Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The hotel was ideally situated for our needs. Good location. The staff were very helpful and there was a good selection of food served at the restaurant.
Parking was very limited. However there was lots of free parking within walking distance.
Room on fraont of property on second floor - lift level wih new annexe art bqack so few stairs to climb. Room cleean and comfortable. Fiull size bath with shower. Good selection for breakfast and chef willing to cook variations of the menu. Excellent Pale Ale.
Lift level wih new annexe at back so few stairs to climb - but adds to the ambience of the warrren like feel of the coridoors. Limited parking on site but free council car park immediately outside that available until after checkout. Cobbles in yard so suitcase wheels make a loud noise while pullinng along.
Good breakfast. Clean rooms.
Nothing. I have stayed previously.
Convenient for us - comfortable and clean room.

Breakfast and overall stay Very good For a property the age it is priced correctly Plenty of place to chill out Car park worked well for us And staff friendly We will be back
Noise from outside drinking area as it got later into evening
The staff and a very lovely old hotel with loads of character
Nothing
I loved the history behind the hotel and how friendly the staff are!
I didn't like how the have parking setup for their guests
Lovely, atmospheric pub.
Room a little dated, but spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed. Great shower too ☺️ Lovely towels.
Location
Superior room wasn’t exactly superior
Clean and location
Putting 3 pensioners over 70 on the 3rd floor and the lift only reached level 2
location.
thin walls alot of noise. breakfast no one to greet me helped myself to what was available which wasn't very hot had almost finished when i got asked for room number and if i would like tea and toast.
Staff are lovely and friendly - bar lovely and cosy
Food quality at breakfast
Our room was very large, great bathroom, clean and not over fussy, plenty of mirrors and seating. Bed was good. The pub on the back of the pub was traditional and lovely, staff were so friendly. We came back at midnight and still managed to get a drink at the bar.
The weather. Breakfast was a buffet, never my favourite, but reasonable. Parking even in overflow carpark was tight at lunch time, we got lucky. It was fine to park when we got back at midnight.
Excellent staff, food and service! Special thanks to Dylan, Dave, Marketa, Millie and the chef! The location was great, beautiful hotel and had a fabulous couple of days
I loved everything.
Great staff. Very helpful as I brought my cycle with me. Plenty nearby to get dinner etc.
The hotel was really nice had a cosy feel to it. The facilities were excellent The staff very friendly and professional very helpful. The bedroom was warm but there was a fan to use tea and coffee refilled each day. A real home from home I really enjoyed my stay and will return.the hotel was very central to all the amenities in the town
We wanted fried eggs and vegetarian sausages. The hostess took the order with a welcoming gesture and ensured our request was met properly. We were delighted with the way she handled this.
Nothing
Very comfy bed and a good shower.
Dated rooms, looked nothing like what we looked at when booking. Not enough staff on for breakfast kept having to ask for things, sausages and bacon was not hot just warm on our second day, would only give it 5 out of 10 rating.
A lovely hotel with very pretty hanging baskets at the front and round the side. Very friendly and helpful staff.. Our room was clean, with comfy beds and a fan. Love the bottle opener on the wall! Breakfast was excellent. We'd definitely stay again if we're in the area.
The room could do with a double plug on both sides of the bed. Parking could be a problem if you can't get in the small carpark.
Location
Rooms were a bit like a boarding school. Sink next to the bed and toilet / shower in separate bathroom. Quite old and archaic.
Food great staff helpful and friendly
shower really hard to operate scolding hot
Amazing staff
Nothing
Comfortable room, good facilities, excellent food all at very good price. Sadly so many towns are now dominated by hair dressers, vape shops, charity shops, and hold little of their original charm. However the river walks are so beautiful and several good pubs still survive.
Good location, nice welcome from staff
Nothing, good value for money
Perfect breakfast
Water in room Improved shower pressure
The room was cosy and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful.
My door key wasnt working when I returned late from an event, but staff rectified the problem on request and came to check I had managed to get in my room.
The location to our family
It was very noisy at night time as the accommodation over looked the outside bar areas
Lovely cosy hotel. Comfy beds, great breakfast and friendly staff.
Very cozy and charming with great character
For some reason the Sunday morning breakfast goes from table service to buffet and I have to say it went from very good to very poor
Nice location and great value
N/A
Central location accessible to rest of town. Large room. Large breakfast.
Bar was slow service to say it was not busy. Appreciate costs are high and staff have to do more than one job these days but to be stood around with no one behind the bar to serve for too long was annoying.
Breakfast was pretty good the pub itself was very old school and charming. The parking at the back was a big plus and the location was very good too. We had a nice brunch sitting outside in the terrace area in the sunshine. The shower in the room broke with tradition of pub accommodation and was super powerful which was a nice surprise.
The staff were not exactly helpful at breakfast and when we asked if there were any more croissants 10 minutes before the breakfast cut off time we were told that no more were available as breakfast was "finishing soon". In general it felt as though the management style was a little officious and not overly welcoming.
The bar and lower restaurant area really cool vibe and decor showed character
The rooms very out dated dusty and just the word is out dated it has so much potential to look at least a little nice
Localisation géographique
Propreté de la chambre négligée : présence de poussière et de toiles d’araignées dans la chambre et la salle de bain. Par ailleurs, la chambre aux équipements obsolètes mériterait une rénovation de fond en comble.
Very helpful and friendly staff Excellent breakfast
Some of the areas looked a little tired
Lovely staff and good location. The bar and dining areas were nice.
The room and facilities were old and dated. There was mould on the ceiling of the bathroom. The room is in desperate need of updating
Quirky building with characterful decor
Very warm room, a fan had been provided to help I’m not sure having the bathroom heated towel rail on helped. One of the long life milk pots must have been past its use by date as it resembled yoghurt on opening. The hot breakfast items were lukewarm and on requesting a latte we were a little surprised to hear that was extra.
Very friendly helpful staff. Great onsite food. Good price.
Friendly staff and location was perfect
The carperts were dusty,no fridge in the room, had to ask for shower gel from reception! And breakfast was very basic
Lovely hotel in a lovely location and food is beautiful too here ❤️
The hotel is in Newport Pagnell High Street. There are frequent number 2 buses to and from Milton Keynes city centre and station (the bus stop is about 5 minutes walk away). The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable, The fan by my bed was a nice touch. The room rate was reasonable. Would stay there again.
Nothing really. However I stayed on a Thursday night and there may be a noise issue on Fridays and Saturdays. I did not have the breakfast, which I thought a tad pricey. But all in all I would stay there again.
Location and nice bar
Far too hot and one of the windows didn’t stay up. They did provide a fan and we took the duvet out of the cover but it was baking all night. They could have kept the room cooler by leaving the curtains closed during the day. We were only given one bath towel for two of us and didn’t discover it until getting out of the shower, so had to use a hand towel
Everything, room comfortable and clean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Very clean, staff absolutely great, cooked breakfast delicious and good quality produce
Comfortable and quiet
Very very limited parking
ALL FABULOUS AND ACCOMODATING
Nice property nothing fancy just basic amenities in your room but comfortable and clean not much room ok for the weekend, no air con in the rooms and they were very very hot the small fans placed in there wee not adequate.
We came out of breakfast and as it was very hot in the rooms we went and got some cool drinks and coffee from the shops across the road. We sat out side on the benches and tables, at around 10:30 they opened the bar area and we were told we couldn’t stay there and drink our drinks as they had opened the bar we had to buy from the bar which I thought was a bit rude as we were guests as to which I did explain this and the bar and cafe was open when we went to sit there after our breakfast, as paying customers of the hotel I thought this was bit out of order it wasn’t like we were stragglers off the street.
All the staff are really friendly and helpful, great breakfast and service.
The room I had was great but very noisy because of the bar courtyard below.
Comfortable room. Superb Breakfast. Great Location.
Bar Prices.
Staff were nice, breakfast ok had poached egg and bacon, bacon overcooked. Allowed us an extra 30 mins in room to try and grab some sleep before onward journey
Room was up endless stairs, staircase uneven, didnt feel safe carrying luggage. Room was hotter than it was outside, small window found a bird on windowsill so curtains stayed closed, window pulled to, fan in room just no impact. Sleep due to stifling heat poor. Bathroom new suite but toilet too close to door. Just poor in comparison to previous stay. Absolutely no view other than rooftops
Very Helpful Staff , Food Very Good
The Window Latch in my Room Needs Replacing, The Window Was either open Full , or just A little bit open , No in between , Preferably like a room overlooking the High Street, a bit more Quieter
Centrally located Clean rooms. Towels etc Tea coffee making facilities in room
Needs attention to attachments in the room, ie soap holder falling off, towel tail and loo holder loose
We have stayed here many times, on this occasion we had a family wedding to attend. The hotel was located conveniently. We have always found the hotel to be comfortable, clean and good value for money.
We had booked four rooms for ourselves and our family for two nights. One of the rooms had very poor water pressure and the shower in particular was affected badly. There was a note in this room to say that the low pressure was due to the local water authority reducing the pressure during the current extremely hot weather so my son accepted that this was why there was a problem until he realised on our final night that none of the other rooms we had booked were experiencing the same problem. As I had booked all the rooms initially I reported it to the reception staff the following morning whilst checking out. I spoke to the receptionist who said we should have reported it sooner. I explained about the note displayed in the room and that was the reason it hadn’t been reported. Strangely, none of the other rooms we used had a note regarding low water pressure. The receptionist did not seem to know about the note but did apologise and offered to find another room with a shower that was working properly to use that morning but by this time my son and his wife had already used the affected shower as they had a long journey home and needed to leave. It very much looked to me that the note had been put in the room to excuse an existing problem. There was no offer to refund any part of the charge for that room for any inconvenience caused. We were staying at the hotel during a heatwave. The rooms were understandably very hot and stuffy but fans had been provided as there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms apart from the dining room and reception areas which was very welcome. It was necessary to keep the windows open overnight and as a result those in our party who had rooms at the front of the hotel found it quite noisy. Our stay was over a Friday and Saturday night so it may well be much quieter during the week. I would also mention that parking is a problem sometimes at this hotel.
Very central, staff friendly
We had a front room and the road noise woke us up
Friendly staff
The coffee needs attention, too week.
Booked on day and friendly receptionist found was still loose on desk. Good full English breakfast and selection of cereals.comfortable bed. Fan provided as no air conditioning in older part of hotel over looking high street. Slightly faded glory but enjoyed the maze of corridors. Bed comfortable, coffee making facilities in room. Ironing board used on shirt to good effect.
Previous reviews complained that hand basin in bed room and not en-suite. Was looking forward to having a basin in bedroom so can do teeth etc while spouse using en-suite but only had basin in ensuite. Reception offered to swap but I had already unpacked so “made do” without the hand basin in the bedroom.
Exactly what we expected. A comfortable pub in a small town. Property had parking, clean and tidy. Great meal in the restaurant and friendly staff.
Our room was upstairs and it was very warm without air conditioning. Low ceiling entrance to bathroom - good for hitting heads on.
Good location and good value for money
Central on high street
Nothing
Always stay here when we visit family
Room 201. Sink in the bedroom and separate toilet with shower. Slightly awkward Rooms are extremely hot in the summer even with a fan in the room and the windows open it can be quite noisy whatever the position (either facing the high street or the garden area )
The Hotel is very old but works well with how the layout is inside. Clean and welcoming. Has a small car park lots of outdoor seating.
Although a lovely old hotel the bedrooms need updating so the wash basin is in the bathroom. I know it’s an old property but I disliked having the basin in the bedroom and not in the toilet/shower room. Other than this it’s a lovely hotel.
The location was suitable for our needs The breakfast was ok
Our room ( 105) was directly above an outside drinking area. The noise was deafening, I complained at 11.30pm and was told due to World Cup??bit no tv etc… Still going on at 12.45 am! £85 for a noisy , tired room ! Never again .
Great location. Friendly staff. Food was really good with an impressive breakfast.
Room decor very old fashioned. Shower/loo smelled of drains. Basin in room. Temperature that day was exceptional, but the heat in the room was horribly oppressive even with the fan. Outside bar below window meant staff were talking until 2pm. I was booked for two nights, but checked out after one.
Aircon would have been nice⁸
Great location to various pubs and restaurants. Staff are amazing.
No Air con. A little dated but probably to be expected due to the age of the building
All very helpful and excellent customer service
Comfortable bed
Nothing
Location and staff Breakfast was nice
The room was extremely hot The toilet towel rail was on (heating) Fan was provided but the room was really hot The toilet was clean but had a bit of smell

Location
8.9/10Central High Street location, 'perfect' for visits and frequent buses to Milton Keynes praised; limited parking is a noted downside.
Room Quality
7.3/10Rooms are described as dated but clean and comfortable, but multiple comments about excessive heat, ineffective fans, windows and staircase issues reduce the score.

7.6/10Onsite bar/food is good, but lack of fridge, no air conditioning, limited parking and occasional missing toiletries lower the amenities rating.
Value for Money
8.6/10Several guests note reasonable room rates and good value; one comment called breakfast a tad pricey but overall value is positive.

8.9/10Food and cooked breakfasts are frequently praised as delicious and good quality, though a few reviews mention basic breakfast options, overcooked bacon and bar prices.
