Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Room was clean, plenty of tea and coffee, comfy bed and good shower. The breakfast was also very good.
The walls are quite thin, we could hear talking in neighbouring rooms quite clearly. The TV and remote looked very well used, and were a bit out dated. The building itself looks a little tired, certainly more hostel vibes outside than hotel, but does the job well enough for a night or two.
Location and very clean
Nothing
It was clean and smelt clean too. There were ample refreshments in our room, and breakfast was included. There was a good selection of items to chose from the breakfast buffet.
I suppose like everything else in life currently, everything is remote and faceless. This was the checking in process. Whilst even we could do it, it was impersonal
Cheap and cheerful and a good base for touring the area. Good breakfast altho no lactose free milk available. Plenty parking and bed was very comfortable.
Where do we start?! Alfhough the room had all we needed, the whole place needs improved. The front door has a huge hole in it, all the doors to the rooms are scratched and paint flaking off, room 9 is right next to front door so you are kept awake and woke up with other guests coming and going, people running and up down stairs, not very secure as people leaving main door open. Our bathroom smelt like an old foosty building, the button cover was missing making the toilet hard fo flush. Old broken hairdyer still attached to the wall altho new one was available.

Good location good breakfast clean and tidy
It is a pleasant guesthouse on the eastern edge of Central Dumfries with plenty of parking. Once you cross the road you can access walks along the River Nith. The room was fine. It is about a 30 minute walk to Crichton Parkrun. It is a 15 minute walk from the train station and 10 minute walk to big Morrisons and Lidl supermarkets.
The single room was a little bit cramped
Facile à trouver. Bon petit déjeuner à l'hôtel Caledonian juste à coté.
L'établissement est indiqué Bed and Breakfast, on s'attendait à croiser du personnel mais on entre et on sort grâce à un vote et une boute à vlé
Did not have breakfast as I had an early appointment
I had a shower in morning and was shocked to find bathroom floor swimming, hadn’t realized the shower was blocked
Self check in hat geklappt. Gästezimmer in Ordnung. Parkplätze vor dem Haus oder nebenan beim Hotel. Frühstück gut und auch im Hotel nebenan.
Breakfast was lovely good choice friendly staff
Bathroom door wouldn’t close.
The hotel is well located for walking into the town centre, staff are friendly and breakfast was great.
It is slightly unusual that the hotel operates like an annexe to the main hotel next door with no staff in the building. More secure parking next door meant we chose to park our motorcycles there and this is also where we booked in and had breakfast.
Nice cimfortable beds, only short distance to centre of town, easy process to gain entry
Beautiful old guest house and spotlessly clean. Easy access to keys and rooms. Will definitely be back when in Dumfries .
Nothing
The properties location was ideal for the event I was going to.
Great location for where we wanted to go.
Very minor but could do with additional mirror in bedroom for blow drying hair / makeup. Only one you had was in the bathroom.
Location was great the room had everything I needed.
None
The room was very clean and comfortable with a good coffee tray selection. The bathroom was also very clean and fresh.
The shower flooded the bathroom in the morning but it may have been a plumbing issue that needed fixed. I also didn't like going to the nextdoor hotel for breakfast but it was nice when I got there.
Was a convenient overnight stop
Nothing
Beds were comfortable, breakfast was excellent, location was good and staff were friendly. What more to want?
Decor was tired and in need of repainting/repainting.
Cheap and clean. Breakfast was good.
Room was very small and triangular, as it was a single for one night it worked fine. Had to phone for access to room key on arrival. Bed was ok but not the most comfortable.
Great spot. Great room. Great breakfast. GREAT!
Very central and easy to find
Curtain in bedroom did not close properly due to the curtain having come off the ring at the end. The manager was able to hold the curtain closed with her hair clip. However, this should have been checked by housekeeping. Otherwise the room would have been very light at night.
Convenient good breakfast clean and comfy
We liked the location and the hairdryer
The bathroom door didn't shut, then when it did it locked me in. We had to call the reception to come an get me out, which resulted in them taking the handles off then having to kicking the door down to open it. They didn't offer any apology, and seemed angry we had called them. The shower fitting was held together with sellotape and there was no light over on the ceiling light. The room was clean but tired, and it looks like a bedside table was missing. No member of staff came to check we were ok when the fire alarm went off at 7am. All in all I wouldn't recommend.
We sliepen in het familie appartement met eigen opgang. Super! 2 slaapkamers, badkamer en een zitkamer. Naast het hotel waar we het ontbijt kregen. Prima geregeld 😃
The location is good near to central Dumfries. The room was basic but fairly clean and shower good. the beds were very comfortable, requested extra pillows which were supplied, although not great. Breakfast was in the Caledonian next door and was spotless. The choice was good
The entrance is very gloomy and the decor really needs attention, particularly to the doors. The 'secure' key entry access was unlocked. The carpets on the stairs and in the bedroom (sticky) need cleaning
Very clean & comfortable room. Nice breakfast, which was very hot. Good value for money.
Mirror in the bedroom in addition to the one in the bathroom would have been good. A little tired looking, Knob missing on wardrobe door.
The size of the room was exceptional, and the self-service breakfast was wonderful
The noisy floorboards from the adjacent rooms were really loud!
Room were nice and clean. Didn't see any staff from the hotel you have to use the hotel next door for breakfast which was excellent. Saw staff there.
No staff
The room was great but the condition of the lobby etc. was a little shoddy. Needed a coat of paint at least.
Very clean, staff were excellent.
Bed was a bit to hard for me, but ok.
Breakfast was very good. Room was well appointed. When I got there I realised this was hotel I'd stayed at in 2021. I remember it was very hot then, but despite similar weather this time, the room was far more comfortable.
A bit strange that reception and breakfast room were in a separate hotel, but no real problem,
It was ok, very basic and the romm was really small, doors hit the bed when you open it and you have to side shuffle around to the other side of the bed. Was a little noisy with doors slamming from other guests.
It's old and tired looking, all the doors have paint chipped off and the entrance and stairs were done in a dark grey so had a goth feel about it instead of a bright warm welcome. There is no one to meet you, you have to call a number and the someone gives you a pass code to the key box. Breakfast is in the hotel next door which is also self service. Overall disappointing but wouldn't take much to improve it.
Room Was clean
It looked shabby
Room was fine. Biscuits were replenished every day. Breakfast was fantastic.
the room was clean and had all the facilities you needed. It was central to what I required
there was nothing to dislike about the place
Great location for access to the main town Property is a bit tired but. Cheap great breakfast, good staff.
For what you pay nothing
Bed. Doors windows not very friendly. Too far from main things ie shops etc. Not very friendly staff. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone
Clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast!
The grey paintwork on the doors was heavily chipped which made the place look a bit neglected.
Very friendly staff Very clean rooms Comfortable beds Delicious breakfast Free parking right outside Good location Lovely drinks tray in rooms with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits and sweets.
Despite being very clean, it is a bit tired looking. One of our towels was very ragged, the doors are scuffed and there was missing grout between the bathroom floor tiles. The carpet grippers could be felt underfoot outside the bathroom door too, which was painful without shoes on! No plug sockets near the beds. Having said this, the positive points above outweigh these issues and I would definitely stay again.
The staff were most welcoming and helpful; they worked hard to make our stay a good one. Breakfast was very good.
Good parking and a nice breakfast.
There were no staff present on Sunday night and the TV didn't work very well.
property was ok Unfortunately there were road works and I hsd to walk to the property but it wasn’t there fault at all i
stuck round the back like i was in the laundry room of the house .
Family unit is always clean Breakfast next day is value for money
Only one thing wish both doors open to outside area
Staff were lovely friendly and very helpful. The room was spotless and had everything you needed for a short stay. Breakfast buffet was lovely and had everything you would want.
Having to go to the hotel next door for breakfast and anything else you needed was a bit of annoying especially if it was raining. The room was very warm and a bit uncomfortable during the night due to the exceptionally hot weather and couldn’t have window open as being on the ground floor and just a little alley way outside I as a solo female traveller didn’t feel safe sleeping with it open.
The room was very clean; the bed was very comfortable and the en-suite was superb - fantastic shower. Breakfast - the selection was amazing and very tasty.
Check-in - not quite as expected! Nowhere in the booking confirmation email was I advised I'd have to go to the next door property to check-in and collect my keys. Breakfast - Nowhere in the booking confirmation email was I advised I'd have to go to the next door property to have breakfast. If I'd know that I'd have booked into the next door property!
Great for price, nice and clean and lovely breakfast
Bed was really small not a double
Great selection lovely food
Friendly welcome by all the staff, clean room and a great breakfast
All good
Comfortable bed, Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Dumfries is a very nice town - nice little parks and museums. Well placed for exploring the area, if you have a car. Very friendly and helpful people. A nice little shopping area - plenty of nice cafes.
The ramp to the entrance was right outside our bedroom window. We had to keep the blinds closed at all times for any privacy. It was quite noisy when people were booking in late or returning after a night out. One night someone was hammering on the front door and shouting to be let in, not clear if they were a guest or trying to get at a guest. Also, as it is a non-smoking building, guests who wanted a smoke stood right outside our bedroom for a fag and a chat. The smoke came straight into the room when we had the window open - not very nice for non-smokers. Having booked a room with wheelchair access, in order to register had to go to the hotel next door, up a small set of stone steps, in order to collect the key. This is the building where breakfast was served - up a set of stairs. The room smelled odd when we arrived. I was unable to open the windows, the only windows that opened were 6 feet off the ground. Luckily my partner is taller than I am. I think the smell might be the result of the slow draining shower in the wet room, the resulting overflow leaking out onto the carpet. Also, there was only cold water in the hand basin in the bathroom and the top of the tap was missing, leaving a rather grungy hole. The flush on the toilet had the same problem, the top was missing leaving the rough plastic innards only - not super hygienic. The guest house is a little out of the town centre and we had to get a taxi to the centre or the station. I would have liked something in the room with details of the internet password, local taxi firms, local attractions and places to eat. Even something about the history of the town would have been nice. Although the staff were lovely, the place itself felt tired and unloved.
Breakfast is amazing and the rooms are very comfortable
Breakfast
Noise, thin walls, poor quality room furnishings, poor bathroom fixtures, poor decorations in room and hallways. All in need of a facelift and update. Expected so much more for one hundred quid a night!
Comfortable room, clean, breakfast was great, staff were friendly.
The fact that the guest house was separate to the main dining facility and bar. Getting the keys was a nightmare.
Room was very comfortable and breakfast very good.
Nothing
La posizione, il parcheggio gratuito, la facilità del check in
La scomodità dei rubinetti del lavandino del bagno, la pulizia delle scale
Location
Room was cramped and walls weee thin so it was possible to hear other guests facilities were grubby with mould in the shower on our last day the restaurant was late opening
Room was comfortable, shower was good and breakfast was amazing
Breakfast was in alocation where we had to walk too much. Food cold etc
Staff, and Brunos restraunt
Very clean and spacious with an excellent en suite...The staff were very helpful and friendly while the breakfast was excellent.
Bit of a walk into town
Spacious enough for a family of four adults, beds were comfortable. Breakfast was very good.
TV and internet could have been better as there was a world cup match going on, but really nothing to complain about.
Amazing breakfast 1st rate
Ideal accomodation for my needs. Very nice breakfast. Room was spotless as was the en suite.
Nothing
Nice and clean, ideal for a little family, bottled water and biscuits was a plus with a cuppa,
A big cracked tile in bathroom not good for little feet, otherwise ideal
Excellent value with plenty off street parking
Good location good private parking helpful staff
You have to pick up and drop off keys nextdoor
Very clean, well provided amenities. Excellent breakfast. I don't know how you do it for the price. 👍👍👍👍👍😁😁
Nothing
Facilities was great
Nothing was quite surprised how good it was for the price
Just the job. Clean and basic.
Everything location, staff, comfort, value for money,
Parking for scooters was right outside room window.
Having to walk next door to Caledonian Hotel wasn’t very handy first thing in the morning.
The hotel was very near where we were going in Dumfries, so very handy for mum and I.
The room we were in was lovely and on ground floor. But had no mat for putting on shower floor and with mum being in her 91st year I was frightened she would slip ,so I put a towel down for her. Also some of the tiles in shower room where cracked. But apart from that every thing else was excellent.
Didn’t expect to have to go next door for breakfast
Breakfast was brilliant Staff are very pleasant and helpful
As a solo female traveller, I was very perturbed when another guest managed to unlock my door and access my room whilst I was in there. Didn’t sleep after that.
Bed comfortable & room clean.
It was a bit cramped.
Staff very friendly and helpful. The bed
Glenlossie needs a refurb The bathroom washbasin hot tap didn’t work and the bathroom light was intermittent
The hotel was between Travelodge (lower) and Premier Inn (higher) in terms of price and this is how I'm rating it. In terms of value for money in Dumfries I think this is hard to beat. The price included a good breakfast and an adequately equipped room with toiletries and coffee and tea. The room was not as large as the aforementioned hotels in the area but it had a wardrobe that could easily accommodate several suitcases and the television was a smart one allowing access to streaming. Reasonable WiFi was also in the price. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
There was little not to like and none of it would put me off. There was no area to work on either a laptop easily nor was there a mirror that you could sit at.. Some of the tiles were cracked and there was grout missing. The showerhead needed sorting to spray consistently rather than heavily in one area and barely at all in others. None of these were a problem at this price point though.
Mine was a very late booking but the host couldn't have been more helpful.
The staff were incredible, the room was clean and bed comfortable
Water pressure on the shower wasn't great
Friendly and helpful. Very accommodating. Good location. Excellent value.
Only comment but not even a criticism is the room did not have a table but it didn't really matter.
When I arrived the staff decided to put me in one of their other buildings, next door. It was quiet and very comfortable. Breakfast was very satisfying- full Scottish. Didn’t need to eat till supper time! The staff were very kind and helpful.
I didn’t stay in The actual booked room in Glenlossie so I can’t say what it was like inside.
That I had a bed with blankets and a pillow.
The stay were not in attendance when we arrived and they did not answer the phone that we were told to call. So we were wandering around for a couple of hours wondering if we were going to actually get to be able to stay.
Location , ideal for a one night stay
I didn’t have time for breakfast as I left each day at 6 am
