Made to feel very welcome by Quintin, the owner, on arrival . Apartment was perfect for us; right size, well laid out, useful kitchen, large comfortable bed. Breakfast was wonderful; great choice, freshly prepared. Have to mention friendliness and helpfulness of Natasha who was on for the weekend we were there.
Access to the car park from appartments and hotel was very easy but entrance/exit for cars was through a narrow gap between buildings. You have to take care to allign your car to get in and out. We were driving a small car so no problem but big cars may have found it trickey especially if spaces were fully occupied.
5-10 minute walk into the centre with all its history and attractions. Interesting old building; we stayed in a separate building - possibly a converted barn - in the courtyard. Very comfortable with a small kitchen. Stairs were steep, so not ideal for someone with mobility issues. Excellent breakfast with a wide choice, all freshly prepared. Helpful attentive staff. Small garden with chairs.
Everything.... lovely welcoming staff, had some interesting chats with Quinton about the area and the history behind the hotel which has been family run for many years. We were made to feel more than just a guest. We had a Classic Room (7) was perfect, clean and cosy. Facing the carpark...a little road noise, mostly in the morning so it wasn't an issue... even with me being a light sleeper it did not disturb us..Comfortable bed. Fans provided. love the idea of the little wall cupboard which houses crockery and the tea, coffee, biscuits, sugar etc. Lovely breakfast cooked to order, which lots of choices hot and cold. Guests have access to a comfy lounge, a downstairs spare bathroom with shower if for any reason they are unable to use their own...also a basement kitchen area with facilities to prepare your own meals if wanted..or have a takeaway......microwave, hot plate, fridge, tableware ,table and chairs provided. This is a very clever idea for guests who don't always want to eat out. There is a wall of book shelves in the reception area for guests use. They have thought of everything. 15 mins walk into town,so it's close enough to have access to shops and restaurants and far enough away from town traffic. The car park can get busy if the hotel is fully occupied. Would definately recommend and will return.
ROOM WAS CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE, BED WAS IDEAL AND BREAKFAST WAS EXCELLANT.
It was clean, the staff were nice, breakfast was good.
It’s quite dated
Great staff great room and great location
Nothing it was fab
Tutto. L'atmosfera dell'hotel è calda, raffinata ed accogliente. Il personale gentilissimo e pronto a soddisfare ogni richiesta. Colazione ottima e per tutti i gusti.
Niente.
Great position. Very well equipped and very clean.

Everything was excellent 👍 starting from location to the food. Will go again!
Breakfast great.appartment superb.
Bit of a walk into town. No bar.
The room was spacious and very clean. Not much road noise even with the morning commuter traffic. Free off road parking. The gardens were lovely too.
Check in was very fractured, I was left not sure what was happening for several minutes. The building is old and smells musty, the room was very dated in its decor and there is no evening meal provision at this property. Town is a good 8 minute walk away although they did offer the option of having a take away delivered.
Good quality breakfast. Very friendly staff. Size of room.
Room was dark due to small window.
Nichts
Easy to find and park. Pleasant and helpful staff. Clean rooms with air con as so hot.
The basin cold water tap not working and the shower in the bath virtually impossible to use. Needs new en suite
Breakfast was great & the staff were super friendly & helpful.
Staff very friendly and rooms immaculate. Lovely breakfast. Not to far to the centre.
Nothing. It was good
The suite was very spacious, with a separate kitchen/dining area and a large bedroom. The whole place was also very clean and well-maintained. The breakfast was very good and the lady serving us very helpful and accommodating. The location was also very convenient.
The bedroom in particular was very warm, as there was no air-conditioning and we visited during the recent heatwave. We understand it is a listed building so no such facility can be installed. The entrance to the car park was exceptionally narrow.
Good place for both centre of town and easy access to move around Suffolk. All very easy and comfortable. Good breakfast. Easy parking. All round excellent.
Breakfast - excellent. Good choice and very flexible in delivery. Staff - very helpful Facilities - good Lounge area - comfortable and a real bonus
Lovely place to stay staff unbelievable will definitely be going back there lovely location great value for money
Love The Old building love the beams beautiful place really enjoyed ourselves
This is an old building, full of character and a bit quirky. A refreshing change to the usual chain hotels. Everything was very clean and well kept, and the staff were very friendly. Possibly the best breakfast we have ever had in a hotel, everything freshly prepared with quality, local, products. A bonus was Lowestoft kippers on the menu. We would stay there again.
Nothing.
Breakfast was good, shower was good, location was good for town centre. Two fans helped in the hot stay.
During the hot weather, lack of air circulation as Windows opened onto the noisy main road.
Well equipped ,
Breakfast
Breakfast and staff very good
Very old fashioned
Location and the history
The premises are centrally located. Beautiful old buildings.
We were allocated the top floor (room 5) and it was hotter than hot. Even though provided with a fan, we lay roasting in bed both nights. On the first night, other rooms were available on the floor below.
Lovely spacious apartment with the additional luxury of a hotel breakfast. Bedroom, kitchen diner and bathroom. The kitchen was basic but well stocked and the hotel also offered a guest kitchen for our use, which I would definitely have used if we had stayed more than 2 days. Bury St Edmonds was delightful.
It was on a busy road which was a little noisy with the windows open, however, they provided several fans so despite the heat, we were able to close the window overnight. The bathroom was a little dated but a good size and everything worked.
A lovely room with comfy bed and good shower, and an excellent breakfast. Very friendly, helpful owner. It was very hot and 3 fans were provided which was much appreciated! Close enough to walk into centre of Bury St Edmunds.
All good.
Lovely partly Tudor property with some nice original features. Very helpful and friendly staff. Room a good size. Breakfast excellent with various cooked and uncooked choices. Parking on site. Kettle in the room. An ultra-quiet fan was also in the room which was useful due to the high temperature. Easy walk via the graveyard into the town centre.
Note it is quite a narrow entrance to the car park.
Hotel in gezellig stadje. Ruime kamer, goed ontbijt, vriendelijk personeel.
This is a period property, a homey little medieval hotel with open posts and beams in our room. The bright bathroom had a modern walk- in shower. There’s a charming visitors’ lounge, and an excellent breakfast.
The staff and owners were exceptional and went out of their way many times to help my mum and partner and I. The hotel is small and so the service feels personal and very lovely. Exceptionally clean, a nice relaxed atmosphere, wonderful decor. I cannot fault it in any way.
Nothing
Breakfast was good Location was just what we wanted
The hotel was quiet and very clean. Our room was nicely laid out and all the things we needed were all available.
Everything was good
This property is walking distance to the town. It was comfortable enough with a good breakfast.
Pillows were awful and need to be replaced. The manager or owner whoever she was, was ok but a bit unfriendly. Despite that we enjoyed our stay.
Beautifully furnished attractive old building. Good range of different food at breakfast.
Excellent
Well/centrally located, good sized rooms with character, friendly/helpful staff, excellent breakfasts.
There was a problem with one of the shower doors, but the staff dealt with it.
Friendly staff Good breakfast Comfy bed Spacious room
L’aspect moyennageux et rustique de la chambre
The location was good to the brewery and town. Staff welcoming Clean Breakfast was very good Car park good
The entrance to car back but there is anything that can be done to improve that due to old building
The Abbey Hotel is full of character, Natasha welcomed us on arrival and could not have been more helpful. The room we had in the main building was lovely, comfortable king size bed, fluffy robes and slippers were a nice touch. Walk-in shower. Ample off road parking. The breakfasts here are really filling and enjoyable, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread for toast, and something cooked if you want it. Plus daily newspapers in the shared lounge area were well received.
Our room on the top floor was really hot due to recent weather, but there is a fan, black out blinds and plenty of windows.
Historical building ,very attractive decor, spotlessly clean, nice touches to make it feel homely, excellent breakfast.
Nothing
This hotel is amazing value. The staff are fantastic, accommodation and location ideal and the breakfast was sensational.
Perfect room Good breakfast Car charger
Nothing
The breakfast was good. The location for Bury St Edmunds centre was good.
All a bit tired and dated. Strange smells. Nothing about the place was four star.
Place seemed to have been recently fumigated. Smell was awful. Not clean.
See above.
A delicious breakfast - a good selection and the hot food was cooked quickly and with our preferred options, as requested. A very comfortable and light room. Very welcoming and friendly staff.
Traditional Tudor character interior, Exceptional breakfast - full English with the best quality ingredients served by friendly, exceptional staff who showed genuine caring for customers … and … last but not least … perfumed toilet paper … that sums it up all 🥳
Nothing, everything was as advertised.
All the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Great location being a 10-15 minutes walk from the town
There was nothing to dislike
Quaint, comfortable and excellent staff.
Comfortable, clean and spacious room
Nothing
A warm welcome.started off our visit and our stay was everything that was advertised and more. Great location, within walking distance to the town centre. The cottage facilities are superb. Home away from home. Everything is quality and beautifully presented. Lots of little personal touches in every room. The breakfast was superb. Spoiled for choice.
Nothing to say here.
Location, staff and breakfast.
Warm welcome and cosy atmosphere
Very clean, friendly staff, very nice beds and bed linen
Nice clean room, nice breakfast and friendly staff
Nothing really
Excellent service, very friendly staff, went above and beyond.
NA
Warm welcome, comfortable bed and excellent breakfast.
Fan in bathroom not working. There was very little to dislike. Excellent hosts.
Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Had everything you could need. Friendly staff. Lots of choice at breakfast and served nice and hot. Would recommend.
A little cold and less soundproof, but to be expected from a historic building.
The staff were fantastic. There is a car park with a charger for my electric car. Really comfortable bed. Lots of comfortable places to sit around the building. Great selection of books to read and games to play. There's a kitchen with a dining table where we could heat up ready meals and sit and eat when it was too cold and rainy to venture out in the evening. The breakfast was delicious.
It was a bit of a trek to the town but that would probably be fine in better weather. The shower was a little small and cramped but that's a very minor thing in an overall lovely place to stay.
Room very clean with tea and coffee available.
Bed was a little uncomfortable as mattress bit lumpy
Lovely place and setting not far from town. I had a reaction to some meds whilst there and was ill. The staff were lovely as I was quite embarrassed to be sick. Sorted my room and were very understanding and kind. Thank you will come again.

The location, friendly staff, comfy bed and amazing breakfast
Friendly staff to greet us, quirky decor, beautiful historic building, very comfortable mattress and clean room
The bathroom mirror was broken and some of the furnishings felt in need of modernisation
Great room - we had one of the rooms with a kitchen, which was excellent. The room was very comfy; light, bright bathroom. The dressing gowns were great to have. This was our third stay at this B&B - I really like its look and feel, the staff are always reallly friendly and the breakfast is excellent. Will definitely stay again. It's an easy walk into town for the market, Abbey Gardens and the many restaurants and coffee shops, as well as the independent cinema. And within walking distance of the Parkrun at Nowton Park!
Beautiful place great location staff so kind allowing us to have a early breakfast.
Nothing
Great location, very cosy, comfortable rooms with excellent friendly staff, great service and fantastic breakfast.
The character of the bedroom and kitchen
Blackout blinds needed too much light for sleeping
Welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Room in the attic with very sloping ceilings and a steep last flight of stairs.
Teilweise Einfachverglasung.
Perfect location for centre of bury st Edmund’s The breakfast was great too Spacious and well equipped rooms
The bathroom fan/shower was a little noisy Particularly when we were trying to settle down to sleep However it wouldn’t stop us booking again
Loved the little apartment, and everything we needed was provided with a smile
First night stay we did feel quite cold
Quiet breakfast
Breakfast was fantastic , so fresh , made to request. The lady waitress was so helpful , friendly and nothing to much for her
Location,cleanliness,staff & good value
There wasn’t anything particularly,it would have been lovely if there was some history to read about the place.
Brilliant breakfast
Exceptional hosting experience
Excellent courteous staff, easy check in, quaint and quirky. Large breakfast selection both cooked and continental.
Nothing
Had a lovely stay at the Abbey Hotel and apartments the host very friendly, room lovely and clean, breakfast was to die for, would definitely recommend this lovely hotel,
The inn is a beautifully restored Tudor era building. The breakfast was cooked to order and plentiful, with good coffee. When I asked the hostess where I could do laundry because we had been traveling for a week, she offered to do it for us, and returned it to us next day: clean, dry, and folded.
