Really helpful staff. Lovely big room. Excellent choice of breakfast. Also a very good evening dinner menu.
Good location, large and comfortable bed. Staff are friendly and helpful
Bathtub and shower in bedroom. Lights broken and LED strips showing. Complimentary chocolate tasted out of date. Toilet separate and away from sink which was in main bedroom area. Tv station had limited channels. Decor was dated.
boiling hot room could not sleep - called down at 3.30am for the reception to change and re set air con centrally- didnt work - set at 27.5 degrees- awful nights sleep
The room was very nice and a comfortable bed
The thing that let it down was our evening meal, the menu stated the price of the food but when the bill arrived vat was added to it even though in the small print it said vat was included in all meals, when the duty manager was asked about it he told us it shouldn't say that and that vat was added afterwards. We paid the bill rather than stand arguing about it, this definitely soured our stay and I would recommend anybody eating there to check beforehand regarding vat
Great location very close to town
Our stay was a last minute booking, to break up a long drive up North from Devon so we could stop off for dinner then continue in the morning. We just wanted somewhere inexpensive and close to town that had parking and was pet friendly. Malmaison came up as meeting all those criteria and was £110 for the night. Immediately upon arrival we were hit with a bill for extras of £35 ~ £10 for parking the car and £25 for ‘cleaning up after pets’. Dinner for 2 at the hotel was an extra £140. Our ‘inexpensive stopover’ ended up costing £285 !!!
Location
No working AC in the room
Very small room. Very small shower hardly wide enough to turn around due to ceiling moving in as roof sloped
Friendly and efficient staff. Very convenient location. Room clean and well appointed.
staff were great
no AC working
Food & room were excellent
Problem with bath tat took 2 attempts to fix
Location was fantastic with amazingly friendly staff, especially in reception and housekeeping. Keegan was a star!
There were some minor but annoying maintenance issues in the room which could have been easily avoided. Lights not working in the bathroom and the desk lamp, and the a/c was not working well in the room. The excellent staff tried their best but the spotty maintenance let them down.
Breakfast Full English, Fried eggs always turn out more like an omelette rather than sunny side up, baked beans served in a small pot was only half full with the remaining half filled with bean sauce, only one coffee maker available people queuing while waiting for drinks. Female supervisor needs to adopt a morning smile for guests at breakfast. At around 03.30 in the morning water was found to be leaking from the ceiling around the light fitting, as I couldn't get a reply by phone to reception got dress went to reception to report the said leak, following an inspection towels were placed on the floor and nothing more was done, I was reimbursed to the sum of £50 for the inconvenience WOW many thanks.
Room was fantastic. Breakfast excellent. Location, perfect. We had a great time.
nothing.
Everything was lovely.
Nothing.
Beautiful
Issue with aircon not working
How big the room was and the lovely decor very modern
There was a problem with the tv but we didn’t report it till we checked out so no one’s fault
location
would be good to have a gym, not sure i liked the bath in the room
All the seating was very low making life difficult and the extractor in the bathroom stayed on all night!
breakfast service was great
3 Bathroom lights were blown, charging strip in desk was unplugged and the bed side lights were faulty / blinking
Great location, very clean and comfortable hotel, with good breakfast and friendly service. Very pleasant stay I would happily recommend it
Everything - especially Freddie on reception, he was amazingly helpful and cheerful! Fab breakfast too! Xx
There was an unwiped stain in the inside of the wardrobe door xx
the bed was comfy
breakfast although presented well was cold, all the seats were very low through the hotel (style over practicality) a lot of dogs present with no warning or guarantee that room hadn't had dog in it previously. reception staff were slow and didn't even acknowledge or apologise for wait. nobody there on checkout but fortunately the senior lady on service in the restaurant on the Sunday morning helped
Location Nice big airy room
Very soft bed (a matter or preference) but didn’t suit me.
The location was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
It definitely could have been cleaner, the main stairs had a lot of dirt and it was exactly the same when we left as when we arrived. I think the furniture and flooring could do with deep cleans and replacing.
Breakfast
No air Conditioning. Beds uncomfortable.
Good location in the Montpellier district. Attractive building.
£10 charge for parking. Cold water didn't work in our room - both taps ran hot. Nespresso machine had to be manually switched off, did not auto stop. Small issues but not what was expected from the brand of hotel. Told reception but no gesture of goodwill offered,
The quiet but central location, lovely bar, food.
My room had an unusual layout!
The hotel location is fantastic.. near to bars & restaurants Size & facilities of Hotel are exceptional Staff were so kind & helpful Well come gift of a glass of Champagne Attention to detail regards our stay due to wedding anniversary 💕
Bedroom was to warm for us, window was open. But this is a personal choice & no criticism to this wonderful hotel Bar and bar area including the conservatory was closed on the Saturday night due to a private function. So that was a shame for us.
Really central location with nice rooms
The walls are quite thin which means you can hear what your neighbours are up to. This wasn’t too bad though and this wouldn’t put me off staying here again.
the staff were good The best of all was Freddie on reception who was a credit to the hotel
The hotel bar area has really improved since our last stay and now feels like a welcoming and comfortable space to enjoy a drink. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choice. Staff were helpful and made the stay very enjoyable.
Some of the very small details could be improved a little in terms of cleanliness of corners of showers, around taps etc.
Booked Malmaison for my 60th party. The team could not have been more helpful, the food was great and they created a great atmosphere. Just fabulous, thank you
The bed, the bath, friendly reception, parking.

Location, it was clean and staff
I booked two rooms and in one the bathroom was small
Lovely property - original features but inside tastefully modernised
perfect location, clean, comfortable room
price
Breakfast was really good and the staff were so friendly and helpful
We are grateful for the upgrade and like the idea that you can bid for it. However, a minor point was that the taps looked a little tired and could have been cleaner. Updating them would help give the bathroom a fresher feel.
Large room. Bar facilities were good. Welcoming staff on check in and check out.
Room said air conditioning on booking however unsure if there was any. Fan was in room to keep cooler but it was still warm.
5 rooms were all different but each had good features e.g. my room was smaller but had a balcony with a great view on the top floor. Friend on the ground floor had a very large classy room. We had a very nice dinner one evening…better than the usual hotel meal.
Continual irritating music, particularly at breakfast, with pulsating bass. A peaceful environment is more desirable.
Excellent air-conditioning and soundproofing in a spacious standard room. Excellent choice and quality of freshly-cooked hot breakfast in addition to good quality continental breakfast buffet.
Good facilities in the room. excellent toiletries and freestanding bathtub in the room. Breakfast buffet very good with lots of choice. not a big fan of filter coffee. would prefer a bean to cup machine.
The weather was very warm and the AC in our room couldn't cope. there was an electric fan but bit noisy to have on all night so the room was warm.
Beautiful building interior design/ decor and location- restaurant staff friendly and helpful. However i requested an upgrade to a bigger room 3 days ahead and was told i had gone from a cosy to a standard double for an extra £10. The room appeared cosy size not standard double - air con wasn't working on the hottest day of the year- windows opened an inch and only a dribble of hot water from the bathroom sink and no cold water at all. The bath sides were incredibly high to get in and out for a shower or bath and the mini fridge was chucking out additional heat that felt like a fire hazard. The restaurant food and service was fabulous and great menu with heathy option protein bowls. We were a pair of only 3 pairs of diners whilst there. I did report all the room issues at reception who said he would try and move us and he did try re setting the air con as said it was set to heating - but said unlikely to get a room cange as fully booked- he never updated us and hotel appeared pretty empty to be honest. After a sleepless night we were told we owed £10 for on street parking on a public road outside - because reception had entered our car reg on their system fespite me saying we were not in their carpark. We refused to pay and walked out feeling pretty let down on what was meant to be a treat break away .
excellent location, nice decor, good lobby & bar areas, friendly staff enjoyed tasty breakfast, nice continental selection with the best warm pastries and liked the cloudy apple juice on offer rather than standard amber coloured juice. Bonne Maman preserves, cereals including GF options and choice of milks. good size room (twin) and modern shower room. Nespresso coffee machine with pods, chilled filtered water in the fridge
Ineffective Air Con System in room - lowest setting was 19C but room panel indicated 29C room temp which was not comfortable to stay in. Reception staff tried to reset it with no luck. We were given a fan to keep on overnight with windows open. Next morning the panel indicated room temp 27.5C,. We did manage to sleep but a bit unfortunate given the cost of the room and as hotel was fully booked, we were unable to move rooms. Chose hot breakfast cooked to order, was advised would take 20 mins, it took 40. Twiddling our thumbs a bit but was tasty and well presented when it arrived.
In a very good location and very clean and tge staff were very pleasant.
The room was very, very warm and stuffy and tge air con did not work. There was a fan in the room but it was just circulating warm air 🥵🥵
The dinner
The room door is broken.
Great location and the staff were brilliant
For some reason the air conditioning would not go below 19 degrees when I asked I was told it was by design the room was like an oven it was so hot. Breakfast was ok the sausage and black pudding was only cooked on one side
Beautiful property and nice staff
The room we were in on the first floor creaked every time people in room above moved. When they had a bath it sounded like it was in our room. Sadly the people above were moving around until 4am and had two baths after 3am so we did not manage to get to sleep until gone 4. We dialled down to reception and I even went down at 2:30am and spoke to desk manager who said they would speak to guest above but this seemed to have no impact.
Really nice, rooms are different to standard premier inn Air con was good Staff were 10/10
All was good
The reception and bar area of the hotel were lovely. The hotel is located in a nice area only a short walk into central Cheltenham.
We booked a twin and were given a double so had to wait in reception for housekeeping to reset the beds. The rooms are very tired. Our Air Con was not working in 35 degree heat. And the only option was that they put a fan in the room. It was very hot and uncomfortable. In general the rooms were not up to the usual Malmaison standard.
Myself and my partner booked a spontaneous night away here to celebrate our engagement. Our receptionist Abby was so lovely and friendly. The hotel went above and beyond to celebrate our engagement including 2 free drinks. Check in was fast and efficient and they were all so accommodating to our needs. First time in Cheltenham but will certainly come back and stay here again.

My husband and I visited this hotel recently while travelling to visit family. I had booked a club room with breakfast and we were delighted to find out while checking in we’d been upgraded to the Signature suite. The suite was lovely, very spacious with a huge comfortable bed, seating area, dining table and a bathroom with a large bath and separate shower. It also has an outdoor terrace which we wished we had more time to use. The only downside is there are quite a lot of stairs to access the suite and the lift was broken throughout our stay. We had cocktails in the bar and dinner in the hotel restaurant which we enjoyed. Keegan who looked after us in the restaurant was very friendly and attentive. A benefit of this hotel is that it has on site parking for a reasonable charge. We would stay here again if in the area.
Great location, lovely building, friendly staff, superb breakfast
The staff, they actually were the best part about the hotel. Very pleasant and friendly and did their utmost to help when we had problems with our room .
The rooms . The first room we had was at top of the building. 1. Too much furniture in room so you bash your legs on the bed when moving around . 2. Could do without a massive desk - too big for room. 3. Shower in the bath but bath was huge. And way too high for getting in and out of and could be dangerous . 4 Taps in sink didn’t work. 5. Room too hot though / air con not working . The duty manager kindly moved us into another room straight away when we explained the problems . Moved to another room and better with walk in shower . Room still too hot though as air con not working . Staff supplied fans which helped a bit but owners should look at all these issues .
Hotel room not as described and we were scammed, still waiting on my refund. Unfortunately need to take court action as the hotel have ghosted me.
Hotel was missing air con which was listed on the description, we then suffered through 30 degrees at night with our baby. Waiting on my refund, but the hotel have ghosted us and now I need to take court action. Devastated as we were married here and have been loyal guests over many years.
location, history
room was nice (005) just a bit of an odd layout and view was a run down tennis court…… we weren’t expecting anything so no drama just as it’s been asked.
Reception areas are very nice.
Nothing. The room was a tiny bit tired in places, but still good value for money.
Lovely as always
Could serve draft lager
Love the location of this hotel - this was our 4th stay there. Staff are really helpful and facilities are great. Enjoyed a relaxed stay there. Great price too!
Coffee machine was out of action for 2 days but was fixed by the 3rd morning.
Zeer vriendelijk personeel op een goede locatie. Ontbijt was prima, kamer ruim, hoog plafond.
Alex was incredibly helpful with parking info, local activities info and made an extra effort to look after myself and my friend as she was an overseas visitor. The room was massive, super clean and the nespresso machine and fridge was an added bonus that was much appreciated! Toby behind the bar gave me a fantastic lesson in making the prefect Mojito (it was perfect) and took the time to make sure we had everything we needed. The best hotel stay I have had in years!! All the staff were lovely and attentive and it made for a fab trip. Oh parking was excellent and location to town fantastic!
Nothing - it was fantastic
Very clean and modern
Nothing negative
Friendly and calm atmosphere
The fan wasn’t working very well in the room
Great location
Air conditioning too loud
staff are helpful and the food in very good.
The cosy room is very small
I loved the amazing breakfast and the lovely seating areas
Our room was small
Location was brilliant very clean and friendly
The tea hot water was never hot suggest alternative to flask
Stayed here last night, having booked a cosy room for my wife and I, as a stopover on our way back home to the North East following a holiday in Cornwall. Due to a late change in circumstances, we ended up having a 9 year old child with us upon arrival. The room that we had booked doesn’t accommodate a third person and the hotel was full to capacity, it being a Friday night in holiday season. Despite this, the staff ensured that we were all accommodated and looked after us very well. Special thanks to Tess, who went out of her way to help us and provided exceptional customer service, which I have yet to experience elsewhere. She is a credit to the business. This was our first stay in a Malmaison hotel and, due to our very positive experience, is unlikely to be our last.
Malmaison Tony and I recently were lucky enough to have you as our venue for our wedding day. Im struggling to find enough good words to describe how wonderful our day was. Not just for us but for our guests as well. So many of them made a very similar comment.”this has been one of the best weddings we’ve been to”. Think that says it all! The day from start to finish couldn’t have gone more right. Every member of staff on duty were, helpful, lovely, attentive and most of all kind. I have to start with Charlotte who coordinated our wedding and did such a great job aided by Alex . Alex was a very calming influence who assured me that everything would be perfect and indeed it was. In the morning whilst getting ready we were delighted when you brought us trays of food and coffee for breakfast, just what we needed. Tess was on it the whole day and evening excelling in her role aided by Chloe with a smile on her face and a spring in her step even bringing us a mango sorbet each at the end of the evening which was such a treat before we collapsed in to bed after exhausting ourselves from all the dancing. Greg who helped us choose our menu and manned the bar throughout the evening aided by Amy. We know what a task that was for you and how demanding an Irish crowd can be whilst waiting for their drink. So well done! The chefs Matthew, Bibek and Vlad who ran the kitchen and produced such excellent food. Everyone enjoyed their food and extremely complimentary about the canapés. Paula, Sally and the rest of the waiting staff who ran the service with a smile and tried their best to feed everyone. On reception Ksenila, Freddie and Rachel who helped us put everything into our car the next morning. I could go on and on. Thank you , thank you, thank you. You made our dream come true and helped us create very special memories with our family and friends. From a very contented Mr and Mrs Ross!
Location
No instructions on use of heating/ cooling
Air conditioning in room was amazing. Great central location
Room very small.
Clean nice hotel
25 pounds for breakfast even if you only wanted continental. That very strong for an orange juice croissant and a coffee in anyone's book. Oh and the lack of parking for a hotel of this size even the onsite parking would scare anyone to try and park a large car in it.
The hotel is very well located within walking distance of the town centre. It has a reasonably-priced car park. The staff were most helpful and when the air-conditioning was not working in my room, the deputy night manager (Miguel) moved me into another (better) room and even carried my case across to it.
The air conditioning was not working in my original room and then the coffee machine was not working in the second one (but instant coffee and a kettle were provided).
Room was lovely and the gentleman at reception was very helpful
.
We called in for breakfast with the three kids. Sally was excellent in making our visit a lovely experience! Helped to pull the blinds down so that the sun wasn’t in our eyes and promptly took our hot food order and helped with any questions we had. Thank you!
Location nice.
Unfortunately I’ve stayed before & in other Malmaisons - the staff weren’t in any rush, got our dinner requests wrong twice and the food was mediocre. “Malmaison” You s now off my go to list.
Great location, slightly tucked away but only a short walk away from the bars/ town centre. The staff were all really friendly and the breakfast was delicious
Absolutely excellent
My only problem was the lack of any kind of fan or air conditioning in very hot conditions
Beautiful old building (glad I did not have to stay in the modern bit out the back!!
Interiors were totally out of character with such a lovely building (I expect they paid some fancy interiors “expert” a fortune though!)
Location excellent
Lift wasn’t working air con not working
Great location, great and helpful staff, had most of what we wanted
The room was very small and difficult to move around, the bathroom lacked enough light
Good location, nice cocktails
No air conditioning in public areas ( or our room initially). Staff took too long to sort out. Lift not working
Started wobbly with some issues but Hotel staff sorted quickly and professionally.
Clean outstanding and beautiful
nothing really in some areas it needs to be refreshed
Nice and central, perfect 👌 xxx
We got our money back and left
We went solely for air con in room and restaurant because of the heat. I spoke to reception to confirm that they had air con in room and restaurant and they siad they did as did their web site and booking.com and Google. They had no air con in the restaurant. The room had a heating system which went as low as 17 degrees but it was not a cooling system and the room was boiling hot
Location and parking were ideal
Room was like a sauna, air con was useless
The lady on reception was really helpful
Air con not working, had to change rooms. I have stayed at a number of Malmaison hotels but I was disappointed with this one. Room was very small & stuffy
Comfy bed, air conditioned, great breakfast with lots of choices, staff all friendly and great location with parking on site.
Forgot the slippers but wasn't an issue
Parking was easy accessible.
Apart from Keeghan the duty manager and the breakfast chef the staff was totally overwhelmed and inexperienced. We arrived 15 min early for check in, and was told we cannot be there. Luckily Keeghan made a plan to offer to store our luggage so we could have a drink in the lounge when he heard we were unhappy after being told by reception staff we should just sit and wait. The receptionist could not think of the solution to store our bags! Breakfast had nothing but the cooked menu. No fruit, yoghurt or anything healthy. Drain in bathroom did not work. My friends did not have aircon in their room whilst 30 degrees outside.
Location near all Montpellier restaurants and shops. Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast. Excellent bar and restaurant.
Great location.
The hotel needs refurbishment as it looks very dated. The staff were pretty poor and most things were or seemed a problem.
Room was large
Very shabby, dirty hotel. Air conditioning initially broken, then weak when fixed. Bed uncomfortable. No information given about dinner, or other facilities.
The location is great, breakfast food and staff nice. We had one complaint and we were given free breakfast to compensate.
The air on was broken and we were not told on check in.
We arrived at 6.30pm on a Friday for a wedding on the Saturday. I was excited for the wedding but also what should have been a lovely hotel stay. How disappointed I was. As soon as we arrived I commented about how filthy it was. The floors in the public areas were an immediate red flag and I wish we had left then. The lift from the car park didn’t work so we had to carry heavy luggage up by hand. We went to our “cosy room”. There wasn’t enough room to swing a cat. The television was not working. The bath did not drain properly. The surfaces were streaky. I took my shoes off and walked across the carpet and my feet were black. The worst was the air con. We contacted reception and were told that there was a high demand for ac and issues across the hotel. Not helpful on the hottest weekend of the year. When I returned from the wedding, I realised that the walls were so thin I overheard the next rooms entire conversation regarding their seventeen year old daughter potentially studying economics at university in September. I’m greatful that’s all I heard. When we left I intended to answer honestly when I would inevitably be asked about our stay. However, I had a “you’re all paid up safe journey”. I stood there astounded. Almost as though the staff were trained to shut down any sign of complaint. However, the location is very good. I also left behind some clothes and was able to organise their safe return via an online form, which I did appreciate. For the cost, I would recommend avoiding. The accommodation was not reflective of the cost and the people advertising this hotel as boutique or luxurious should be investigated for false advertising.
Great location
Parking full Bathroom a bit grotty considering over £200 a night
The location and room was excellent
Nothing
I always find Malmaison hotels pretentious at the best of times and to be fair to them, it’s an image of ‘over the top’ glam and appealing to the young and ambitious that they go for.. I couldn’t get a room at the Queens so this was the next option.. I really wished I’d have done my ground work when booking as I seemed to be plonked in a ‘Cozy Room’ I don’t mind the room size per se, the bed was comfortable and it was only one night.. but whoever designed this room clearly had the layout instincts of Mr Magoo. If you value your shins and the skin on them avoid room 130 like your life depended on it.. with the ridiculous tv sticking out 8” from the wall at waist height at the bottom of the bed, it leaves passage to the bathroom wide enough for a rodent to get through, this tunnel of peril is made worse by the ubiquitous sharp 90 degree bed frame at you guessed it, shin height.. call me clumsy but three times my shin met this sharp wooden obstacle causing pain and industrial language during the night. I can’t leave without saying (while we’re on design faults) its hilarious how some bright spark decided to put the gate open button on the car park barrier on the opposite side to the driver, forcing you to get out of your vehicle in the fairly busy road.. insane! The final peril to negotiate is the loo.. I won’t go into detail, but if you’re any larger than Kate Moss you have my best of luck wishes.. It’s not all bad, the rooms are clean, the breakfast is genuinely first class, in fact better than the Queens (which I never thought I’d hear myself saying) I’m old school and I visit Cheltenham a lot on business and I just want the comfort of a decent hotel, not a bruised shin.. Would I stay again.. of course, just not in ‘Cozy Comfort’
Location is very good Pleasant reception staff For me a 78 yr old lady with arthritis EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to access the bed Also VERY DIFFICULT to access electric power points The a/c I was told was in the room, the reason for my stay during heatwave was almost NON EXISTENT and finding an accessible point to plug the fan is was impossible for me
Better A/c Far more accessible bed for an older lady ( in an alcove) power points very inaccessible No walk in shower, essential for me
Modern property with friendly helpful staff and everything you want for a short stay. Breakfast was delicious!
My only criticism was you couldn’t turn the air conditioner off!
