Lovely place. Staff were very friendly and helpful, it was clean and the breakfast was delicious 😋
Great location just outside of Durham, easy access for motorways. Great value for money and breakfast was lovely
We have stayed here a few times and its a lovely little quiet lodge
We unfortunately had no wifi for our 2 day stay, which was abit of a nuisance
The hotel looks absolutely beautiful!
Everything was great.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, we arrived late and they were able to accommodate an evening meal which was great 👍
The room and bed was small. The breakfast was a disaster...sack the chef!!!! My wife and I ordered eggs benedict along with another guy next to us. How can you make hard boiled poached eggs...??? Completely inedible....horrible breakfast. Strange though, at our previous evening meal we heard guests at the hotel complaining about the breakfast food....maybe sack your breakfast chef ?!?
Room was dated and looking a bit grubby. Could do with a upgrade better hotels for money. Only came for wedding .
Room needs an upgrade
All brilliant except tv signal was very poor we couldn’t watch it 😢
The place was a lovely situation with great grounds and food was outstanding 👌
Nice clean and tidy
Toom was onthe smaller side . Was perfectly fine for 1 night
Load music playing with base all the time. No base from DJ and a little quieter would be easier to sleep. Bad night needs to look into venues away from building
The hotel was thoughtfully designed, modem rooms, absolutely delicious food and the staff couldn't do enough to help.
The cottage was lovely, it felt magical
Not that i didn't like it, i actually loved it but the hot tub could do with some sort of hand rail for stability if my partner wasn't with me i don't think I'd of been able to get out safely on my own with it being so high and nothing to hold on to to ease myself around to the steps
Everything was lovely
Prices
The hotel is beautiful and well kept, rooms are nice and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is nice. The grounds are nice and would be lovely for a wedding.
The noise! The room doors are heavy fire doors which slam shut constantly, this can carry on till early hours in the morning. My room was very close to the bridal suite which was so loud and rowdy all night. We had an issue with the pipes in the bathroom throughout our stay will around 4am. The noise was horrendous! So what was meant to be a relaxing night away turned out to be the opposite. At breakfast time the food takes ages to be replenished, along with no glasses for juice etc.
Clean rooms, large shower and toilet, good water pressure and temperature, and nice breakfast in the morning. Looks like a nice place for a wedding.
Room was a bit noisy - could hear into the corridors and movement of other guests. Bed was a bit small but comfortable.
Great staff nice clean place to stay I enjoyed staying in the outside cabins second time and would book again
Nothing really
The accommodation
The cleanliness and the hospitality
The hotels location good . The facilities are excellent .

dinner (additional cost) was great! room was decorated lovely, very clean and tidy. bathroom was clean and fresh. Gardens were lovely to view.
breakfast was good but warm up, bathroom was difficult to access past shower screen and sink basin was behind the door. seating for food was uncomfortable. four flights of stairs to room and no lift, even though I requested an accessible bathroom!
No air-conditioner and need flyscreens to keep the bugs out. It was 36 degrees C on the dzy
Beautiful venue with large rooms and fab breakfast. Great value for money.
We stayed in a chalet and it was beautiful, the grounds are lovely & it's scenic. The staff are super friendly & helpful & the restaurant was amazing.
The signal for the television isn't great, but it's the only thing I could complain about slightly!
Beautiful character property, food was fabulous and staff were all so friendly and supportive.
It was quite warm during the night, but the room had a fan which made it bearable
Everything
Stayed in studio cottage. Beautiful deco, fab hot tub.
Would have liked hot tub to be more private.
Very clean and friendly
Good value for money and breakfast ideal, staff very friendly and helpful.
Stairs were hard to get up to on top floor.my daughter advised them she was bringing a baby but they never mentioned there were no lifts to her floor so I had to swap rooms with her as I was booked in to floor below.room was too small to fit a travelcot in in anyhow so if I hadn't of swapped rooms it wouldn't of fit in
Breakfast room floor was filthy.the muck was just swept to the side of the stairs
Lovely decor
The rooms on the top floor were a little difficult to access (narrow stairway etc)
Beautiful hotel in such a convenient location close to A1 if travelling up and down the country. Quiet and stylish. Our room had great quality fittings, loved the lighting and comfy bed. Ate at the restaurant in the evening, lots of choice and food was fresh and delicious.
Cooked food at breakfast could have been better (eggs/ mushrooms were not good)
Location to work
Character
We had bed and breakfast. The hotel is well located, clean, quiet and the staff were very welcoming. Very comfortable - had everything we needed. Will definitely go back next time we visit Durham - a great little find.
Very nice room. Quiet. Good breakfast. Plenty of choice. Handy for visiting Durham and the north east. Excellent value for money.
Lack of grounds around. Better signage. Not everyone uses sat nav!
Location and communal areas were very good, the food was excellent very tight bathroom
Very tight bathroom, no bedside tables
Meals out standing portion control omg HUGE ! no starter needed ! Staff cant do enough for you and what they do do they do with a smile excellent service
needs a bit of tlc decor / blinds garden beautiful maybe sweep and weed place just felt a bit tired
Beautiful grounds, amazing accommodation , however , we left an item of clothing in the wardrobe . We called and asked if it was there , advised they were busy with a wedding but would speak with house keeping & lost property and call us back , they didn’t ! So we rang again following day , promised a return call , never happened . Today day 3 , called a little later in the day, they would need to check and call us back . I’m not feeling optimistic . Very poor customer service , which has put a black mark on the overall stay

A very well presented complex. The double room was spacious, the bathroom was recently renovated. We enjoyed the coffee bar in the room which was restocked every day when the room was cleaned. The restaurant was also very pleasant with a rich menu. We appreciated the free parking on site.
Lovely setting cozy rooms
Room was lovely, clean, comfortable and had a gorgeous copper bath! Food was lovely and plentiful, and good value for money.
Nothing
The property is beautifully decorated and breakfast was lovely. The hotel itself is beautiful and the copper bath was lovely in the morning with a cup of coffee. Our room was beautiful and the room was well equipped with lovely drinks and biscuits.
Had to ring the bell multiple times as no one at desk to check in we rang the bell 4 times and was waiting about 15 minutes for anyone to turn up to reception on just a Tuesday evening I’d hate to check in on a weekend. We also had two rooms one of which guest had mobility issues we were given a room on the top floor which we got by and I should have checked before and mentioned the mobility issues so my mistake. Also had to try and find staff again the next morning at breakfast as we wanted toast and the toaster was not out
The staff were very helpful and welcoming.
Room unbearably hot ... staff said they often get people complaining or leaving because the heating can't be stopped in summer! See other reviews from summer periods! We stayed on one of the hottest days of the year and the heating could not be turned off in the room ... it was so horrendously hot that we couldn't stay and ended up checking out and sleeping in our car. For safety reasons, the window only opened about 3 inches so there was no way of cooling the room. The small fan unfortunately didn't help as the heat was just too much for it to overcome. The staff explained that the issue applied to the main hotel building (due to the historical piping and radiator design) and they get regular complaints about it. As engineers we can understood the problem but to have the heating on when the outside temperature was 27 degrees was unbearable. Shame because the staff were really nice.
Staff were all very helpful. Room had excellent facilities and was very clean. Breakfast very good
Nothing at all
Its a lovely hotel. Nice location. Lovely food and nice size garden. Rooms are nicely done albeit a little hot in this weather
There was a screw sticking out of the floor joining strip which i hurt my foot on. Will be fine once its screwed in properly (rm 18)
Great location, very friendly staff.
Everything was up to standard.
I booked to stay for my partners birthday and wow, what a beautiful place. We stayed in the cottage studio which is perfect for a couples get away. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the full venue due to a private function but we will definitely be back and hopefully get to see more of the stunning place.
Dirty carpets. No extractor fan in the bathroom. Room 29 was very hot because hot water pipes were running through it.
Lovely hotel. Cozy and welcoming.
Beds were very soft and our bathroom was very small.
Nice, cosy feel. Restaurant and food were great. Nice to have the white company shampoo, etc. tea and coffee facilities were adequate.
There was no welcome. We should have been advised there was a prom happening when we booked so we could have decided to book or not. The music was too loud when we went to bed and then the clear up of scraping tables and chairs after the event especially when we had an early start the next day was not very good at all. The exec suite bed was small and room small compared to the oversized bathroom which had no privacy screening! The pipes in the bedroom were boiling hot on a hot day - not good. And no telephone to contact reception even though the single room had one?!
The staff where brilliant couldn't do enough. And yes the food was so good id definitely stay there again.
The whole package was excellent
The suite was excellent
Cleaned the hot tub at 9am, didn't check out until 11 so unable to use it, bar closed by 10pm other than that it was goos
Very pleasant surroundings.
No blind in the bathroom and a glass door leading to the bedroom so very light.
The staff were fantastic. Great location. Our evening meal was excellent. Thank you so much.
Tea and coffee in room.
Bed too small. Toilet difficult to access as so close to the wall
Lovely quiet area for a relaxed night away!
Breakfast let our stay down. The pastries were completely burnt, and the brown bed was stale and mouldy!
The hotel is nice and the grounds are well kept
Our room did not have Air Conditioning. The radiator was turned off however the pipework that runs water to and from the radiators was still live so that was giving off heat all the time so the room was constantly hot. The desk fan provided was not sufficient and we had to sleep on top of the bed covers all night and it was still too hot. Because of this issue we had to have the window open, there was a wedding reception on and the music was very loud even in our room 2 floors up. There was no indication from check in staff or on booking.com that this would be the case. I think for a room costing £130, it is not un reasonable to expect to be able to modulate the room temp and also not be disturbed by events going on around the hotel. We were in room 25 for reference.
I loved the roll top bath, the room was lovely.
I didn't like the sliding door on the bathroom. There was no privacy at all. I didn't like the smell from the extractor fan.
Bar & beer garden
The room is very small & cramped
Friendly staff and good service, food was delicious, room was clean
A little dusty in places ir hall ways and carpet and staircase needed hoovering room was a mix of furniture that didn't work
The staff were very good and nothing appeared to much. The room we were allocated was nicely equipped but on the small side. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was very nice . Price was reasonable
Our double room was quite small , and even the staff acknowledge they usually used it for single travellers .
Fantastic wedding venue for us last Saturday everything was seamless and well organised and beautiful
Nothing!! It was all lovely can’t fault it
Very relaxed, the food options at the restaurant were very good
The room got very hot with a pipe tvat run through the room, but with the help of a good fan and being able to open the sash window fully we were able to get comfy-ish
Beautiful location, we had an amazing time there at a family wedding. It really exceeded expectations. Venue was gorgeous, food very good, staff were lovely.
It was exceptionally hot weather and was quite difficult to get a comfortable temperature in the bedroom. One small issue was the disco lights shining straight out at the tables. Very bright, felt a bit like we were under a search tower.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Place tired in ned of revamp. Ripped carpets and room needed deep clean black around the shower screen. Room very small did not expect that much lack of space very disappointed. Would not stay again.
Gorgeous Hotel. The room was amazing and the Sunday dinner was the best I've ever had.
Fantastic hotel, we stayed here after being married and booked a table in the restaurant for family to celebrate. Staff were exceptional and food was amazing- big portions! The customer service here is excellent and rooms are clean and roomy. We had a roll top bath and it was super comfy. The grounds were beautiful. Loved staying here.
Poder aparcar en la puerta, el lugar era muy tranquilo
No hay ascensor y la escalera del segundo piso era muy estrecha. No estaba bien insonorizado y se oía la gente en el pasillo.
Property was absolutely beautiful
Hot water in toilet wasn’t working without a loud groaning noise coming from the tap
Quiet location, nice breakfast and the evening food was lovely. Staff very nice. Rooms clean and comfortable. Good parking
The room was absolutely baking hot. My window was restricted and the fan was very noisy. It’s a little out in the sticks so you need a car or taxi if you want to eat anywhere else. Bar menu doesn’t really vary that much.
Absolutely stunning hotel and venue exceptional gardens and the food was to die for, the rooms were luxurious and the staff were warm and welcoming a beautiful hotel.
N/A
Being very rustic and the history.
Set in its acres, but pity new estates around it - sign of the times Room was very warm - not sure why - not hot weather - we did open window and there was a fan thank goodness - room done out nicely but small. But we had a good. Kew from the room. Nice antique extras around. Meal was good - but feel that the kitchen extraction could be an awful lot better - there was the smell of cooking filtering into the bar and restaurant area - not good really.
Prachtige, schone en ruime kamer!
Duidelijk is dat er behoorlijk geïnvesteerd wordt in dit hotel. De bar/restaurant verdienen nog een opknapbeurt
The staff couldn't do enough for you and the food was exceptionally good. Thank you for a great weekend. The venue was beautiful and the cleanliness was very high.
The friendly atmosphere
Iovely breakfast
Lovely bar area Large car park
Away from the village so you have to be in the hotel to get any food/drinks
3rd time staying here but the cottage studio is absolutely unbelievable
Can’t fault any of the stay
The lack of a lift is not at all good
Location and gardrens / room are lovely. Coffee / Tea / Hot Chocolate and biscuits in room very welvomed. Fan in room.
Radiator boiling hot in bathroom!! 35c outside whuch made bedroom boiling hot too!! Breakfaat included. 8-10am. At 9am minimal selection left!! No glasses for juice. No yoghurt and fruit minimal. Hot food,,,,only beans and cold hash browns and black pudding. 2 staff rushed off their feet. .VERY disappointing.this time, Hoping for improvement next visit
Food, breakfast and the chalet where great. Staff where helpful and friendly.
Chalet next door had 2 howling crying high pitched screaming dogs left in, it was 21 degrees outside (red hot inside shalets) they could be heard from all 4 chalet and the car park this was constant and went on for over an hour and a half, I paid £160 to stay in the chalet for the night so don't see why I should have to listen to howling crying dogs, so I reported it to reception the receptionist managed to get hold of the occupants they came walked the dogs and put them back in the chalet and headed back to the pub. We then heard the dogs howling crying in distress on the morning again occupant's of the chalet were inside the main hotel. I believe the occupants of the chalet where part of a large group for a wedding and felt it was not acceptable to leave the dogs in the chalet in hot conditions, spoiling peoples stay having to hear the dogs.
The upgraded to a lodge which was amazing
Lovely converted old mansion in easy reach of both Durham City Centre and the A1M
Wonderful staff - went out if their ways to accommodate our needs. Lovely toiletries (and hotel reception smells amazing) Nice breakfast, cooked to order so lovely and hot. Continental breakfast also lovely and fresh. Comfortable room, well equipped Handy location
Warm room (but fan provided) Noise from guests in cottage hot tub did carry up (fan helped drown out noise but also meant window had to stay close) and general hotel door slamming was noticeable more than in other places we've stayed. Room would benefit from a full length mirror and more shelving/storage in bathroom as there was nowhere to put toiletries.
Everything was fab!! No complaints from me 👍👍
We stayed one night to attend a banquet. The hotel was lovely, and our room was comfortable. The food was really good, and we had a brilliant evening. Thanks to the Durham ladies , who organised the event, and hopefully, we will be there again soon. Michael and Linda.

Absolutely stunning
A nice clean room in a great location.
Unfortunately, the bathroom door had glass panels which was super awkward. I could have lived without ever accidentally making eye contact with my boyfriend whilst he was pooping.
