Southern Sun O.R Tambo

A very easy, convenient stay for an overnight in Johannesburg

Overnight stays while awaiting flights

Fabulous. Best buffet breakfast! Lovely wine and cheese gathering at 5 pm. Highly recommend!!

Liked proximity to airport for overnight stay. Room was spacious and very nice. Also like the extensive buffet dinner available. All staff were friendly and most obliging.

Excellent airport shuttle service...coming and going...on time, helpful, friendly, and professional

All aspects suited us well for an overnight stop close to the airport. We enjoyed the extensive buffet dinner after a long day and found all staff so helpful and attentive.

Fine for an airport hotel

The staff in both the hotel and restaurant were great. But the lack of privacy while taking a shower is a poor design choice. Why add a solid glass window from the room to bathroom. When the bathroom light is on you have no privacy. Keep the wall solid. Other than that it is an enjoyable place too. Transportation to and from the airport is great.

The check in process was very poor. Staff very slow and not attentive. There was a large convention and they simply couldn’t cope with it. Took a long time to check in. The line up was very long. The hotel is very convenient for the airport. Completely messed up my evening dinner.

Close to airport but needed a shuttle bus to get here from the airport.Service was great and felt very safe, although didn't leave the premises. Gym and pool area was great

Southern Sun O.R. Tambo is a good place to stay overnight while waiting for flights. The shuttle bus service is excellent and easy to access, while the hotel itself is in good condition. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and they were happy to offer a late check-out and luggage storage service.

Nice place for a quick stay, near the airport definitely take the shuttle. Don’t try walking.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY

Would stay there again. Enjoyed the breakfast and dinner options.

We had a wonderful stay!

Staff members have been wonderful. Property is a bit older but has been refreshed and is clean and very nice. It has been a great “stop-over” while on our travels. My only complaint is that the a/c unit was very noisy. Otherwise a good value and good overall experience

This was ok for a quick stay. Needs some updating.

Buena relación precio calidad para una noche de espera en el aeropuerto

Old rooms, no much plugging options, no iron in the room.

Clean Staff was very accommodating Restaurant is excellent

How can you enjoy your stay at an hotel that looks like a million dollars but the lady at reception treats you like dirt. And when you get to your room which looks excellent you find there is no hot water not even luke warm, icy cold in the middle of winter

Hotel look nice from outside and in reception but room and corridor looked dated. Dinner Thai chicken curry was poor, not spiced and came with Indian poppadom and pickle tray, not good. Ravioli was drowned in a gloopy mushroom sauce. Breakfast buffet was ok, fairly standard not exceptional in any way. Room beds were comfortable and shower was good. Hotel was cold as was Joburg but there is a heater. Overall ok for a one night stay and airport shuttle is efficient.

None

Staff was exemplary. Absolutely wonderful every one of them. Food was excellent and inexpensive.

We liked this hotel, I wish that face cloths ( wash cloths) were provided. It’s a shame to use big hand towels just for a small wash up.

Room was clean and adequate. Nice shower. Shuttle was quick and easy. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful

All good. After exiting bag-claim, it was easy to get to the bus to the hotel. The bus is clearly marked and runs every 15 minutes. Staff is very nice and attentive.

Very convenient to the airport. Shuttle runs every 15min. Great breakfast!

Very nice property, convenient and clean

Smooth

Little outdated property but that’s the only problem. Rest all good. convenient location and pleasant staff. Good breakfast. The lady who was making omelettes noticed that I was struggling with vegetarian options and made special food for me. This personal touch was amazing.

Great place to visit.

On the pulse side, easy straightforward check-in. They also host a happy hour with complimentary drinks and snacks. The room was quiet and reasonably tidy. The shuttle service to/from the airport is great. On the minus side. Housekeeping service wasn’t great. We were only supplied with one towel. That’s OK and usually easy to fix, but in this instance it took 2 calls to housekeeping and then finally a trip to reception desk to escalate to get the matter addressed Like many other reviews I agree the place looks tired and due for an update. But as a place that usually is targeted single night stays it’s quite fine.

I love the 5:00 happy hour.

Very good Breakfast and Dinner buffet. Unfortunately rooms are a bit dated and thin walls made the room quite noisy

Loved relaxing in a clean room before flying

All good, but the property is a bit dated, and rooms needing refurbishment

The property is situated very close to the airport and the free shuttle bus is very handy. The hotel is very nice but the rooms are a little tired. The restaurant has a very good breakfast buffet and the general menu has a good choice. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Wine and cheese treat in the evening was great.

Very friendly staff and convenient location.

Arrived late after a very long journey and the room had a very strong smoke smell but I was too tired to see if I could change rooms. For a well known property it wasn’t that great as I have heard it should be.

Very friendly

Great location next to the airport in Johannesburg. Excellent breakfast buffet. Service for lunch in bar was slow. Shuttle was convenient.

A comfortable overnight stay between flights. We really enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese and the relaxed vibe at the hotel. When I had an unexpected ingredient in a dish I ordered (allergy), the chef very kindly remade it for me without it. It was delicious!

Staff efficient, friendly and very helpful. Food very good. Hotel looks ultra modern from the outside but not inside. Bit of a cheat due to the false frontage when seen from the hotel window looking out. At least modernise the windows with double glazing as traffic noise very apparent due to old style fitted windows from yester year.

We had such a lovely stay at the Southern Sun while we were spending the night in preparation for a flight out the next day. We wish that we could’ve stayed there longer!

From the outside its an ultra modern hotel, but that is the mirage created for the owners glossy website and adverts. It has a skin of mirror windows and new cladding on a dilapidated vey old hotel. This is only visible from the inside looking out. But food is great, staff very friendly and beds comfortable.

Very convenient - look for the InterCon hotel and then go to the back to find the shuttle. The staff are very kind and respectful. Buffet breakfast was decent. Room was a bit dated but everything worked fine. Can't go anywhere on foot, even back to the airport. Good place for an overnight stay.

Everyone we encountered, from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, was polite, friendly, and helpful.

Friendly and helpful staff

This hotel needs updates

.

Did not experience area around property. Very quiet hotel for airports location.

It was wonderful in every regard.

Very dated, with poor upkeep to our room. The room was clean however.

Very good

The beds are very comfortable, the staff friendly and accommodating and the breakfast is delicious. We definitely enjoy staying whenever we pass through.

They service was outstanding

Fantastic everg time

Very close to the airport and very quiet. Would stay again if I traveled to S. Africa.

Staff were amazing very helpful, good breakfast. Stay away from the protea nearby - terrible compared to this hotel!

People were great!

A really enjoyable stay in clean rooms and excellent staff and good range of lovely food. My personal disappointment was no pink gin - but apparently not a common drink in SA.

Awesome hotel, convenient to the airport.

Close to airport

Good hotel

Very convenient location if in Johannesburg for a short visit or just overnighting. The hotel is a 10 minute shuttle from the airport, which runs every 15 minutes and also is free. The hotel is full service, complimentary breakfast and also has a regular bar and restaurant. The rooms are quiet and very comfortable.

We scheduled two nights separately on a Wednesday night then again on Sunday night for layovers to Victoria Falls and Hoedspruit. The first night, we checked in on Wednesday and were told we had two bookings (two rooms for the two of us). I explained to the manager that we only booked one room and canceled the other months ago. She took the necessary steps to remove the other room from our stay and didn't cost us anything. I told her that we would return on Sunday and please be sure that we wont have the same issue when we return. Well, Sunday came and we checked in with a different person/s at the front desk and had a double room booked again. I explained to them what had happened on Wednesday and was disappointed that we were going through this same issue all over again. Needless to say that they didn't give us a refund for the second room. In addition to the hotel looking tired and somewhat old, we didn't get the proper service or number of towels in our room on Sunday and a few other minor issues.

Great food, the room is dated but the linens are clean and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed dinner in the bar and the breakfast. Both options were very good.

Ideal for an overnight at the airport. Service is great and shuttle runs every 15mins 24hrs a day. Very comfy bed.

This is an airport hotel so you cant really expect to be in a garden like setting. The hotel was great, restaurant was very good. Took quite awhile to check in due to a line of guests at the same time

Staff is very rough, not friendly at all

Bra läge vid flygplatsen och dom har en fantastisk buffé på kvällen

Very accommodating. So convenient to the airport. Breakfast was excellent!

B/

Room was stuffy, torn carpet, very musty totally didappointing. The only redeeming quality is proximity to the airport

Great location, and shuttle service . Needs a fresh coat of paint . Dining was excellent

This is a great hotel at Johannesburg airport. What sets it apart is its airport shuttle services (a shuttle every 15 minutes 24 hours a day).

Only staying for one night but a really convenient hotel location for the airport. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and our room spacious and clean

It was okay, but the hotel room was worn out. Front desk was efficient and friendly. Breakfast was fine. Had to go to the waiters station to serve myself coffee after sitting there for a while. The shower wall is frosted glass facing the bedroom, which is kind of awkward unless you're with a significant other.

No face cloths in bathroom and the rooms need an uplift

The staff was very helpful especially when there were raised voices at the bar in the early morning. They quickly addressed the matter then it was quiet shortly after.

Dated hotel, needs maintenance, everything is old. Very noisy as could here others from next room most of the night.

Very clean, friendly staff and very well maintained full service airport hotel and conference center! COMFORTABLE BEDS I Recommend

The front desk made me feel like an inconvenience checking in. The ladies in the gift store really didn’t want to be there. Bar staff were okay

Nice and close to the airport but has outdated facilities.

Nice place

Convenient location to the airport. The hotel is somewhat dated but the service is excellent. The restaurant had good food but ran out of desserts. The shuttle is a bit of a walk from the airport terminal but no problems getting to the hotel. The price is highly competitive compared with nearby hotels.

Clean, quiet and convenient.

We stayed here for one night because our flight was delayed for 13 hours. It is very close to JNB. There was a small reception with drinks and snacks in the lobby and the breakfast is very good. Air conditioner in the room was a tad noisy but overall, very good for a one night stay

Friendly checkin. The welcome drinks anc snacks was an added bonus. Highly recommend

Close to the airport, with friendly staff at the front counter and the restaurants. The Breakfast and the Dinner buffet offer a wide range of options and choices, the breakfast buffet was included for us, but we also enjoyed the dinner buffet, which offers great value for your money. The room was clean and spacious. We stayed here on two occasions during our trip, and had a great experience both times.

Great overnight stay close to the airport. Airport shuttle leaves on time. SUPER SLOW service at the bar. I ordered chicken wings and chips which took 2 hours. Perhaps room service would have been better.

Extremely clean and well-outfitted.

Great

Staff are great, and standard of service is reasonable. Room, and hotel generally, felt dated and tired.

The infrastructure needs an updating. Great dining and staff

Excellent service

Great location, close to the airport. Fabulous breakfast. Easy shuttle pick up and drop off. We would definitely stay here again.

I managed to come at a busy time, not fault of the hotel, so had to wait in line to check in. I interepted as a good sign this was an excellent place to stay.
