I would like to know what the criteria is for booking at Maharan as opposed to Elangeni as booking via Booking.com doesn't ask you which hotel you want to book at. It combines Elangeni and Maharan thus you never know where you will be placed. It appears that that is only up to management to decide which guest meets the criteria for Maharan....making one wonder what criteria should one meet. Alternatively, this left to the guest to specify and if they don't specify...it's their loss.

The hotel room had Cockroachs 🪳 This is very bad for a hotel like Elangeni I reported this to reception We were upgraded to another room. The reception staff should be more friendly . The hotel has a policy of supplying only 1 x330ml water per 2 guests. I think this is ridiculous. The Elangeni Hotel at one time was regarded as one of Durban best hotels.. Not anymore

The drainage system from the bathroom was poor time to time i had to close the shower and wait to allow water to drain cause it was filling up the space

The rooms weren't up to standards, we had to move rooms because there was a funny smell in the first room and it looked rundown. The bases of the beds didn't even have covers, the carpets looked dirty and the bathroom looked bad. The rooms are very old and not maintained well. Very out dated definitely not worth the money we spent. The toilet handle was broken in the 2nd room that we were moved to and the air-conditioning had a buzzing noise.

Your carpets had a bad odor when I got in. My sinuses were getting worse.

The receptionist that was checking us in, could do with training.. she didn't explain anything..we had to ask her for everything..she just gave us a key card and a room number without even telling us where the elevators were, I think she assumed we "knew".. she didn't even explain where the swimming pools were.. and the one who checked us out, she just took the key and said thank you, she didn't ask how was the stay.. and I wanted to tell her about the bath tub stopper in our room, it was almost difficult to take a bath, so the receptionist didn't give us a chance to report that...

The room situated at corner with a beautiful view. Unfortunately maintenance is extremely poor for the beautiful room. Bath, shower and basin - a disaster. They are clean but water mixer for shower and bath are just opening same time and uncontrollable. the water stopper of both basin and bath blocked and you have to wait for water to settle. The aircon not working and when you switch it on, make a heavy sound of a tractor for sometime. I freaked when the sound came out and only freezing cold air was blown. The globe of light in the middle not working and seems there's a problem with bedside lights as they started on and off, but settle after a minute

The door is hard, the blocking basin and bath waste time, and shower and bath water continuously running simultaneously

There was no extra blanket in the room yet it was a cold weekend. I tried to call there was no answer. And i borrowed an iron on the day of arrival. I called 3 times and they only bring it on the third trial in all i waited for about an hour to get their iron.

I was disappointed the external lift was no longer in operation. Also the staff were indifferent when we had a jack hammer cango racket chase us out of our room. The service was good and efficient over all. The Indian lady at the restaurant was incredibly kind, even though they were closed, she allowed me to order a quick coffee to go.

We received a very bad treatment on Thursday and Friday 03 and 04 September during breakfast at the egg station. The lady chef that was serving there gave us a bad attitude. She just didn't want to serve us.

The toilet was dripping and making a sound the whole time which was uncomfortable and distracting. It needed to be checked by the plumber before guests could come in.

We had booked two rooms, and one room they gave us was right under a room with constant construction with drilling and banging noise. They should not check guests in to such rooms to begin with. They changed our room after we requested. The second room had cockroaches in the bathroom. The breakfast was sad and room service was disappointing. For the rates they charge, this hotel is not worth it.
