay here again. Decor a little tired but still perfectly nice.
Lovely room in good location. Bar and restaurant are great and right on front of Lowestoft south beach.
Room, slightly tired but clean and good order. Bar, fine General hotel. Dated but I liked it. Clean and no issues Restaurant- breakfast only absolute rubbish Worst fruit salad ever soaked in watery juice to being submerged. Cheap food for the full English but they charge £16.00 Coffee tasted horrible from machine Service , older ladies great young girl.more interested in her mobile. Overall, its ok but a bit over priced. Would I stay again, yes but not B and B
Very pleasant staff and very clean.
All was good.
Awesome view from room window, excellent breakfast with a good choice. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Poor quantity of food and very unhelpful management. I am a regular at this establishment and have never had such a bad experience. I ordered the vegetarian lasagna and asked if it comes with chips to be told “yes” chips and salad, as I said good thank you as I don’t like the garlic bread they often come with? When the food arrived, it turned up with one with garlic bread one without both with salad NO chips. Called the waitress over she apologised, but said they don’t come with chips? Even tho we’ve been told otherwise, then asked what we would like we said refund please as we shall go to the thatched cottage, as they are amazing and come with chips! The waitress still apologised and said yes to the refund, but would have to get the manager, 10 minutes passed no manager? Then he turned up “Anthony” was nothing but blunt, stern, and no people skills being a manager, he asked the issue? We told him? He said no to the refund saying the waitress is no manager! He asked what he can do to resolve this? We simply said we wanted chips with it, as said they came with it? He said no you have to pay for them. He offered to make the meals again as they are now cold, but as don’t come with chips? No point? I asked what about an alternative? Straight blunt no. He’s rude and not like the other lovely manager the man who is often around, he’s put me off coming over as much and as for hot meals in future it shall be thatch cottage all the way. Also portion of lasagna was tiny, I’ve never had a child’s portion there before! Thatch twice the size (genuinely is)
Location good breakfast
Bedroom floor creaky
Good size room. Very clean. Friendly staff. Good breakfast choices. Nice sea views
The carvery was tasty but cold, needs better hot plates
Very convenient for what we wanted to do. The food was excellent as were the staff.
Nothing to be honest, no complaints
The hotel location on the beachfront and the view from our room was superb. The breakfast menu was extensive and delicious. The staff were all extremely welcoming and friendly.

Always a joy to stay here as the rooms are exceptionally clean and well thought out. The bed was comfortable, the staff polite and the view from the window amazing.
