Very well kept; pleasant atmosphere

Fabulous, large, clean room with comfortable bed and linens. Staff was friendly and responsive. Still doing breakfast drop-offs due to COVID - they were great but variety was limited for a week long stay.

Expensive and no service, rooms not made daily. Had to wait for the one staff member to show up and get service at the reception counter.

Love the historic feel of the building but with very modern amenities. Very quiet even though it is on the main and not too far away from dining options and shopping malls. So close to nature with lots of green space but the historic feel of the old Ancaster Village is preserved. My third stay and I really enjoyed it!.

beautiful building. One staff we spoke to was lovely, the other we seemed to be inconveniencing by existing. Also even though COVID restrictions had been lifted they are still delivering breakfast to the rooms rather than having their buffet. Which is a shame because breakfast was pleasant but underwhelming and the breakfast room looked really nice.

Very clean room and the staff was amazing -very attentive

Location to Ancaster Mill excellent nearby hiking trails with waterfalls as well. We had a couple of snow falls and thought the clearing of snow should have been better. Wonderful stay will go again.

We had a great stay at The Barracks Inn, it's a very clean hotel and the area around is quiet. The only thing we didn't enjoy is our breakfast which was not that great since it was a continental breakfast delivered to our room.

Beautiful old historic buiding

What a gem!

This is my second stay. The room that I was given doesn't look anything like the room in the photo here, left of this review box, nor to the one shown on the booking I made. This one is evidently on the second floor, which I always prefer and select when going to hotels; also the furnishings of the room I was given were all dark--nice in their own way, but not my preference. I had wanted to stay in that room shown to the left, and shown on my booking. The room given was on the main floor, beside the back entrance to the parking area, so I heard that door opening and closing often at night and in the morning before I left. In the morning also, loud voices shouted down the hall, which I think were of hotel staff. So when I refer to "Quiet" for the area of Ancaster, which is nice, I am not referring to the hotel itself. The view of the parking area was not at all appealing of course. The bright lights that illuminate the parking lot, good for safety reasons, does come through and around the window dressings, which made sleeping difficult. I like a black-out effect for sleeping, as bright lights keep me awake. I didn't fall asleep until 4am, and the bed was lumpy and the pillows too soft; there were only two in the room. The toiletries were of poor quality; the hand lotion so bad I had to wash it off. I had tried the shampoo and conditioner on my last stay, but it made my hair dry and brittle, thus I avoided these these this time. The "bottle" of wine was only 1/2 a bottle.

One of the nicest, cleanest hotels I have stayed in. The Barracks Inn has gone above and beyond with everything from easy, polite checkin to covid policies. Absolutely loved our stay…can’t wait to return!

Big beds.

This is the first four-star hotel I've ever stayed at that felt like it DESERVED the four-star rating. Free parking, free wifi, an extremely spacious and beautiful room (they upgraded us for free!) and the staff was next-level friendly and helpful. I felt like royalty.

Our entire experience was delightful, the property itself was clean and welcoming. The staff was amazing and so helpful. The perfect spot for a little staycation getaway!

Our stay at the barracks was lovely! Very clean and quiet. Staff were lovely and we were able to get an early check in which was amazing. The location is near some shops and restaurants and lovely walking areas. We had a wonderful staycation for NYE!

Hotel was very clean, staff was super helpful, very much enjoyed our stay. We stayed here to be close by the airport for an early morning flight, would definitely stay here again.

We love the Barracks; quaint, cozy, spacious rooms in the heart of one of Ontario’s loveliest towns. The staff is friendly, inviting and courteous. The location is ideal with many restaurants nearby and plenty of shopping. There is also a second floor lounge with a fire place and large covered balcony, approximately 500 sq. ft. Overall, entirely delightful.

Beautiful small Inn located in the Village of Ancaster. Very clean, convenient location. Very well appointed.

Snow and ice cleared, friendly staff, beautiful king bed & room. Looking forward to coming back soon, maybe this summer. Love the floor heating, definitely made the room comfortable.

No one was at the desk when I arrived. No sign to tell me they would be back. I scanned a QR code that I was supposed to show someone. Then I found a number to call. No one picked up. So I sat in the lobby looking on the website on whom I should call. I’ve stayed here a few times so I was surprised no one was at the desk. It was 7:00 pm. Finally someone came. Also, only two pillows on the bed and the door to the balcony has windows that are only partially covered so the top windows let in light from the parking lot.

The bed was absolutely luxurious and the shower was divine. After a day of hiking it was what we needed. Great old building and quiet as well. We will be back.

Very clean and incredibly friendly place , the staff was excellent and very Accommodating , Very welcoming and comfortable place to stay . It is definitely a 5 star all the way around:)

Immaculate property and rooms! ALL of the staff was warm, welcoming, and went out of their way. We enjoyed the room size, fabulous bath & shower, bedding, and room temp! I can’t say enough about the room temp. Silent & consistent. You don’t feel burning hot one min & freezing the next. Did I mention silent?! ❤️ We slept like babies. We look forward to returning in the summer!

Very well done building of having new amenities in an historic shell. Luxury boutique feel with large rooms, high end furniture and professional amenities and staff.

We had the Officer's Suite. Absolutely loved the stone walls. Room was likely the cleanest of any I've ever been in. Climate control was perfect. We really enjoyed the balcony and had wine out there in the evening and enjoyed our breakfast and coffee there in the morning.

Great space with a warm atmosphere. Beautiful stone building and spacious room with everything necessary. Bed was very high, so hard to get in and out of. Also, TV wasn’t working twice during a one night stay.

Wonderful old charm with modern rooms.

The outside of the hotel is a lovely heritage building as well as the front lobby. The room we had was spacious, clean, comfortable bed and pillows They provide cable as well as Netflix, Prime etc We excepted the room to have more of the character of the old building although it was a nice room. I assume the more expensive rooms provide you with more character. The only complaint we would have is that you can hear people in the hall and closing their doors. Not very sound proof. They provide a nice bagged breakfast including croissants, fruit and eggs. Hotel is a bit pricy but very convenient to the Ancaster Mill if you are having a wedding there

Wow. I don't even know where to begin singing the praises of this charming little hotel. It was exceptionally thoughtful - from COVID procedures to pure guest experience, The Barracks Inn was outstanding. Immaculate, well appointed, and exceptionally comfortable - and the staff was helpful, polite, and patient. An easy walk to restaurants (The Brewer's Blackbird was outstanding) and shopping - you simply cannot do better. When we parked, another guest was coming out to walk his dog and shouted "YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT!" - he was absolutely correct.

This is a very beautiful property and it makes you feel special to be staying there.

We quite appreciated the historic presence coupled with the modern touches. The wall art, in particular, added some warmth and mood.

I love this history behind this Inn. The staff is super friendly and accomodating. It's quiet and you can walk into town because you're on the main street

The Barracks is located in the heart of charming Ancaster, Ontario and staying here is always a delight. The staff is considerate and responsive. The rooms are quiet and beautifully done with an eye to every comfortable detail. Highly, highly recommend!

Very nice boutique hotel.

Nice Hotel. Clean and luxurious room. Everything was excellent. Only 1 Comment : Breakfast was not great - But again, The Kitchen was closed due to COVID-19 and they had it delivered from an external caterer I believe. So its understandable.

We loved our recent 2-night stay at the Barracks Inn. Our room (King Suite) was beautiful, clean and comfortable. It was a really romantic getaway. The hotel was lovely, I loved the historical elements (stone walls and flooring) and the neutral interior design. The bathroom in our room was beautiful and well designed. The staff was very sweet and helpful. We will definitely be returning in the future as it's a special spot.

Nice boutique hotel.

The room was large with a comfortable bed. Robes, Netflix, Nespresso machine - so wonderful. Big glass shower with nice pressure, two sinks, a few bathroom extras - felt luxurious. I would definitely stay at The Barracks Inn again! Thanks so much!

Had a Wonderfull stay, room cleanliness exceeded our expectations and the experience felt luxurious. Staff was friendly, building and location beautiful, made for a stress free stay. A definite go-to for a nice weekend out anywhere around Hamilton or surrounding areas!

Our room (Royal Studio Suite) was incredible. Beautiful vaulted ceiling, comfy king bed, next-level shower and tub, and a large balcony. Highly recommend for a staycation or lodging if you're in the greater Hamilton area.

Beautifully maintained, well staffed and a very friendly husky :) Breakfast can definitely be done better, but short of that, the stay was lovely. A short walk to Ancaster Mill to boot.

The Barracks Inn is outstanding! The attention to architectural detail and accompanying decor is exceptionally well maintained throughout the property. It’s closely located to every possible amenity. Best of all the bed was super comfy! The room was spacious and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. We felt very much at home during our three day visit. Oh, and the rate was excellent!

The room was beautiful. My only issue was climbing up into the very high beds. The whole facility was lovely. Staff that I dealt with were warm and welcoming. I would recommend it.

Check in was smooth, easy and socially distant. The room was very clean and comfortable. I was disappointed not to have a full length mirror in the room. Breakfast served to the door was a great touch!

Beautiful inn, tasteful and spacious. Staff polite and friendly. Really enjoyed it. The COVID breakfast consisted of pre-packaged items delivered to the door, so don’t get too excited about this meal. My guess is that pre-COVID, the breakfast would be as wonderful as all the other aspects of the inn.

Very polite and efficient. Liked the fact that you select what you want in your breakfast bag. To many hotels are wasting food by just putting everything in the bag. Beautiful rooms with amazing beds, very comfortable and clean. Loved the shower! We were greeted by the resident dog laying by the front desk, he was beautiful and extremely well behaved, in fact he did not so much as look up. He put a smile on our face and we don’t even have pets. Great hotel!

Arrived at 4:15pm for 4pm check in, room wasn’t ready and no other rooms available. Not a big deal “extra cleaning” for covid procedures which is fine but maybe start cleaning earlier then?? Also then used the excuse they were “short staffed” once again not my problem I’m paying for you to be prepared not for excuses. Did I get a discount because you were short staffed? Nope. Had a dinner reso scheduled for 5pm so they put my family in a back room to change that was dirty, no toilet paper, dried urine all of the toilet rim, crusty bathroom countertop etc. Come back from dinner at 7pm and their still cleaning our room!! Unreal. Can’t walk in our room, had to tell the cleaning crew just leave and I finally take over my room with wet floors. Nobody came to follow up with us, and there was no extra customer service provided. Friendly staff, but I didn’t get anything for my patience and inconvenience just excuses. Nice looking place and nice location but that all means nothing when the money isn’t worth it. Better off staying in a mainstream $120/night hotel where there will surely be more convenience if there is any unusual circumstances. Very disappointed, bad look here on Expedia as well for promoting at “exceptional”.
