Bathroom is not clean

Really loved the vibe! A real hostel experience and I think not many achieve it nowadays!

The shower spaces are quite small which is okay for a few days. But also the water basically comes out from the wall and it leaks easily on the floor.

It was good, eggs, pancakes, a lot of toast and tea.

In general things were as I expected. But the day I arrived a woman asked where I was from and I told her Colombia. The first thing she says is “my favourite Colombian is Pablo”, and the next day I see her at the reception. She was working at the hostel. I was very upset that she made that comment cause is a highly discriminatory and offensive comment for people in my country, but it was even more outrageous that she was part of the staff. You can be friendly without being such a stereotypical rude person, even more when you’re having people from all around the world.

We had many issues with this property and the staff still have not replied to any of our emails to resolve any of these with us. We are extremely unhappy

Do NOT stay here. This was genuinely one of the worst accommodation experiences of my life. We booked 4 nights in a female-only dorm and ended up leaving after the second night because we simply could not take it anymore. The female bathrooms were disgusting. The hostel says they are cleaned regularly, but that was absolutely not our experience. There was hair all over the floor, and the exact same hair was still there days later. The level of cleanliness was honestly shocking. Then came the second night, which somehow made everything even worse. One person in our room had an extremely strong and unpleasant body odor, kept burping and passing gas, and the whole room smelled unbearable. When we came back that night, the smell was so intense that it literally made us gag. We felt nauseous and had to open the window because we could barely stay in the room. The next morning, the other two roommates complained very rudely that we had “made noise” opening the window and said the smell did not bother them. At that point, the whole situation felt completely absurd. We had booked and paid for 4 nights, but after only 2 we packed our things and moved to a hotel because staying there any longer felt impossible. That alone should say enough. The bathrooms were filthy, the smells were unbearable, the overall hygiene was awful, and the whole experience made us feel uncomfortable and disgusted. Honestly, avoid this place. Saving a few pounds is NOT worth ruining part of your trip, feeling sick every time you walk into your room, and counting the hours until you can leave. If you are looking for a hostel in London, choose literally anywhere else.

Nice hostel, clean and comfy.

Really friendly vibe, really relaxed and homely. I had my two kids , one is high ADHD with me and tent were made to feel really welcome. Great pile of games and few toys, including Lego. Great feel to the outdoor space. Location is really convenient as food shops near by not overpriced as in much of London and 5 mins to tube. It took us 20 mins to get museums and other attractions we wanted to see. Overall a positive stay, we would like to return.

I don't like saying any negatives as it's a great place. But it was a bit annoying we couldn't check in for half HR after arrival as kids where knackered after a long journey. Some rooms are not near the loo. And although overall the staff where some of the friendliest and most accommodating, of any hostel we have been too, one young staff lady did not have a good way with customers.

The breakfast was included which was nice, and the location really close to an underground station was really handy. There is a small supermarket just around the corner.

The overall cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. The bunk beds are incredibly wobbly and creaky, and the overall soundproofing is quite non-existent, so sadly our group slept really badly.

Unser Dreibettzimmer war sehr schmal, verfügte über ein Waschbecken mit Spiegel und ein Bett mir drei Etagen. Die Gemeinschaftsbäder waren sauber, es standen ausreichend Duschen zur Verfügung. Gut fand ich das separate Frauenbad. Im Hof konnte man gut sitzen und es gab eine Küche für die Gäst*innen. Die Atmosphäre unter den Gäst*innen war gut, der Aufenthaltsraum war gut besucht. Sicher findet man als Alleinreisende Person hier schnell eine*n Gesprächspartner*in.

Am mittleren Bett fehlte eine Strebe, die die schlafende Person am Herausfallen hindert. Ich wünsche nachfolgenden Gästen, dass diese ersetzt wird. Das uns das Englische Frühstück nicht zusagen wird, hatten wir schon geahnt. Das liegt aber nicht am Angebot, das war für den Preis ok. Ich hätte mir nur "richtigen Kaffee" statt Instantkaffee gewünscht.

The hostel check-in was efficient. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable and the free breakfast was very good.

La zona è traquilla e ben servita, la tube si trova a pochi passi. Il letto era comodo e c'è a disposizione un bel giardino interno. Anche gli spazi in comune sono molto carini. Lo staff è composto da ragazzi molto giovani e tutti gentili.

il mobilio credo sia preso dai mercatini dell'usato, ma a parte questo non era del tutto funzionante. Io avevo scelto la soluzione camera doppia con bagno e colazione. Il bagno era piccolissimo e aveva un lavandino simile a quelli del treno, tutto così piccolo che per lavarsi il viso era necessario mettersi di traverso e comunque si bagnava tutto il pavimento. Per la colazione, su richiesta si potevano avere le uova e fagioli, però si creava una certa fila e quindi non le ho mai mangiate. La pulizia non è proprio contemplata.

There is an atmosphere of community as people gather in the common areas, and I appreciated the free common breakfast. The price was competitive and the location comfortable.

Cleanings in the bathrooms where not sufficient. Also, the moquette on the stairs was quite stinky. I had an unpleasant experience with people working at the reception. I forgot my document there and they were not collaborative at all with helping me having them back. It really seemed they did not care at all.

I like the friendly environment the most.

Nízká cena a dobrá poloha. Možnost skromné snídaně zdarma tvořené cereáliemi, toastovým chlebem, marmeládou, arašídovým máslem, pomazánkovým máslem, čajem a kávou. Navíc paní v kuchyni dělá vejce, párky, lívance a fazole, ty jsou ale jen na příděl.

Hodně záleží na lidech, které máte na pokoji, to nejde ovlivnit, nicméně počítejte s hlasitým chrápání..

Me gusto la ubicacion esta muy bien, pero en el aseo le ase falta a las abitaciones y su contorno,pasillos,escaleras y sonas comune, ademas deberian desinfectar o fumigar hay fichos yo e salido de ahi picada en mi cuerpo y con unas ronchas rojas grandes.el personal esta bien solo le ase falta mas limpieza.gracias.

In a great location very close to Earls Court Tube station, shops, restaurants and grocery stores, St James Backpackers is easy to reach and a great base for exploring London. The breakfast is great and breakfast staff friendly and helpful: each guest gets one freshly cooked egg, some beans, toast, coffee, tea and juice. The workout area in the back courtyard has free weights and a pull-up bar which is great in most types of non-rainy weather. It was a heat wave when I was at St James, but I still managed to do some pull-ups and bench presses. They also had a friendly old kitty cat I spent some time petting.

Ugh, that sudden Key Deposit that requires Pounds Sterling CASH ONLY. Why? The main guy at the Reception was a miserable jobsworth who seemed deliberately unhelpful. He was training a friendly young guy the night I checked in and overruled every friendly or helpful word and suggestion his trainee uttered. That main guy insisted I go to an ATM (it was after 11:30 pm when I arrived to check in) and get him British Pounds for the Key Deposit. Why? they are just going to give it back to me. It could be any currency. He also would not store my fresh liter of milk, saying the kitchen was locked because my pointless trip to the ATM made me late to lock my milk in the fridge. But there is another fridge right there where he sits, where he could have let me store my labeled liter of milk. He refused, saying the morning staff would not want to deal with it. Just then, as I pleaded with him, two resident women who work as morning staff arrived, and I asked them, is it ok to store my milk in that fridge right there, since the kitchen is locked til 6am? They said, sure, and the bossy jobsworth guy overruled them. I have stayed in hostels for 30 years and I have NEVER been so offended and poorly treated by a check-in guy. He even dragged out the old "if i store your milk for you, I could lose my job!" and "if I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone." What 'everyone'? i was the last one to check in, and only missed the kitchen fridge because he insisted he couldn't take 20 Euros or 20 dollars for a deposit just for one night. ? I hope he doesn't work there anymore, because the facility and ALL other staff members are very nice, helpful and accommodating. Oh, and St James needs to buy some electric fans. My room was way up in the roof, and it was burning hot in there with no way to keep the window open (i had to prop the sash up with the dust broom from the hallway). The front desk people have a fan, but no rooms have one.

Too many levels and narrow stairs. The bathrooms are not in the same level as the bedrooms. Staff, including volunteers not as helpful. Building needs some renovations.

The venue advertised all you can eat pancakes, but they’re limited to 2 per person - no problem with it, but the venue should update this so as to not mislead people.

Personal muy amable y buen desayuno. Buena ubicación, cercano a tiendas y a estación de metro.

Los camarotes están un poco viejos. La presión de agua en lavamanos de los baños es muy fuerte y moja todo. Podrían agregar papel para las manos en los baños. También el desayuno sería aún mejor si agregaran algo de frutas.

Burada ikinci kalışım oldu öncelikle. Akşam yemeğini kaldırmışlar bu eksi söylenmedi üstelik. Yatağımı üst kattan istemediğim halde değiştirmelerini rica ettiğim halde ilgilenilmedi. Bazı yatakların altı boştu üstelik sadece taşımaları yeterliydi yapmadılar. Çalışanlar maalesef evsiz insanlar bu yüzden özensiz buldum ve temizlikte çok iyi değildi bu sefer ilkine göre

Cheaper than many hostels in central London

Dirty bedsheets, no curtains on bed, dirt toilets, gross roommates who seem to live there. Way to hot no fans or aircon

Location

Toxic, dirty environment. Cleaners are volunteers who live for free! Staffed by volunteers and staff who have nowhere else to live. Tosh is rude and discriminatory. The workers smoke weed all day. Disgraceful. The owner just takes the money and drives his Porsche around like a prince.

The bathroom was always dirty, zero privacy, uncomfortable, the price is to high for what they offer

Hébergement très sale, particulièrement les sanitaires. Couloirs bruyants, nous avons dû intervenir en pleine nuit pour demander moins de bruit. Le petit déjeuner est offert mais très basique avec des produits bas de gamme. A éviter.

The hostel had a little improvised library that you could borrow books from. The reception was open 24 hours.

During my one week stay I had several problems, all including some kind of mistake with the computer. First my reservation wasn't in their programme eventhough I booked and paid through Booking. Then they moved me from the all female room because of some renovation works to a mixed room. Then 2 days later told me it was the wrong room and moved me again to another room but moved my stuff while I was away. There was a quiet time after 11 but the doors don't have knobs so everytime someone entered or left the doors would slam. The breakfast was advertised as buffet but the only buffet thing are cereals while the cooked food (sunny side up egg, beans, sausage and pancakes) are served by the staff and there was a rule of one egg per person. The bathrooms were wet all the time and the soap dispenser and hand dryers were broken. The facilities in the rooms were sometimes ok, and sometimes not. Some rooms had shelf, other not. The safes had holes. The power outlets were broken or not strong enough, my charger couldn't charge my phone during the night. The garden furniture is outdated. So, if you're staying one or two days it's fine. But for a longer stay pick some other hostel because this one is not comfortable at all.

Personnel hyper sympa. La chambre était petite, mais fonctionnelle avec un lavabo. Les parties communes sont grandes et bien équipées. La terrasse est très chouette. Le rapport qualité-prix est imbattable.

L'explication du petit déjeuner était trop succincte. Nous avons compris après que nous aurions pu demander des pancakes et des œufs. Dommage 😋

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It is conveniently located near the underground, and there are shops nearby. The room was clean, and my roommates were quiet and polite.

The only thing missing in the room was individual lighting for each bed. There is only one main light for the entire room, which is quite inconvenient - especially during late-night check-ins, as it disturbs other guests who are already sleeping.

There were so many volunteers, the hostel was like a “Big brother tv show” everyone living in the hotel made the guest feel like un-welcomed. They were not super clean as well, that was a bit weird.

La propreté est à revoir. Le personnel n'est pas très arrangeant (J'ai demandé si il y avait un service de bagagerie la journée, ils m'ont dit que non mais qu'ils pouvaient garder mes affaires derrière le comptoir. Quand je suis arrivé, ils m'ont dit que c'était pas possible et qu'ils s'étaient mal exprimés...)

Nothing, I moved out the next day, after paying more a single room with a locked door.

Dishonest advertising of the hostel. This place is definitely not a place to go for young adults travelling. It is more of a place for people who have nowhere else to go, eg locals who have no home, not young travellers. Felt unsafe for the 16 hours I was there. Corridors dark, Taps not working, needs a huge amount of basic maintenance.

Mulheres: não fiquem neste lugar. Não é seguro. E cuidado com a nota alta no Booking, ela não reflete a realidade. O hostel tinha nota 7 no Booking, com diversas avaliações positivas, o que nos passou segurança na hora de reservar. Fomos completamente induzidas ao erro. Chegamos animadas depois de meses de planejamento, mas antes mesmo de entrar já fomos recebidas por um cheiro forte e desagradável, nada parecido com as fotos do anúncio nem com o que as avaliações descreviam. Esperamos cerca de dez minutos até sermos atendidas na recepção. Ao conhecer o local, o desconforto começou de imediato: nenhum mochileiro, nenhum turista, apenas pessoas em silêncio, sem nenhuma bagagem de viagem convencional. Já sentimos que algo não fazia sentido. Como o check in só liberava à tarde, deixamos as mochilas e saímos para aproveitar o dia. Voltamos por volta das 19h, já receosas pelo que tínhamos visto pela manhã. Na porta, um homem sujo reclamava sozinho porque não encontrava ninguém na recepção. Pensamos que fosse um prestador de serviço aguardando algum reparo. Não era. Ele era hóspede, assim como diversas outras pessoas em visível situação de vulnerabilidade que encontramos em seguida, o que aumentou nossa apreensão a cada passo dentro do hostel. Fomos até a cozinha guardar uma garrafa de vinho na geladeira e não havia nenhum espaço disponível: estava lotada de alimentos com prazo de validade vencido. A cozinha havia sido tomada por um jantar sendo preparado para diversas pessoas, refeição que não fazia parte da nossa diária e da qual não tínhamos conhecimento prévio. No quarto, a cama tinha roupa de cama suja, sem ventilador e sem ar condicionado, cercada de malas enormes que não pareciam pertencer a viajantes de mochila. Mas o momento mais grave foi no banheiro: descobrimos que era misto, sem qualquer aviso no anúncio ou no local, quando um homem simplesmente entrou enquanto estávamos ali. Foi o instante em que o desconforto virou medo de verdade.

Personalet er søde og hjælpsomme, og stedet ligger i en smuk victoriansk bygning. Den er tæt på en stor Tesco og et vaskeri. Der er kun 5 minutter ned til Earl's Court Station. Morgenmaden er ok men basal (toastbrød, cornflakes, og så er der 1 æg + små pandekager og bønner pr. person).

Jeg blev angrebet af væggelus, og det var meget tydeligt, at stedet kæmper med dette problem. De lukker sovesalen, man skal fjerne sin bagage, og så sprøjter de med noget, hvorefter man ikke kan være på værelset i mange timer. Det hjælper dog ikke, da lusene sidder i bagagen, som ikke behandles. Jeg valgte at finde anden overnatning, men jeg fik kun mine penge retur, da jeg kunne dokumentere lusene med billeder. På stedet bor der desuden flere tvivlsomme personer, som ikke går op i god hygiejne og dit/mit. HUSK en hængelås til skuffen under sengen. Personalet gør sit bedste for at holde stedet rent, men det bliver ikke gjort til bunds. Der er mug/skimmelsvamp og skidt på badeværelserne samt tis på gulvene. Der er to bad i kælderen kun til kvinder, men trappen derned er meget stejl og noget af trappen mangler gelænder. Gårdhaven er fin, men der bliver røget både alm. tobak og andet. Jeg mødte nogle søde mennesker, men jeg kommer ikke tilbage til dette sted.

Great for a budget-conscious stay, but unfortunately I had some unpleasant roommates. Otherwise, it's okay; it's a hostel, so don't expect much.

Decent location. The room (twin) was a good size.

There’s a few things. My bed was missing one of the slats underneath and when I sat on the end I nearly went through. It did smell damp and could’ve done with a little clean. Basic but for the price it wasn’t too bad. The main issue was the noise, there’s a rule for certain hours of quiet time but people were still messing about, running and even banged on our door, this lasted until gone 3am which wasn’t ideal as we were up early. The quiet time rule was not enforced by the staff and due to the thin walls you could hear everything. Another thing is that staff tried entering our twin room, they knew we were there as we’d checked in but there were two times when someone used their key to get in, one time was while I was showering, luckily my friend told them to go. If you stay here do expect absolute basics and bring some good quality ear plugs!!! the fridge is also loud but if it’s turned off the mini freezer inside will defrost and leak. I’d also recommend you bring your own pillow, it was the lumpiest thing I’ve ever had to sleep on.

Disappointing stay and complete lack of management accountability (July 2026) My stay at this hostel from July 10–12, 2026, was characterized by significant failures in service and facility maintenance, which I have documented with photographic evidence. Failure to provide booked services: My booking explicitly included dinner. This service was not provided on the second night (July 11). Despite this being a clear departure from the services I paid for, no compensation or explanation was offered. Condition of the facility: During my visit, I observed the following, which I have documented in the attached photographs: Hygiene: Public areas and dormitory floors showed significant accumulation of dirt and debris. Infrastructure: Bathroom facilities were in a state of disrepair, including broken shower fixtures, significant visible rust, and recurring flooding in both shower and toilet cubicles. Basic Amenities: Lighting was frequently non-functional in private cubicles, and the facility consistently ran out of essential supplies like toilet paper and hand soap. Room standards: The dormitory design rendered power outlets effectively unusable due to their proximity to bedframes, and the rooms were subjected to extreme, unventilated heat. Lack of professional engagement: I attempted to resolve these matters directly with management by sending formal complaints on July 13 and July 14. As of this date, they have failed to provide any acknowledgment or response to these communications. Because of the failure to provide the promised services and the lack of response from management, I am now escalating this matter through Booking.com and my financial institution to recover the costs of this stay. Future travelers should be aware that my experience with both the facility standards and the management's customer service has been entirely unsatisfactory. La canicule n'est pas du ressort de l'établissement, mais RIEN n'a été fait pour réduire le désagrément. Rien. On m'a parlé comme à un adolescent. en ces circonstances exceptionelles, l'accès au jardin frais pendant la nuit aurait dû être toléré. ça n'a pas été la cas. C'est scandaleux. C'est de la non assistance en personne en danger. J'ai passé le pire séjour de tout ma vie car je n'ai pas fermé l'oeil de la nuit. ça a gâché mon séjour. J'ai demandé un ventilo à prêter cela m'a été refusé.

This is a dirty, filthy accommodation. No cleaning stuff. Toilet papers everywhere on the stairs. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Breakfast is terrible, mainly contains high sugar portion.

Capisco che questo caldo è anomalo per Londra ma una struttura deve attrezzarsi per ogni evenienza..Ho pagato quasi 100 euro a notte per una camera buia e soffocante con la finestra sul cortile senza grate e la notte dovevo chiuderla per sicurezza. Il giardino poteva anche essere carino ma spesso sporco e alcuni clienti lasciavano piatti e bicchieri sporchi sui tavoli. Hanno un gatto ( io li adoro!) che non utilizzava la lettiera, penso non ne avessero una ..ma faceva i bisogni per terra e spesso vicino ai tavoli c'erano i suoi escrementi.

The level of cleanliness was not great. Mold in the showers and I am not a fan of unisex bathrooms. Especially when traveling with young girls.

Très bien situé, très convivial. Petit-déjeuner et repas du soir compris dans le prix. Le staff est sympathique. L auberge dispose d un bel espace extérieur.

Très bruyant... La chambre était située au dessus de la salle commune où on pouvait entendre les clients parler fort jusqu'à 2 heures du matin... J' ai aussi passé un très mauvais séjour dans le dortoir à cause d'une personne qui occupait le lit voisin. Elle vivait là depuis des mois, entourée par ses grosses valises encombrantes qui prenaient toute la place. Elle passait tout son temps dans la chambre, à faire du bruiit... ouvrant et fermant sans cesse ses bagages et froissant des sacs plastiques dès 6h du matin. Elle ne parlait pas aux occupants de la chambre et avait manifestement des problèmes psychologiques. Cette situation était très oppressante, surtout pour moi qui occupait le lit voisin. Malgré les signalements et plaintes à la réception de plusieurs clients, rien n'a été fait pour changer la situation. Je n'ai reçu aucune compensation sur les 4 nuits passées dans ces conditions.

The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good. The room was more than satisfactory. The common area was very good. The location was excellent. A very nice atmosphere for meeting people.

The sink in the room is quite small, and there's a cupboard right above it, making it difficult to use.

Отличный хостел в Кенсингтоне, очень хороший приличный центральный район. Утром приятно прогуляться по улочкам, рядом метро и куча автобусов. Хостел с молодежным вайбом, просмотры кино и вечерние игры и мастер классы. Есть бесплатный завтрак (английский завтрак) и даже ужин (!). Ребята, которые работают, очень нацелены на хорошую атмосферу. Общая гостиная очень комфортная, а самое крутое - есть задний двор со столиками и лежаками. Кровати достаточно простые, но матрасы хорошие. Душевых несколько, есть отдельно женская, всегда везде чисто было. Фен дают. Оставляла багаж до заселения бесплатно, разрешили даже позавтракать утром до заселения. Старое историческое здание. За эту цену в этом районе было очень душевно

Хотелось бы кровати более современные со шторками. В номере нет шкафчиков, есть небольшой сейф-коробка пол кроватью на человека. Места в комнате немного

I was woken up 1 H10 am on the 6 of July to tell me I must leave give my bed was booked.i booked until 7 the rubbish in the room not removed shower very small .to have 1 pound taken out of my £11 deposit.that was bizare.otherwise no complaint except my back was taken downstairs with out notification.i taught someone stalled my stuff.good people's stay there .very tini room for 8 beds But the food breakfast compensates.snoring small room over pact

La ubicación es excelente. El personal muy amable. Tienes desayuno y cena incluida si quieres. El desayuno era correcto (la cena nunca la probamos). Gente de todas las edades, no sólo jóvenes. El patio es fantástico!

Nosotros teníamos la habitación en el 3º piso (arriba del todo) y los wc estaban en la planta 0 o en la -1 en el caso del exclusivo para mujeres. Sería conveniente que hubiera un wc en cada planta (duchas mixtas sí que hay en plantas, menos la superior). El colchón no era cómodo y las almohadas muy finas.

Ubicacio Concepte de comunitat ja que tot es compartit i has de netejar els plats i gots que fas servir per esmorzar. Silenci irespecte dels usuaris .

M’ha semblat preu excessiu per les instal-lacions ( es un edifici vell) però és el preu estandard de Londres

Les repas gratuits et conviviaux, le personnel très gentil et les espaces communs d'une taille raisonnable pour le temps passé à l'intérieur de l'auberge. Le quartier est super et beaucoup de choses sont facilement accessibles à pied et en transports (station de métro à 5 min à pied). Tout est très bien expliqué à l'auberge et ils ont beaucoup de recommandations.

La connexion Wifi qui n'était vraiment pas fluide et ne fonctionnait pas vraiment. La surprise de découvrir que l'on partage sa chambre avec des 50/60tenaires hommes (et quelques femmes également) dans une auberge de "jeunesse". Je savais que la crise du logement à Londres était difficile, mais on ne se sent pas forcément à l'aise en tant que jeune femme autour de tous ces ronflements. Beaucoup ont l'air d'y vivre pas seulement d'y séjourner. Ah oui et pas un ventilateur, et avec des fenêtres à l'ancienne qui s'ouvrent difficilement (séjour lors de la canicule), rend l'air de la chambre vite étouffant. Les rideaux de ma chambre étaient en partie cassés et ne couvraient pas toute la fenêtre, difficile de se protéger du soleil pour garder un minimum de frais. C'est dommage, fort potentiel d'amélioration!

Our private double bedroom was dirty and smelly, the only ventilation was a window that led to a noisy and smoking garden. The toilet had no ventilation and smelled very badly. The staff were new, tired, and didn't know where the rooms were, so we climbed up and down stairs with heavy luggage (no lifts). The facilities were extremely dirty, the stairs that led down to our room were steep, mucky, and the carpet loose, which made it a severe hazard. Our "private" room was right next to the shared toilets, which made the corridor even smellier than the room. Terrible value for money (£180 for one night, same as a 3 star hotel!). I will never come back.

Rooms were very Hot, no airflow making it difficult to sleep when it’s warm - ceilings fans or AC would be a good addition. Showers/toilets are very run down and old, does the job but aren’t necessarily very clean
