The location and the gentleman who checked us in was by far one of the nicest people ever. He was so helpful!
There was nothing to complain about. It was perfect.
Location and the History of the Place. Great Staff!
We loved our stay here. There’s no lift, but the staff was very helpful in carrying up our luggage.
Staff, food & location excellent
Lack of lift was a bit inconvenient but that was inevitable due to the type of building

Cozy, friendly and charming with a nice sense of history. Very good dining, location. If you don’t want to deal with narrow staircases this might be an issue. Very comfortable and clean.
I suppose the stairs, but we were on the 2nd floor, so no big deal.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was convenient to be able to eat in the restaurant. The included breakfast was very generous!
Unfortunately we stayed on a Friday night and the other nearby bars played very loud music until around 2 am. Which definitely disrupted sleep.
Nice room, clean and good facilities with lovely comfy bed. Very good breakfast. Just around the corner from the venue we were visiting. Was interesting to get the history of the premises.
One of our evening meals needed reheating but this was dealt with quickly.
The White Star is very quaint and the customer service is excellent. This property is very close to the cruise terminals and depending on where your ship is docked it can be a very easy 5 min walk. With that said, check ahead to make sure your ship is close to this hotel if you want to walk. Ours was a 45 minute walk so we had to take a cab. The hotel is also a tavern in the midst of 4-5 other restaurants. Easy food options right out the door
It can get a little noisy up until midnight when all the food/bar establishments close. They do however supply ear plugs in your room. The rooms themselves are not spacious. We had a queen bed and a pedestal sink in the bathroom so there are not a lot of options for storing things or spreading out.
Historic and the staff were excellent. Breakfast was awesome.
Fix the hydraulic door closers. We were in room 17 and the door continuously slammed. It is an east adjustment.
Only stayed 1 night but very comfortable room. Quiet even after a Southampton football win on a Saturday. Staff were helpful. Included asking if I wanted to prebook a taxi to the cruise dock. Also helped with taking luggage up the stairs. Breakfast was also outstanding with many choices. Location was close to everything I needed l. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The location, the staff, the host- they provided and cared for us!

I really like the White Star Tavern. I have stayed here before. It is very comfortable and nicely decorated. The breakfast was really good. Great staff always happy to help Great location close to town with bus stop at the end of the road.
You need to be aware that if your room is situated on an upper level its quite a slog to carry cases upstairs. Follow hotel advise and if you have booked one of the higher level rooms take an overnight bag and leave large suitcases in the downstairs storage room.
Bridget and team run an excellent operation at The White Star Tavern. We have used the Tavern on many occasions which is testament to the excellent value, comfort and service delivered there. It is ideally located, with car parking nearby. The rooms are clean and decorated to a high standard, providing excellent value. It is our go to accommodation in Southampton.

Food was fantastic, room perfect. Bridget is a 💎 Gem

Leuke straat en lekker ontbijt
Location Great very close to cruise ship . Hour and half from Heathrow Airport so you need to take a taxi . Arrange before you get to Heathrow.
This is a wonderful location, close to cruise terminals, an iconic building, top-level service and accommodations.
The Staff are excellent! The manager Bridget runs a great team of people who are well trained, polite, competent and very willing to help, with a genuine feeling of unforced hospitality. My room was very clean and the shower was hot, with good water pressure, and spotless! I always look forward to a cooked breakfast when staying in a hotel, and the quality of this one was up with the best I've had. Hot, fresh, good quality, and very well presented! The hotel is on a busy street of bars and restaurants which has a great buzz. Some of the residual music can be heard from inside the hotel, but the windows are very well insulated and didn't delay my sleep. The air-conditioning worked perfectly throughout my stay even though it was 30° outside.
There was slight lack of wardrobe space in room 6 which I mentioned to the manager. They have tried to increase with hooks. It was only a tiny issue during my 2 night stay.
Location to the cruise port was great! Staff arranged for our taxi for the next morning, so Great!!!
Everything. Breakfast was amazing
Room was lovely, we were boarding a cruise the day after our stay and the staff cater well for cruisers, made us feel welcome booked our taxi to the port, held our luggage & were lovely
It’s right in the thick of everything although it wasn’t Noisy at all. Great range of beers and food and breakfast is superb. Staff were really welcoming and helpful. Couldn’t do enough for you.
Nothing
Visited with family on a Sunday evening with my young family. We were served by ‘Prince’ who was absolutely fantastic. He made a real fuss of our daughter and made us a bespoke mocktail for our daughter. He made her day and wouldn’t even accept a tip! Great pub, great location, great service from Princess.
Great location on a charming street! The restaurant was outstanding !
There is no elevator (lift) so that is a bit of a challenge, but Prince was so helpful getting our things to the first floor! The room is pretty small, but the bathroom was large and updated .
The room, the food, the staff, the cleanliness, the theme and historical pictures and documents.
Nothing
Friendliness of staff, location and cleanliness and quality of breakfast
No elevator. A bit challenging with 3 big pieces of luggage and being on top floor.
We really enjoyed our stay at The White Star Tavern. The hotel is very stylish and full of character, with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was excellent. We would happily stay here again and would definitely recommend it.
Everything wonderful!
I will stay here again if I go to Southampton. Great location, close to many historic places and cruise terminals. Phenomenal staff! Included breakfast is more than I expected in England. If there was a negative, because it is an historic building, they can't add an elevator. But staff is more than helpful in getting bags up and down the stairs. I had friends that waited too long to book and they came for dinner and staff gave them the same great service! Clean, air conditioning worked well (something we had not experienced in other places in Europe and England)! Well worth the price, especially if you like the pub atmosphere they do very well on first floor as shown by all the locals that were there.
Really simple check in/check out process Staff were polite and friendly Included breakfast was really nice!
What a lovely little hotel. Beautiful rooms. Fantastic location and friendly staff.
After only recently discovering the White Star, it is now going to be my go to in Southampton. Lovely rooms, super comfortable bed and tasty breakfast. Highly recommend.
The property and staff were exceptional. The location was great the food was great and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We stayed overnight prior to embarking on a cruise the following day. When we came back from the cruise we had 12 hours to kill before flying home. The staff from the White Star stored our luggage for us as a favour. We had a beautiful lunch there and made use of their facilities all afternoon in the sunshine. The whole experience was amazing. If you are going to Southampton you must experience this great find
There was nothing we did not like
Great location with good rooms and some nice touches in the room with a complementary bottom of beer in the fridge
Quite a few stairs but a minor issue
We stayed for one night prior to our cruise. It was so convenient to be able to stay and eat with a quick transport to the cruise terminal. One terminal is within walking distance depending on weather and bags, while the other is a short taxi ride away and the hotel will help you book it. Food in the pub was great and hotel staff were very helpful. There is no lift so keep that in mind, but they will store bags as needed. Rooms are cozy, but comfortable. There can be some street/pub noise but we got a good nights sleep in spite of it. Enjoyed our stay!
I haven't loved a hotel this much in years!! The location was close to everything you could possibly want including restaurants, the port and ferries to surrounding islands. The staff was warm and welcoming and Bridgette was a true delight! She was there at all hours with a kind word and smile on her face. The breakfast was AMAZING!!! I had a true English breakfast every morning!! Our room was clean and spacious. I didn't have a single complaint about noise and we were there on a Fri. night. We also enjoyed our fish and chips lunch at the tavern when we arrived. My only complaint is that we didn't stay longer!!! I wouldn't stay anywhere else while in Southampton.
Very Clean
Comfortable and lovely breakfast
We loved the beautiful, historical restaurant and inn. It was nicely decorated and exceptionally comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was fantastic!
The environment, services and food. Staff were very friendly
The room was too small
First and foremost the staff were uniformly helpful and friendly. We thought that the breakfast was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was also comfortable.
On the Sunday night our room suffered a lot of noise from Oxford Street that went quite late into the night. Who knows if that problem extends to the rooms on the other side of the building.
Lovely room at the top of the historic building in the pedestrian part of Oxford St. The room has air-con and a fan and all that you could need including a mini fridge stocked with water, fresh milk and a beer, all complimentary. Modern bathroom with a large walk-in shower equipped with luxury toiletries. Breakfast was delicious with hot food cooked to order and a buffet with cold selection of fruit, yogurts, cereal etc. All the staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Will visit again when we're in Southampton.
Nothing, we liked everything. Bear in mind it is a 200 year old building so there is no lift if you have problems with stairs. It is in the heart of Oxford street where all the bars and restaurants are, good for us but not if you want a quiet Saturday night.
I’ve often visited this place as a Bar over the years but decided to stay over on Saturday night so we could enjoy a night out in town! I think this place has the best Terrace in Southampton. It’s very vibrant and lively and when the suns out Oxford Street is the place to be! We were welcomed and checked in seamlessly very friendly and told that there was beer and water in the room which was great and shown to our rooms personally which was also nice! Good size room air-conditioned Big bathroom with walk-in shower had everything we needed! The best thing of all was breakfast on the terrace on Sunday morning with the Sun out, lovely fresh fruit some of the best ham, cheese and chorizo I’ve ever had and a superb full English breakfast with locally sourced ingredients! Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome all the time. I highly recommend this place to stay or just to have breakfast!
Very friendly and welcoming staff, great location, lovely atmosphere. Very good vfm. Wonderful breakfast
Good selection of breakfast options.
Room was not cleaned e.g. toe nail clippings, hairs on bed linen
Despite return visits and liking it previously, the local noise is just unbearable now. Bars have pumping music and fights on a Wednesday weekday evening past midnight. It’s got out of control and would stop me visiting again. It’s a shame because everything else is near perfect, the rooms and staff are exceptional.
I love the staff at the white star. The rooms are always clean and they have a restaurant in bar right site.
Nothing
Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed and good shower.
No elevator. Struggling aircon.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 We stayed at the White Star Tavern for three nights before our cruise and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The location was perfect—within walking distance of Southampton's shops, restaurants, and the historic waterfront, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable, with thoughtful amenities and an exceptionally comfortable bed. Although the hotel is in a lively area, we found the room to be quiet and slept very well. The staff were outstanding throughout our stay. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and happy to offer recommendations and assistance whenever we needed it. Their friendly service really made us feel at home. We also enjoyed meals at the tavern. The food was excellent, with a good variety of choices, and breakfast was a great way to start each day. The morning banter with Jack was great. Overall, the White Star Tavern exceeded our expectations. It combines the charm of a historic inn with modern comfort and exceptional hospitality. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Southampton, whether for sightseeing or before embarking on a cruise.
Everything was perfect, nice room , great good and friendly service.
Nothing
Hotel side of the pub, three floors of stairs, I would suggest taking you overnight stuff to your room and leave any other luggage in the secure storage on the ground floor. Staff will also help with luggage.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. They were able to store our bigger bags so we didn’t have to carry them up the stairs. The room was stocked with cold drinks for us.
It was too hot, and the windows can’t be opened for ventilation.
Tunnelmallinen sekä sijjainniltaan erittäin hyvä. Kadulla useita ravintoloita ja kävelymatka keskustaan.
Ilmastointi oli vähän vajaa tehoinen, ylimmässä kerroksessa oli varsin lämmin kesähelteillä
Found on are travels around southampton before joining a cruise. Location is perfect as only a 10 minute walk from the hotel we were staying in. Lots of history and good value for money. Would defiantly visit again!
Great location and nice atmosphere, food was good.
Lots of stairs
Excellent & comfortable room and facilities which were exceptionally clean. Helpful and friendly staff as well!
A bit of a lug up the stairs with bags but well worth it.
Great staff , great breakfast very clean
Colazione super!
Staff. Breakfast!
Right above and looking down from one floor up at PARtY CENTRAL!
The location was perfect, lots of restaurants up and down the street. Near a beautiful park and within walking distance to the port. The food was great. The hotel was newly renovated and very nice. Can’t say enough good things about the staff. So friendly and welcoming.
Nothing everything was amazing.
Love the area and the staff!
Very hot on the 3rd floor so AC couldn't keep up. But it was very hot outside.
Room was excellent and the food really tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful
We love to stay here when we are in Southampton! Its a small hotel/bar/restaurant with a great history. Rooms are nice and roomy, every thing is clean and comfortable. Staff treated you like you are long lost family. Food is very good too. Nice breakfast buffet and tasty dinner entrees. Easy to walk around to sightsee etc. Atmosphere sends you on a time travel to the past days of Seafarers. Lovely place lovely staff, just wish it was a bit closer to us1
The staff is exceptional, making us feel welcomed and at home.
Nothing
Quaint ,comfortable , well maintained . Staff was friendly and helpful .
Hotel was clean comfortable and in a great location. The hotel and restaurant staff were exceptional in terms of service and in making guests comfortable…very friendly and professional.

Breakfast was excellent
Had trouble getting into bed as it was to high up
Breakfast was superb, good quality food and great choice. Very obliging staff.
Very friendly staff the rooms were lovely
My daughter and I stayed at The White Star Tavern overnight, what a fabulous find it was. Ideally located for access to the city centre and ferries. The rooms are beautiful and provide everything you need. We had dinner in the pub restaurant and breakfast the following morning. The food and service were truly outstanding. A definite 10 out of 10 from us.
The hotel was perfectly located to the waterfront and cruise terminal. It was walking distance to everything we wanted and needed. The staff (especially Bridgette!) was exceptional, the room was great (11 Ranger) and the breakfast/restaurant was awesome! I will only stay here when in Southampton!
Nice outdoor area.
The cost of our evening meal was disgusting. £20 for a hamburger that we could hardly eat. The patty was dry, and the additions were minimal. Very disappointing. Our room was exceptionally noisy from a nightclub until late in the evening. Even the supplied earplugs didn't work.
Very friendly helpful staff. Comfortable beds with lovely linen & towels, excellent breakfast. This is our second stay and we will be back.
Great location, friendly staff and food was amazing!
Everything was great. Customers need to be aware that there is no lift but they make that clear at the time of booking
Staff, rooms and breakfast were excellent
Room was quite small, but absolutely fine for what we needed
A very comfortable bed after a very long flight. Such a warm staff too.
nothing
Very comfortable room
Great room; great location, great breakfast !
Nothing.
Restaurant below with excellent food!
Fabulous room with attention to detail obvious
Stairs may be a problem for some people
Close to the St Mary’s stadium and friendly staff
Little noisy later on
The room , the food, the service, the location all excellent!
The staff, the room and the location, food was also good
No parking, although there is a council one near by. The pillows were also very soft
If you’re coming to Southampton do yourself a favour and stay with Bridgette and her fantastic team at the White Star Tavern. We have experienced British pubs before, but this one ticks all boxes. All the team are friendly and welcoming. Full disclosure we stayed for 10 nights, which is apparently unusual, but from check-in we were made to feel as if we were part of their family. The hotel its themed around the Titanic and you actually feel as though you could be staying onboard. Some reviews criticise the size of the rooms but if you consider the whole 'ship' theme, you'll understand the layout concept. The rooms, public spaces and the dining area are all very clean . The staff seemed to go to great lengths to ensure its cleanliness. The hotel is located in an entertainment precinct, however the noise levels were not so extreme that it disrupted our sleep (though we did have a room on the upper floors and facing away from the street). Note, there are no lifts on the premises so if your request a room on the upper floors, you will have several flight of stairs to navigate. The staff though are more than willing to provide a porterage from reception to your room (and back on check-out). The hotel catered for meals and full bar services. There was even advertised themed evening events (i.e. trivia, local football matches televised etc), although only the local football FA Cup qualifying game was on during our stay. As stated we stayed at the White Star for 10 consecutive nights, due to its central location and proximity to the cruise terminal, so we believed that it was excellent value for money, especially given that we were treated like a member of their family thought our whole stay. Thank to the whole team for a wonderful and memorable stay. Russell & Deborah Williams - the Aussie retirees.
The breakfast was quite elaborate and exceeded expectations for a 3* hotel
Absence of an elevator but the advanced info made me expect the manageable challenge
Rien
It was as very quaint with the nautical theme throughout.
The room was tiny, barely enough space to move from side to side in the room.
