I liked everything about The Petersham Hotel. Friendly welcome on arrival, lovely standard room and the hotel looks so beautiful inside! The restaurant food was amazing and great service at all times! A great place to stay and visit!

The location is exceptional for access to Richmond and the River Thames. A grand hotel with plenty of on site parking. The breakfast was delicious and the restaurant and lounges spacious and luxurious. The room was very comfortable, stylish, clean and a good size walkin shower.

The breakfast staff were very efficient but a slightly tense atmosphere was rather strange!

great location and quiet...public areas admittedly had old world charm but I didn't care about celebrity photos and antiques just wanted a place to stay -

Slow wifi Room the size of a postage stamp. no chair for what was supposed to be a desk but a narrow glass table and a small low to the ground footstool as the 'chair' no fridge toilet about the height for a child And 3 days later my credut card is showig a charge of $A835.90 which is about $200 more that the 349 pounds on my booking.com

Great hotel and perfect location, close to every facility and Richmond high street. I visited during a very hot weekend and I would have hoped that for a £200-night hotel would provide air con, but I was wrong.

No air con in the room, making the rooms very hot and impossible to stay in during the day.

We loved our room, its decor, its large en-suite bathroom and best of all - the beautiful view towards the River Thames.

The way the bill is presented at the end of our stay was a little confusing with various 'add-on' discretionary gratuities. Each item should have been clearly described using simple language.

Perfect location, friendly staff, clean lovely rooms!

I had a lovely stay and really enjoyed my break. The room was very comfortable and the hotel itself was lovely. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would consider returning. My main feedback would simply be for the staff to relax a little and create a warmer, more welcoming atmosphere.

The staff were professional, although I found the welcome on arrival rather formal and unfriendly. A slightly warmer and more relaxed approach would have made the experience feel more welcoming. I also found the additional charge of approximately £70 for potential unspent items a little strange, particularly as I had booked room only and did not intend to use any additional services. I appreciate that this may be the hotel’s standard procedure, but clearer information about this in advance would have been helpful.

Perfect location

The first room had to be changed due to terrible smell and we were told no equivalent room . When hotel was not full as breakfast very quiet and car park empty .

No hot water and poor response from staff blaming user error. Poor facilities and no extra touches like a coffee machine or bathrobes. Breakfast was extremely expensive and there were poor choices and quality.

The room for the price paid was a shoe box, nicely decorated but window into another wall, overlooked by corridor and too hot, you expect aircon for these prices…

Beautiful building

Small rooms without much air circulation making rooms stuffy and uncomfortable. Need to install some air con or fans

Easy drive from home and the car was handy for discovering hilltop streets. The hotel is central to the best locations – walking the towpath was a pleasure, the no65 bus was convenient. Our deluxe room w view was wonderful...clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, sumptuously bedded, relatively quiet even with balcony window open for fresh air. Comes with excellent ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle. Our one meal (early 6pm) in the dining room with the 'club' menu was altogether fine. We enjoyed a performance at the Orange Tree Theatre (temporarily staged in open air), a visit to Ham House, a meal with friends at the Bingham River House, breakfast beside Richmond Bridge, and a boat ride to Hampton Court Palace and back.

I'd booked (and paid for) a junior suite - expecting a perfect view of the river and Petersham Meadow with cattle. I was shocked to discover on arrival that all the junior suites face the large typical car park directly (!) though one of the bay windows also faces the sublime riverscape. But I switched to a 'deluxe room' (would have been cheaper to start with) and everything was perfect...although I had failed to notice that breakfast was not included with either room and decided it was best value-for-money to walk downhill to a vast selection in Richmond instead.

Beautiful building with a lovely view out to the Thames. The property is well looked after and the cleaners do a fantastic job. The service in the bar was very good. Lovely big bed in the room.

Reception staff didn't come across as overly friendly, had to remind them about requests that they had forgotten. The breakfast price of over £30 is extortionate for what it was. Overall I'd say the hotel is overpriced for what it is. The rooms were hot, no windows open on arrival.

Location for a wedding at Petersham nurseries.

Luke warm welcome, we appreciate it was a heatwave but there was only one fan in the room which was ineffective. The only space which was air conditioned was the restaurant, so if you weren’t booked in, you couldn’t sit there! Access to the outside terrace was locked from the restaurant, so we had to walk outside and back up the exterior stairs just to sit in the breeze to cool off.

The property is beautiful, the room was exceptional. With a large bathroom, bed and balcony to enjoy.

The hotel is in a historic building and only has air conditioning in the restaurant so although the room was amazing was able to spend very little time in it because of the heat.

Really great location next to Richmond Hill. Very peaceful with a lovely woodland view from our room. Big room, big comfortable bed. The room had a juliet balcony which was great as we stayed during a heatwave and slept with the doors open.

The shower wasn't great- the water pressure was a bit low and as the shower head wasn't adjustable it was a bit tricky to wash our hair. Bathroom otherwise fine though. Being very picky with this one- there was instant coffee etc in the room but a pod coffee machine would be better and tends to be provided in a hotel like this.

The heat had an impact which was out of the hotels control. But I would not be able to stay again without air condition in room.

No air conditioning and a bit dated. A bit shocked to be asked if I wanted to pay in US Dollars!!! What’s that all about? Then to have 12.5% tips added to each room without asking me was a new low - again creating a dynamic of money grabbing without even asking. I refused to pay it. Left a bad taste of entitlement but more than that, it’s NEVER happened to me before like that in the UK.

Close to River Thames with great views and walks along the river into Richmond or the opposite direction into the countryside. Various places of interest to visit a short drive away. Great weather was a bonus.

Price! A little high for room and also cost of breakfast so we chose not to eat here as we are very small breakfast eaters and it would have been £36 each.

Was woken up by a hotel maintenance man using an electric sanding machine on some doors right under our bedroom window, followed by workman digging up the road again just below our window. The road was closed when we arrived and nobody on check-in had mentioned the work being done or made any effort to move us to another part of the hotel which would have been quieter despite the hotel not being fully booked. Definitely a very early and abrupt end to our romantic wedding anniversary night away - we couldn’t leave quick enough.

Great and quiet location just outside Richmond overlooking the Thames . Authentic decor and atmosphere. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good parking in front. A not too long nice walk into Richmond where one catch the district line straight into London.

Our first room was too noisy as it was near front door but we had to leave the window open as unfortunately there is no airconditioning. Amenities also lacked a minibar in room and charge points next to the beds.

There was no aircon and it was the hottest day of the year. It was our wedding night and this wasn’t really acceptable

Unfortunately our stay was ruined by the fact that there is no air conditioning in the rooms. So during this heat wave it was unbearable at night, even with the window wide open.

We had requested a river view from our room. On arrival we opened the curtains and window to find our room right beside a terrace hosting a birthday party! It was like having 10 people in the room. We had to close the curtains, change our clothes after our flight and immediately leave the room as it was too hot and we couldn't open the window to our balcony as this party were looking right into our room. I called front office explained the situation and asked for a manager to contact us. We stayed 2 nights and were never contacted by a manager. On the day we were leaving we had the same issue as we were lying in bed with the doors open to our balcony and again a group of people emerged and were looking directly into our room. I was going to mention this on checking out but the receptionist did not ask us how we enjoyed our stay or if everything was good for us. We were also over charged for 2 breakfasts when we had only had 1. Then to add insult to injury they had added a service charge!!!! V v disappointed as we could not use our terrace the evening we arrived or the morning we left when we were enjoying the room. We paid extra for this facility but may aswell not have!

Everything was great. Third time we have come from New Zealand and loved staying.

We dealt with a mixture of staff, some good, some not so accommodating and friendly. Our room was quite uncomfortable - very hard bed which for the amount being charged for a room is definitely far below expectations (rooms 109). Slightly weird smell in the room and no air con so the room was very hot. Breakfast is also very expensive at £32 plus service per person so we opted not to have it

The Petersham is simply a stylish gem of sophistication and class.

Not much not to like! But can be pricey. However you pay for a superb experience.

We extended our stay to 2 nights but found it extremely expensive @ £615 for 2 nights bed and breakfast. Unfortunately we were there during an unexpected heatwave & struggled without air conditioning, just a fan in the room circulating warm air didn’t really do it for us!!

It is located in a great position with a view across the meadows to the Thames. Just a short walk along the riverbank to the centre of Richmond. Food and service in the restaurant were excellent.

We visited during the June 2026 heatwave and without airconditioning the rooms are quite hot. At any other time it would be great.
