Location is brilliant for exploring Chester. River rooms are beautiful. Lovely furnished. Clean, great facilities, room was lovely and warm and it was very quiet.
Nothing we didnt like, I would recommend river rooms to anyone staying over in Chester. Had a meal at the Boat House restaurant which was equally as good. Nice to sit and watch the rowers on the river.
Staff amazing
Nothing
Location was excellent for walking into Chester, dog friendly, parking.
Nothing
It was okay
A little warm An noisy
The room was clean and comfortable with a classy decor. The shower was really good in the room also. The staff were friendly ,attentive, and even gave us directions into the town centre. The free parking was a good bonus, too.
Decor lovely Great shower
Sharp rim around carpet which was painful if you caught it with barwfeet. Very dark in the room, particularily the bathroom.

Location, staff were very friendly
The access area to the bedroom was dirty, unclean and smelt damp and musty, carpets hadn't been vacuumed, cobwebs everywhere and dirty windows. The room itself was very small, the mattress was past it's best with collapsed edges and very uncomfortable, the fan was plastered in a thick layer of dust and should not have been in the room for customers to use, the blind in the bathroom was broken such that it had to be hand rolled up and down as the chain/rope was missing, floor and windows dirty, curtains and nets missing hooks or loose. The room needed an urgent refurbishment. Other issues but think said enough...
Location and parking excellent for visiting Chester All staff very welcoming and helpful Room very clean and comfortable.
We only eat continental breakfast and there was surprisingly very little choice indeed - no croissants etc, almost no fruit. We requested some pastries etc which eventually came after c 30 minutes Others were tucking into a wide range of hot dishes - but we were disappointed
Location was great and room very Clean.
Location by the river. Quiet. Only 10 minutes to walk into the historic town centre. Carpark at the Inn. Nice restaurant
Notbing
Brilliant breakfast and large rooms
Beautiful building and location, 10 mins to town centre, nice and friendly staff, lovely well appointed room and very clean, excellent breakfast...nothing to dislike at all!
Rooms are quite close to and overlook the (free) carpark, very handy but would probably prefer an upstairs room next time.
Excellent location, lovely staff
Nothing
Beautiful location and spacious rooms
Pillows were uncomfortable and divan bed base was stained and dirty. Window was locked and couldn't be opened (although staff did try to help)
would recommend staying here perfect location for walking along the river and into town Central Chester has so much to offer! breakfast was delicious 😋 sitting on the floating bar right on the river was a delight
Everything was excellent will certainly stay again
Location and friendly helpful staff. Excellent food and plenty of choice from menus. Car parking available
El lugar. Al lado del rio
Todo correcto
The location was excellent, only a few minutes walk to the town centre. The room and bathroom were well equipped with our towels changed and tea and coffee tray replenished. It was a bit noisy when the pub turned out but that is only to be expected. A bonus was being able to park our car in front of the room for free when the details were registered with the pub on arrival.
The room was very warm, with only a small window. As we were on the ground floor we couldn't have the door open for safety reasons, however a large fan was in the room which provided some relief to the heat. Perhaps moving forward, it would be good to have some air conditioning.
Lovely stay great location
Room was very clean and fresh. Shower was amazing good pressure and heat. Good spacious room, nice sized bed. Tea and coffee facilities was very good quality. Lots of storage space. Beautiful room didnt look tired.
Room was too hot, but that couldn't be helped due to the weather. Bed was a little hard.
Everything!
Nothing
From the minute we arrived we loved the place! The manager was so helpful (she even came into the road to find us as we were unsure where to park). All staff were super helpful and friendly, from the bar staff to the head of housekeeping. The room was a decent size, very tastefully furnished and very very clean. But above all, the location was perfect. If you get great weather, which we did, it was like being in the south of France. We will definitely be returning!!!
Perfect location on the river Dee and ten minute walk to shops
Great location for travelling to and lovely riverside position. Helpful staff.
Rooms were comfortable but a little on the small side and a bit warm on the night we were there.
It’s cosy and close to the city centre. The rooms are comfortable and we had a wonderful sleep! The toiletries provided were also lovely.
The television in the room didn’t work for the whole of our 3 day stay. There was an eggy smell coming from the shower drain & then on the day we left a drain cleaning van arrived. The room lacked a fridge which would have been ideal given the warm temperatures.
Location excellent. Clean facilities. Breakfast nice
Breakfast and the floating bar
Nothing
Room well-appointed and serviced in a timely manner. Staff able and always helpful. Excellent breakfast served hot. Excellent on-site restaurant for dinner. On-site free parking. A real step up from immediately prior stay at that crappy Champneys Crescent Hotel in Buxton.
Bloody STUPID Nespresso machine for coffee. Had to buy instant coffee to use with kettle.
Fantastic location, situated right next to the River Dee. Also only about 15 minute walk to town centre and tourist sites.
Location
Very basic, small rooms. Too hot. Pub was very expensive and lots of rats!
Location is very good on the river and the restaurant has a good menu.
Very difficult to find a parking spot as it is a very popular bar/restaurant.
Location was fantastic, next to the river and boathouse pub. Room was spacious and clean
There was no Coffee or Soap in the room. Other than that, was fantastic
Lovely place and lovely staff, food was very nice and reasonable price
No air conditioning in rooms and no fridge
Liked the rooms. Loved the area. Food & drinks were both great. Staff were all polite.
Nothing
Very clean and comfortable, good breakfast and choice of meals , nice friendly staff
No. A/C no fridge
Love the spacious room Ideal location & river watching
Room was not as clean as it could be Hoover had not picked up any bits on the carpet & floor was dirty
Really comfortable. Has everything you need.
Good location. Great pub also.
Lovely location … good location to walk to the racecourse
The wait to get a parking space
always stay here top place
nothing
Room was clean and bed was comfortable Breakfast was lovely and staff very friendly
The only negative was the room was way too hot and the fan did nothing . The rooms need air con
The staff were really helpful. Lovely location. Good breakfast
Nothing really.
Lovely room, friendly staff
Nothing really
Great location and very comfortable with great service.
Lack of parking for hotel guests.
Location
No air conditioning
Loved the location
The mattress slopped either side so fearful of falling out the bed
location, superb food, excellent staff, friendly
service very slow, up to an hour for food on a Wednesday afternoon the shower has mold inside and a lot of spider webs around the outside of the room you should put up a sign warning not to eat the small round berries along the railing in the upper rooms. They are a type of cherry and are poisonous to eat. The blackberries are wonderful however.
Location and breakfast
TV not working in our room for most of the time.
Location is lovely, and peaceful. Staff really nice and food good. Great facilities and comfortable room with lovely views.
Would like a fridge in the room, for the price.
Lovely location by the river, and short walk into town.
Nothing that we didn't like. It was all great 👍
Very good selection
Coffee could be nicer
Good high end fittings in a spacious room
Mould in shower, very poor wi-fi in the room, TV menu to select a Chanel on TV a time waster, very noisy plumbing and if you are going to provide towelling dressing gowns make sure they are fluffy not hard and crusty. External staircase and walkway unswept and a tray of glasses left by the steps .
Location, cleanliness
Small rooms. Bed uncomfy, too hot. Not all staff friendly. Poor value for money compared to other JW Lees hotels. Rats outside
Easy and friendly check-in. Had a room on the end, so extra quiet. We were v comfy and had everything we needed.
There was a little grouting work that needed attention in the shower and the extractor fan was very loud. The room was a little hot but we could open lots of windows and doors and there was a huge fan. Shame we couldn't see the river from our room!
Great breakfast with lots of choice, even fresh pineapple and dried apricots. Good parking, excellent location. Lovely, helpful staff.
Poor food in restaurant. Room too hot and with only one small window it felt airless
Lovely rooms, great location, friendly staff and delicious breakfast!
Location by the river great views .
Staff are so helpful and brilliant service clean and tidy food excellent.
Large comfortable rooms. Free parking, just register.
Everything , highly recommend
Nothing
Excellent location for city. Hotel beautiful setting right on river. Staff all very helpful ,nothing too much trouble for them. Breakfast ,best we've had in a hotel, from the added extras teapot ,coffee pot lovely . Fresh soft fruit. We stayed for evening meal ,which was fantastic at a good price. Hotel with a friendly atmosphere, making a relaxing few days. We will certainly be returning to this hotel and city again
There's nothing I didn't like
Location - such a lovely spot in good weather you can sit outside. Room was a nice size with boating inspired decor. Breakfast is great with choices. Had dinner too and the food was good.
Parking is a bit of a nightmare as the hotel car park is public. We couldn’t get a space so had to park elsewhere and pay.
Comfy bed, air-conditioning was good, good shower and space by the sink to put things. Space to hang things up.
No where really to sit together other than on the bed, there were two chairs but not set up to sit together. TV set up was confusing channels were set up alphabetically so had to search up and down a very long list to find anything
Very clean, great access to town and super helpful staff.
It was definitely harder with the hot weather in the rooms but the staff very kindly gave water to help.
The location is excellent, just a few metres from the river. The breakfast was very good. Whoever poaches their eggs is a master of the craft. There was plenty of choice and breakfast by the river, watching the rowers made for a gentle start to the day.We ate in the restaurant on Sunday evening and the menu was very good and the service excellent. We dined outside and were lucky to get a table right by the river. A very pleasant spot for dining on a warm evening. There is a park nearby and pedestrian walks along the river on both sides. It is only 5-10 minutes walk into the centre. Car parking was included, but I'd recommend getting back to the car park before the tea time if you have had a trip out as it was tricky to find a parking spot around 6.00. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and polite.
We went on a very hot couple of days and stayed on a room in the old section, not the newer block and the room had no air conditioning. Although a fan was provided, it was too noisy to sleep with it on. We were both lucky/unlucky. The great weather wasn't so great at night, but a quiet fan would easily solve this issue. When we return, we will make sure we book a room with air con. Or come when it's cooler!
Location and on site parking
Room had broken vanity table, not a major issue but expected better at £159 per night
Great location and an easy walk into the town centre of Chester, excellent breakfast and staff were very friendly.
Rooms are in the carpark, which isn’t easy to tell from photos in advance. This means you get a fair bit of noise and dust from the carpark. Not air conditioned despite rooms being a fairly new build. Room not that clean - dirty outside the door with broken glass (reported), fan provided in room (33C weather) but it was very dirty so blowing dust around, bathroom needed a deep clean on lower areas.
Position was picturesque and the secure carpark was very convenient
Leaving at the end of the week
Location was perfect, right on River Dee. Nice big room, lovely shower. Great breakfast
No fridge in room. WiFi didn’t work in the rooms, only at reception
The location of The Boathouse is superb, on the river yet just a short stroll through the park to the town. Chester is a lovely town. Overall the food is very good.
Unfortunately it was noisy early morning due to the rooms being in the car park. The plumbing was noisy enough to wake you up when a neighbouring room ran water! Parking can be tricky as spaces get full and off road parking is hard to find. We had Sunday lunch and unlike the high standard of other meals it had obviously been kept warm as the potatoes and yorkshires were close to inedible.
Great location next to river
Room rather warm
The hotel is in a lovely location, right next to the river. Chester was within very easy walking distance. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The breakfast was ok but not great, it was the same for the roast dinner we had on Sunday. The room was not as clean as you would expect. The bathroom floor had sausage sized collection of dust/fluff behind the door. The whole bathroom floor had not been hoovered or mopped - possibly for a while. The upstands of tiles around the bathroom floor were also covered in a layer of dust. The bed linen was clean, as were the towels.
Great location next to the river. Good breakfast. Very good fixed price 2 course dinner.
Bathroom wash hand basin was cracked and dirty. Black mould in shower. Bedroom window locked with no key to open. General decoration a little tired.
location is riverside, plenty of seating. Lovely restaurant setting with river views. We never had an evening meal, but menu looked good. Breakfast consisted of all the usual, Choice of Fruits, continental, Full English etc.. and was very nice. The rooms were very good, clean, spacious, beds comfy, nice tea/coffee tray. Bathroom has Shower with good selection toiletries. Car park is free...
Only a minor point.. At breakfast the tables were quite small for 4 people, its essential staff remove used plates, dishes etc.. away as soon as they're finished with, they started to bring out our 'Cooked breakfasts', but there was no room to put them.. we found ourselves 'stacking plates' to make room!
Lovely staff, really nice location and good restaurant
The room was dirty - piles of dust around every corner, the shower was dirty, the carpet looked like it hadn't been hoovered. When we arrived on the first day we made sure to tell a member of staff, Chloe, who was lovely and went to tidy up what she could (i.e the shower and hoovered the carpet) and told us she'd speak to housekeeping so they'd clean the day after. However, the cleaning never happened. The room was as dusty as before and they only made the bed and changed the towels. Our room was also next to the bar's cold stores so we got woken up at 7am with a delivery being made and staff banging up kegs into stores - wouldn't be a problem if we'd been told this in advance, but we were never told. Overall, for the price of the rooms I'll never return
Kamer boven met uitzicht op rivier.
Had wat schoner gekund
Lovely breakfast, easy access and great shower room
A little slow service at breakfast the first morning
The location was superb for both the river view and a city walk. The room (21 I was accident upstairs with Aircon) was marvellous: clean and comfortable with lovely riverside touches. The food (dinner and breakfast) was really tasty and the bar/ restaurant area has a fabulous view.
Nothing at all.
Great location with onsite parking
The room was great, but very warm and the supplied fan was too noisy to have on for any length of time
Location and staff were great.
No air conditioning and hotter in room than out. Bed wasn't comfortable, probably needs replacing.
We’ve stayed loads of times over the last ten years normally twice a year .its convenient for car parking and a short walk to everything we live it . Staff have always been great .
The only one problem we ever have is the heat in the rooms . They really need to make every room with aircon as the fans supplied are just too loud to sleep
The view on the river, the bar, the staff and a comfortable room, but the room had problems. I wish that I could say more, but I wasn't there long enough to appreciate it. I would like to emphasise that the staff were first class. Due to the issues we had, and without any fuss, they tried to find a different room for us at the hotel, but it was fully booked.
My comments only apply to Room 2. A red hot room, where the only opening window had a broken latch, so it couldn't be opened, a shower that's too low to stand under (I'm 6 foot), a fan that has the volume of a 747 on take-of and being next to what sounded like a factory, the 8am noisy wake-up call wasn't appreciated. Even if the window could be opened, there wasn't a stay to prevent it from opening too far, so given that the room is on the ground floor, right by the car park, leaving it open overnight would be a security risk. Overall, it was not acceptable. I appreciate the rules for listed buildings are strict, but something could have been done to overcome the shortcomings. We stayed ony one night out of the three that we had booked.
The restaurant and bar by the river was gorgeous, plus free parking
Room was a bit small ,but had all the amenities
The view over the river
The room you could hear what the people in the other room was saying
Great views of the river and very conformable room.
Location was good clean and tidy room view of river for breakfast and dinner
Need to book for dinner. Tight car park
Loved the room, really comfy beds and exceptionally clean. Good location for walks along the river and into the city. Breakfast was lovely and a nice selection available. We didn't eat ither meals here but the Inn was busy and food looked good. The staff were also polite and helpful. Will likely book again for future visits if available.
We had to wait a while to check in but this was likely due to the time of day and the Inn was busy for food (reception in the bar).
Superb location next to the river and city centre
The rooms were ok but could do with an upgrade
Location, room lovely
Parking a bit of an issue , carpark used by visitors and using restaurant, not just for hotel guests.
The room was lovely, all the staff were great. Helpful and professional.
The vegetarian breakfast wasn't so great. The sausage and patties were dry and unappetising.
The property is very beautiful and in the perfect area. The room was spectacular and cannot wait to come back again.
Location.
Bed was too hard for us and has left with sore backs.
Very clean and spacious.
The room was a little dark
Location fantastic and very scenic being on the river Dee
Clean and tidy on the inside. However outside seating area seemed to be missed by management not being cleaned as much. Still loads of leaves from autumn just left and not swept up.
Lovely setting right on the riverside. Short walk in to city center
Food at breakfast and dinner was very good.
Service at dinner was very pleasant, but took forever to get served. So we ate somewhere else for dinner the next night.
