I would not recommend this place at all to anyone coming in from out of town horrible experience, checking in. The young lady that works overnight seemed to be intoxicated or tweaking off of something. I was told that I would be accommodated by early morning check-in after arriving on an 8 HourRd. trip in attempting to check in the young lady told me my total I pulled out my phone and tapped to pay. She then told me that my car declined. I told her I’m not sure about that. I just got an alert, saying that it went through after logging into my checking account and confirming that the payment did go through she told me that it was her hotel and she hadn’t told me to tap yet ask for my physical card after I told her that I didn’t have physical card handy. She blurted out with this theatrical laugh and said she wouldn’t be checking me in and she just couldn’t stop laughing. Her speech was slurred and I’m sure she was literally tweaking off of some type of drug her hygiene in appearance did not seem up to part either, and I’m not sure if this is the type of person that Hyatt wants to represent them after spending the night in my car waiting to speak to the manager the next day I was offered no accommodation whatsoever, not even an apology from the general manager Mark, who simply told me that he also would not be able to check me in, and the money would be returned on my card. If you wanna smooth check-in and you don’t wanna be inconvenienced please find another place. This is a big do not recommend
Breakfast was free, delicious, and a vast selection! The hotel is clean, with an old-world charm and vibe. Very secure and friendly staff. The room is spacious with high ceilings and clean. Offered all the amenities you'd need. We stayed for two nights after taking the train up and will stay again in the future! It is next to the depot and many bars/resturants are within walking distance.
Terrible service on 8/8. The king bed was broken. It banged and clanged when I got into it. The couch had what I HOPE to be a series of “brown / chocolate” smudges on the corner by the arm rest. When I spoke to the front desk they refused to switch my room, and pretended to check the computer for 2 whole seconds. I reached out to world of Hyatt support and “we’re sorry we can’t help after you’ve checked in” after 15 mins of waiting on the the agent to check. Do not stay here until management changes the terrible behaviors of the front desk.
Excellent service. Great staff. Elegant place. Great views from the hotel room. Located in the heart of downtown. Highly recommend you stay here
Great property and location. Spacious rooms with high ceilings. Staff is wonderful - front desk, valet, housekeeping. Cool vibe. Free breakfast.
This hotel was so beautiful in many ways, but it creeped me out. I'm a single woman, and the super large/wide hallways seemed ominous to me. My room was absolutely enormous, too enormous for comfort. The ceilings may have been 30 feet high and the room was so big it echoed. It just creeped me out. There was no view at all -- I looked out on some kind of huge metal infrastructure support for buildings. The staff was super nice, and the lobby/bar areas were terrific. But, I just didn't like the vibe. This is only my opinion, and others may appreciate all that space and height, but I just didn't feel comfortable. (BTW it is next door to the Amtrak station, so if you are arriving/leaving by train, it's very convenient.)
Beautiful hotel with extremely spacious rooms. Loved all of the original historic architecture details! And the central location was perfect!
Lacking housekeeping, days without the room being cleaned or towels replace. Never replaced the coffee cups or glasses until we asked. Breakfast was hit or miss all week. The front desk staff and valets were friendly
What a gem of a hotel. The exterior looks like a YMCA, but then you get inside and it is fresh and updated while having charming features from the original building. Rooms are very spacious and clean. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. While I didn't eat the breakfast, my friends did and they said there was an excellent variety and it was delicious
Awesome places! Definitely will stay again. Beautiful rooms. Awesome view. Very friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Awesome shower pressure. Good choice of t.v. channels.
Great hotel in a historic building in downtown St. Paul. Amazing design combining the old aspect of a very old building along with a sleek design. Huge rooms with 15 foot ceilings. Close to everything .Highly recommended.
Beautiful building. Lots of character. Rooms are huge and lovely. Great view. Very helpful. Breakfast was good but standard for Hyatt.
We stayed in Saint Paul for a few days with the kids. They enjoyed themselves at the pool 🏊♀️ , which was very well kept and just at the right temperature. The location was great, just a block away from the 🚊 /metro station in the heart of the city. The service we received was excellent. But the room! My goodness the room was astounding! 🙌 so spacious and comfortable, with everything a family of 4 (and probably more) may need. Overall a great experience.
Cool building in the old post office. The rooms are spacious with 18 foot high ceilings. Housekeeping is a roll of a dice - you may your room cleaned or you may not....If they don't make your room, then even getting clean towels is like getting a huge favour. The valet parking is pricey, and there are no other self parking options offered by the hotel. And they are understaffed so plan to wait to get your car especially in the mornings. There's a wide variety of waffles, eggs, granola and yogurt and coffee at the breakfast though it was about 3/5 on taste.
very quick (3 minutes) walk from Amtrak . Welcoming staff , was very nice about accommodating request for early check in. Amazingly tall ceilings in bedrooms
This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Built in 1934 originally as a post-office, the hotel has been revamped, but keeping its heart in its art-deco style. 13 foot windows and even higher ceilings. The rooms are immaculate. I'm on a book tour and have been staying at hotels across the country. This is by far the best one. And weirdly, the least expensive. The staff are incredibly generous to boot!
Great hotel location. By the Train Station and close to some attractions. Easy to get on a bus to the Mall of America as well.
Clean rooms, valet parking, friendly staff front desk, friendly staff valet, free breakfast. The hotel is an old post office. Unsure if all rooms are like this but our 2nd floor room had high ceilings which made the room seem very spacious. Shower pressure is very high. Clean bedding, rooms. Parking is valet for $39 for 24 hrs. And they offer a discount if you are a member which I believe is $5 savings and they offer that at check in. Fitness room is clean and 24/7. Easy walking access to restaurants.
The union building was neat with history, but included breakfast was lack luster, with bitter undrinkable coffee. We found ourselves down the street having breakfast at the lost fox. That being said, rooms appeared clean until we were greeted by the local bedbugs. Of course we provided photo evidence and were given a new room. But the new room, we also saw another bedbug. Did he travel with us from the previous room? Or is this place just entirely infested? We don't know. We just couldn't wait to leave. And we'll now be quarantining everything! We presume the bedbugs are hiding in the pullout couches.
Clean nice property
Well they booked us in to the wrong room I guess and tried to book someone else into that room those people walked in the room while my wife and I were idk having fun lol. Then we got that straightened out I wake up the next morning to a 79 dollar charge on my card for the bar in the hotel that we never went down to. Called a few times finally got that taken care did try to talk to management about people walking in on us naked but no one got back to us. Messaged on booking and left messages on there answering machine and even got transferred one time to the manager and left a message there and no response.
Clean, comfortable, staff was nice. Breakfast wasn't great. Food was dry, burnt, and/or bland. Still mostly edible with syrup and it was included.
Love this unique property. The rooms are humongous, the staff is kind and attentive, and the location superb.
Very cool and pretty!!
Hard to find entrance!
Everything is beautiful nice clean and great staff
No complaints
The breakfast was okay, I just wish they had more of a variety.
What could have been better, was the morning staff. When it was time to check out, I had an issue the night before, and the morning staff, made it seem like I was somehow lying about the night before. I was not happy about that. What I also did not like, was that the staff the night I checked in, was not very happy either. She seemed like she had gone through a lot, and I wish that she had more help. No one should feel that overwhelmed. When it comes to a hotel, you would expect more staff. But, again She did a wonderful job, and I truly appreciate it.
Large, spacious room!
Heavy, noisy doors that slam shut very early in the morning.
I never received my incidentals back . So they basically kept my money
Great location in downtown St Paul. Rooms are huge! Lots of space for the kids to stretch out. Nice landings on each floor to relax and play cards.
Stayed at the Hyatt Place downtown just last week. We had a good experience. The bathroom lock was a bit troublesome and the room phone did not work but aside from these items the location was great, staff was super friendly and the price point was what drew me to stay at this location. The room was clean and spacious and the beds and pillows were very comfortable.
The room, facilities and the location of the hotel.
The manager or whoever the lady was. She was discriminative, trying to convince my husband to dumb me somewhere. Extremely rude and in my face. Over all my family and I WILL BOT VE COMING TO YHIS LOCATION!!!!! HotEl was PERFECT, but couldn't enjoy our ßtay due to the staff member.
It was conveniently located to restaurants in downtown. The pool was nice.
The quality of the hot breakfast could be improved. The temperature in the room was difficult to cool down.
In the heart of downtown
No parking garage connected to the building for Hyatt
The room sizes are great for large families and the staff was very friendly
Good value. Room was nice with high ceilings and breakfast was fine. Staff was helpful and kind. You do need to request for room cleaning as they don't clean them daily.
They don't clean the room on a daily basis, and when you ask to be cleaned they told me "priority clean the empty rooms for the coming guests"! Even when they clean, one day they will just take the used towels without doing anything else! the other day they will clean WIFI is not great
Parking was difficult
Great hotel in downtown Saint Paul. Much better than the InterContinental hotel. I'm primarily stay at Marriot's but will come back to this hotel next year.
spaces room
breakfast and coffee
Breakfast was great.
Large rooms, great view, comfortable beds
No hot water in shower
Breakfast was delicious.
A hot tub.
The best customer service for my little sister and I, we were staying there for the Tate McRae concert! The front desk gal was the best and super helpful, when I was trying to figure out where to park since I’m not from that area! Definitely will be booking there again for future stays!
Nothing! The best ever!
Elegant, comfortable rooms, great hot water, water pressure, just Love this place
On site parking
clean. large rooms. quiet location
parking - very busy street - we did value but it was backed up beyond the few spots that were in front of the hotel.
Breakfast
Room was great.
Proximity to restaurants.
Stayed here two nights for a family member's wedding. For a weekend, i was shocked at how few staff members were on site. This building shares the entire building with "luxury lofts." So one side is the hotel, the other, the condos. We drove around the block several times, looking for a circle drive as most hotels have, so we could unload our luggage and check in. There are no wheeled carts anywhere, so the extremely long trek to and from our room (this used to be a post office and customs building with very long/large hallways), was painful, given the amount of luggage we had for our entire party. There was a sign for a valet, but no valet employee present. Then, when we figured out how to gain entrance to the building (buzzer on the wall), we went to the front desk. No one was there--they were attending to the people who were sitting at a bar next to the check in, serving them drinks and food. When I called the hotel's number, days before check in, the AI assistant told us that for this particular hotel, valet parking was $17/night, or free if we parked in the parking garage. We quickly found out this was not the case when we got there. We were told at check-in that the parking garage was $38/night (and we had two cars with us!) So we decided to park down the street (there are two separate cheaper parking garages across the street, but very inconvenient in snowy and icy weather (January). One of the four in our party had forgotten a toothbrush, and usually, hotels have one they can bring to your room or sell you. This one did not (not a big deal, except we got to the hotel late and had already parked our cars off-site when we realized we needed one). The rooms are quite large, given that the ceilings are probably 12-15 feet high. They are clean and equipped with typical amenities, but our refrigerator, which we needed for food, and more importantly, insulin, was broken. I can't say that I would ever choose to stay here again, with all of the other choices and conveniences this one does not have.
The staff and team at this property went above and beyond our holiday stay! We couldn't be more thrilled, and you should definitely check this hotel out the next time you are in Saint Paul.
Well designed, but execution was lacking: we were assigned a room that hadn't been cleaned yet (it was 7PM), and then the next room had a towel rack that was broken and laying on the vanity.
Great location, across from union depot
The accessible room is spacious, but something is off about the lighting. It was too dark
Large, clean, comfortable room, very nice staff, good breakfast, nice lobby area to sit and visit, riverwalk, Union Depot, close to Science Museum.
Parking but that is the city
I decided to book an awards stay using my Hyatt points a few hours before checking in. I considered staying in Minneapolis where we were having dinner, but we drove over from Minneapolis since this hotel looked nice in photos and the location was central. We called and spoke to front desk about parking so they were aware of our late checkin. However when we got there, the staff had trouble checking us in. I stood there for maybe 10 min before I finally asked her if I can step away to put my heavy bags down on the table, and she said go ahead and sit and wait. I was pretty understanding at first and didn’t bother her although it was late and we were tired from the full day of driving and wanted to get to our room. However 30 minutes later she still did not give us any update although we were the only people in the lobby. I had to go up to ask her for an update. I thought the whole situation was handled pretty badly. In the end she said the system was updating and she was finally able to get in. She didn’t check any of my notes where I mentioned it was my birthday. We didn’t get any free upgrade that I’d usually get with my status. She didn’t offer us anything, not even water that we get with my status. She said to speak to the manager in the morning. I assumed maybe water is in our rooms. After going up to the room we didn’t find water there so I went back to ask for water and if I can get hot water for tea. She gave me two bottles of water and pointed me to the microwave in the dining area; it was dark there but she didn’t offer to turn on the lights. The microwave also had the most foul smell. The room itself was ok. The next morning her manager was even worse than her. All the manager said was her staff didn’t do anything wrong; no genuine apology or no empathy for us for the situation. She said Hyatt changed their policy and will not give any courtesy points anymore. I don’t know if that was a lie since I’ve recently been given courtesy points by another Hyatt. What the staff could’ve done in the situation since I found out she was texting her manager and waiting for a response was she could’ve asked us if we wanted anything to drink, or if we’ve been to Saint Paul before (we haven’t) and pointed us to the maps and magazines that i didn’t see until I headed towards the elevators. The whole lobby was pretty dark with most of the lights off so we just sat there and waited, not knowing the issue would take 30 min to resolve, instead of roaming around the lobby which looked pretty expansive.
Room is huge. Nice decor.
Hard to get unloaded, not much room in front of hotel.
Great location! Nice bed, great shower water pressure.
Old rattling heater in the ceiling! Ran out of hot breakfast an hour before breakfast was over and they put away breakfast half hour before it was supposed to be done. Ran out of hot water shortly after turning it on the 1st morning.
Location of breakfast was a little awkward but overall the food was good, plenty of places to sit, lots of options.
The parking was not included in the nightly rate. I'd rather it just be included then separate.
This hotel is located across the street from the Amtrak station. Our room was large, spacious, nicely furnished and dead silent. Easy walking distance to science museum, gangster caves, European Christmas market, several good restaurants.
Room and Breakfast were wonderful !
Parking options were confusing.
I have stayed at this hotel many times. Great rooms, reasonable price, adequate breakfast. This time, ugh. We checked in, no hot water, broken pipe. No worries, it will be fixed by 3:00 PM. We never got hot water. They helpfully told us at check out that, oops, they couldn’t fix it. Come on Hyatt, do you all know how to run a hotel?
Location
There was no housekeeping service 2 of the 4 days. I found someone’s fingernail on the carpet.
Very clean, very secure. Breakfast was delicious!
No hottub.
Good breakfast
Multiple calls over several days go unanswered. If you select new reservations it says that extension is out of service. Simple questions go unanswered. Would not recommend for business travel
Breakfast was good. Beds were great. The highest ceilings, I have ever experienced. A great historical building.
Busy city, must use Valet parking to park. Valet was very responsive.
Classy and we loved the architecture. Great breakfast and service.
Check in was a little awkward
Lovely historic building provides beautiful rooms with 20+ foot ceilings! Only confusion came when we arrived & didn't know where to park to check in.
Pretty hotel and service was okay. Food was mainly bar food until we received lunch. I can see why they do weddings. Food was amazing!
Location ideal for anyone arriving with Amtrak and well placed for other public transportation
Ventilation controls in the room didn’t work properly
We just stayed for a few hours while we waited for our train. It's about 500ft from the Amtrak station, very convenient location. The room was large, the hallway is double the usual size compared to other hotels, and the building itself and decor gives off the old school glamor vibe. Loved the quiet hallways. Would have loved to stay longer.
The curb is literally on the street and slopping down... grabbing your luggage from your vehicle to put in a cart was a challenge. There was no staff help at the curb. Valet stayed inside, I don't blame him, it was very windy at the time.
Room and bathroom very spacious! Very clean. Staff were pleasant and offered helpful information asked for. Would definitely stay again.
it is an awesome hotel and staff but hyatt has got the worst rates in the industry. i wanted to book for a month and they jacked the rate higher than a 1 night stay. weird. never had that happen usually for extended stay the rate drops drastically, not with hyatt so i wont be booking long term, awesome hotel
Staff was great, rooms were clean, beds were comfy and food was good! We stayed two separate nights and both experiences just what we needed! Will stay again on our next trip north!
Our king room on the 5th floor had enormous ceilings. It was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty with many options.
Nothing
Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was included which is nice though a little sparse.
Room was large, nice furniture, very clean and a great location. The bathroom was modern along with the rest of the room. The hotel requires a key to enter the building 24 hrs so it is very safe. Very large lobby. The best front desk staff I have ever experienced, attentive helpful, and friendly. We went to a concert at the Grand Casino Arena. It is about 15 minute walk which was great. Being close to Union Depot made the need for a car unnecessary.
Two things, the breakfast was typical of a "free breakfast" you get at most hotels. They need to either have clear lids on the hot items or labels nearby (and labels on all the cold items like the breads). I am not sure if it was turkey bacon out one morning, but whatever it was, it did not look very appealing, a pinkish extruded looking meat. The eggs were in blocks or cubes, I know they are not made there, but at least break up the chunks a bit. The hard boiled eggs were a nice touch, too bad the shells were stuck to the eggs making peeling difficult. I saw most people throwing away about 1/2 the egg because of this issue. The door closers could use some adjustment. I understand security, but they bang and the do it super loudly. You were awaken anytime someone came or went anywhere near your room.
Everything was wonderful from the staff to the room! No complaints from myself and the 3 others that accompanied me on the trip!!!
Great place
Stunning, expansive room. Great valet service. Solid breakfast.
Great location, Room very comfortable
This was my first stay at a Hyatt. If they are all like this, I'll be a more regular customer! The historic building was fun - the rooms were large with high ceilings, and the building was quiet despite being downtown. The location was nice, near Union Station and various entertainment venues and within walking distance of dining options and the St. Paul Farmers market. Comfortable beds and a nice breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the Hotel was kept very clean. The location being close to the Amtrak station and near other public transportation options was extremely convenient and helpful.
This property is located within an old, historic post office bldg. which was odd in and of itself. There is no parking available, which means valet is the only option. The staff was friendly and professional. Personally, this would not be my choice of hotel when in St. Paul the next time.
We loved how large the room was! Everything was clean and staff was kind and helpful!
N/A
The hotel is using the old post office building which makes it very singular, in a good way. It was a very interesting experience. I experienced no issue during my stay and it met my expectations.
The location is not great. It is not the hotel's fault at all. But it is the business part of the city and there is almost nothing open outside office hours. And even during that time, there is no much to do or see (around the hotel).
