The location and price were great , even breakfast wasn't bad neither

The beds were a bit uncomfortable and shower room dated like most of the hotel but hard to moan at the price really

Lovely hotel, great staff, nice rooms, food in restaurant was very good. And good breakfast.

The first bedroom we went to was upside down and was not habitable. Second room we were given still had dirty towels in from previous guests. Not a great start and believe they were having issues with new staff. Morning breakfast was in a bit of disarray, with lack of glasses, cutlery and trying to find a staff member to assist took time.

Een groot hotel met een goede locatie. Wij verbleven in een soort dependance en hadden daar een ruime, rustige en prima kamer. Dat vonden we erg prettig. Het ontbijt viel ons helaas wat tegen. Het was erg massaal en druk, mede door de vele Amerikaanse gasten. Ook vonden we de hygiëne in de ontbijtruimte niet optimaal; de tafels waren niet altijd schoon en de stoelen waren wat oud en smoezelig. Ook het ontbijt zelf vonden we daardoor wat minder prettig. Verder hebben we een prima verblijf gehad, vooral vanwege de rustige kamer en de goede ligging.

We only stayed for one night so we managed but the hotel is old and in need of restorarion. The room was clean but there was hardly any water coming out of the shower. Breakfast was Ok but with not much variety. In addition it is not cheap. We will not stay in the hotel in our way back from Orkney

Nous avons apprécié le côté « pittoresque » de l’hôtel. Il faut s’attendre à un hôtel typiquement écossais (déco, aménagement). Nous avons passé une bonne nuit durant notre périple. Le petit déjeuner était très bon et le personnel serviable. Le bonus est le restaurant qui vient à point à bec des plats traditionnels.

Perfect location , great breakfast , room was very clean, 5 minutes walk to the beach. Special compliment to the lady at the reception, she was very nice and great customer service.

Loveliest staff

Went for a bar meal last night and we won’t be going back anytime soon. We ordered prawn cocktails- well it consisted of lots of lettuce and some prawns- no tomatoes lemon etc and a slice of bread and butter. For £7 something it’s a rip off. Then our main meal arrives, husband ordered lasagne but scampi was served to him. He told the waiter this, and he questioned my husband with ‘are you sure’ really!!! So I’m afraid we won’t be going back. It’s such a pity as it used to be a good place to eat but not now and it was quite apparent as for being a Saturday night there were only 5 tables occupied which used to be unheard of in the Pentland.

Superb Indian restaurant just a few minutes away.

Hotel lacks attention to details, room not like the one in the photo on website. Holes and paint on door in bathroom and fan dirty. Patch up job on bath sealant. Mirror missing from wall and holes left where screws were. Duvet flat and old, cushions on bed dirty, valance has hole in it. Dining room chairs old and no padding left in seat. Waiting staff inexperienced and all over the place. Table of 8 and we were served at different times meaning some of us had to start eating as long wait for some to be served. Food was a hit or a miss, burnt broccoli and top of fish and potatoes first for me. Some food lukewarm not caused by being rude and starting before others at table. Breakfast was good but a few health and safety issues with layout. Toaster at bottom of stairs, tea and coffee next to hot food with little room between them and table of guests. Staircase carpet pattern caused difficulty on coming down the stairs which caused one of our party to fall with serious injuries.

Room clean and tidy. Beds comfortable so had a good sleep. Floors very squeaky especially bathroom and corridor. Was on second floor but no lift, staff did carry bags up to room, so made climb up a bit easier. Had problem with shower couldn’t cool water down. Did report a few times but nothing done so ended up not having a shower. Food very tasty, good choice especially since I was with a bus group and lots to serve. Breakfast needs looking at as food items and glasses and plates not kept topped up, but again tasty food. Reception and bar staff very good, young staff in dining room so maybe just needing a little more experience of interacting with guests, but we all have to learn. Would stay again if in the area but would request a ground floor room.

This was a good choice for the area as it offers meals therefore you dont need to leave the hotel. For a rustic Scotland experience it hits the mark.

My room was upgraded to a double, very comfortable, liked the library, nice public spaces.

Bar and restaurant were a bit utilitarian, although the meal I had was good. My room had windows but no view.

Room was really basic - bathroom heater was in all the time- no control switch and a waste if energy - far too hot. Shower very basic with only a shower curtain and outdated shower - the shower tray didn't drain properly - not what you would expect for £145 per night.

Établissement suranné et agréable. Excellent rapport qualité prix. Doté d'un restaurant, ce qui est très pratique quand on est itinérant. Confortable, excellente literie, calme, les équipements sont un peu datés. Le petit-déjeuner inclus est excellent et abondant.

Service très moyen. Service interminable au restaurant, nous avons dû relancer 2 fois les serveuses qui nous avaient oubliées alors que nous avions réservé. Plats surgelés médiocres, au-delà de son aspect pratique, il est préférable de dîner à l'extérieur.

Location was good. Room was reasonably comfortable and mostly clean.

When we checked in and got to our room, the toilet had feces in it. It obviously wan't cleaned well.

Had a meal with family . Service from male wait staff was abysmal. No interaction unless requested. Had ordered a garlic and herb sauce with steak , and had to ask for it twice. Family member had eaten majority of steak while waiting for sauce to arrive. Then attended to by waitress Hollie , who was very attentive and interacted well with the group. She certainly could teach the male wait staff how to serve tables

Hotel has an average interior but no lift so heavy bags need to be carried up the stairs. We stayed for one night. The management agreed to a live music party in the large room below the bedrooms. No sleep till 01:00 hrs. The radiator was on full heat with the radiator thermostat broken. I did complain but nothing done. Breakfast pots from previous guests left on the tables all the time we had our breakfast. Staff were polite enough, just not enough of them.

The location is just great. This is an old building, but its well maintained. The rooms are big, clean and tidy. The bedding provided was okey. The best thing about the hotel was the brekfast. The serve a full english /Scottish brekfast, and it was perhaps one of the best brekfast we have ever had. Jus make sure you go for breakfast before the tour bus crowds crowd the breakfast room.

The hotel says it has parking. There is no parking. You will be casually asked to park on street, infront and around the hotel. Thankfully it was easy to get parking on the street in front of the hotel and you dont have to pay if you parak between 6 pm and 9 am. The hotel staff could be a bit more warm and friendly, especially the reception staff.

The carvery in the evening was excellent and very good value for money.

Das Hotel ist total runter gekommen. Die Ausstattung ist uralt, es riecht nach Chemikalien und wir hatten in unserem Zimmer einen alten Wasserschaden, der schön neben dem Bett zu sehen war. Auch das Badezimmer lädt nicht zum duschen ein.

Nice room and bathroom. Bathroom had roll top bath with shower over which was a bit tricky but nice Hiowever, nowhere to put down a wash bag. We were on the 2nd floor, no lift so had to carry cases up. Maybe the hotel need to be more geared up to help with this. Food was excellent, both at breakfast and dinner. The bar is fine, just try to avoid the pre dinner rush! Overall a nice, comfortable stay.

The whole place gave a feeling of being demotivated - the staff were probably fine, but there were very few smiles. I would take a close look at the management, but could be totally wrong.

Room too small. No mirror in room, very small one in bathroom. Shower awful, only a trickle.2 windows which had to have the curtains drawn permanently as overlooked. Worse hotel room I have stayed in for a long time.

Requested a quiet room but it was overlooking main road! The receptionist was very helpful and changed the room but I found the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied from previous occupant.

Buckled floors, moldy shower, dank rooms despite opening windows. Extremely slow service with subpar food.

We are part of a party of retired people, many of us with limited mobility. We were brusquely told on arrival that there was no lift. They didn’t apologise for this and expected very disabled people to climb to the top floor for their bedrooms. Our meal times were altered at random to make way for a party of Americans who were fed first so that food ran out before we’d had any. We were shoved into a corner of the dining room up yet more stairs. They didn’t have any food for a member of our party who is vegan even though they knew about this a year ahead. They served us what they said was decaff coffee but it wasn’t, with the consequence that we were ill that night. The rooms were grubby, with other people’s hair and mould in the shower. We couldn’t see out of the windows because they were damaged. We felt like second class citizens and couldn’t wait to leave.

Beautiful garden filled with nesting birds, beautiful old building with lovely decor. Reception staff were very accommodating, changing our booked room to twins and brought us blankets. The breakfast was the most traditional offering we’d had.

Location and a lovely breakfast

We were traveling with our dog and dogs are not allowed in the bar or dining room. Due to having the dog we were asked to eat our evening meal and breakfast in the reception area - which in itself we didn’t mind however there are no suitable tables in reception to eat from so it is pretty uncomfortable.

Food was reasonable

No car park but on road parking not too bad. We are in our 70’s and had to maul suitcases up two steep flights of steep stairs, no lift. Paid for a superior room but the bed was so small and uncomfortable. The room should have had a king size bed. Room was very hot but it was not possible to open any windows.

We booked to stay for two nights last September. Drove 200 miles only to be told on arrival that hotel was full and our booking cancelled. Suspect they got a coach party that needed more rooms. We had booked the hotel specifically and are disappointed in the way we have been treated. No way to treat any customer.

Visited the Pentland Hotel for an evening meal and we were very disappointed. The main meal was delivered cold, we both ordered medium/well ribeye steaks. One was bleeding, the other one was charred and tough. Chips and mushrooms were cold and greasy, tomato was cold and uncooked. The waiting staff didnt come to check how the meal was. On coming to remove the uneaten meals the waiter accepted our comments. Our cheese boards had a selection of 3 cheeses but only 3 crackers, no butter and no opportunity to ask for any. In all, the meal was a big disappointment. On going to pay the bill no comment or apology was made by the staff. The resaturant was not at full occupancy during our meal. We wouldnt recommend eating here.

The location, parking and breakfast were all excellent. The quaint nature of the building and its interior were pluses.

There was no hot water. Tepid at best and I wasn’t able to take a shower though I really wanted to. It had probably the worst WiFi I have ever had at any hotel anywhere! The sheets and bedding were clean but just looked old. The pillows felt like they were bought at the dollar store. I would not recommend or return in the future.

Good enough selection at breakfast. Bar and restaurant staff were excellent, and went above and beyond.

Breakfast was awful. Bus tour had been in before us and although we were were in for breakfast an hour and fifteen minutes before breakfast finished the hot food was not being refreshed so some had run out, all tables were dirty, no glasses or cups or cutlery. On asking the single waitress on duty she was uninterested and it was about twenty minutes before we got cutlery and glasses. We gave up waiting for cups so did without a hot drink or hot food

Stayed at sister hotel Station St ( as I had inadvertently booked single twin and I wanted a double ) . Staff were very friendly , great onsite bar and dining with homely feel . Close to everything .

Reception staff, lunchtime staff. Roast lunch on the Sunday was excellent 👌 Physically the rooms were a great size and decent looking enough.

Cleanliness of the rooms were poor, toothpaste stains in the bathroom, crumbs on the floor, just not quite right. TV in the main room didn't work. Breakfast was poor, waiting staff no where to be seen. All tables were either in use or dirty. Had to clean our own table and ask for our own cutlery. Just disappointing

We enjoyed looking at the memories of the history of Thurso in the books upstairs. The buffet breakfast was perfect and the staff were very friendly.

It was difficult to get the shower temperature, it was either too cold or scorching hot. No complaints though as it was clean enough and we had a good sleep.
