Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff were so helpful and friendly and accommodating. Locality was excellent and facilities as needed.
Small niggle: It was really annoying to have a central shelf in the middle of a full-length mirror in the room.
I liked my room. The location was great. The breakfast was excellent.
There isn't anything I can think of.
The room was clean & tidy, bathroom was dated however it had a lovely shower. Good choice of meals in the restaurant and we enjoyed our dinner.
The room was very hot and stuffy , no air conditioning. Service at breakfast was very slow.
It is charming inn from the 14th century with a resraurant and pub onsite. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful. Location is great, close to the Cathwdral and High Street.
Room was a little warm the first couple of days with only a fan, no air conditioning. Got better when the temperatures dropped outside.
Breakfast was fantastic Location very close to Exeter city centre
The lane to the side of the hotel was noisy with students between 8pm and 11pm
We really enjoyed our stay in Exeter. The hotel's location is fantastic; you can easily walk to the river, where there are nice restaurants and bars. The hotel itself also has a great pub. Plus, they are very dog-friendly—dogs are welcome, and there are even dog treats available in the pub!
The room has all the basic amenities but is in need of some maintenance here and there. At this price point, I would have expected a slightly higher standard—for instance, cracked bathroom tiles or a yellowed shower curtain.
Location
Could do with redecoration
Lovely old building
Great location, nice room, efficient check in.
There was noise at 22:45 but it stopped by closing time
Comfortable beds, tasty breakfast.and the nice location near the cathedral.
Stale air because the windows could not be opened and there was no air conditioning.
Great location Friendly staff Was quick and generous with supplying more tea and coffee supplies which I requested after realising that room was not serviced daily
Room was stiflingly hot at night as ni climate control and window limited on how wide it can open (for safety). Also with curtains shut, no breeze can enter anyway fan was provided in room. This was not during hot weather. No fridge in room Rooms only serviced/ cleaned daily if requested before midday or sign put on door. This was not highlighted to me on check in and we did not notice the sign in corridor
The atmosphere, the staff, the food in the restausant, the location.
I had to pay for parking at the premices. The room window was looking towards the parking.
Quirky property, great location, good sized room, comfortable bed
Bathroom a little tired
Good central hotel The older rooms have more character than the new wing, and I preferred them.
Breakfast was very slow - 45 minutes to order and get a fry. Also the buffet kept running out but no-one oversaw it so every item had to be asked for to be replaced.
Location and history
Nothing really
Everything. Great location and room and food.
-
breakfast only
the state of the buildings were very bad - not painted for years and many very old cobweb over everything.
Super central and was perfect to drop in from town to put the stuff down. We could also leave our bags in the morning for safekeeping. Were also able to arrange the breakfast in the morning at the last minute notice.
The room was very hot but we had to keep the window closed for most of the night as there were people shouting outside until midnight or so and then when it all calmed down you could hear the trucks and cars flying through the window which faced the main street and some had modified exhausts so very loud even with earplugs. Breakfast was only ok and there was a long time to order, receive and pay for it.
Great location, very comfortable, good food and friendly staff.
The staff were all super friendly and very helpful.
It was an old historical building, our room was in a newer part, which was functional and typical of a standard hotel room. It was clean and comfortable. Reasonably priced car parking.
A little dated, the bathroom was clean but could have done with the sealant around the bath replacing where it was discoloured and grubby looking.
Room was in the modern block and was spacious. Breakfast was very good value and plenty of it. The location is 5 minutes from the cathedral so very central. also used the pub in the older part of the hotel, where the service was excellent.
Shower was inside the bath, which had a high side, so difficult to climb in for my wife. Cooked breakfast was slow and buffet food and crockery / cutlery was missing / had to keep asking for refills. There did not seem to be enough staff to meet the needs of guests. But when it was available it was good.
Stayed her for two days during our bus tour. Great location close to the cathedral and the quay area. Awesome old building, really really liked that. Wonderful statue going in. Good breakfast included in our stay.
Route to our room was an adventure - up the stairs, around the corner, no more signs to go buy, down the stairs, more doors, ... loved it and hated it at the same time. Bathroom lights were turned off with switch over the door, good thing I'm tall enough ! Using the bath/shower was an adventure, really felt dangerous to get in and out of that thing.
Comfortable and good location very helpful staff letting us put our bikes in the staff room
I had not realised that there was a modern block of rooms behind the White Hart, which is an historic building. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The rooms were a good size; the beds were comfortable and I slept very well. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, with a limited continental selection as well. I would certainly consider staying here again if I was in Exeter as the location is good for access to the city.
Loved the 14th century beams and architecture within the pub and restaurant. I loved the welcome that the staff gave us. The room was clean and tidy. The room was quiet. The breakfast was delicious with the choice of a cooked breakfast or a continental breakfast. The White Hart is situated within short walking distance of the city and to Exeter Cathedral.
All good.
Reception and cleaner first class. Breakfast shambolic. Lovely and atmospheric old building in an excellent location close to Cathedral and lovely town centre.
Breakfast service and supply.
Perfect location! It was centrally placed in the city and easily accessible from wherever we went.
The internet and wifi was weak.
Nice wonderful lovely
Good stuff helpful x
Used Booking.com mainly for the location and price. Great place for price… far exceeded what we expected.. lovely room, great beds. Fan in room, lovely coffee and tea, plenty of milk etc, place is quirky and we really liked it. Will defo use again if on the area
Nothing it’s great.
Old and full of character
Nothing
The room was clean. Bed very comfortable.
It’s beautiful friendly
The price was excellent and staff very friendly.
The location was great and having the possibility to eat and have a drink there was very useful
The room had poor air circulation so it was very hot in there even when outside was fresher and you left the window open the whole day. Also there was a strange smell, almost of smoke coming from the carpet and the only way to not smell it was to leave the electric fan on continuously.
Great venue for graduation. Room was very comfy and fan appreciated in the heat.
Some areas like the garden/terrace could do with an extra tidy and refresh. Service at breakfast a bit mixed.
Front of house staff
Food = very ordinary quality = let the place down
Excellent location, so near the city centre annd catheral. Parking at rear of hotel (not free but a reasonable charge of £5 per day).
Restaurant was closed on the evening we stayed (ate in the bar area). The bar area floor was sticky, as was the table surface.
Rien
Very good breakfast but had to wait quite a while for it.
Beautiful old Inn, full of history.
Nothing! Fully enjoyed our short stay.
Comfortable bed, quiet room and car park in city centre. Pleasant staff but not enough of them
Slow service at dinner and breakfast
Very nice great location and ambiance Good value formoney although at times staff were very stretched poor things for service but generally was very good and was always friendly I have stayed many times fir last 3 yrs The best value fir money abd convenience for Exeter
Staff sometimes stretched at peak times at breakfast But not a problem if not in rush. The location and ambience can be enjoyed during the wait.
Historical old pub with a good restaurant and nice beer garden. Superb location for the city.
Nothing!
As always the staff were fantastic. Location is ideal for a city break, and a stroll away from the quay.
Nothing
Friendly, clean comfortable, close to the shops and the Quayside
Location was perfect for either a quick walk into Exeter to see the cathedral or down to the Quay. The staff were all really nice from the reception to the restaurant. Had an evening meal in the restaurant which was really nice, good choice. The breakfast was also good with a selection of continental or cooked.
Nothing
Parking available at the hotel. Bath/shower had a curtain with magnets so the whole bathroom floor didn't end up getting wet as usual in hotels. Nice touch.
The room was very hot, ventilator didn't help at all even though outside temps didn't exceed 23 degrees. Continental breakfast was mediocre at best. Not much choice there. The bathroom seemed to have had leaks in the past with repairs that looked horrible. I wouldn't pick this place midsummer.
Loved having coffee bags in my room (but would have liked some Earl Grey tea too). Liked the shelf in the bathroom behind the loo. Liked that the windows opened properly. I dislike it when one can only open a few inches.
Would have appreciated a couple of drawers (or even one) in the room. Also the key 'failed' twice and not always easy to find a member of staff to reset it. It was difficult to use the hair dryer as plug opposite side to access hole. Service too slow for our Sunday lunch - although we had ordered in advance & arrived in good time, it still took 45 minutes before it was served.
Location, quiet. Does what it says on the tin.
Location was excellent for cathedral, 4mins, Quay 4mins and city center 4mins. All times walking. Quiet even with windows open at night. Good pub meals. Room was clean and parking was good. Staff friendly and helpful.
All good.
The location is perfect to access town centre or quayside. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The room was unbearablely hot even with a fan. Bath/shower still dirty from prior guests use
Stayed before good value, slept really well. The rooms have been updated, carpets really nice along with new furniture, though the bathrooms need to be next, even if it’s just bleaching around those areas that are tired!
Nothing we didn’t like
Parcheggio comodo in convenzione.
Nulla
Great location for town.
Not too keen on having to pay £10 to park in the hotel's car park.
Uriges Pub, schöne Atmosphäre
Spacious room with all I needed for a three night stay. Nice touch to find coffee bags.
Found the breakfast a bit disappointing… Plenty of choice but the cooked food not brilliant.
The location was good, staff friendly, bed very comfy
The toilet water system was loud overnight, the bedroom toilet door didnt shut easilly, the soap dispensers did not let much out, the bedroom needed more light, we could hear doors shutting loudly.
Location was good
reception was rude, staff were uninterested apart form a couple of young people in the bar who were very helpful.....room was at the top of many flights of stairs, very hot, I couldn´t open the windows but when I finally managed to open one slightly it was dangerous as the double glazing was very loose and nearly fell out and the whole area was covered in dirt and cobwebs....generally the hotel is very tired and needs cleaning properly.....sorry but better that you know.
RAS
Friendly staff. Easy access to city centre and points of interest.
Some noise from main road.
Liegt zentral, uriges Gebäude
Keine Klimaanlage;
Great location
Not very clean. Very hot
Good size comfortable double room and hotel in a great location.
Car park charges. I have been staying there frequently for several years and seeing car park going from free to £5 a night to a 100% increas to £10 per night and a decrease in car park spaces...my only moan, otherwise all good
I am very happy with the staff assistance, room cleanliness and services. Moreover, Restful sleep, comfortable bed and location. It is an amazing place and I highly recommend it. Keep up the good work.
Such a lush place to stay
Everything
Historic hotel, quirky and in a good location. Stayed 2 nights in the old/original part of the hotel, those rooms numbered 1-27. We were directed up 2+ flights of stairs to reach those, even though there was a lift! It was during the heatwave with no air con, we were given a fan but it must have been 35+ degrees in those rooms, I tried all the usual hacks to cool that room down but nothing worked, it was unbearable. A mobile air con unit could be placed on this 3rd floor, which would have helped, there was one downstairs in the pub which was the coolest place in the building. On the 3rd night we were given a room in the newer part of the hotel, rooms numbered 101 upwards, what a difference in the temperature. Overall an average stay which was to a budget.
Nice spacious rooms, surprisingly quiet for a city centre hotel
Very, very hot. There was a small fan in the room but it’s an old building and desperately needs air con.
Staff were friendly, the accommodation was very clean and modern, and the addition of a bar downstairs made it a great choice! It was in the centre of Exeter, just a short stroll to the shops or the waterfront
Nothing
It had a lot of character and charm, the staff were all very kind and the location was a walk away from anywhere. Parking was also cheaper here than anywhere else I have been
Location was excellent. Town centre 2 minutes away. The Quay area 10 minutes. Parking was superb and cheap.
City centre location Close to quay Beautiful building Excellent parking
No air conditioning. Room was very warm (unusual circumstances with summer heatwave).
Location, ease of parking, friendly staff, comfort. Ideal for family visiting students at the university. Book early for your graduation dates.
Everything was great
Emplacement
Siamo andati via in altra struttura decisamente migliore in gentilezza e disponibilità V Pessima esperienza sconsigliata
Die Lage im Zentrum war gut. Alles fußläufig zu erreichen. Uriges altes Gebäude mit vielen schiefen Treppen. Parken für 10£/Tag war günstig.
Alles in die Jahre gekommen. Die Abflüsse im Bad waren ziemlich zugesetzt.
Una locanda davvero tipica molto bella
The place is full of character and perfect location. The food was faultless as were all the staff . I would highly recommend. Have stayed here twice now and can’t wait till my next trip 🥰
Nothing to dislike . All together a really excellent place, had the best nights sleep 😴
Colazione misera, unta e salatissima. Posto da evitare
big room and bathroom
Staff and location very good
No a/c. The room. Was very hot and small which made it worse
A booking at 7.15 pm .... we were located in bar area maybe because we had a dog not sure why. food quality was good but service very poor we felt isolated as not in restaurant area so outlayers. starter was served relatively quickly but then 90mins till main served and we had to chase staff for info on when it would arrive. we asked to order desserts and told kitchen closed we mentioned the food was so slow and they agreed to take our dessert order. Again after 30mins we canceled desserts and paid bill. we were so dissappointed in the service and whole experience .... would not visit again usually a place we visit when in exeter no more
The location is excellent, close to the cathedral and all amenities. Parking available.
Nothing to dislike.
Great location picturesque in!!
La cama y el colchón. El agua de la ducha estupenda. El desayuno muy generoso
Breakfast was good tailored to your requirements. The only problem I had with breakfast time was my age carrying tea down the few steps (I am in my eights but I managed)
The extreme heat of weather, not in your control
Good location and a great place full of character.
Rooms were very basic and little ventilation so the room was hard to cool with no air con. There was a desk fan but this was noisy
Super comfy bed and room, perfect for an overnight stay. The breakfast was great in the morning! Restaurant maybe a little understaffed however
We had a drink in the bar. Again service was very slow and the seating very uncomfortable. The ladies toilets were in dire need of an update - really poor condition with dreadful mould on the walls. Couldn’t get out of there quick enough!
Stayed one night. Check-in was quick and easy and receptionist friendly and helpful. The room itself was average at best. It was very dated and the bathroom showed signs of mould in areas around the bath. The shampoo etc was clearly watered down. There is no air con so the room was a little stuffy and warm. There was a stain in the carpet. Pillows also too soft. The breakfast was not great. Bacon was thin and overcooked. Buffet very limited and not refilled when things ran out. The hotel itself is dated and needs a refresh. The pub was expensive and visitors should note there is a very nice pub directly opposite with drinks half the price. On a positive note it is an excellent location, staff were friendly and the building itself is quirky and interesting. However , work is needed to modernise the interior.
