Beautiful room let down entirely by the service.
No one to support check in, check out and we had to beg for cutlery and a coffee at breakfast. 5 star hotel with 2 star service.
The bedrooms
No lift for elderly people in main hotel and one guest in the outside rooms.
Very clean , stylish, comfortable rooms, great bed. Fantastic breakfast with local produce
Nothing
It was a beautiful place to stay. Everything was lovely.
Nothing at all.
Loved the staff, decor, facilities,; it was perfect
It was perfect. There’s nothing more to be said.
Lovely hotel very clean and lovely staff. Fabulous breakfast.
The rooms are very small and very stuffy and warm. Lots of stairs as well to go up and down so not great if you have walking difficulties
The room was comfortable, albeit the bed was a bit small and the bathroom was lovely!!
We could not get the EV charger to work!! The bed was a bit small for a double bed!
Well kept and clean property and rooms. Staff were very helpful and warm. Breakfast was good
Nothing to mention
Great
Everything
Frisch renoviert, sauber, mit Liebe zum Detail geschmackvoll eingerichtet
Lovely staff, nice and clean
Restaurant times for dining. 1 restaurant entry up to 7.30 and went to their other one and they stopped at 8pm.
The decor
We had to wait a very long time for our breakfast. They said they weren’t expecting so many people. Well it was a Sunday and they should have been more prepared.
I always enjoy staying in ancient coaching inns, with their randomly twisting staircases, and the feeling that you're somewhere that has been the heart of the town for hundreds of years. But - whereas often part of the charm lies in the 1930s electrics and the beer-drenched carpets - the Lion and Swan has been absolutely beautifully renovated. Everything is elegant and lovely, from the modern bathroom to the delightful L&S logo. On top of this the staff are both efficient and friendly, and the breakfast delicious (with real expresso available, not just the jugs of stewed brown liquid in more traditional establishments). Plus Congleton town centre has a great vibe on a Friday night, lively but welcoming. Might come back here for a week's holiday.
The EV chargers. One of the reasons that I chose this hotel but... they don't take cards, you have to download and give all your personal data to yet another bloody app. And they want to charge you £6/hour for time that you're in the slot but not charging, which is a good thing generally but not great if you'd planned to charge overnight. And you have to top up your account in advance rather than just pay for what you've used, no clue whether you can get the unused top up back again. And then turned out the only free charger was "offline"... anyway, there's a couple of Osprey chargers down in Stonehouse Green Car Park
Absolutely beautiful- amazing staff and service. Excellent breakfast and a very kind upgrade!
Rooms were very warm- staff were quick to offer fans and this made a big difference.
Excellent breakfast, location was fine, all in all a decent hotel
Air conditioning in this hot weather would have been good
Good central Location with free parking. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was superb.
The breakfast service was very slow on our last morning as a wedding party arrived. The room for one couple in our party was cancelled late on and they had to make alternative arrangements.
The rooms were spacious, clean and we're well stocked, , great on site cat park, beautiful decor inside and the food when ready looked and tasted good.
Getting attention if staff could be quite difficult, waiting for a staff member to be free to help with check in as they ran between bar, tables and check in desk. Was staying with friends and they were told they had to stay at a sister hotel for the first night in advance and were told that on the second night they could stay with the rest of us. On the day of the move the hotel team phoned the sister hotel to tell them they didn't have space instead of phoning our friends directly. Dinner on the first night there was a long wait for food and same for breakfast on our last morning. All In all it felt like there was a lack of staff, we were told there was some sicknesses so understandable but did affect experience and a lack of communication with guests.
Convenient and clean
Not enough staff, service was very slow
Beautiful large room with fabulous bathroom and roll top bath. Helpful staff and great food
Nothing
The hotel was beautiful, staff are super friendly and can't do enough for you. Our room was beautiful and spacious, exactly what we needed.
We had 2 rooms booked during a heat wave. One room was ok as it had a lot of windows to move the air around, we had a fan in the room but it was still warm at times. The other room was stifling hot and could not cool down at all. The rooms would benefit from air conditioning units really, even portable ones as the fan just blew hot air around. We had to keep the room door into the corridor open at times to create some air flow. Everything else was lovely, but the hotel needs to invest on how to keep their guests comfortable in hot weather.
Very nice rooms, very clean
Service at breakfast and the bar at night was very poor. Nearly an hour wait for food
Ambience
We stayed in May as this was a get together with friends. We were staying at the Lion & Swan but dining at Pecks Restaurant. The staff were excellent, one of the couples had a problem with their room but this was very swiftly resolved. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was lovely clean spacious and accommodating. I’m pleased that we paid extra for the upgrade. I’m unable to comment on the breakfast that was included as we didn’t have any.
When you enter the room there is a step which could be hazardous for some people and maybe should be mentioned when guests are checked in. We didn’t have any issue with this.
overall good service - highly recommend it to all
Rooms very clean and quiet. Evening meal and Breakfast was superb. Perfect stay.
The hotel was clean and bright throughout with good quality furniture. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of hot food to choose from. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was very centrally located in Congleton. The breakfast was excellent and the rooms well provisioned for most stays. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Upon arrival it wasn't 100% clear where I should enter to check-in. The main entrance looked like a restaurant to me and it was difficult to find someone to check where to go. After staying there, it seems silly that I couldn't figure it out, but tired travellers are often not the most logical beings. Also, it was very difficult to make contact with the hotel before my stay. This made it difficult to confirm some of the details that I need to straighten out before my trip. However, when at the hotel the communication was excellent.
Welcoming staff and great value for money.
The room was very hot, but a fan was provided and on when I entered the room.
Location good Easy car parking Nice rooms and bathrooms
Location
Rooms a little dated

Breajfast
Lots of character and a perfect location from which to explore local heritage and gardens
Good room with a large bathroom and excellent shower (and rolltop bath, but I didn't use it). Really comfy bed and the room had everything I needed for a couple of nights.
It seems to be the norm for hotels to all have fancy coffee machines now - which this one also did - but I would have preferred a kettle for an easy cuppa.
Clean and comfortable and fun pictures
Nothing
Very professional helpfull staff.
No information about the carpark on the websiþe. This may discourage guests booking the hotel.
The room was exceptionally luxurious and full of style. Original beams and windows, slipper bath, loads of space. The hotel in general was beautifully and tastefully restored. All the staff we met were exceptionally helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
With all that space when they restored it, surely they could have installed a lift. The stairs are steep and awkward.
Lovely decor and feel
Although it was clean, the bathroom had a smell
Great location and history. Nicely done out
Too hot, shower could have done with a door
Overall, an excellent stay with good food, excellent staff and a really good location. The parking facilities were e top notch!
Ran out of salmon and orange juice for our second breakfast
In middle of the town
Bit noisy at pubs closing times
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, great location. Easy parking. Powerful shower and plenty hot water.
The wet room shower room tends to soak the whole room so make sure towels are well out of reach of the spray. Couldn't get the fancy coffee machine to work. Would prefer a kettle
Gorgeous hotel and location, the rooms were decorated nicely and clean. The water pressure in the shower was amazing and the food was great. The staff were super friendly and helpful when you asked for something. Overall a great stay and would recommend!
It was a little chaotic, we arrived and no one was at the reception and they weren't sure our rooms were ready (they were thankfully). Breakfast and checkout the next morning was the same a bit chaotic, the tables had dirty dishes on for ages and weren't cleaned up, only one person taking orders.

Good location in town. Very clean and comfortable stay. Loved the walk in shower.
Lack of staff in dining room and bar. Tables were left with dirty breakfast plates etc for over two hours as shown in photo below. Reception to book in and out was tiny and in an awful position.
Beautiful interiors. Fab decor. Spotlessly clean. Excellent parking. Photos don’t do it justice
Nothing it was perfect
Car parking
Really pleasant bar staff, comfy room Perfect for me as i am a nurse and work across the road
No netflix streaming option
Hyggeligt, flot gammelt hotel
Udvalget ved morgenmaden var meget lille.
Excellent location. Good breakfast. Shower was very good .
One staff member could have been more helpful but others were fantastic. Bedroom was very, very warm which made sleeping difficult even with windows open . Radiator in bathroom very warm.
Clean, well situated, friendly staff
Maybe needed a few more staff on
Location
Smell in the bathroom
Very good and a great choice
It was very hot in all areas of the hotel especially the bedroom although there was a fan provided which was great. I am a particularly hot person so that might not apply to all.
Very clean and fantastic location
Room was very hot but that’s not a bad thing
Well appointed rooms, comfy bed and a great shower
Nothing
car parking at the hotel, we always got a space even though it was busy
Breakfast taking too long to be provided from ordering
The hotel was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The room was pleasant and had all the facilities you would expect from a hotel room.
No air conditioning in the room, but all windows were operational.
Mooi ingericht hotel, zeer schoon. Locatie ook goed, vlak bij centrum. Eigen parkeerplaats voor gasten. Uitstekend ontbijt.
Superbly renovated. Great staff.
Late night was a little noisy… old ceiling above creaking.
The modern decor, ideal location for our stay, main dining rooms spotlessly clean, clean and comfortable bed.
The room was lovely but cleanliness could have been a bit better. Being a cleaner myself I noticed the dressing table mirror top and behind the table was dusty. The carpet behind the dresser I noticed dust settled on the top so hasn't been hoovered in detail for a while. There were also some food traces on the window ledge of the room? The cooked breakfast was nice but unfortunately we seemed to have been given both different types of bacon for the same meal? My partner asked for scrambled eggs and was given fried eggs with two pieces of obviously shell in the egg white. We did like our stay just little things could have been a bit better.
Breakfast was great value. Could swap items on breakfast and have as much as I wanted as it was included in price. Bed very comfy.

Great location, beautiful buildings, lovely staff
Nothing not to like
The hotel is lovely. It is nicely decorated and had a choice of 3 different bars to eat. We ate in Pecks Restaurant on our first night and it was wonderful.
The breakfast service was beyond slow. On Saturday we ordered two fruit salads which took 45 minutes. On Sunday we arrived at 10am and just ordered an omelette and poached eggs. By 11am we enquired where our breakfast was and we still had to wait so we told the staff to cancel our order! Not ideal with a 3 hour journey home ahead of us! Additionally, I booked a Deluxe room. The room was really nice but located right next to the kitchen extracts which were running most of the day and well into the evening so if the window was open all we could smell was cooking food. The view of the kitchen roof and extract system wasn't great either for what we paid.
Beautiful hotel and decor
Nothing
Breakfast was ok took 40 minutes from order to being served .Small portions of main items ..Loverly dinner didn't get asked if we would like any sauces with the main .
For the price of an executive room a bath should be available no kettle in the room
Friendly staff
Food was excellent
Slight drain smell in the bedroom
Food and character of building
Carpet “ran out” before it reached the window
Very comfortable, staff were professional and helpful
At times there were not enough staff around. When we were checking out there was nobody at reception. We had to wait for the person serving breakfasts to be available.
The decor. The shower was fabulous. Our meal was delicious. The staff were very helpful
Location excellent, big comfortable rooms
Corridor to room smelt of food
Lovely venue in centre of the town. Plenty of free parking. Immaculately clean and comfortable and stylish decor. Delicious breakfast, we had excellent value Sunday night B&B deal. Welcoming and helpful staff.
Only tiny gripe , I'm not a fan of coffee pod machine in room, a faff and never hot enough. Had I stayed longer I'd have asked for s kettle.
Very nicely and clean and smelt nice and a comfy bed, breakfast was really nice
Check in was a bit confusing and thought the steak sandwich was bit poor for £15 as I thought it would be proper steak but it wasn't
Lovely rooms and lounge areas.
Great location great service and amazing food
Homely and high end
Beautiful hotel. Loved the connecting bar too. Very interesting.
Nothing to dislike
The breakfast was excellent. The Omelete was excellent. Cooked perfectly, and the selection from buffet good. The staff attentiveness and friendliness was very good. The evening meal was also great quality. I had a meat and cheese board to start and a hot chicken salad and both were of the highest quality. Well done to the chef and bar / waiting staff.
