Had a wonderful stay at Freehand LA! We were on Level 5 in Room 505 (King Room), which offered great street views. The bed was super comfortable, and house-keeping was top-notch—staff cleaned the room, changed the bedding, and provided fresh towels daily. ​The location is ideal for getting around. It is an easy 10-minute walk to 7th Street/Metro Center station, which connects you directly to Hollywood Blvd, Santa Monica Beach, and Universal Studios without any line transfers. For everyday groceries and essentials, Target and 7-Eleven on Figueroa Street are just a 15-minute walk away (skip the nearby Whole Foods Market if you need basic household essentials, as their selection for everyday basics is quite limited). ​The rooftop pool was a highlight—cozy, comfortable, and maintained at a single depth of 3½ feet throughout. It’s open from sunrise to sunset, making it a perfect spot to relax before or after exploring the city. Would definitely stay here again!

Things That Could Be Improved: ​The mini-fridge in the room was not working and failed to keep anything cold. ​There was no microwave or kettle, which would have been a great addition for guests wanting to make tea or instant coffee. ​These were minimal negatives overall, and we would definitely stay here again!

屋上がプールサイドBARになっているので、夜も少し騒がしいのと、場所的にもギリ安全というくらいのところなので、昼間はいいが夜は気をつける必要あり また、耳栓あった方が夜は静かに眠れると聞き、初めて着用して就寝しました そこまでうるさくはないが、クラクションやサイレンがたまに響くので、あるとより良いかも

Room wasn't ready for 4 hours when we arrived. Pool was dirty and there was a dangerously drunk person there we had to provide a witness report on.

I stayed here for four nights and I really liked it. The best part was the atmosphere. The dorm was friendly and easy to talk to people, and the ballroom is a great place to hang out in the evening. I met a lot of other travellers there, which is exactly what you want in a hostel. The location is very good too. North Beach means you can walk to Chinatown, Coit Tower and the Embarcadero without taking a bus. Breakfast is included, which helps a lot because San Francisco is expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for the price. I would definitly come back.

Nothing really. A dorm is a dorm, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

The website advertises free parking. But parking is in fact $66/night. Downtown LA is also tough.

De locatie is niet top. Het is centraal in LA maar wel downtown, met alle gevolgen van dien. Veel straatlawaai, stinkende buurt, veel drugs, niet zo veilig om 's avonds alleen rond te lopen. Je auto zou ik zeker niet op straat parkeren! Je kan veilig (betalend) parkeren om de hoek bij joe's parking 808 Olive St.

The location is very practical

The lights in the room were too dim. The bathroom curtain was damaged. The water was constantly hot with no option for cold at the bathroom sink. The iron table was broken. One of the USB port was broken as well. All in all it seemed like it was not well maintained.

Il degrado della zona. Mancanza del frigo in camera, nessun piano d’appoggio, mancanza della televisione.

El hotel es muy céntrico, de fácil acceso y tiene muchos servicios cerca. El restaurante del hotel muy bueno y todo el personal muy amable. Las vistas desde la piscina son espectaculares. El hotel está todo reformado y con buen gusto. El baño estaba muy bien. Pedí en recepción un secador y me lo dejaron sin problema para todos los días. Las habitaciones que dan al patio interior son muy silenciosas, pudimos descansar muy bien.

El tamaño de la habitación. Nosotros éramos 4 y no cabiamos con las maletas. Es cierto que solamente estábamos en el hotel para dormir pero es cierto que no es una habitación para estar allí gozando de la misma ( no hay televisión tampoco -para nosotras no fue problema porqué solamente íbamos a dormir). Nosotros estuvimos alojados en una habitación con 2 literas quizás las de 4 camas son más ámplias.

Struttura un po' datata da rinfrescare, letti da cambiare. Noi eravamo in una quadrupla con letti a castello con struttura in legno, scaletta centrale fissa, e bordo alto per potersi sedere.

Nice staff, the hotel has a nice decoration and is very well located. Staff is willing to help and provide information about locations, places, etc. I was lucky to have the chance to storage my food in a launch place in the basement, but the last day that was eliminated. LA is very expensive, so having the chance to storage food is a wonderful possibility to save some money. The pool area is very nice and I had the chance to join a movement free class.

I had a really nice stay in the hotel, nothing to comment about except that they do NOT reimburse the money they charge as a deposit/security fee. In the description they say that they will (tricky) but they don´t. I stayed for a business trip and extended my days for holidays, and NO fee deposit was reimbursed in BOTH credit cards (corporate and personal). I checked with both banks, tried to reach out to the hotel and nothing. I stayed during May 2026 and it is August, so... Crossing my fingers Booking or Freehand can give some explanations about it.

Location in the vicinity of the Skid Row should have been brought to our attention when doing the booking. One of the saddest areas in the US. Felt really bad when encountering so many homeless people. And they are not to be blamed, No soap in the shower, no TV, no fridge, no coffee machine, could not open my suitcase in the room, had to fit it on a bed to do so. Sheets disappeared of my son's bed. 800 USD for a not so memorable stay. Swimming pool pics (AI/Photoshopped?) proved to be mood crashing when reaching the rooftop.

WHOLE FOODS MARKETがとても近く、メトロの駅も徒歩圏内なので、立地はとても良かった。

ファミリールームとは名ばかりで、ドミトリーの4人部屋かのような設備。テレビや冷蔵庫もなく、掛け布団は薄い毛布一枚でシーツもない。部屋の電話もなく、用がある時はその度にフロントまで行かなければならなかった。チェックイン後すぐに部屋の変更を申し出た際、次の日からは追加料金なしでキングルームに変更できると聞いた。次の日にフロントに行ってみると、部屋を変更するなら500ドルの追加料金がかかるとのこと。前日の内容が引き継ぎもされていない。 4つ星ホテルとは、何を基準に判断されているのか疑問。我慢を強いられる滞在だった。

Le prix du voiturier est très excessif 65$ sans les pourboires pour garer le véhicule dans un parking derrière l’hôtel qui coûte 30$ la nuit.. c’est limite du vol et de l’arnaque pour vos client. J’ai pu économiser pratiquement 250$ en me débrouillant seul Beaucoup de SDF à proximité de l’hôtel et le quartier est vraiment bipolaire.

A Fantastic Stay with Great Vibes and Service! My recent stay at the Freehand Los Angeles was an absolute pleasure from start to finish! While my room wasn't quite ready when I first arrived for check-in, the front desk staff handled the situation wonderfully. They immediately offered me a complimentary drink voucher to enjoy while I waited, and true to their word, they brought my key out to me just 10 minutes later. To top it off, the bellman, Noah, was extremely helpful and took my luggage right up to my room. Overall, my stay was truly great. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the room itself was very nice—clean, stylish, and comfortable. I would happily stay here again and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting downtown L.A.!

A hotel created out of a 1940's (?) office building has a lot of retro charm and a great rooftop bar as well. If you want modern, this is not your place. Very quiet for a city hotel. Very comfortable with great staff

My first time in LA and Im so glad we stayed at the Freehand. It’s close to a lot of good restaurants and attractions so easy to get around. The hotel’s ambiance is elegant and staffs are very friendly. Special thanks to Kevin, Liz, and Noah for helping with my luggage at check-in. Suhai from housekeeping was very nice when she delivered extra amenities, she gave us some good recommendations of what to do in LA.

Hadn’t been back since COVID, and Lobby looks so much cleaner than what I remember. I have to say, the rooftop is amazing! Amber was such a vibe and made the experience even better. Suhai was also so sweet when she serviced my room and even gave me extra towels because she knew I was heading to the rooftop pool. Definitely want to come back with friends next time! And thank you Noah for helping with my luggage!

לא ניקו את החדר יומיים ואחרי ששאלתי למה הם אמרו שהם מנקים פעם ב3 ימים (לא ציון בבוקינג או בצק אין של החדר ובדרך כלל מנקים כל יום, אם לא אז מציינים שפעם ביומיים- פעם ב3 ימים לא נתקלתי עדיין) החדר קטן מאוד ולא נראה כמו בתמונה בכלל. המלון לקחו חיובים על שירותי החנייה תוך כדי השהייה ולא בצק אאוט כמו שנהוג ורק אחרי שביקשתי קבלות הבנתי על מה חייבו (גם לקחו מהפיקדון ששמתי בלי לאשר איתי למרות שבצק אין אמרו שזה יוחזר וחיובים לוקחים בנפרד) היה יום שביקשתי עוד מגבות לחדר כי לא ניקו ולקח להם שעה וחצי להביא אחרי שהתקשרתי עוד פעמיים. שירותי חנייה של המלון עולים 66 דולר ללילה. המלון במיקום טוב יחסית אבל נמצא 3 רחובות משכונה של הומלסים אז לא היה נעים להסתובב בלילה. חדר כושר בסיסי מאוד. המתגים של התאורה עם עוצמה שאפשר לבחור, אבל העוצמה הגבוהה ביותר הייתה חלשה

The extra $30/day room fee when house keeping only came 3/4 times. I was charged 6 times. Free water in the lobby was not available around the clock. Didn't necessarily agree with the $168 Resort fee, I don't think is justifiable based on size of rooftop pool and tight seating area.

Our first room smelled like urine. Got changed to another room. Beds are thin, bedding is uncomfortable. Lighting is all dim, no hair dryer, mini fridges barely got cold, no microwave no gym. Always took forever to find a staff member. Not worth the price

Common spaces were great. I loved sitting on the rooftop deck by the pool, and the lobby area had tons of seating available.

The quad room was tiny, dark, and the carpet looked dirty. I wish there were curtains to hide the beds so you could feel a bit of privacy. Because of this, I spent as little time in the room as possible and went to either the pool or lobby.

I was very comfortable here for a few weeks largely thanks to the warmth of the staff. A big shout-out to Noah and reception team who always welcomed me in the door.

the photos do not match the facilities. the quad room was less than half the size of the photo and smelled like feet. there were q tips and band aids behind our desk in our king room. the pool has plastic and hair floating in it and really that roof does not look like the photos.

Bel endroit, jolie chambre et décoration. Cosy et propre. piscine et terrasse magnifique. Personnel très sympathique et accueillant.

L’insonorisation des fenêtres car la nuit il y a beaucoup de bruit dans la rue et cela raisonne. Le quartier comme tout le centre ville n’est pas très bien fréquenté comme dans toutes les grandes villes mais l’hôtel n’y est pas rien.
